Came here for my birthday dinner and I'm so happy I did! Super cute and fun place on the water with lots of personality. The strawberry lemonades were in fun glasses, and the sampler appetizer was super yummy. For my entree I got the taco salad with bacon wrapped shrimp and it was AMAZING!!!! I dream about it. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the parking is very steep and difficult, but besides that I 100% recommend this place if you're looking to have a fun night with good food. read more

This was our 1st time here at Lola's. It took me a couple of days to think of what to write about them. As we arrived the restaurant it was a bit dark and not much indicating where to park. The hostess was very welcoming. The restaurant is a bit small but I like the decor. The summer time seems like it would be nice to hang out there in the patio/deck they have. The bar is small too, but cute too bad we couldn't see it in action, since no bar service because of covid. Our server greeted us and brought chips and salsa. He wasn't as talkative but did his job well. The menu has a variety of items. The chorizo with melted poblano jack cheese jumped out at us. We usually try all the chorizo and quesos appetizers in the restaurants we go to. We are also big fanatics of Mexican street traditional tacos. This menu did offer traditional tacos, but in their description they top the tacos with guac and Pico de Gallo. That's not what we are used too at all when it comes to "traditional" but it was different sonwe decided to give it a go. For an appetizer we ordered the chorizo with melted poblano cheese. My husband ordered a beer on draft and I stuck with a non alcoholic drink. When our appetizer came out the presentation and ingredients were not what we expected at all. It was literally a sliced chorizo with a sprinkle of melted shredded Mexican cheese with pico de gallo garnish on a hot plate. The chorizo was a mild one but it seemed like it was only heated up, not grilled, pan-fried, nor flash fried. It seemed like it was almost 1 chorizo and half that was used. Now poblano cheese with my experience is a white cheese mixture with bits of poblano peppers in it, the cheese seemed it was more of a garnish than part of the appetizer. The metal hot plate wasn't even hot. We then ordered our meals. We went for the traditional tacos. My husband had tacos al pastor and I chose the carnitas tacos. I did request my toppings to be on the side. The taco entrées do not come with any side dishes and you only get 3 tacos. So we ordered a side of rice and 1 side of refried beans. When our meals arrived my husband's meal was plated nicely. My husband removed the toppings because al pastor tacos are know for the spices and pineapple so he wanted to taste those flavors. He was very pleased with the taste, but recommends no guac or pico on top but instead a bit more pineapple. My meal even though I asked for the toppings on the side the carnitas was not what I expected. Usually carnitas tacos are made with pork shoulder so they meat is juicy, but my tacos were very dry. It looks like they used pork loin which tends to be on the drier side. I then added lime juice and added the guac on top of my tacos for the ease of eating. The guac I must say was very good. The rice was up to par but the refried beans were bland and they used black beans. We decided not to try dessert even though the churros the server suggested sounded good but because of the first 2 choices were not as expected we got skeptical. Overall the food was ok, but did not wow us. Would not be our 1st choice when choosing where to dine. read more

Revolting and so disappointing. We used to really enjoy it until last night. Aside from no one taking the membrane out of the calamari (so not swallowing "strings") the worst thing we've ever experienced. Ordered delivery and, other than crap calamari in the salad the worst was finding half of a rubber glove finger in middle of a burrito. How is this possibly an accident? No one noticed the finger off the glove?? Clearly no one is changing gloves either. So disgusted not sure what to say. Accidents happen but this??? No way. And in the middle of a pandemic when everyone, ESPECIALLY RESTAURANTS, is supposed to be being so careful. And they supposedly refunded us. We came on a Friday evening and we got sat pretty quickly and were offered a high chair for our 9 month old. They start you off with chips and salsa. The C&S were good however it seemed like they gave us the bottom of a tortilla bag (all of the crumbs!) We could barely get a whole one. Lol For mains we ordered The chicken flautas and they were well seasoned and a chicken burrito that came with a side of rice and beans. Everything tasted really good. Flavors were spot on but nothing to rave about. We also tried their frozen mango margaritas and they were good but their mango mojito tasted way better. read more

It's a chill place, if you have a boat you can pull-up order drinks and food. Now for the food, it's at very best below average. We started with the fried calamari which were blend and had an add taste. The calamari tested as if the frying oil had not been changes in a long time. This is going to be short and not so sweet--sadly. First, we arrive and kindly ask to sit outside. We were told that there were no tables for my partner and I so we say we will wait for a spot inside. A heterosexual couple comes and asks for a table outside and they take them right to the table. I am not saying this was discrimination but it surely seems that way. Second, we order a vegan burrito and salad and we are brought a burrito with chicken in it and sour cream. Needless to say we were disappointed but we kindly asked the waiter to take it back and he rolls his eyes and grunts. The experience was horrible to say the least. The Yankees are playing the cheating Astro's for the first time since the 2019 playoffs. At 7:35 I asked the manager to change the channel from Fox news to the game. I asked five more times after that and it's now 8:18 pm. Still Fox news. Missing the game. That's not a good experience for me. After never getting to see the Yankees game, while Fox news was on the television, we finished our dinner, paid the check and left. I then discovered that a car had parked in front of my car, blocking me from getting out of my parking space. Being unable to leave, I went back inside to report this to the manager. He was cold, dismissive and annoyed. He asked where I had parked, and I explained that I parked in the small lot at the top of the hill, because two employees stopped me from driving down to the valet parking and showed me that a space was opening up. In sum and substance, the manager said that I was lying, saying, "No! No! Employees did not tell you that." (I'm certain that they were employees, because I heard one explain to the other, "We don't turn customers away.") He showed no sign of concern for my situation, and made very clear that I was bothering him. His only effort was to ask the DJ to make an announcement. I assure you, except for the people dining outside, where it is much quieter, no one inside could hear the announcement over the loud restaurant. I then walked back up the hill to take a picture of the car and license plate, and I went table to table, showing the photo to everyone in the filled-to-capacity second floor, and about half of the jam-packed first floor, until I finally found the owner of the car. After 30 minutes, I was finally able to leave. To the owner of Lola's: your manager is good at running around moving tables and ordering staff around. I understand that's important to you. But there are plenty of other managers who actually care about the customers' experience. Your manager showed no sign of that to me. I frequent popular restaurants and bars that have managers and staff who make me feel like I'm the only customer, despite the enormous pressure they are under to serve a busy, packed establishment. They make everyone feel that way, and they do it with ease. They never seem frazzled or under pressure. You can easily find a better manager. On the other hand, the food is great and the wait staff is very attentive. The atmosphere is excellent. But none of that matters, when the manager can't be bothered to take 5 seconds and change the channel to a game that matters to me, and when he leaves me blocked in a parking space so I can't go home. read more

Service was friendly and slow. It took a while for a server to stop at our table after being seated. We were denied an outdoor seat and told it was a 45-minute wait, but the same size group immediately after us was given one (although we were told there were no reservations). The food was fine, but nothing amazing. I've eaten tastier stuff at some fast-ish food places. Our entrees came out immediately on top of the apps, way too soon to enjoy everything at a decent pace... and they charged for soda refills! Who does that anymore? The server did not even mention that there was a refill charge. Way to gouge a family for another $10 instead of working to earn repeated visits. So this isn't the first I have been to Lola's Text-Mex restaurant but may be the last time. I really don't understand the high reviews on the food but in my experience and I was with three other people, everyone complained that the food was bland, no taste, cold and not fresh. At one point, I was not sure what I was eating, I just mixed everything together hoping to get some taste. As far as the drink, they were ok, again nothing to rave about. The only thing that this place has is a waterfront which is really blocked by the boats that are docked in front of you and chaos of people walking around. I felt that I was at a fast food place in front of the water. If you just want to go for a few drinks on the water, maybe but the majority of the drinks are $15 and up which I guess is expected at a place on the water. I will definitely skip this place next time. read more

What a really disappointing return trip to Lolas tonight. If this was our first time here, trust me we'd never go back. I ordered the nachos as an appetizer. Can't go wrong in Mexican restaurant, right? The shock and disappointment to see a plate of chips covered with that garbage cheese whiz sauce from a jar. The unmitigated gaul, I just couldn't believe it. I've never seen a Mexican use less than real shredded cheddar, melted properly. The best of them use a combination of cheddar and jack. Never again will I order this crap meal from them. My wife ordered a pitcher of white sangria, only to be disappointed with a very noticeably dirty glass after she filled it. The young and inexperienced waitress, who was most kind, was apologetic and took the glass away. She returned with another one, empty. I had to explain, "Look, you took a full to the rim glass away and returned with an empty one. At $26 a pitcher, I would expect a full glass" She did the right thing and topped off the pitcher, but should have known. Common sense. Wanna guess the rest? The replacement glass was as filthy as the original. Tacos were disappointing - basically meat thrown onto an open corn tortilla, and very, very small. Even at $2 each, not a real bargain. Gonna give some space till our return trip, and certainly stay away from anything containing garbage cheese whiz. I would really respect the manager or owner for responding to this, and explaining why you feel it's acceptable for a Mexican restaurant to serve that. read more

I discovered Lola's recently as my sister moved to the area recently. The location is beautiful, the restaurant sits on the lake with wonderful indoor and outdoor views. The food was solid, I enjoyed their Salsa, it was different not your standard red...it had a tomato and green pepper presence and a slight bite. The chips were ok, definitely not fresh fried, I might even venture to say that they come out of a bag. The mini empanadas were stuffed with meat, And potato maybe, not 100 percent sure...the green salsa that came with it was very good. The Chorizo with cheese appetizer was good. I had the skirt steak which was above par, cooked nicely but the piece of meat was about as thin as possible. My daughter had carnitas in a burrito bowl, I thought the carnitas were fantastic, traditional slow cooked pork shoulder. Everyone else liked their dishes. My only issue was with the service which was very slow at times. I know this is a newer establishment trying to get their legs underneath them. I am sure they will improve. read more

I left a review over a year ago for Lola's, I revisited twice after that review. I enjoyed my chicken enchiladas. But, I look up the menu online bc they give tables. It was for 5 people and they gave us two tables. It didn't have any prices on it or pictures. It was very difficult to use. So, I decided to go onto my phone and looked at the menu instead. I got the chicken enchiladas. I looked at it and it looked like a decent size portion of rice, beans, and 3 enchiladas for $22. I will say that it looked nothing like the picture google had given me because of the size. I got a small side of rice, refried beans and the enchiladas. The picture I had seen had regular beans in it. Which, it wasn't a problem bc I prefer refried beans anyways. I just wish paper menus were an option with pictures, prices and what is in the food for people with food allergies. I also just think it would benefit more when a party of 10+ people comes to eat and have to share 2 tables. I just think that if older people come in it's harder for them to order or to even see the screen. The taste of the food has not changed. I love the food. Just would like to see improvements with the menu just so there is no missing information. read more

We were a party of seven. We arrive by boat and they helped us dock and took our name down for a table. They said the wait would be 45min for outside and 25min for inside table. As we walked to the restaurant, they said they had a table inside for us - no wait. Table next to window - good. Waitress was not bad; a little slow with the drinks and appetizers but everything was okay. The chips with salsa verde were good until I found a piece of cooked broccoli in the bottom of the chip basket. We asked for mild salsa and she brought out Frank's red hot sauce. Shrimp, bang bang shrimp, fish and beef tacos were small (3) with no side. 2 bites and they are gone. I would have liked the shrimp grilled but they only serve them fried. Overall okay. read more

The food was very good but service was very slow. Atmosphere was okay but loud. I made a reservation for 5 on a Sunday hoping to arrive early to get an outdoor table since it's first come first serve. Got there 20 minutes prior and they sat us inside and at the same time a table outside freed up. I asked the waitress and she said I needed a reservation. I told her I called ahead and you don't do outside reservations. I asked to speak to the hostess and the hostess said they already had a waiting list and could not accommodate us. Nobody sat there until we were done eating and ready to leave. I thought that she actually could have accommodated us. Celebrating two special birthdays and didn't think they were honest or very accommodating. For that reason I won't go back. Parking is terrible so make sure your emergency break works well since they park you on a steep hill. read more

First, if you are looking for a fun place with good drinks and beautiful scenery this is it. I'll start with the positive aspects, friendly fast service (our server alexa was super nice). Prices are very reasonable, the portions are huge (my burrito bowl probably had an entire box of rice in it). I was intrigued by the banana margarita, not much banana flavor but still yummy. They also serve complimentary chips and salsa...this is where I said oh no. While the chips thankfully were not loaded with salt, they were stale and the salsa was a very unappetizing orange brown color. The girls ordered chicken nachos, huge portion, but the chicken tasted like coffee (not a fan) and again not loving the chips. My steak burrito bowl was huge, very clean piece of steak but again something is off with their seasoning here. My friends loved the churro dessert it smelled awesome, and all the dishes had a nice presentation. If I was on the lake I would return for the environment and drinks alone. This place is really average at best. Not only is the service AWFUL, but the food is mediocre at best. I have a food allergy and the waitress was unfortunately confused by that, and was not able to tell me which items to avoid. We ordered strawberry margaritas which tasted like straight coconut, but pink. The guacamole was alright, but really average and could use salt. The tacos were standard, nothing to write home about. We ordered sides of rice, which were forgotten by our waitress and then undercooked/ crunchy when brought out. The view is nice. We won't be back due to the below average food. read more

What a wonderful add to Lake Hopatcong's Lake front dinning. I and some friends had the pleasure of eating lunch lakeside yesterday (07/09/2020) at this family owned business, and it was delicious! I had a mango margarita, Kelly a frozen strawberry margarita, and Cathy had a Mojito we enjoyed the fresh shrimp Avocado Ceviche as an appetizer. Followed by the Steak Enchiladas, Taco Salad, and Steak Burritos ( took home a refried bean and cheese burrito for my husband). Each item was perfect! The servings are large and flavorful. Now remember, this is a new establishment and the food is made fresh to order, so there may be a slight wait, with that in mind it is WORTH the wait. The restaurant is bright and clean. The owners and staff are welcoming and very pleasant. They have docks for boaters to dine in or take out, plenty of parking. read more

So my wife and I were looking forward to this place opening and eating here and we finally Got the chance today and we were not impressed. Took forever to get service. The waiter got my "non alcoholic" beverage wrong three times. The food took forever to come out and on top of it the portions were tiny. I lived in California and always had authentic Mexican food so I'm very familiar with their dishes and portions. The tacos were tiny and had very little taste to them.
