This was our first visit to Local Dogs, a startup restaurant by owners Michael and Ashley Cordray.of ""Restoring Galveston" TV series, The menu is primarily hot dogs and fries but there are other choices plus sides to choose from. I had the Coney Island plate with fries with a side of Cole slaw and local IPA. The dog was good as well as true toppings. The crown, however was the grilled New England style bun. That alone will keep me coming back. The other plus was seeing Michael visiting the various tables, including our own. Good job! read more

Loved Local Dogs! I'm a plain Jane hot dog eater so I didn't try the fancy one. Just dog, mustard, relish and onion. But it was delicious. What didn't I like about this place? We enjoyed the quick service, family-friendly atmosphere, friendliness of the staff, the games outside, and of course the delicious food. I had a snow cone with homemade syrup and it was hands-down the best snow cone I have ever had. The sweet girl that made them also made each of our kids a balloon animal. The all beef dogs were good. I appreciate that they offer gluten-free buns. Toasted buns would make the dogs even better in my opinion, but the French fries were fresh & crispy. My dad grew up in Chicago and his favorite thing to eat is a hot dog. When he turned 90, I hired a hot bender for his party. We ordered the hotdog and the poppyseed buns directly from Chicago. All beef, quarter pounders, great flavor and juicy when you get into it. We even ordered their poppyseed buns. I acquired the same liking. Especially for a juicy hotdog when you bite into it. I tried local dogs when it first opened and it was below par. I ordered the Chicago hotdog my absolute favorite. The hotdog was about as thick as my ring finger and had no flavor whatsoever. The bun was over toasted and not a poppyseed bun. The french fries were soggy. I just love hot and crispy fries. Since it was new, I thought I would give it a second chance. Once again, I ordered a Chicago hotdog. This time the bun was not over toasted. I asked for the fries to be hot and crispy and the young lady that took my order said they can't do them that way. She said it was because they cut their own potatoes. Honestly, she needed a little training I think. It would be nice to walk up to the counter as someone say, "welcome to Local Dogs can I take your order?" I've been to many restaurants where they cut their own potatoes and make hot and crispy fries. Anyway, back to the hotdog. Once again, the hotdog was skinny and no flavor and over cooked. The bun was NIT over toasted. I guess my expectations were too high. I expected a place that specializes in hots would have the best hotdogs money could buy. What an amazing place. It starts with the decor and morphs from there. Hand cut fries, toasted buns and plenty of variety. I am not sure how they made the jump from local television celebrities restoring homes to a one of a kind gourmet hotdog restaurant but they slammed it. We drive 4 hours from Spicewood TX to dine here. Well worth the trip. read more

Tasty dogs. I got the NYC and it was perfect, just the right amount of kraut, onions and mustard. My Dreamsicle dirty soda was a delightful combination of flavors. Side dishes were unexpected; we loved the cheese curds with marinara. Great ambiance -- love the decor, design and color choices, all very stylish. Chicago dog was pretty dang good and the cheese curds were surprisingly nice (Wisconsin bias). Slaw was on the dry side and not very exciting. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, especially since they are not fully staffed and completely swamped (they were technically not open fully yet) Building itself has a good feel. I'm a big fan of the community table concept, especially in Galveston. I'm excited see things reach their final form here, and we'll be back more than we should. We made our first visit here, Sunday, November 2, 2025, for a late lunch After reading the reviews, we expected to find good quality, food, and that was I really would like to point out, their lemonade is absolutely wonderful. My son had a Chicago dog, but she said was exceptional. I had no idea, that I would find a grilled cheese there. This is not just a typical grilled cheese with white bread and a piece of American cheese slept on it. This would definitely qualify as a gourmet grilled cheese The service was fabulous. They have a really nice, indoor dining and the outdoor patio is.. The menu is very well thought out. Everything we had was really much better quality than you would think of a fast food. Very open clean concept and decor. The service was impeccable from the cashier who took our order, to the people bussing tables, to the owner who was actually working, bussing tables and talking to customers. My mom and I got a hot dog both build your own. Her was basic mustard relish and onion and mine was queso, chili and onions. They didn't skimp on the toppings but it also wasn't a sloppy mess. The buns and dogs were top notch, definitely high quality. The queso was so yummy! They need to add some chili cheese nachos to the menu! My only tiny problem was we went to the snow cone place attached and the snow cone took forever to get it wasn't the person making it but like the method they use to make it is slow and it was skimpy on the syrup. It goes without saying that the food, atmosphere and staff are great! My reason for this review is deeper than that. We had to euthanize our precious Cupcake on October 27th. My family decided to take her brother, Harley, to Local Dogs. When my husband went back inside to purchase some more of their delicious banana pudding, he ended up having a conversation with Michael, one of the owners, and he mentioned to Michael what we had just gone through. Michael took the time to go outside and talk to me and my daughter, and to pay his condolences to our family. We were very touched by his gesture. Local Dogs is our go to spot for now on!!! This is not your typical hotdog stand. This new Galveston restaurant has a unique approach to a hot dog. There are lots of varieties like Chicago, French Dip, Pizza and The Local. If you don't like hotdogs they also have amazing sliders with cheese and grilled onions. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the seating is good for all sizes of parties.
