I love this place! Feels like a small community cafe filled with friendly neighbors! The decor is simple, comfortable and sweet with local artists' work on the walls and a homey feeling! Food is always delicious, fresh and more farm to table style. They have gluten free and vegan options, which is great if you have allergies. They even have yummy GF and Vegan options in the pastry case! It's a family run business, people who work there are always kind and inviting! I cross town 30 minutes to get there for a relaxing meeting spot with friends and it's always worth it! Highly recommend! You'll love it! read more

Lola's was an average experience for me today. Busy place on a Saturday morning- you wait in line, order and they come and bring your food to your table. We got a variety of drinks; almond hazelnut latte, rooibos tea and a golden milk drink. All were good. My friends enjoyed their food: poached eggs, soup and the deconstructed vegan burrito. I got the Lola's Breakfast Burrito which I wasn't a fan of. The flavors were a tad off and I don't think the sweet potato tots worked with everything else and my eggs were cooked more than I'd like. I think the biggest issue for me was the fact that my burrito came out 6-8 minutes after everyone else got their food and they forgot things in our order repeatedly (vegan sausage, potato salad, my burrito, dressing for the greens). Several tables that ordered 10 minutes after us had their food before me. The kind server was very apologetic, but it was a bummer to wait and not thoroughly enjoy my food. I've been a repeat customer at Lola's Café in Ladera Ranch and have enjoyed the food and atmosphere on previous visits. However, during a recent visit at 10:30 a.m., we were informed no more coffee would be brewed, despite spending over $100 with our group. As a fellow restaurant owner, I understand the importance of reducing waste. But for a café known for brunch and coffee, I found this surprising. The owner repeatedly explained their policy--on certain days, they stop brewing to avoid waste. Yet, for a brunch café, I believe some waste is part of the business. What surprised me further was being called difficult for requesting what I feel is essential in this setting. Unfortunately, that ended our visit on a disappointing note. I hope they reconsider this approach, because Lola's has potential to keep loyal customers coming back for the full experience. read more

Decided to stop by Lola's Cafe today because I was up in time for a little breakfast and a coffee. I walked in to a very cozy small cafe that was quite busy. I stood in line and was pleasantly surprised to see they had mimosas! I checked the menu and saw a vegan burrito that looked amazing. It was my turn and I ordered a mimosa which they unfortunately ran out of Prosecco. I decided to go for an IPA which all sounded amazing. I ordered the vegan burrito which was filled with a bunch of fresh warm veggies. The guy behind the counter was very sweet along with everyone else working there. I decided to go over to the mini cooler where the beers were. I decided to get the Asylum IPA which is made right in San Clemente. I looked for a place to sit but all the tables were taken. I sat a couple chairs away from a family and moved once a spot on the patio was available. The IPA was very refreshing and smooth considering it was an IPA. Will definitely have to check them out in San Clemente! The vegan breakfast burrito looked and tasted amazing! It tasted like it was made with a lot of TLC and it's a family owned business! Love me some Lola's! The food is always good and always consistent. The coffee is wonderful and they make all their coffee syrups in house. If you're ever around in the fall, you have to try the pumpkin soufflé French toast! OMG- it is to die for! They also have tasty vegan and gluten free options. The owners, Matt and his wife Ayva, do an incredible job in keeping the great quality and consistency of the food. It always tastes great and they are both so wonderful to chat with. Arrived at the arrival time for when the mobile order said it would be ready. The blonde girl helped out the person in front of me and when she came back to the pick up area she ignored me for about 5 minutes then finally came up and asked if I needed anything and I gave her the name on the order and she looked and said it will be a few more minutes. I go and sit down and let fifteen minutes pass and no one comes over to give me an update so I go back up to the window and the blonde girl ignores me again for a couple more minutes then finally ass the bake again so I tell her and she says or will still be a few more minutes and turns her back to me. I stayed standing there this time until a brown haired lady comes over and asks me if I need something and I told her the name again and she looks and says I'll get it stated for you, we just had a big group come through. At this point o had been there for 25 minutes. 35 minutes total and they give me the meal for my pregnant wife and give us a slice of cake to make up for it. I'd prefer them to tell me it's going to be more than a half hour wait to get my food and I could have just cancelled the order or to comp the meal some. Just being up front about what's going on goes a long ways instead of leaving people wondering and waiting, especially when the app says your food is ready. read more

Love this place. We went here out of convenience because we were at a Volleyball tournament walking distance. We got the Turkey Club Sandwich. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich (and the sweet pickles are super yummy), so much that she was thinking about and talking about the sandwich all week and asking when we can go again. The following Saturday we made a special trip over there just to get those sandwiches again. The co-owner is super nice as well as all the team members. The place is busy and everyone is working so hard and super friendly. The decor and vibe of the place is super fun too. A side note, the co-owner wears some fun vintage concert Tshirts. We got 2x of the tuscan chicken sandwiches, 1 of the egg salad toast, 1 of the grilled cheese with turkey bacon and tomato soup, 1 of the garden breakfast, and 1 of the louis' grilled cheese. Service was pretty quick, and the food was fresh and flavorful! The only con was that the louis' grilled cheese came out as a regular grilled cheese (ie: no brie, no fig jam, no apples, etc). It is SO nice to witness small businesses that thrive in our small community of Ladera. Lola's has a high quality product, and is closely managed with pride of ownership. The fact that this business has survived, and even thrived, throughout the downturn of the pandemic is testament to their high quality menu and service to the community. Matthew has always greeted us and made us feel welcome upon our arrival. He guides us through the menu and explains how the dishes may be different from what we may expect. Over the years I've thoroughly enjoyed the Avo Toast, Lola's Breakfast Burrito, and Brioche French Toast Souffle which is a unique dish that I've never experience anywhere else. All of them are excellent. In my family culture, "Lola" means grandmother - which is what my children call my (now passed) mother. So Lola's cafe always has a special place in my heart to remember the dishes my mother used to prepare for me. The consistency at Lola's is the inconsistency of the food preparation. Today topped it when I ordered two items and waited the usual 20 minutes (they do cook to order which is great), only to have my egg sandwich come with the bread and an egg. Asked for no tomato but they didn't put the cheese nor bacon. After 20 minutes I was pretty frustrated that is was so wrong and asked them to make it right. The gal was very nice who helped me but now they literally threw on two pieces of cold bacon, reheated the sandwich which caused the bun to fall apart, and no cheese. All this sounds petty, but after waiting 20 minutes plus an additional 5-8 to "fix" it, AND my two item breakfast meal costing $30.... I was pretty upset. Each time I've gone you don't know if it's going to be now meal, or a so-so meal. This topped the cake. Yes, I called them and the gal put me on hold after hearing my story, only for me to wait five minutes and finally hang up. We read the reviews and decided to meet our granddaughter here for brunch and were very happy with our choice. The counter service was great and food delicious. We all ordered waffles which were cooked perfectly. I asked for the homemade whipped cream and berries on the side and that's how it was served. The coffee was delicious as well. There was only two people ahead of me, but i waited 10 minutes to place my order. I ordered an Italian tuna sandwich on gluten free bread. The tuna was ok. Too expensive for only a half sandwich. Portions are ridiculously small for the price. It needed flavor as it was rather dry. It also needed seasoning. The gluten free bread was ok considering you don't find good GF bread everywhere. The pickles is one thing they do right. Yum!!!!!! They were sweet, crunchy and packed with flavor. I would love a jar of these to take home. The turmeric chai tea was also delicious, except they forgot it and I had to go ask for it 20 minutes into me ordering it. I also ordered it over ice and they brought it out hot. No biggie, it was still delicious. The GF berry cake slice was also good. Actually, the cake was really good. I would come back because I love the GF options. Sunday, November 30- This is a place with hit or miss service. Most weekends we deliberately avoid coming here even though they're a mile from our home. They focused on a big catering order, while making customers wait. The coffee came quick, but when the egg sandwich arrived, it was cold inside. Their vegan burrito is my favorite meal (with vegan sausage). But I haven't had anything I didn't like. It's a good vibe and the seating outside is so great with good weather.
