Went here on a whim on a Friday night. It was bustling but not completely full. We were able to get the last high top table in the bar area. It was a horrible round table honestly, they need to remove it and replace with the same rectangular tables that they had a couple of already. Only bad thing I have to say about the entire experience. There was nowhere to put your legs, your bag, or anything more than a drink. Luckily a couple left the bar within 10 mins so we sat there. We had an excellent food and wine, and an even better experience. We ordered the burrata appetizer, my partner had the lasagna and I got the mushroom pasta special of the day. Everything was delicious. You could tell the chef thought carefully about all of the elements of each dish working together, especially in the burrata app. The owner gave us a free pana cotta dessert. I have no idea why, but it was such a nice treat. Delicious as everything else was, and perfectly set. We will come back for sure, just won't accept that one horrible table. This is a very cute spot! I stopped by for dinner with a friend, and we both really enjoyed it. The ambiance here is unmatched. It feels like you are in Italy, with all of the lemons and mosaics lining the walls. The staff was very friendly, and we were seated very quickly. We started with the house focaccia, which was salty and came with olive oil that paired super nicely with it. We both ended up getting the spicy vodka rigatoni, which is where things threw me off a little. I love vodka pasta, but this did not taste like vodka pasta. It has smoked mozzarella in it, but the smoked flavor overpowered the dish to the point where that was all you could taste. It didn't taste bad, but I wouldn't say it tastes like vodka pasta. The waiter ended up giving us a free panna cotta, which was extremely nice of him, and it tasted delicious! One of the better spots I've tried in San Jose, and I would definitely come read more

This has been on our list for a while and we're glad we finally tried. We were able to walk in and get a table for 5 on a Friday 8pm with little wait. The restaurant was pretty warm inside and we were sweating through our time there. I don't think they had AC and they just had a couple fans blowing. As for the food, I really enjoyed the Ravioli di Aragosta and Lasagna. The ravioli was filled with a good amount of lobster meat and the tiger prawns were cooked perfectly. Our server was very attentive and a funny guy. We got a birthday dessert for the bday boy and our server also brought out a complimentary dessert for the table. Came here on a random weeknight around 5, and the restaurant was empty, but by the time we left it was packed! The interior is really cute and they lean fully into the South Italian ambiance. The ceiling frescoes are a great touch. Our server and bartender, Rosa, was really lovely! She made great drinks and paced our meal perfectly, and was really warm in her service. We shared the fritti misti, I liked the black olive sauce, it was unexpected and provided good balance. Caesar salad was standard, honestly it's funny to see a Caesar at an Italian restaurant since it's not actually Italian! My hunny and I also shared the vodka sauce pasta, SO yummy, very saucy and creamy and it had good depth of flavor, texture of Mac and cheese like from Homeroom in oakland. Also...STEAK. We went to Locanda Ischia for a birthday dinner. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and seated right away. What caught our eyes upon arrival was the blue color theme and the unique decoration of the restaurant. We ordered an appetizer Tagliere Locanda (cured meat and cheese) to start with. For main dishes, we got lasagna and lobster ravioli. The appetizer portion was huge! Although we ordered the size for 2 people, we were shocked by how big the plate was! It was a large plate filled with nuts, cured meats, cheese, and salad greens. The portion was more for 3-4 than 2. The cured meats were fresh and paired well with the cheese and nuts. The lobster ravioli was filled with lobster chunks and served with creamy sauce. It also came with a few pieces of shrimp. The lasagna was super creamy too and came with a generous portion of ground beef. We were pretty full after the main dishes and decided not to order dessert. However, the servers were super kind to offer us a free panna cotta. The panna cotta was smooth and creamy, and the sweetness was balanced out by the sour berry sauce on top. Overall we had great experience at Locanda Ischia. My only complaint was that we had to wait for about 20min after the appetizer to get our pasta. read more

This was my second time at Locanda Ischia. The food, cocktails, and desserts were very good like the first time we had dinner, but today we were there for lunch and it was difficult to pick the food I wanted because there were so many tempting selections on the lunch menu. I ended up choosing the daily special Risotto, which was as authentically prepared as those I have had several times in northern Italy. Topped with fall-apart tender braised veal and burrata, the Risotto Milanese (saffron rice) was a perfect "al dente." My partner had the braciola, which was incredibly succulent, flavorful, and easy to eat. The carrots that came with it were expertly cooked: firm but tender. We were served by Antonio, who is one of the best waiters I have experienced in quite some time. Delightfully friendly and knowledgeable, Antonio made our lunch experience very satisfying, pleasurable, and not rushed. We had an early lunch reservation, so we had a little extra time to chit chat before getting down to the menu. Just a note for those not familiar with Italian tradition: it is considered rude to deliver your check to you until you ask for it, so when you are ready to leave, just ask for the bill. This is just one more indication that Locanda Ischia is quite authentic and traditional in its food and service. We don't live in San Jose, so we can't dine here as often as we would like. We are fortunate, however, to have friends in Willow Glen, and I always suggest Locanda Ischia when meeting for lunch or dinner. read more

Also very filling. Overall the dish is delicious but parts of the pasta were a little stiff. *GNOCCHI SORRENTINA (9/10)-homemade potato gnocchi tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, basil. Gnocchi was well made and you can definitely taste the acidity of the tomato sauce and know that it's great quality. *KIDS CHICKEN(8.8)- chicken was crispy and easy to chew. A bit thin. Large French fries portion size. Cooked well but a little bland *KIDS CHEESE PIZZA (7.9/10)- pizza is pretty basic Ambience: beautiful setting. Feels like you are in Italy. From the servers outfits, dining tables, tile mosaics, ceiling leaves, and lemons, venue stands out. Restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining. Service: Great service. It's busy being that it's Mother's Day weekend too. Definitely make reservations because we didn't. We were lucky enough that the hostess gave us seats immediately that were pre reserved but kindly stated if we can finish up in an hour wish is fair given the situation. Came in Friday night and it was bumping! Even though we made a reservation, we still had to wait for a little while. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated and it felt cute and quirky. The food had ample of pastas and pizzas options and we decided to get a salad, two pastas and a pizza to share amongst three of us. Visited this small restaurant on a weeknight with some friends. Great food and service; only docking a star for bad ventilation throughout the restaurant and the pricey tag. The Margherita pizza was lovely, and must be eaten straight out of the oven. The Ziti dish was outstanding; I usually stick to red sauce, but completely fell for this one. Service with a smile was amazing. I wish there were better airflow through the restaurant - got quite uncomfortably warm, as other reviewers mentioned. That said, do I think this was worth the $60-70 I spent? Probably not, as it's just a humble Willow Glen restaurant and the experience isn't SF city level. I discovered this restaurant on Yelp while searching for "happy hour," so the four of us decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a fantastic addition to Willow Glen! Since we didn't have a reservation, we were told we could only sit on the patio--perhaps because we just wanted appetizers. I wasn't sure, but I didn't mind; the weather was pleasant, and it was enjoyable to watch people stroll by. Still, I noticed the indoor area wasn't full, which made me wonder why we didn't have the option to sit inside. Every 5 to 10 minutes, a few servers or hostesses would step out of the restaurant, seemingly searching for someone or something. Regardless, the service was prompt, and our food arrived at the table without delay. Overall, we enjoyed the Happy Hour menu. The Truffle Fries were a favorite--so much so that I ordered a second round. The Brussels sprouts were outstanding, with a rich balsamic glaze and Parmigiano Reggiano that made them taste almost decadent. The Bruschetta was also delicious, featuring fresh tomatoes, basil, and other flavorful ingredients. The Panna Cotta was silky, delicate, and elegantly melt-in-your-mouth. On the other hand, the Margherita pizza was underwhelming--edible but not memorable. Similarly, the sangria lacked vibrancy. I would definitely return to try the main menu. Honestly for nothing else just the service i will give this place 5 stars. Amazing service, they are attentive and friendly and make sure that your evening is special. The food was pretty good. We had also ordered meatballs and both tiramisu and the panacotta. Both deserts amazing, appetizers were good! Bruschetta could use a balsamic or pepper but still very fresh. Pasta was good! Ribeye was our favorite! The pizza we tried, was not to our liking but i think it was just too sweet for us. Will try another next time. Attended a Mother's Day lunch with about 15 people. Service was awesome and the delivery cadence was spot on with most dishes arriving at around the same time. I tried the chicken parm and it was a large portion with beaded, but soggy thin cut pounded cutlets. It came with two, stacked on top of each other. Really solid spot for Italian food. I started off with the Smoke and Mirrors (mezcal based drink) and my wife got the Mediterranean Garden Tonic (Gin based drink) followed by the Rigatoni alla Vodka with steak and the spaghetti vongole. The rigatoni was great. The smoked mozzarella gave the pasta a nice little edge (can you tell I like smoky things?). Only complaint was they asked how I would like my steak. I asked for medium rare and it came out medium well. The spaghetti was good, but very ocean forward tasting and a ton of olive oil used. Our server was great! Checked in on us and made some good recommendations. Only left us with one pitcher of water, but I'm sure he would have brought another one if we had asked. If it's a hot day, prepare to sweat a bit because this place does not have AC. But otherwise, enjoy this beautifully themed restaurant with lovely food. read more

We went here last night to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary and had a great experience. Both the outside of the restaurant and inside are decorated so beautifully and it truly makes you feel like you're in Italy. Our server was very sweet and even went out of her way to have them make an adjustment we requested to one of the daily specials which we really appreciated. We ordered the house bread and fritto misto and both were delicious. For entrees, we got the special which was saffron risotto, the filet mignon and the salmon. My only complaint about the food was that none of our meals were hot. All were room temperature which was disappointing but everything tasted very good! I would definitely come back here and try more dishes. Make sure to make a reservation as they get super busy and it's a smaller restaurant. Made a reservation on Opentable to get dinner with a friend and we came on Sunday night around 5:45pm. We got to choose where we wanted to sit and it had a cute vibe inside (very cozy). We ordered the bread basket, fritto misto, zucchini fettuccine, and rigatoni. Everything came out very fast and our server was very attentive. My favorite wasn't even the food it was the dessert We ordered the tiramisu which had nutella drizzle and it was honestly the best tiramisu i've had! My family and I dined here on a Sunday night right before the dinner rush started. We were lucky to get a parking spot in the front and were seated right away as we had a reservation. The restaurant is on the smaller side, and gets filled up quickly. There are window seats, a small outside patio, and a small bar area. It is decorated nicely with scenes from Ischia, and lemons and their vines throughout. We visited the island of Ischia last September, so it was cool to feel that vibe again. Locanda Ischia has a nice selection of specialty drinks, plus beer, wine, and everything else. I had the lobster ravioli with 4 large prawns on top which was delicious. My wife had the Ziti amalfi with pesto sauce. Our kids had a pizza and chicken fettuccine alfredo. All was fantastic. Our server, Sergio, was an outstanding server. He was very personable and had great recommendations and was always observing if we needed something. For dessert we had the panna cotta, chocolate tort, and chocolate gelato. All were tasty and left us full. By the time we left, the restaurant was full, and there were people waiting to get in. Word is out that this is a wonderful Italian restaurant here in Willow Glen. The space definitely has the same vibe as their Campbell location -- cozy, warm, and really nicely decorated. Service was great. Our waiter was super sweet and attentive. But the food was just okay for me. I'm not sure why, but I definitely prefer the dishes at the Campbell location more. We tried the fritto misto, basically calamari. It was good, but I wasn't a fan of the sauce. My friend ordered the special of the day, the lobster ravioli, and I got the rigatoni alla vodka. Both dishes kind of tasted like they had the same sauce, and overall everything felt a bit bland. I'd come back for the service and the ambiance, but food-wise, I'd still choose their Campbell location. read more

Came back to try some more delicious Italian food and was not disappointed. For drinks I tried the Locanda Spritz which is basically a lemoncello spritz, very tasty! For started we tried their bruschetta and it was great. I loved the addition of the green olives and they did not skimp out at all. The basil and tomatoes were very fresh. For entrees we split their San Daniele pizza and vodka pasta. OH MY GOD! Whatever you do get the vodka pasta. I've never tasted something so delicious! Made reservations on Open Table and needed to move the reservation due to conflicts with my previous appt. Had a workshop down the way and it ran later than expected. The host was incredible and informed me that they were running behind about 20 minutes behind. She communicated throughout the processes which is the only thing you could actually ask for. I appreciate that instead of being ignored. The restaurant feel is like family. The servers make you laugh & the interior takes you to another world. I adored the tiles and color the chose for the walls. It's as if you're transported to Italy. The moment you sit down, the server is there getting you water, still or a bottle of sparking. This was our third meal here (Saturday, August 29 for dinner). The first two were awesome, which is why we came back. We were incredibly disappointed. The octopus appetizer was tough and hard to cut. The pasta dish with sausage had incredibly small pieces of sausage, and the sauce was unimaginative like a macaroni and cheese out of the box. The focaccia bread was delicious but portions were incredibly small for $5.95. The only saving grace was my son's ribeye was delicious, as were his side portions of fresh carrots and asparagus. It made us wonder if the 3rd string chefs were there Saturday night. We're hoping this was a one-off problem and we'll give it another try, as prior dinners were fantastic. read more

I typically lean towards the positive in my reviews and wanted to do that here but decided I'm going to go with the truth We started with the frito misto, good - perfectly seasoned. I missed that it was served with an olive dip which I was bummed about as I'm not a huge olive fan, but it tasted fine without. Our second app was the arancine (fried risotto balls) and this is when my doubt began to creep in. The risotto seemed more like a pilaf which brought back memories of the last time I was disappointed by risotto, and it happened to be in the restaurant that held the space Locando Ischia took over. It made me wonder if some of the recipes transferred over from the previous restaurant. My husband ordered salmon and I got the carbonara. Thinking back on it I should have sent it back and am regretting that decision. The noodles were undercooked and the pepper and salt was very heavy handed. I ate about a third of it and took the rest of it home in hopes of doctoring it up at home. We have been to the Campbell location and were amazed by our meal so I wasn't sure what the disconnect was here and if they have a different head chef. This restaurant is visually pleasing inside. The staff is friendly. The food is alright. Caprese and arancini were the best part. Lobster ravioli is really shrimp, hard to find any lobster flavor. Ziti and gnocchi were one note, hard to want to finish the plate. We did not finish any of our entres, we did not want them to go either. I was surprised that they allow a photographer to solicit pictures in the restaurant, lots of flashes, pretty tacky. Reminded me of bar hopping in Ensenada. $190 not including tip for 2 apps and three entres. read more
