SCAM Alert Went there on Friday evening after our drive into Memphis. It was just the two of us and our waitress who appeared the least interested in her job, walked over and hurriedly put in our order. We ordered the hummus. Few minutes later she informed us the hummus is "frozen" and cannot be served We ordered food and drinks. When the check came we noticed the 20% gratuity was pre-added. Now, I know establishments add a gratuity for groups, but it was just us and it was not mentioned on the menus we were given. We might have given an equal (or lesser due to poor service), but the way they slid into the check was scammy. On top of it, once we gave the card, the amount CHANGED again. They added credit card fees, from us. This was not again mentioned and which sit-down restaurant charges credit card fees Very scammy. I need a refund! read more

While interviewing some sales reps for the Memphis area, I ran in here for a quick lunch. What a cool pub style bistro. The street it's located on has street car/trolly lanes and a lot of cool upstairs lifts above all of the businesses located in that area (downtown Beale). I'm not very familiar with Memphis being from California originally, but this entire area looks like it would come alive with people at night and be a great place to party. For lunch I ordered the Philly which was ehh...it needed some peppers and yellow cheese, but it wasn't horrible. My friend ordered an Italian sandwich which he loved and said he wanted to take another home for later. The bar itself was kind of small, but inviting. If I didn't have to interview anyone after lunch, I would have tried one of the beers on tap! I also love the big comfy overstuffed booths. Cool place! read more

I placed an order through Postmates, and after two hours of the driver changing on the app, the last driver finally told me that "the Postmates system at the restaurant is down and they are not able to receive any orders even though they've been auto confirmed." I was starving, and after waiting two hours for food that I was charged for (yes, and now I have to contact Postmates to get a refund, possibly a month from now), I called the restaurant hoping they would provide good customer service and offer a solution or alternative. On a long weekend trip, we stopped in for a drink at the bar. Neither of us are the type to complain or be rude to servers but did notice that the tonic water in our drinks was flat. We commented to both bartenders and 1 said nothing and the other said "oh, is that messed up again?" To add insult to injury, there was no "I"m sorry" or "would you care for a different drink" or anything to make it right. Asked what we wanted and then left for 30 minutes, couldn't order so much as a water. Local's Pub Burger is one of my all-time favorite Memphis burgers. It's a messy one, so you'll need all the napkins you can get. The bun is soft and fluffy -- it doesn't do the best job in holding together the two patties, melted cheese and caramelized onions. But it's delicious from start to finish. The accompanying fries are always crispy, salty and a little greasy (not overwhelmingly so, though). The malt vinegar-infused mayo served on the side makes for great fry dip (or another burger topping). I don't like that smoking is allowed in the bar area (it's 2017), but at least the basement is smoke free. Other than that, I really don't have any negative things to say about this place. I love the location and dark-but-upscale atmosphere. Add an amazing burger to the mix and Local is a dependable winner. read more

A busy night in Menphis and we showed up with 10 people (we did call ahead). We had a single server, so slow. Don't get me wrong, she was working hard, but needed help. I think she was covering 5 additional tables. We ordered a lot of appetizers and all were very good. Mac and cheese slightly spicy, wonderfull. Calamari good. Big ass pretzel also a good choice, and brussel sprouts were above average. Now to the meal. Again, back to the single waitress. It seemed to take 15 minutes for all the food to be served. Being polite, everyone waited which results in cold fries. The Pub Burger did taste great! A lot of beef and cheese. I like this place. I had to let it grow on me a bit, but I'm definitely down with the dark vibe it has. ...Maybe it was because I finally sat at the bar. I don't know about you, but that is my favorite place to sit. When you sit at the bar, you really get a feel for the place. Plus you typically get to watch the entire restaurant. And you get to talk to the bartender. A bartender is 9 times out of 10 a lot more entertaining than a waiter. Anyways, I like the food - mostly the burger. I like coming here later in the evening and chatting with a girlfriend about life. The menu seems to change quite a bit but I've never had something I didn't like. And since I love to observe, it seems to be the downtown neighborhood watering hole. I had a great experience here. I'm traveling for work, so I'm by myself. I decided to sit at the bar. The bartender, Moesha, was very sweet and made me feel right at home. I asked about local beers, and she recommended Ghost River's "Riverbank Red". I loved it! I also had the fresh clams (great !) and the chopped salad. The salad was gigantic and delicious! The cucumber pico was the best ingredient. Seeing as I was craving a big salad, this meal really hit the spot!! I love everything about this place. The location, the atmosphere, the setting, and especially the food. Their fries could possibly be the most addicting fries in Memphis. So far I have tried the bar fries, duck quesadilla, french dip, and the short rib tacos. The tacos were not my favorite but I would give it a solid B. The bar fries could be one of my favorite apps ever. Take into account that I love blue cheese, but these things are drenched in blue cheese and bacon. The french dip in the aju is something that I will absoluetly order on my next visit. A friend had the burger and added a fried egg and bacon and he raved about how good of a burger it was. Judging by the emptiness of his place, I would say he wasn't lieing. The wait staff as a whole seems to be pretty spot on. They always seem willing to answer any questions one might have about the menu without seeming to lose patience with the party. I gave this place 5 stars because it has turned into a "go to" spot for me whenever I can't decide where I want to eat while downtown. read more

Last night before I went to the Forum to watch the Tigers smash UAB in one of the best basketball games I've ever seen, I needed some food. My mom (and perpetual Tigers game date) suggested that we stop by the new Local Gastropub on Main. She had been a few times before and loved the food. Local is in the old Sauces space, and as you can see from the photo, the room is entirely different. The bright colors and modern furniture have been replaced by warm, dark wood and comfy leather lounge chairs. There are TVs over the bar, and a more intimate downstairs dining room. The thinking behind a gastropub is that it's like a regular, local bar, but with better-than-pub-grub food. We were in a hurry to get to the game, so I just ordered a bowl of shrimp and she crab soup and mom got a spinach and goat cheese salad. Our awesome waiter understood our need for speedy eating and had our food out to the table within five minutes of taking our order. My soup was delicious - the creamy broth was well seasoned, and there were generous chunks of shrimp and crab. I didn't try mom's salad, but it looked delicious - spinach leaves covered in goat cheese, onion and nuts. read more
