This place has everything that we look for in a pizza place - great pizza made from area-sourced ingredients of good quality, a long list of local beers, special menu options, and good tunes. We started with an order of Deez Knots - excellent - fresh, chewy, and served with a delicious marinara. We shared "The Jimmy" salad - perfect choice for us and massive. Fresh, high-quality greens and other veg with a really good dressing. We each ordered a 10" pie and shared. The Classic Margarita is perfect. They're now using micro basil on it, which is even sweeter. The other pizza - Duh - was very tasty - delicious sausage and caramelized onions. The crusts are what make them so great. The fried mozzarella was nothing special, but it really wasn't bad. The cheese inside was good but sparse and the outside was a very very crunchy. It didn't taste burnt but there were parts when I'd bite into the mozzarella and I'd only have the fried outside in my mouth, but no cheese! They gave a generous amount of dipping sauce, but it was super watery. The pizza was an interesting experience.. the smoked mushrooms were DELICIOUS, and so was the sliced meatball. I loved the basil and mozzarella. I didn't see or taste the ricotta; I wish they had added more basil, there wasn't much but it tasted great. The crust had a crunchy texture and a smoky flavor, probably from the oven. But the pizza dough itself became soggy after 10 minutes because the sauce was extremely watery! There are combos that make sense like peanut butter and jelly, ketchup and mustard, ice cream and sprinkles. But occasionally you hear a strange pairing and you wonder, "could that be decent?" Such is the case with pizza and the beach. I have long been a firm believer in seafood, bar food, and local cuisine being the only acceptable food options when at the beach. Think about it; the sounds and smell of the ocean, the desire to be outside as much as possible, the thrill of not being home for a few days. But on a chilly, rainy night at the beach none of that seemed a viable option. So I searched local spots near me and up popped Local Pie. I scanned the menu, learning that they serve Neapolitan-style wood-fired pizza, and thought I would give them a try. I am so glad I did. I started out with Deez Knots (yeah, they did that on purpose) which could be a meal in themselves. They were delicious! But I had to try a pie. I went with the D'artagian, which has mozzarella, duck confit, herbed goat cheese, arugula, tomatoes, onion, and smoked mushrooms. Now you see why I am rethinking my views on pizza at the beach. You have a wide range of beers, ciders, and wines so whatever drink you prefer to pair can be ordered. On a better night the outdoor seating would have been the spot. It looks like the back deck of someone's house, only with amazing food being served to order. Give this place a try next time you're at Hilton Head. After talking to several locals in Bluffton I decided to try Local Pie. Came in ordered a beer and a pizza to go. Pizza was done before I finished my beer. Got home and was pleasantly surprised by the look and taste of the pizza. Good Pizza is not a common thing in the south and this was very good. It had good amount of toppings and wasn't to wet with sauce and liquid from toppings. Sauce was good and crust was nice and crispy. Will definitely try again. read more

Unfortunately we noticed two patrons enter the restaurant unmasked and seated. We highly recommend Local Pie for a great place to eat pizza in Hilton Head. The atmosphere is great with the decor being somewhat industrial yet modern. We have 4 children and they were able to accommodate us quickly inside. The owner was helping the staff and even brought over some small pieces of pizza dough for the children to play with. We highly recommend the knots and the cookie. We got a market pie and a BYOP on gluten free crust with no cheese and devoured them, my parents ordered a BYOP on the standard crust and said it was great. We will be returning on all future trips to HHI. GF/vegan pizza details- GF: the GF crust isn't made in house but it's the best of the pre-made GF pizza crusts with an awesome texture and crunch Vegan: no vegan cheese available but the ingredients were so fresh and plentiful that it was not missed. The market pie has a flavorful roasted garlic base and is loaded with seasonal veggies making it an ideal cheeseless pie, and the build your own pie with house made tomato sauce and micro-basil had plenty of flavor without cheese. We arrived in Hilton Head and I decided to run to the grocery store after a 13 hour car ride. I used the online ordering app because it allowed for a future pick up time which would allow me to grocery shop and then pick up our food on the way back to the condo. I placed the order at 6:15p and received a text message at 7 o'clock, stating that my order was ready even though I asked for a future pick up time of 7:45p. I immediately called the store, and the lady said oh there's a glitch in the app your order isn't ready. So I went about my shopping and then arrived at the restaurant at 7:40p to pick up our food. Our food was ready at the time I arrived. As we opened the pizzas back at the condo each one was so burnt it was awful. I mean all black bottoms and crust. I bet the order was ready at 7p and I was lied to so they probably put the pizzas back through to cover up the mistake. I mean why even offer an option for pick up time if people can't pay attention to details. Our food was $80. Extremely disappointed and will not be eating there again. 3 of our 8 mozzarella triangles were empty inside. Just an all around bad experience. Service: We were in kind of late, but server was still very kind and attentive. Also, quick and efficient. Atmosphere: Typical pizza joint with beach vibes. The best part was the live music. They had an artist in that did a fantastic job with his live music! Cleanliness: No issues here Overall: Solid location if you want some pizza on the island. What a roller coaster -- what started as eager excitement for hearty, flavorful pizza in the middle of our vacation ended up as deflation and disappointment. We had such high hopes. As soon as we found out that Local Pie had gluten free crusts, we called in an order from our waterfront hotel. The voice over the phone told us our pizzas would be ready in 25 minutes. We got in the car and made a quick stop at a grocery on the way to pick up drinks and snacks to go with our pizzas. We pulled into Local Pie's parking lot 20 minutes after we'd hung up the phone and figured we'd have to wait a few more minutes for our pizzas to be pulled out of the oven, but they were sitting on the bar, waiting for us. I handed my card over to the woman behind the bar ($40 for two small GF pizzas and a salad -- not cheap) and we happily climbed back into the car for the five minute drive back to our hotel. When we arrived, we were heartbroken to find two things: 1) Our pizzas were cold. 2) Our pizzas were burnt. First, we arrived before we were told to pick up our order. This tells me that the order-taker wildly overestimated how long our pizzas would take to prepare. The restaurant was dead when we walked in, so this is my best guess. It was unfortunate, but not a deal breaker. The real disappointment, though, was the charred pizzas. Whoever pulled the pizzas out of the oven and transferred them to their boxes had to have seen how overcooked they were. The crusts were black in spots. Any restaurant worker should have noticed they were unfit to serve. I'm sure that if we were dining in, these pizzas would not have been brought to our table. The pizzas were boxed and stacked in a bag when we arrived, so we didn't think to inspect them before leaving. The kicker is in combining these two grievances. If the pizzas were overdone but produced early, the pizza chefs would have had time to chuck the burnt pies and cook two new ones, in turn serving us a quality meal at the accurate temperature. But Local Pie didn't do that. And now here we are. The pizzas themselves were fine. Overpriced, less than filling, and in need of better seasoning. We were glad we stopped for snacks on the way to pick up our order, because even after finishing the pizzas we were still hungry. We'll be back to Hilton Head because our vacation was lovely, but we won't return to Local Pie. read more
