Because of good reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor we put Lofty Pursuits on our to-do list for Tallahassee. Since we were entering via I-10, I suggested we stop on our way to the campground on the east side of the city. Our GPS took us down a side street to a shopping center area, where all we managed to find was a sign with the business name on it. Frustrating. I told my husband we could try again later. We came back later that day with the car, and this time Google maps took us a totally different way with the same results....not arriving at Lofty Pursuits! After driving around a bit, my sharp-eyed husband finally saw it further down the road on the opposite side of the street. It was very hard to turn into their parking lot because of their mobile business truck parked right at the entrance, but we made it. My first thought upon entering the shop was "after all we did to get here, boy what a letdown". What I assume was the candy making area was silent with no candy to purchase in sight. Disappointing. There is a large area with the ice cream displayed in the usual glass case. A large assortment of flavors to be sure. The rest of the small shop was taken up by several shelves of board games, puzzles, small toys, and lots and lots and lots of discs for disc golf. As we were leaving, we stopped at the ice cream counter to get some cones. Unfortunately since we can't eat ice cream without taking off our masks, and the scooper person admonished my husband for pulling his down, we chose to leave without trying what likely was the high point of the business. Other reviews have said the ice cream was very good. Knowing what I know now, Lofty Pursuits was not worth a special trip, much less two. read more

I have been watching your videos on youtube for a while. I enjoy the artistry of it & that you make the effort to educate yourself further. So I finally did a couple orders. The candy was truly amazing. This is the only good part of my experience with your company. Starting with your poorly made website, like something from 2003. Then there is your tracking information, or lack of until I got a mail saying 'on the way to post office" a week after my order. Your receipt didn't show till 6 hours later than paypal, so I had called & left a message. I just asked to make sure that one of the orders I was sending as a gift was being mailed to the correct address. I got a call from the owner. Who proceeded to be a rude jerk, then hung up on me as I was still speaking. After he intimated I was stupid because their receipt had the shipping address. The one I didn't get for 6 hours after the Paypal one, so I had already called. Needless to say I won't be ordering, suggesting you to anyone nor watching your videos again. It's a pity because I really enjoyed the candy, especially the mushroom. You do amazing work. And I didn't mind paying the prices for the quality and artistry. I KNOW I am going to get butchered for this, and I am so sorry in advanced, but I am going to be so honest. Also- reviewing from my experience back in Feb 2020. Yes, this place is adorable. The old school soda shop vibe is legit, the games available to play are fun, and the black and white photos on the walls are nostalgic. You know what you are in for when you walk in here. The uniforms the workers wear are even on brand! But then, when I walked in, I was hit with that sickly sweet smell that just make me feel sticky from the inside out. There was an awesome ice cream selection to choose from, and the soda combinations sounded crazy and fun, but we went with the classic banana split and I got a hot coffee. The split came out about 15 min later, even though we were one of 3 customers in the store at the time (a family and another couple). My coffee was forgotten about, so I had to ask for it again. I was served a cup of coffee that was not even room temperature warm and it had grounds floating in it. The cream she gave me curdled when I poured it into the coffee- so I just didn't drink it. The split was a banana split. Had the nuts, chocolate, whipped cream, cherry, bada bing bada boom. Nothing to rave about. I was really sad with my experience here, honestly. I heard so many great things about this place, how people had great memories here, how the games were so fun, etc. All the game were tried to play were missing pieces or just not games we were interested in. Lofty Pursuits is good. Really good. Great in house made hard candy. Amazing ice cream flavors and toppings. However, the customer service seems to heavily depend on when you go. My first experience was great, my second experience was less great. I felt rushed and the employees talked to each other while taking my order as if I wasn't there. It breaks my heart to say this, but after three bad experiences in a row, it seems like this is the new normal. We live really close to Lofty, so it's one of our breakfast go-tos and we especially appreciated all the precautions they've taken throughout the pandemic. In the last couple months, though, it's definitely been going downhill. First, I ordered delivery, which I'd done many times before. This was on a weekday fairly early in the morning. I can't remember what the ETA was, but it was somewhere around 30 minutes. After an hour, my food hadn't arrived, so I called to check in and got the "oh yeah, your order's next" spiel. Ok fine, they were a little slow one morning, no big deal. Literally a couple days later, we ordered breakfast delivery from them again. We weren't going to let one bad experience deter us. This time, we picked the time slot we wanted from the online options. Thirty minutes after our selected time, we had to call when there was still no sign of our food. They told us they only had one delivery driver, but that our order was next on the list. This made us a little nervous because we didn't know if our food was sitting out this whole time, but whatever. It finally came and tasted fine. Having been burned twice on delivery now, this morning we ordered pick-up. Our confirmation quoted a pick-up time for 15 minutes out, just enough time to freshen up a bit, jump in the car, and drive over. My boyfriend ended up sitting at the restaurant for over an hour. He could have waited to go pick up the food if we'd received an accurate wait time. Then, once he got the order home, we found out that none of our condiments had been included, even the ones we had to pay extra for. I would've been annoyed if we just didn't have the free ones, but not including items we paid for is ridiculous. So anyway, I'm leaving two stars instead of one because the food is still solid. I totally get that they're a local small business, but my bigger issue is that the quoted wait times do not at all match how long it will take and them leaving out our paid extras. My advice if you go is that, at least if you're doing pick-up or delivery, just ignore the quoted time and expect to wait 60-90 minutes and just make sure you have the condiments you want at home so you don't have to rely on them. Greg has always provided top notch service in all of his locations but this location is by far the dream i think he realized all along. It's nicely done, with a soda fountain inside and lots of games to buy and sit and play. Great work staff eager to hand you a fast sample taste of your prospective flavor. Lofty Pursuits lured us in with a free junior cone for my son's good report card. We went a few weeks ago to cash in and try out their old timey ice cream. I was pleasantly surprised by their Mexican ice cream that has a slight kick with a sprinkling of cayenne and cinnamon. At first glance it looks like it is a simple Rocky Road with its milk chocolate appearance and marshmallows intermingled throughout. Today we decided to take the family, grandpa, and his wife to Lofty Pursuits to try their renowned brunch. Our server, Lamar, was super friendly and gave great recommendations. I was torn between shrimp and grits and the corned beef hash. After great debate I ordered the corned beef. I've tried various restaurants' corned beef hash, but this meal was better than most I've had. The corned beef was marinated and as tender as a slow cooked roast. The hash had thicker chunks of potato and a medley of sautéed peppers and onions. If that wasn't enough, you get two eggs cooked to your preference. What's not to love!? Lofty is our go to when we are treating ourselves or saying goodbye to visitors. Before taking anyone to the airport, we drive all the way up to Lofty to say good-bye. I love most any sundae that is served with ganache and whipped cream (real stuff, not from a can). They also have great drinks. Tonight I had a carbonated water mixed with sorbet and lavender syrup - NOM! This is a great place to buy gifts for kids and curious people. They have complimentary board games and social gatherings scheduled - it's a nice hub for nice people. Once we stopped by with our own insulated cold container to transport Lofty to a friend in Monticello - they were accommodating and made a beautiful sundae, which was delivered intact. This ice cream parlor and toy store is the perfect place for families or to take your high school sweetheart. Or in me and my fiancee's case, a couple in their late-twenties who simply don't want to grow up. The ice cream menu is enormous and even includes lactose free, vegan, and sugar-free options. There's multitude of concoctions such as "spectaculars" that include The Kitchen Sink challenge, an homage to Adam Richman from Man vs. Food, sushi sundae which I'm dying to try next time, and the humorous "Topless in Public." In addition to the ones I've mentioned, there's 52 sundae selections on the menu! They'll also create any sundae combination that you wish so the options here are almost endless. If ice cream isn't your forte, they have hand-made sodas, egg creams, coffee, and more. You can also browse their toy selection that includes chemistry sets, Settlers of Catan, an enormous Frisbee collection, my favorite of Ugly Dolls, and so much more. My fiancee and I had a hard time deciding but we finally settled on a custom Chocolange sundae with a scoop of no sugar added dark chocolate ice cream, one scoop of birthday cake ice cream, orange marmalade syrup, strawberry whipped cream, and a cherry on top. It was easily the best ice cream sundae of my life. I grew up eating Baskin Robbins and Marble Slab ice cream (similar to Cold Stone Creamery) thinking it was the best ice cream ever. I once chanced upon the Grants Pass (OR) Pharmacy nearly 20 years ago. I just googled it, and everything is how it was. Authentic Soda Jerk, phosphates being served, effectively turning back the clock to Rockwellian times. (I encourage you all to look it up. It's a treat simply reading about it on YELP (Grants Pass Pharmacy, Grants Pass OR)). Lofty Pursuits is BETTER than turning the clock back. The talent behind the counter is immaculately uniformed to render an experience right outta Pop Tate's Chocklit Shoppe. The options likely exceed what was available from the yesteryear counter since I'm presuming that thorough research across the genre has culled variations present across the land - and not simply regional options. One gander at "The Logic of the Soda Fountain" (poster to the right of the southerly entrance / also embedded within hardcopy/online menus) outlines the workflow of many, many treats one could order up (Draft Drinks, Milk Drinks, Cream Drinks, Sharp Drinks, Carbonated Drinks & Syrup Drinks) SIMPLY FROM THE DRINK MENU. Candy is made here. Candy from back in the "way back when" days. I learned from the proprietor a few years back that the steel plate upon which the hard candy is cooled was purchased in California. I "think" it was sourced from an ocean vessel, but I'm not certain. Regardless, it is of such heft that the shipment and prep costs from California to TLH far exceeded the purchase price. That's the mark of a visionary. That's someone who is serious about bringing to TLH something that other towns/cities just don't have. The ice cream is tremendous. I don't know the story behind the ice-cream. I'm sure the website can illuminate those interested parties. The Root Beer - I do know something about the Root Beer. Hailing from Milwaukee (WI), the merry people of Sprecher Brewery have been concocting Root Beer and kegging the stuff since the mid '80s. It is the goods. A Root Beer float with this and the vanilla ice cream from here makes all others pale. Having said all of this, my favorite part of Lofty Pursuits has nothing to do with the consummables. Rather, it is in the regularly freshened inventory of eclectic yet grossly addictive board games and diversions. Here is where I found Carcassonne nearly a decade ago. Here's where you would find Quoridor, and the like. For the YoYo cognoscenti, here is where you come for the top-shelf yo yo stuff. Here is where you come for stuffies of bacteria, germs, etc... i.e., here is where you come to satisfy the child within, if not the child without you. A great friend of mine's son has played in the Lofty Pursuit band these past few years. Now that he's graduated FSU Law, he might have less time to devote to the motley musical crew, but I suspect he'll find a way in some upcoming parade. Yes, that's right, Lofty Pursuit's has a band. The Michelin Guide awards the highest ranking (3-stars) and it means "Une des meilleures tables, vaut le voyage" - translated, it means One of the best [tables], worthy of the trip (really, it intends to mean "detour"). That's what Lofty Pursuit is. I imagine that anyone who is an avid enthusiast of all things Soda Fountain includes this establishment on their bucket list. This is a great place for when your craving something sweet! They have all sorts of toys, games, ice cream, and candies. My friend and I ordered the banana split. It was a lot for us to share so I would recommend getting this to split between three or more people. The chocolate ice cream was dark chocolate too which I didn't know but I really liked. Need to edit this post with an update up at the top, after sending them a photo of what I received today, along with a note of my frustration, they claim it was a printing error and are relabelling the entire batch as I write this. They seemed sincere in what happened today was a human error, and the candy has tapioca syrup in it, and not corn syrup. Apparently I was the first person to actually read the label and notice the error. As a result the rating has gone from one star to four stars. After all, it wasn't exactly a perfect experience, but their effort in trying to rectify the situation was appreciated. ------ Would give it zero stars if I could. Love watching their YouTube videos. Contacted them on Facebook to find out if they knew of how to make candy without corn syrup. They told me I should try their ghost candies, "No food coloring either" they said, so I checked it out, they made a big deal about how it is made for people sensitive to what goes in, and emphasize it having "No High Fructose Corn Syrup" in it. So I bought two bags, longing to be able to finally eat candy again. Oh how I missed candy since discovering that it is all corn products that do really bad things to my body. Well, it arrived this morning, so excitedly I brought it in from the mailbox and ripped open the package like a child on Christmas morning. When I turned the bag over to look at the ingredients, as I always do now with everything I eat, the ingredients read Sugar, Corn Syrup... and I stopped cold. Maybe my eyes are not reading that right, I thought, and I read it again. After specifically emphasizing that I cannot consume Corn Syrup, not just HFCS, they directed to a product that uses Corn Syrup as the second ingredient. So now they sit on the table, unopened because I cannot eat them. I'm more than a little frustrated with them right now. read more

It's a little on the pricey side for ice cream, but you get a million different options to choose from and samples! I loved the vanilla bean (classic) and their Baja chocolate.
