We were overwhelmed by the excellence of the Bronzino fillet and outstanding service by our waiter Sammy. Positano's has a very intimate and aesthetically pleasing old world Italian ambiance with Italian themed music playing softly in the background. The Pasta Bolognese sauce was home made and wonderful. Had a large group, that we called ahead and verified they could handle and then asked if the large group being together wasn't possible could we be put at tables close by. We arrived to the restaurant and they had a table for us all to sit together. -A server spilled oil and vinegars in a girls lap, NEVER apologized. -The salmon was wrong TWICE. We asked for salmon with no vegetables, no sauce, no capers and they said we didn't specify we wanted it "plain" and that we didn't read the menu and that it specified there was different vegetables that we didn't specifically say we didn't want on the salmon. -A girl ordered her penne without prusciotto (sp?) and the server thought she said "without peas" and had to redo that -Three people ordered to go meals WHEN we ordered our food and we did not get them. -Our drinks were not refilled a single time -A member of the party who ordered eggplant because it was a GF option, NEVER received her food and the server told us that it was because they couldn't make it without gluten but did NOT communicate that our party member should reorder and couldn't be accommodated. -We were then told that the kitchen was closed and none of our to go meals or redone meals could be given to us. This was after the server slapped his book down and rudely told us that he had been yelled at by the kitchen and that we weren't doing a good job ordering and that was the problem. -Tried to charge us for more wine and sodas than we actually ordered. When we disputed this, we had to literally show the amount of soda and wine glasses at the table to prove we weren't lying to them... We then asked to speak to a a manager who told us they could accommodate everything but the salmon and never apologized for the oil or any of the rudeness. On top of ALL of this tomfoolery, the food was mid at best, not worth any of the rudeness and poor communication. One meal was sent back due to the fact that the noodles were hard and undercooked. I sent two emails to the Positano manager with the hope of addressing my concerns, but to no avail so I can only guess that manager doesn't really care if negative reviews are posted. And I wasn't even seeking a refund - an apology would've sufficed. Anyway, on July 13 we placed a $115 To-Go order, and all 3 dishes were below par. The Parmigiana was very dry - as if the dish had been sitting around for hours. The Linguini della Costa was very bland ... as if zero effort was made; and worse of all, the clams were very sandy; no excuse for not adequately rinsing the clams; unable to eat! The third dish (veal Piccata) was above par - though the presentation (attached image) was a bit weak. read more

I had such high hopes! Came here with my mother to celebrate her 88th birthday. Service was terrible (barely saw our waiter and when we did, he was running so I'm assuming they were horribly under staffed; appetizer came with entree; never saw waiter after entree was served until we asked for the bill twice from the hostess and wasn't greeted at the table for at least 15 minutes after we arrived) and the food was worse! Ordered the caprise salad - no flavor, two slices of tomato cut in half and zero presentation; calamari and clams in what was supposed to be a garlic white wine sauce and was a flavorless broth with tasteless calamari and clams; swordfish and mixed vegetables with lemon and capers that again had no presentation and was subpar at best. I think the worst part was when we told the hostess AND our server that we were having an awful experience and NEITHER had any reaction! We will never go back and will tell everyone we know of this horrible experience! read more

We decided to try Positanos one night and the first thing we noticed is that we were the ONLY ones there. This was at 6:00 on a Saturday night. Not a good sign. My friend ordered a glass of Bogle Chardonnay. This bottle costs $11 in the store. Here they charged $12 for a half glass. Strike 1! She then ordered the mozzarella & tomato appetizer which was supposed to have olive oil and fresh basil. When it came it had balsamic vinegar only. When we asked the ONLY waiter he said they were out of basil (seriously?) and there was olive oil on the table. He should have mentioned they did not have these items before ordering it. Strike 2! I ordered the Veal Chop at medium and she ordered the shrimp scampi in white sauce. My chop was small, mainly fat and RAW and her meal looked like a monkey through it together plus there was NO sauce at all. I told the waiter what a disgrace this place was and we left. At 6:40 we were still the only ones in there. Gotta tell you something. read more

Despite previous reviews, we ended up here because of a gift certificate. We sat on the outside terrace dipping fresh baked bread into legitimate Italian olive oil. Our waiter was accommodating when it started to rain, and we ended up inside watching the storm. Our appetizer of parmesan encrusted asparagus beneath a savory sausage filled us both (we may or may not have been snacking on the bread all the while) Although some folks knock the slow service, I prefer sitting back, chatting, people watching and forgetting about the clock. I mean, isn't that what we come into a restaurant for in the first place? To relax and take a break from our rushed lives. All in all, we had a lovely time. This was definitely the worst Italian, or any other meal, I have ever had. The veal tasted frozen and was very tough. So I opted to send it back. They replaced it with the salmon special with shrimp for the evening. The salmon was essentially flavorless and the inside was raw. We sent the food back a second time and asked to speak with the manager. The owner came over and yelled at my girlfriend after he had asked what was on my plate, and she responded with "you don't know what it is?" He obviously did not recognize his own salmon which was smothered in red god knows what sauce. If that wasn't enough, he proceeded to get in my face as we were walking out. He specifically asked me "Who I was, who did I think I am?" To which I responded with "What? I'm a customer." He followed that up telling me I only came to his restaurant to "piss him off" which obviously makes perfect sense. Wait there's more. He then told me to "get the fuck out and never come back" to which I responded "Don't worry, we wont." This place is horrible with the worst management I have ever encountered. The worst food I have ever had. And I have never been treated so ridiculously. I will NEVER return EVER, and either should you. read more

So basically my dining partner and I were charged $50.00 for two pieces of veal-6 broccoli florets--two waters and some bread. Waitress was rushed rushed rushed-she practically threw us the basket of bread from the other side of the dining room. Doors to front of restaurant were open for outside dining. The flies were a nice touch to our $50.00 meal. They have a blue "fly light"--but it was totally dirty and obviously not working too well. I came home and had a turkey sandwich. The appetizers are better than the main course. The same waiter has been there two times for us and both times he is not very attentive. He never checks how is the meal. The eggplant parm appetizer was served cold, was extremely bland, and was completely overwhelmed with cheese. My entree - rigatoni with mozzarella and broccoli rabe in a tomato sauce - was equally devoid of flavor... I didn't even eat half of it. Luckily, the cheesecake was edible. Throughout dinner the waiter was very accommodating, so I had considered giving this place two stars - until something happened when we received the check. I suppose the waiter saw that we were going to include the tip on a credit card, so he walked over to our table and said - and I quote - "You can tip cash if you like... Just a mere suggestion". I have NEVER encountered such an unprofessional individual in my many restaurant experiences, and he truly made the entire facility look bad. My fiancée and I went for dinner on a Thursday night. The bar was full but the dinning area was almost completely empty. There was no host when we arrived. The waiter was friendly but seemed unfocused or inexperienced (I can't put my finger on it). For instance he offered to bring bread 3 times and always forget. We had to ask for it after he forgot the 3rd time. He also asked twice if we were done and if we wanted to pack the leftovers to go. Food was between mediocre and just ok. Get a window view! I LOVED the Kitsch Decor of the Amalfi Coast of Italy. My limoncello martini was scrumptious as well as the tuna tartare, etc. etc. appetizers .... I can imagine coming here in the summer months (I am here in the THICK of winter) when you'd have a view of historical Philadelphia. This may have be worst service I have ever had. If I could have given 0 rating I would have. After 90 minutes of sitting in the restaurant, we had been served one round of drinks and I appetizer. I hate leaving a single star, but this place had it coming. We arrived on an empty Monday evening. We had a $15 Restaurant.com gift certificate. Upon seeing this, the waitress treated us like second class citizens. The other table next to us got the specials read to them, as well as the wine list, this didn't happen to us. After being seated, we waited nearly 10 minutes for the waitress to come take our order. There were two guys seated at the bar and one other table, not exactly bustling. Be warned! EVERYTHING IS ALA CARTE! I keep seeing this pop up in restaurants. Our $28 dollar entree's didn't come with ANYTHING! No pasta on the side, no salad, no potato wedges. We were begrudgingly given a bread basket, which was thrown onto our table by the pushy waitress. The waitress bugged us after ordering, "You no want wine?! You no want appetizer?!" She was pushy and her thick heavy accent and standoffish demeanor just added to it. We both ordered the same thing, fried veal with crabmeat, asparagus and provolone, in a wine sauce. The meal itself was tasty, the portions were about average. The crabmeat was still cold from when the "chef" took it out of the can. The wine sauce was lacking. In short, I won't be back. I liked the interior design and the views, but they really have to work on their prices and entree choices. And hire a waitress that isn't so awful and pushy! read more

This restaurant used to be pretty good, but it has gone badly downhill. The mozzarella was reconstituted, like the stuff you get for $2 from Acme. My pasta main was inedible and got sent back. My partner's ravioli wasn't much better. They tried to fob us off with a 2010 bottle of wine when it said 2006 on the menu. There was an argument between the couple at the table next to us and the owner, which ruined the atmosphere and spoilt the night. I had high expectations for this restaurant when I entered. The restaurant is beautiful and we were given a nice table on the terrace, which momentarily brought me back to my dining experiences in Italy. Service was exceptional and very attentive. Then, the food came. I ordered linquini with clams and crab in a white sauce. As a first indication that I was in for a disappointment, the food came out in approximately 5 minutes, which should be impossible if the food was made fresh. The crab meat in the dish was obviously canned crab with no flavor. The sauce was tasty but on the bland side. What's the best part? My body recognized my mistakes and immediately called for an evacuation. I was sick for the better part of the night. I wanted to like this restaurant as I loved the location and decor, but the food was a huge disappointment to both me and my stomach. read more

Today me and a few of my friends were craving a nice Italian meal and happened to stumble across Positano Ristorante & Bar and all I can say if I wish we never did. The food was okay nothing to rave about and we were the only ones in the restaurant (should have been the first sign). After we finished our meal we were paying the check and we saw a mouse run across the restaurant. We immediately notified the waitress and all she had to say was "They probably came inside from the construction." (Keep in mind that there was no construction anywhere near the restaurant). I was hosting some US OPEN friends, ( one of whom is the artist who created the beautiful Poster), and we had the good fortune to be placed on the terrace. My friend is from Arizona, and especially loved the bread~!! ( Bread is not the same there.) Our meals were wonderful, the drinks were mixed well and generous, and the service was spectacular. Not a fan of this place after my first visit. There was only one other table in the entire restaurant who was there and our food took absolutely forever to come out. All i had was a meatball appetizer and a pasta dish, it took 90 mins! The meatballs were good, but the pasta was just lacking flavor. The broccoli rabe tasted burnt and it over powered the past dish.The service was sub par to say the least. My husband and I came here after seeing the restaurant on the foodies show. Their prices are a little steep but both of us had good meals. The chicken and shrimp special was seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. I was able to customize the seafood linguine with a pink vodka sauce which turned out good. Overall a good meal but I do think they should lower their prices. read more

I have been to Positano several times in recent years and the quality is consistently very very good. The atmosphere is always pleasant and relaxed. The decor has a warm feel and features some lovely art. The food itself is always wonderful, although a bit expensive and the staff is extremely attentive and accommodating. I had the whole Bronzino special, and while it was cooked well, it was served table-side full of bones, and the caper sauce had very little flavor. Seized by the desire to have a good Italian pasta with red sauce meal I ventured into Ardmore thinking I could go to either of two Italian restaurants I normally dine at when in an Italian mood. I found both to be closed. I searched for options on my smart phone and decided to give Positano a try. Bad choice. The entire restaurant seemed to have on one wait person working. I saw another but I think perhaps he was handling the tables on the sidewalk. My server was scurrying all over the place covering tables in every section. It took a long time for her to take my drink order, come back for my entree order and then deliver same. The Positano website menu said they had a Bolognese pasta dish. When the waitress finally got back to me after seating new arrivals and delivering dishes she said that no, there was no Bolognese. I settled for Chicken Parmesan. Uninspired, anemic tasting red sauce (Is their chef not acquainted with garlic?) and rubbery chicken topped with mozzarella that seemed flavorless was only made edible by the barely acceptable side of pasta and liberal doses of an adequate red wine. Definitely not worth what I paid. Positano will not see me again. read more

Avoid! Reading the last review someone did say that people complain about the slow service and sometimes I am understanding to this, when I was in Italy this was a thing you go to a meal and it lasts forever! However we are not in Italy and beyond that the service wasn't just slow in the sense that they took awhile to prep the meals, the waiters who were very apologetic and nice when we did speak to them would constantly drop into the room to complete one task and then immediately leave without asking anyone else if they needed anything. We got our initial glasses of water, drank them and then about 20 minutes later were able to flag down someone to get them refilled. Despite several "excuse me" and other calls to the waiters as they would duck in and out of the room our calls were ignored and I have to imagine unless the waiters were extraordinarily hard of hearing they had to hear us one of the numerous times we tried calling (especially since we'd attempt 2-3 calls before they left the room) or motioning to them, the latter of which was useless as they would come into the room say to pick up a check from a table and would turn with their backs to the rest of the room, collect the check and then leave the room without ever turning around to check or look at the other tables. The same when they would refill another table's water they would come, fill it and then immediately leave as to avoid anyone else making a request. When we eventually did get our food the salad was soggy, I mean not like oh I have high standards in salad soggy, it was as if it has been sitting in a bathtub full of water put directly onto a plate and then had some salad dressing tossed on top. When we got our entrees again I do not have high standards in food, this can not be emphasized enough but my meal tasted like something worse then a 5 year old could cook. I don't mind and actually like al dente pasta but this tasted very off, not even al dente just like almost completely uncooked? I don't know how to describe it but suffice it to say, not good. The broccoli rabe I have to assume came from a frozen brick that you can buy at the grocery store that they never fully warmed up they just warmed it up and put it on the plate as it looked exactly like the store bought brick broccoli rabe and some of it was warm but other parts were very cold and tasted stiff like they were still partially frozen. Overall I would say just avoid this place and it's ashame because it was a beautiful building and design on the interior, someone obviously knew what they were doing when designing and making it look like a nice place to eat. The person that I have to imagine was the owner was driving a jaguar F-Type (a car with a base sticker price of $70,000), perhaps he would be better off putting that money into making better food? read more
