I had my hair done last week here with Mary S., the Salon's newest stylist. To understand the joy I felt seeing my hair look good you have to understand my hair journey. I have big, curly, mixed girl hair - loose curl pattern but still very thick and long. I also grew up with a loving mother, who god bless her, was not prepared to deal with my hair. Meeting Mary in my 30s was a lesson that was long needed. Mary did a beautiful rose gold balayage across my black hair and left my hair not only looking fun and adorable but also soft and healthy. Mary also recommended a mixture of coconut oil and witch hazel to treat my lifelong dandruff, which has worked wonders. She is knowledgable about treatments for sensitive skin and those allergic to many ingredients. I appreciate her dedication to finding allergen-free products and even making some of her own. What a great salon! Such a nice space, with friendly stylists (the owner, Kim, is great) and awesome decor....what brings me to write this review, however, is their new stylist Mary Spagnola. If you haven't already been to her, you really need to book that appointment stat. Truth be told I've been going to Mary for all my hair beautifying needs for over a decade now...and I'd follow her to any salon in the Portland metro area! My hair is super curly and often challenging, and yet she's taken it from black to blond to red to black again, and every color in between...and not once did my hair fall out! Seriously, though, my hair is in great condition in spite of it all (including some questionable self dye job decisions) and I have her to thank! Until I had to move away, Tara was my stylist every time I needed a hair cut. I have very curly frizzy like hair that I used to hate so much. Every time I come out of a hair cut with Tara I feel like a million bucks and my hair looks and feels so great. After she dry cuts my curls and then shampoos my hair, she usually will blow dry them with a diffuser while making sure each curl is fully formed and frizz free. I've always come away feeling so amazing and loving my hair even more! The day usually ends with a new selfie for all my social media, lol! Tara is always so sweet and caring and we always have nice conversations too! I highly recommend her for all the curly heads out there. I'm very sad I can't see her anymore. I was visiting a friend in the Portland area and needed a cut for my curly hair. I came upon Kim during my research and she was kind enough to get me in. I've never been to someone who specializes in curly hair. My hair is really a mish-mash. Spirals underneath, wavy on top and some stick-straight pieces around my face. I thought a long time about this review because I don't relish leaving poor reviews for local businesses. The folks at Logik are very nice, however after trying them out based on the Yelp reviews, I likely won't be back. I am trying to grow my hair out, and after discussing this with the stylist and agreeing on a trim of about an inch, she cut over four inches off. I was also left with some weird layers that lay like a thick chunk over the bottom of my hair, giving it that triangle head look. I have very thick hair that takes an expert touch so it's hard for me to find a good stylist. The search continues. My guess is that most of Logik's good reviews are for one or two star stylists. If you book there, I'd recommend doing your research and asking for the person or people getting the accolades. read more

After leaving California (and my lovely stylist) I knew I'd need to find someone that could tame my mop of curly hair. I started searching around yelp and came across Logik. I was in desperate need for a bang trim, they were close to my work, and they could squeeze me in that afternoon. Appointment booked! After I called I started to poke around their website and that's when I came across Tara. She had several rave reviews on yelp, and she specialized in curly hair. I figured after this initial bang trim I would try to book a specific appointment with her, but to my surprise when I walked in the salon Tara was the one that was going to be cutting my bangs. I asked if she had time to just to a whole cut on me and I totally lucked up. She took all the gross bulk out of my hair (not only is my hair curly but it's super thick), cut my bangs exactly how I wanted them, and I walked out looking and feeling like a million bucks. And all this for only $35! Tara is also a cool chick all around. We chit chatted through the whole cut about Portland, life back in California, and even the pros and cons of owning a Vespa. She's not pushy with products, but definitely offers up good suggestions that fit your lifestyle. She also does free bang trims in between cuts, which all bang loving gals know is a big deal. This is my first cut with Kim. She addressed my concerns with going too short. I had plenty of damage after not getting it cut for over 2 years and I was scared it would be hacked off. Kim cut in phases, checked in with me and I got the length I wanted with the damage being removed. I feel lighter and I am happy that I got this done with someone I felt I could trust. I was pleasantly surprised! Of course, I scoured the internet trying to find a curly hair specialist before I booked an appointment. I scheduled with Tara, who was a joy to have working on my hair. Most stylists just wack off all your hair in a couple of goes, not Tara. She took her time and found each of my ringlets and cut them individually. I went from long hair to short for the first time in 7 years! This should show how hard it is to find a good curly hair stylist! My hair was short for probably 3 or 4 years before I gave up and grew it out, switching to bi-annual haircuts. On top of all these amazing things, the price was really affordable. I have paid the same thing at Bishops, only then I walked away thinking "what a waste of money." Needless to say, I'm coming back! read more

I am so happy with my experience at Logik, and I am now a permanent customer. I walked in without an appointment and was immediately set up with Tara, which was lucky for me because she was great! I didn't have much of a description for Tara as to what I wanted, which I know can be frustrating for a stylist, but she handled it with aplomb and gave me a cut and color that are incredibly flattering to my face and skin tone. The entire experience was very relaxed, yet efficient, and Tara is super nice (talkative but not overly so, offered me water and a magazine, etc). She asked a lot of questions about my normal hair care and gave me some samples of quality shampoo/conditioner to try at home! One of the selling points for me on Logik is that they have super reasonable prices - I got the entire cut/color oh my chin length hair for $80! At most other salons around Portland I've never found a cut/color for less than $100. Can't wait to come back! read more

Thank you, Groupon! Not only did I find a salon close to home, I found a great curly hair stylist! This place is really hard to discover on it's own as it's wedged in-between a bike shop and North. The awning works against the business by hiding it. I don't know how many times I've passed it without seeing it. It's a cozy place and has a nice energetic vibe and very Portlandy art on the wall. (This part of the review is just one of my personal gripes.) The salon has those awful full length mirrors, which seems to be all the rage in being a "hip" salon. I don't understand those mirrors unless, as a customer, you like seeing your fat rolls and staring at your crotch and/or you have floor-length hair. Anyway, small annoyance. (Ok, done.) More importantly, is that Tara is great with curly hair and gave me the cut I wanted. At first, I didn't want to lose length, but after some time and snips, I asked her if we could go shorter, which she obliged. When you say you don't want your hair shorter, she will NOT chop off more than you want. She took her time and did not rush. Tara is warm, friendly, and great to chat with. I look forward to seeing her again, which will be sooner than expected as my Curly Sexy Hair product was taken from at the airport security!! My boyfriend and I visit Roxanne here regularly. I live on the coast so it's about an hour & a half drive and I'll still do it for her amazing skill. Haven't let anyone else touch my hair for over 10 years. The salon itself is small but super cute, clean & everyone is friendly! I am on a work trip, and was desperate for a hair upgrade earlier today. On a lark I started looking up salons, and came across Logik. I decided to take a huge chance - in my mind at least - and stop in to see if they had space to help me. Kimberly very graciously fit me in. I had a great time chatting with her while she worked her magic, and was on my way before I knew what hit me. Like many people with short hair, I'm typically very picky about who styles it. Kim was very nice throughout the whole appointment. However, I provided multiple reference photos of a common asymmetrical mohawk haircut and provided additional minor feedback, but what I initially received was strangely long and blocky in the back, almost like a bowl cut from my perspective. Every time I tried to communicate that it wasn't right, the solution seemed to be to just make my hair shorter. Eventually I was so unhappy with my haircut that I pointed to a reference photo that showed all angles of a haircut that had most of the problem areas shaved off. Even that was not what I received, because they didn't do any additional shaving. As it stands, in my opinion, my hair is poorly blended, about 1.5 inches shorter than we agreed upon, and most importantly not the haircut I asked for. I lost so much trust that I actually payed and left before the haircut was completely over because of how displeased I was, which is something I have never done before; I hate how my hair looks. read more
