I'm definitely going to add to the chorus of reviews praising Locksmith Monkey. They responded to my online inquiry within minutes, and scheduled an appointment for three days later. The only issue was that they were ~20 minutes late to the appointment. But they let me know they were on their way at the scheduled appointment time. Leo worked for about an hour to re-key three locks, two of which I didn't have a key for. I though re-keying Kwikset locks without a key meant you had to drill them out and replace the hardware. Thankfully Leo corrected my erroneous impression and was able to disassemble and re-use the existing hardware. He also fixed up the front door's lock, which I did have a key for, but is old hardware that was getting tricky to use. I am so glad I get to keep the old hardware - not sure if it's original to the house, but it's still cool. He keyed all three locks to the same new key and made a couple copies for me on the spot. The new keys are branded with their logo and phone number. Apparently the shape of a key's teeth correspond to numbers, and the numbers Leo chosen for my new key are auspicious ones. Kind of a fun fact! Total bill was $415. Locksmiths are expensive regardless but I didn't feel that this was outrageous for efficient and friendly help that solved the issue. read more

Do you need a genius? a skilled craftsperson? a mobile superhero? Barack at Locksmith Monkey has saved my 93 Volvo TWICE. Once when I lost my car keys and needed to have a new key made. I had a key made at the dealership that didn't work. Barack showed up and hand-tooled the key to get it to work in the ignition. Recently someone tried to steal my car by jacking the ignition module with a drill. Again Barack came to the rescue. He tried a new ignition module that didn't work, and came back with a salvaged 93 module. And then proceeded to take apart the steering column, etc. to get everything to work. My life saver is BARAK from LOCKSMITH MONKEY!!! I own a mini coup' and from The day I bought the car I had only one key and always kept it safe. Just for the simple fact to make a copy of this key with the bottoms on the top cost a fortune at the dealer store. But as you know sometimes when you save on one side you're spending more on the other and here's my story. On Friday evening my wife I went out for a beer in downtown Portland by the river. My wife first it was right next to us the whole time disappeared along with my wife on and guess what my only key to my car. Save yourself the headache, Barak took over 2 months to install door hardware that I had to supply him (he couldn't source the hardware and he's the locksmith), labor was supposed to be $900 but that price skyrocketed to $2065 because he had to buy the right tools to install (What?) I paid half upfront because I needed the work done. It also took him 2 separate visits to complete. On the 2nd visit he demanded I pay him 100% before the job was completed and would not send pictures of his work (I was not onsite to confirm). To top it off, it was shitty quality work. These guys are a bunch of Clowns. We had a break in so we called them to come fix it. I was very clear on what was needed to fix the door. Just needed hinges swapped out and the door hung. So we waited an hour and the guy showed up and could barley speak english. And he showed up with no parts after a hour wait. Then he leaves to go get parts after arguing with the guy. So 20 min later he calls to say he couldn't fix the door. Buyer beware, these guys don't have a clue. Either that or there dispatcher doesn't understand simple english. I was not a customer of Locksmith Monkey but my friend was. I watched the whole thing as she had no key for her Audi TT. Barack came out and I want to point out that he had the latest technology available. I called several locksmiths and could not find anyone that could program the key, they all said it had to go to the dealer to have that done. Well, he had the equipment to do that, very impressive! When it came to cutting the key, he had this little gizmo that went in to the door lock and from that he was able to cut the key in his van in no time. I can't say enough great things about Barak! He rekeyed the locks to our new house and made the experience so easy. We then made the mistake of taking our new keys to Home Depot to have more copies made -- afterwards we started having issues with all of our keys!
