So when my wife suggested we make this our final stop before leaving town, I was just kind of along for the ride. It turns out, the ride was amazing. I was visiting NYC a few months earlier and went to a place that was wildly considered to have the best bagels in the city. They were perfectly fine but not really remarkable. But GBC served the kind of bagels we were still thinking about the next day. I think it was the softness that really separated them. Said softness was easier to detect from the snickerdoodle bagels we ordered with strawberry and honey butter cream cheese. Both were no doubt 5-stars. But for my "main course" was the Pelican Island, which was a hodgepodge of deliciousness all crammed betwixt two blueberry bagels. I really enjoyed it, but if I returned for a second visit, I would order something else only because there were like ten other things I wanted to try. By the way, I also enjoyed stealing a few bites of my wife's ham, egg and cheese bagel. Earlier I said "if I returned for a second visit", and I'd like to correct the record. We will 100% be returning for a second visit. We might even go as far as a visit here being an excuse for why we need to come back to Galveston a few months from now.

Galveston Bagel Company has a huge assortment of fresh bagels if you can think of it, they probably have it. We visited on a Monday morning and even though the line was long it moved quickly. The aroma of freshly baked bagels meet you as soon as you walk through the door and is so inviting. We ordered the Pesto in Paradise (one of their summer specialty bagels), the Chopped Brisket Panini, and a Blueberry Bagel with Cream Cheese. Every single item was amazing! They were filled with meat, eggs, fresh vegetables, and flavorful condiments. The bagels were hot, soft, and incredibly fresh, with every bite tasting better than the last. My only regret is not ordering another breakfast bagel to take on the road. The shop offers a few indoor seats along with outdoor seating, which is a nice option if the weather is good. On the day we visited it was raining and gloomy and the patio was still full. The only downside to our visit was the rude male employee at the front counter. Thankfully, the female cashier who helped us was sweet, welcoming, and friendly, which helped make the overall experience a great one. I would absolutely recommend Galveston Bagel Company again and again. It's definitely worth the stop if you're in Galveston! ---- They also have a coffee shop in the inside of the bagel shop you should give a try I give them five stars across the board. Edward Duffin handled our check-in and made everything easy. He has a very warm, friendly personality and immediately made us feel at home. Throughout the stay, he was always helpful, always had a kind word, and never seemed too busy to answer a question or just chat for a minute. That kind of thing really does make a difference. We ate at The Fancy both nights, and the restaurant definitely deserves the name. The food was outstanding. Paula was our server both evenings and she was fantastic. We weren't quite sure what we wanted, so we asked her for recommendations both nights. She knew the menu very well, and everything she suggested was right on point. She was attentive without hovering, which I always appreciate. Seyma, the restaurant manager, also made our stay extra special. It was my wife's birthday, and somehow she knew. I'm still not sure how, but she went out of her way to make the evening feel special for her. She also helped us out twice with our dinner plans. The first evening, we didn't have a reservation and she was still able to get us seated. The second night, we did have a reservation but needed to push the time back, and again she was able to accommodate us. Both times she handled it with a smile and never made us feel like we were causing a problem. We even had the chance to talk with the General Manager, Jorin, for a few minutes. That stood out to me because you really don't see that very often. A GM taking the time to actually talk with guests says a lot about the way a hotel is run. I spent about 15 years working in hotels myself, so I probably notice some things that other guests might not think much about. I know how hard it is to have good service across an entire property, and that was one of the things that impressed me most here. It wasn't just the front desk or the restaurant. From The Fancy to the rooftop bar, the lobby bar, and everyone we dealt with in between, the staff was professional, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable. I had seen a few comments about the beds being on the firmer side, but personally, I liked the mattress. I'd much rather have a supportive bed than one of those old hotel mattresses with a permanent dip in the middle where you feel like you're trying to sleep in a mud pit. What I liked most about Hotel Lucine is that it feels stylish without being stuffy or pretentious. It has a relaxed atmosphere, great food, and most importantly, a really good team of people. A big thank you to Edward Duffin, Paula, Seyma, Jorin, and everyone else who helped make our stay such a good one. We were very impressed, and we will absolutely be back. Five stars from us.

There were parts of the experience of staying here that were so absurdly bad that I'm tempted to…read moregive one star, but they are fixable so I will give three in the hopes that the owners go about resolving the issues. Positives first: 1. Great location, right across from the beach 2. Aesthetic lobby, gorgeous decor 3. Charming pool, well maintained 4. Helpful staff, very kind 5. Complimentary beach club chairs and umbrellas - really a dynamic differentiator! 6. AMAZING rooftop bar with ocean view and incredible live music - truly the savior of stars for this review.... Now onto the negatives: 1. The entire lobby smells very strongly of dog pee. To the point where I walked in and went "woof! is there a dog in here?". Sure enough, there is an adorable old man doggy (that perhaps belongs to the owner?) that resides in the lobby. Really a fun idea IF he is let out to urinate!! Unfortunately there was yellow dog pee stains under the stairs, and the scent was unmistakable. Immediately turned me off on first impression. 2. A number of the provided bath towels were threadbare and stained. Again, an easy to solve issue, so baffling that towels that are thin and fraying at the edges and streaked are still in the laundry rotation. 3. SMOKE ALARM BATTERY WENT OFF AT 4AM. Luckily front desk staff was extremely responsive and resolved the issue in ten minutes. I asked why the hotel didn't change batteries a month before expiration date like most hotels do to avoid the battery dying in the middle of a guests stay, and was informed it must not be something the new owners were aware of. 4. The A.C. units can not keep up with the Texas heat / coastal humidity. The room temp, per the unit, did not go below 80*F all weekend despite being set to 70. To be fair, it felt more like 76*F, but that's still fairly warm to sleep in my opinion! Asked staff about it, and was told "yeah, we always have AC issues, the new units can't keep up..." so something they're aware of. 5. Parking lot is not enforced. That means anyone can use the Lucine parking lot for beach access, and actual hotel guests are simply out of luck for parking. It may say "towing enforced" but excited beachgoers and front desk alike informed us they don't actually check it. It was a bit obnoxious circling forever to find parking when the hotel allegedly provides it. But not the end of the world! Again, the above items would warrant a one star review if the pool, rooftop bar, complimentary beach club chairs and umbrella, and kind staff weren't in consideration. I think these issues are FIXABLE!! And encourage owners to hop to it. But at present, the overall experience gives the vibe of a new owner with restaurant/bar experience who has taken on a vanity project with no idea how to actually run a hotel re: guest experience.

We did not know that they made all of their food to order. We waited around 30 minutes to get our food, but well worth it! Please note that there is a sign warning you that because they are a small business, that when they are busy, wait times to get food can't take a while. If you do not feel like waiting and are in a rush, this is not the place for you. Please come back when you have time to enjoy the atmosphere and the amazing food. I was telling one of the servers to please pass along my compliments to the chef and the owners. I was having a rather rough morning on our first visit. The best way I can describe the deliciousness of the food was that I went from being a little bit meh, to a strong to feeling like I was having a warm hug. I ordered the biscuits and gravy my other half ordered the berries and cream cinnamon French toast, and my little ordered the Mickey Mouse pancake with cinnamon. We came back another day and all ordered the same thing again, and it was just as amazing as the first time. The inside of the building is quite rustic. Even though you are waiting a bit for your food, there is so much to look at that time just passes by. Even in the bathroom will keep you occupied, and not just with the normal activities . The staff was amazingly friendly. On the second day, the gentleman server did not know whether the Mickey Mouse pancake should have the cinnamon bun toppings on it (you know,...because kids might start bouncing off of the ceiling), or sprinkles and whipped cream. We requested the latter and he came over and put on a tiny show for my little. The gentleman made a fun little show of putting whipped cream on Mickey and let my little decorate his own pancake. Definitely a 10/10 experience and we will be returning when we are around these parts again.
