The food is really good don't get me wrong, the fries are well seasoned and the shakes are very delicious! The problem is one of the employees.. she is an old blond haired lady, she has a very snappy attitude and is very rude. She seems to always be upset and often gets the orders wrong and blames the customers, she has no patience when people are ordering and the food always takes forever to come out! After hiking close to the restaurant we decided to stop by and try it out since our friends recommended it. First the food tasted great. Delicious burgers at a great price. Perfect after the hike. We came during their lunch rush so they were scrambling a bit and forgot a couple of our items but when we let them know they were quick to fix the issue and provided all our items. So I would say their service is great. The interior looks cool also kind of run down building but the seating and tables were comfortable. Best Burger ever! I had the California burger. It was juicy delicious yummy! Grab extra napkins. The onions and French fries are great,too. They have Auburn canned beer also. Although we love the regional favorite In N' Out burger, local stores need some love and Did a quick search on Yelp! today and found Local Heroes. So glad we did. The owners were fast and friendly, the place was spotless. We had a drink while waiting for our carry out. We had three Western States burgers (think a hand-slapped version of Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger) and a Cardiac Trail. (The same burger but with Ghost Pepper smoked cheese and jalapeños). We've come here twice. You know, both times we've been in Auburn :) And we'd go back. They have delicious burgers and fries and onion rings and smoothies. And you know it's well made when you do have to wait a bit for it. Our orders did seem to take a bit each time, but knowing that they're making it fresh is reassuring. They also have a patio area where dogs are allowed -- which is probably the primary reason we've gone back each time. With dogs in tow, options are limited. Not to say that we'd only go if we have dogs. The food is good quality and it's nice, every once in a while, to have a good burger (veggie for me) with fatty sides :) read more

The food is great and they were very nice to let us eat there when they were closing in 15 minutes. This review is strictly for what I witnessed and it left a bad taste to where I'll never go back. Their system for credit was down so they were only accepting cash. That's fine, we had cash but a couple came in that did not. They asked where the closest ATM was so the couple went on their way to get cash and said they'll be back. During that time the lady at the counter never mentioned to the couple they were closing in a few minutes. The couple came back at 4:10pm (they close at 4) and tried to order. They (counter lady and chef) told them sorry we are closed and were not taking orders. I seriously could not believe they wouldn't take the order after they sent them to go get cash. I have tried this place twice in the past 3 years. It was super busy and a long wait the first time I went at lunch a couple years ago and the burger was not memorable so I didn't go back until today for an early dinner. The fries were OK but the burger had a weird taste. Almost chemical like. The bun was stale and falling apart I took apart the burger and tried all the parts separately and then came to the conclusion it was the meat that tasted off. I threw 3/4 of it away. I should have just went to in n out and paid less or paid a little more and went to burgers in cream. I won't be back. read more

USED TO BE GREAT. Not anymore. Have been going here every one to two weeks for the past several years and recommending to friends and family but not anymore! The burgers used to be delicious, but they have been getting smaller and smaller over time. The GF buns used to be great but they have changed them a couple of times and the last time we went there, my husband and I both thought it all tasted like a fancy Burger King burger. There have been multiple instances in the last year that have added up and made us decide we're done with this place. The customer service is extremely spotty. Long long wait times, rude staff (including the owner), and trying to call in to order for pickup and they just pick up and set the phone down to tie up the line. When you're seeing all kinds of good review, make sure you consider how recent they are. This place started going way downhill about a year ago. I think since they've "made it" with lots of good reviews and customers, they've gotten way more unconcerned with continuing to run a good business with quality food and service. Too bad, you really had something good there and you seem to be letting it go. Just give it time, if this continues, you'll never be understaffed because you won't have repeat customers. read more

Cleaner than any burger place ive been in. The food was top notch. I had the Cardiac Trail and my girl had the Cali one. They were just perfect. The 2 dudes working were hella polite and fast and professional. Also the beer selection is awesome. Got a blackberry DIPA and loved every drip. I may come to auburn just for these burgers. Behind a funky gas station in Downtown Auburn is a tan, square red-roofed building with a black awning leading up to the forest green door. "Local Heroes" is painted in Cheers-like font all over the windows in a yellow-to-orange gradient, and in white on the roof. Inside feels like two different places. To the left when you enter is a long seating area. At the back is a fully wooded bar area - the bar and walls and a single large high table are brightly finished. A couple smaller high tables and chairs line the white wall with plenty of window spaces. To the right, and through the similarly green door frame, is the cream colored main space where the ordering counter and seating area are. Behind the counter, chefs (and from what I'm told volunteer firefighters) flip burger patties, melt cheese, and assemble the towering creations. Said creations are listed to the left on an oversized wall menu. What caught my eye was the Cardiac Trail burger. So I ordered it. After a decent wait, my name was called and I was handed a beautiful stuffed monstrosity between two buns and ample pile of fries with the skins on. The burger was piled with ghost pepper cheese, onion rings, bacon, barbecue sauce, and layer of lettuce. It was difficult to bite down on, but with a good squish I managed to mangle a good one. The patty was nice and juicy with just a bit of pink and seasoning to taste. The mellow cheese gave way to the ghost pepper's bite before the sweet relief of the barbecue and smoky bacon come to the rescue, yet interrupted by the addition of some creamy aioli that comes swinging with the sweat-inducing heat. All of this between some puffy buns that were nicely grilled quickly. A fun burger with great taste to boot. The fries, a bit on the limp side sadly, had just enough of a dash of sea salt to make them rather tasty sans ketchup. Small note: the skin gives the fry a funky earthiness to the whole taste, something I like but some don't. Overall, a pleasant surprise as it is difficult to find a great place amidst so many sandwich and burger joints in-town. Everything was spot on taste-wise, and I'm told the beer selection is fairly good for just a few taps. A fabulous 5 from me and some of the best burgers in Auburn. read more
