The Meal

The Bartender saved the day. I stopped into this Logan's Roadhouse after a long drive from Mobile Alabama. I was hungry after I checked into my hotel and was looking for a place to eat right away. I found Logan's on Google maps and went over to eat. When I got there the restaurant was half-empty as it was just before the dinner rush. The Hist told me they had no restaurant seating. There were many table open, but I guess this is a popular place on Saturdays. I was told I could sit in the bar area, so off I went. A few minutes later a server came by and dropped off the menus. As I was going through the menu that same server came by and told me I couldn't sit there and had to sit at the bar. I was seated in a deuce by the wall, with no other customers in the bar area. I was a little put-off and asked why, and the server just told me to go back to the Host stand. The Host told me they only had Bar seating. I told him I was in the bar. I was starting to get annoyed and googling other restaurants nearby. I was there to eat, and the restaurant was nowhere near full. Finally, I was allowed to sit at the bar, and the Bartender, sensing something was up went into super great service mode. She walked me through the menu, and when I told her about my seating experience, she laughed and said she would take care of me. Have eaten at other Logan's Steakhouse locations around the US and like the food, that's the reason I was there, I just originally wanted to sit in the restaurant. The food itself was great, and I enjoyed the food. There are some issues with the team at this location, these issues can be remedied with strong management and training. I've seen worse and the service team is very young so there is room for improvement. This is clearly a training issue. Good Luck !! Food - 4 Stars Bartender - 5 Stars Host and original server - 2 Stars

This restaurant was next door to our hotel. The host that seated us was not pleasant. Our wait person was okay. I tried to order the old-fashioned, but they were out of bitters. I settled for a "Prickly Pear" margarita - it was so sweet, it tasted like syrup. The chopped steak was very dry and salty. I ordered a bowl of potato soup, I have not a clue what they brought me, definitely not a bowl of potato soup... I believe I will pass on visiting this location again. Please DO BETTER TO BE BETTER!!!

Wait time too long. The quality of the food wasn't bad but it wasn't good. It was just okay.

Since 1870, Weidmann's has welcomed everyone from railroad workers and weary travelers to soldiers and hometown heroes, earning its place in Mississippi's history. Founded by Swiss immigrant Felix Weidmann, the restaurant opened during Meridian's rise as one of the South's busiest railroad crossroads. During World War I, the restaurant temporarily relocated to Hattiesburg to help feed the thousands of soldiers training at nearby Camp Shelby. One of its quirkiest traditions is the complimentary peanut butter and crackers brought to every table. During World War II, butter rationing led the restaurant to serve peanut butter and crackers instead. Customers loved it so much that the tradition continues more than 80 years later. In 1935, when brothers Al and Fred Key took to the skies in their airplane, Ole Miss, they weren't just chasing a world record--they were trying to save Meridian's airport from closing during the Great Depression. They spent an unbelievable 653 hours and 34 minutes--more than 27 days--without landing. They stayed aloft by pioneering air-to-air refueling techniques. Their record stood until astronauts aboard Skylab surpassed the duration in space in 1973. One of the celebrations honoring their historic flight took place right here at Weidmann's, forever connecting the restaurant to one of aviation's greatest achievements. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and they were outstanding. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the grits were creamy and full of flavor, and every bite tasted fresh and homemade. Of course, you can't leave without trying their famous peanut butter and crackers--a tradition that's become part of the restaurant's history. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was warm and full of character, and you can tell they take pride in preserving this historic landmark. If you appreciate great Southern food and places with a story to tell, Weidmann's is absolutely worth the stop.

My parents and I stumbled across this place on our way home, and what a find it was. From the…read moremoment we stepped inside, we knew we were somewhere special. The exposed brick and thoughtful décor struck the perfect balance--classic and nostalgic with just the right touch of modern style. We were immediately welcomed by the sweetest hostess (I hate that I can't remember her name--she had glasses, a beautiful smile, and the cutest dress). She greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality that's hard to come by these days. She led us into the main dining room and seated us at a charming table dressed in crisp white linens. The space featured more exposed brick, tasteful artwork, and just the right amount of décor. The temperature was perfect, and the tables were spaced far enough apart to create an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter arrived promptly and was both friendly and knowledgeable. He clearly knew his craft and took the time to walk us through the specials, making sure we felt confident and excited about our choices. We ordered sweet tea, which was perfectly brewed--not overly sweet, just right. The complimentary peanut butter and crackers were something new to us, but after reading about the history behind it, we appreciated the thoughtful touch even more. Our food arrived quickly, and everything was fresh and cooked to order. We tried the spicy chicken sandwich, the cheeseburger, and a special featuring a panini with a cup of gumbo. Each entrée came with perfectly cooked homemade chips. Every bite was spot-on--truly a 10 out of 10. Even though we were full, we couldn't resist ordering dessert--when in Rome, right? We chose the peanut butter pie and the famous Black Bottom pie. After one bite of those generously sized slices, we all paused and just looked at each other. I don't exaggerate when I say we unanimously agreed they were the best pies we've ever had. What started as a plan to sample a few bites and take the rest to go ended with two completely empty plates. We consider ourselves food lovers, and I genuinely couldn't find a single flaw in the entire experience. We live nearly three hours away and are already planning a trip back. If you've made it this far in my amateur review, thank you--and I truly hope you get the chance to experience this wonderful, history-filled gem for yourself.
