Island Breeze Smoothie and Pineapple Express Smoothie
    Caroline N.

Stopped by on a beautifully breezy, sunny Thursday afternoon with some gal pals! Lolo Kai offers an extensive menu of smoothies, protein smoothies, smoothie bowls, and wraps or salads. I opted for the 16 oz island smoothie called "island breeze" (passion fruit juice, strawberries, peaches, pineapples)! It was refreshing and not ridiculously sweet like other smoothies can be. My only complaint about this smoothie recipe is that the peaches make the taste too "light" for me, instead of packing a hearty island taste. Side note: Lolo Kai has catered for one of my student organizations, and I tried a wrap. I don't remember which one it was, but I thought it was really bad. I won't let this distant memory affect the amount of stars I'm giving in this review, but I would personally only come here for smoothies due to this experience.

Used to come here when they were over by UTMB so it's nice to see them in the old Kitchen Chick space and the business doing well. So parking yes you have to pay because it's downtown streets and it'll set you back a minimum of a dollar or so unless you park in front and run in and run out. The smoothie bowls we got were really delicious. The one with the peach base was the tastiest but the açaí one was also delicious. Toppings were fresh and plentiful and that granola was spot on. Everyone was super friendly and place was super cute including the little window spots where you could sit and eat, how unique! We needed a light lunch and this hit the spot!

The Big Island Bowl - 16oz

Solid açaí bowl from Lolo Kai. If you need something light, cold, refreshing, and a little sweet, an açaí bowl will satisfy your hunger. The big island has all the classic toppings but lots of other options to choose from. Counter service and everyone was friendly.

We stopped in here for a light lunch. My friend ordered a salad and I ordered a sunrise bowl and it was fresh, light, and delicious.

I am a big fan of Lolo Kai's acai bowls! My favorite bowl to order was the Big Island, which is moreso the classic bowl with a regular acai base and your typical fruit toppings (strawberries, bananas, and blueberries) with granola and coconut chips. What made this bowl so delicious is that the fruits in the bowl are drizzled with honey, making the flavor naturally sweet and it pairs perfectly with the tart acai smoothie base. The cashiers were very friendly and talkative with us, and were easy to make conversation with. They were helpful and patient with me with my questions about the menu since this was my first time trying Lolo Kai. The entire is small but very cute with an island aesthetic, but I enjoyed the outdoor seating to eat outside with the warm sun. This is definitely a snack staple for me in Galveston!

This place was soo amazing! Dropped my on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon and ordered the Pineapple Express. It was so light and refreshing and absolutely exactly what I needed as a little post lunch sweet treat! The service was soo amazing as well. We were greeted by very positive employees who were so kind and patient. Will definitely come back again!

Umm where do I start? Can we talk about the clean ingredients? Truly high quality fruit that's blended so smooth and creamy. The bowls are not icy or chunky, like some places. The toppings are beautiful and delicious and you can totally customize as you see fit. The interior decor is so fun and funky. Local artists did custom paint on the walls with trendy tables and chairs. Super cool place to eat clean and hangout. The açaí bowls are pricy, but you get what you pay for. $15 for one snack is steep so it's definitely a splurge for me and not a regular dining spot. I like the big island with chocolate chips. They used to have these gorgeous wooden bowls and now only have plastic to go, which is smart as unfortunately people have sticky fingers for those beautiful bowls. If that price point works for you, man you gotta swing by and enjoy!!! The smoothies are less expensive but do not lack flavor or quality. The service is always attentive and friendly. They have a cool vibe and clearly care about high quality products and care.

If you've read my reviews you probably know I'm a sucker for surf themed or Hawaiian themed places and let me tell you I found one with the true aloha spirit! Was looking for something healthy while in Galveston for business and ended up at Lolo Kai and couldn't be happier. They offer a wide variety of Acai bowls packed with fresh fruits and homemade granola, as well as smoothies and a few other beverage options. The energy bowl is my favorite as it's packed with some chocolate covered espresso beans on top. In tandem with the great bites, they have loads of space and complimentary wifi. Space includes a secluded area for studying that's a bit quieter and tucked away which was really nice for work purposes. Staff were polite and quick, be sure to plan ahead as there isn't too much parking aside from street parking around the area. I think my favorite part is the decor around the place with surfing posters and pictures and palm leaves, it created this tropical ambiance that I had been missing. Mahalo for a great time team!

This restaurant is conveniently located downtown in the arts district. The ladies running this place were friendly and helpful. I was looking for something healthy and this hit the spot. I had the Island Breeze smoothie and Southwest Salad. The smoothie was excellent! So good. The salad was kind of plain but decent and fresh. They have a few tables inside, and they also have limited outdoor seating. I appreciated that they had a good clean restroom.

My boyfriend got their sandwich that was similar to an Italian sub, which comes with the olive spread on it. He liked his sandwich, but felt the olive spread was overwhelming and scraped most of it off. He later said that had there been less of it on the sandwich it probably would've been better for him. My stomach was a little upset, so I was looking for something milder. So I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich off of the kids menu. Maybe it's just me, but a grilled cheese sandwich is American cheese on white bread, grilled. Here, apparently children eat cheddar and Swiss on a grilled roll. I asked to hold the Swiss, and went with straight cheddar as American was not an option. It was OK, but nothing to write home about in my opinion. Apparently this is a popular spot, as the tables were full both before we arrived and after we left, but unfortunately, we did not have an overwhelmingly positive experience.

I ordered the biscuits and gravy my other half ordered the berries and cream cinnamon French toast, and my little ordered the Mickey Mouse pancake with cinnamon. The staff was amazingly friendly. On the second day, the gentleman server did not know whether the Mickey Mouse pancake should have the cinnamon bun toppings on it (you know,...because kids might start bouncing off of the ceiling), or sprinkles and whipped cream. So when my wife suggested we make this our final stop before leaving town, I was just kind of along for the ride. It turns out, the ride was amazing. I was visiting NYC a few months earlier and went to a place that was wildly considered to have the best bagels in the city. They were perfectly fine but not really remarkable. But GBC served the kind of bagels we were still thinking about the next day. I think it was the softness that really separated them. Said softness was easier to detect from the snickerdoodle bagels we ordered with strawberry and honey butter cream cheese. Both were no doubt 5-stars. But for my "main course" was the Pelican Island, which was a hodgepodge of deliciousness all crammed betwixt two blueberry bagels. I really enjoyed it, but if I returned for a second visit, I would order something else only because there were like ten other things I wanted to try. By the way, I also enjoyed stealing a few bites of my wife's ham, egg and cheese bagel. Earlier I said "if I returned for a second visit", and I'd like to correct the record. My only regret is not ordering another breakfast bagel to take on the road. The shop offers a few indoor seats along with outdoor seating, which is a nice option if the weather is good. On the day we visited it was raining and gloomy and the patio was still full. The only downside to our visit was the rude male employee at the front counter.
