I was served 4 thick cut chops that came exactly as ordered. Best lamb chops I've ever had (and I am very picky about my lamb chops)! My husband had the filet mignon, medium rare, with a side of sautéed mushrooms and it was delicious! Family owned since 1935, this restaurant boasts hand cut steaks aged for 40 days. Seating is tight, and the service is good. The price is right for what you get, figure about $50/person if your really going to enjoy yourself. Our total bill came to $200 for 3 for the full experience. Everything on the menu looked amazing. Our server recommended the ribeye (what they are allegedly famous for), and the lamb chops. Two of us had the ribeye, one with the extra "Greek"seasoning and one without. I had it "without" and it was certainly very good; more tender than most steaks I've had and seasoned pretty well. I would have preferred a bit more seasoning but I guess that's where the "Greek style" comes in. My dinning partner tells me His was excellent. We also had the jumbo shrimp and filet. The shrimp were enormous and the filet tender and juicy. She says the steak was the better of the two but enjoyed both. The meals came with choice of potato, and soup or salad. I had the crab bisque and it was perfection. The meal was served with a log of bread and a dish of raw vegetables with a cheese spread that reminded me of a thick pimento cheese served in a plastic soufflé cup. We weren't big fans of it. A few things were served on those little plastic cups which were just out of place for this type of restaurant. They should reconsider this in my opinion as it was a little bit of a distraction from an over all great meal. We ended our me with the chocolate tower cake and the peanut butter tower cake. Burger was a let down. They claim it's a blend of steak trimmings and 12oz. It was much smaller, lacked quality beef flavor and cooked to well done (asked for medium). We love the bar and had a delicious French Martini. After only one round our table was ready and Sergio took great care of us. I expect more from a $70 steak. I definitely don't believe my steak was USDA Prime. My wife had the filet which she said was good, so I am not going to leave 1 star. Always drove through Galena, but never stopped. I was told from a friend the best place to get a cut of meat in the Dubuque area was to drive to Galena and check out the Log Cabin. I read up on this place before and had my heart set on the prime rib. I do prefer mine a little more done (medium well) so it's juicy and not bloody. Thought it was pretty good I do question if it was actually prime grade or choice. Typically with a prime grade cut you don't get the couple of tough gristle spots like you do with choice grade cuts. This rule applies even more when slow roasting, but this somehow still had some. It was very minimal, but still stuck in my head about the overall experience. A throwback steakhouse with a Greek influence. The service was great for our table of 9 and 2 servers worked us. With your entree you get a choice of potatoes, and soup, salad or coleslaw. They also bring a plate of veggies to snack on. We started with the saganaki, flaming cheese. Most of us had the salad, but I had the delicious beef barley soup. I am in disbelief at the number of 4+ star ratings on this restaurant. We went last night, spent too much money for the quality and will never go back. Let's start with the positives: -The restaurant is handling the current COVID-19 restrictions well with outdoor only seating in the Main Street of Galena. -The Saganaki and onion rings are good appetizers. -Prime burger tasted good. The negatives: -The worst cocktails we have ever had. Ever. We love hand-crafted cocktails, but the old fashioneds we ordered tasted like they were made by an incompetent bartender. Extremely watery and not what we were expecting after reading other reviews. The mojitos? Not much better. -The catfish was bland. -Fries were terrible. Bad taste and too soft. -The vegetables and beer cheese are a terrible combination. -The lettuce in the salad served was incredibly bitter and made worse by the vinaigrette. Low quality salad for a high priced restaurant. -Our server didn't write orders down so when it came to billing at the end of the night, it was an epic disaster with mistakes needing to be corrected. I wish the server would have asked if we were splitting the check, who was with who and actually wrote our orders down. We get it, servers do this on the regular and probably have a good memory for the most part, but this was a fail. An absolute waste of $100. Never again and will actively tell others to avoid this place. There are FAR better places to eat and drink in Galena. read more
