I've stayed here a few times already and I've had good a good experience each time. Keep in mind my review is solely for clean, quiet, inexpensive place to sleep as it's Monterey majority of my time is spent enjoying the city, food, and the beach...So if you're looking for a plush luxurious room that you plan to stay in the whole time you're there then pay the $$$$ at the upscale hotel. But If you are looking for a good clean place to sleep this is the place. read more

Well, it's a motel. It's as basic and no-frills as you can get from this type of establishment but if cleanliness is priority, then this hotel isn't a bad place to stay the night. Though it's located on a street along with other motels, this is only one of a few that isn't part of a major national chain. And just like every motel street, it wouldn't be complete without the Denny's down the block. You can tell the place was recently "renovated" as the flowery-duvet which remained a motel staple for centuries was ditched in favor of white linens and some brown/red accents. Quality isn't very good though as it's already pilling and slightly scratchy. I think they ran out of money at that point because the furniture still remains the same old dingy, dark-stained, island-themed motel furniture of yesteryear. One of the drawers was visibly broken, and the others were borderline functional. There's also an out of place pleather office chair next to the nighstand which, at this point, was badly peeled and damaged. Room hating aside, I'd reiterate that this place was very clean - even the shower - and that the toilet came with a "sanitized" paper wrap around the seat when we first came in. I'd add though that the shower was very small even for me and I'm a short Asian kid. Take away? It's a motel. If you don't get bed bugs and it's clean, it's solid. read more

I would give zero stars if that were an option. First clue should have been the dirty office. We were in room 22 right next to the noisy ice machine. The furniture in the room looked like it was picked up off a street corner. The mini fridge was rusted at the bottom. I don't think the door mat has ever been vacuumed. The bed squeaked and we even had a cockroach. All this for the bargain price of $289.00!!!! I was able to get the price down to $249 before tax which was still a total rip off. This room was worth $99 at best. Not sure where all the 5 star ratings are coming from but I wouldn't believe any of them. Would have been better off at a motel 6 or sleeping in our car. We stayed in the 2 bedroom queen/queen suite. Its newly remodeled from top to bottom. Very nice and clean! Friendly staff.

I like this lodging a lot. Its hands down one of the best experiences you can get, and there is a reason why its my friends' and I's goto for an overnight stay. This time around my gf and I got the queen bed with a fireplace($104). Previously, we had gotten the king with a fireplace and jacuzzi($120), and it was a great experience. The sheets were well cleaned, and the bathroom was very spacious. Also, the fireplace was an experience that I didn't think I would need until I used it. Its moody and romantic afaq. I'd skip on the Jacuzzi since i thought it smelled rancid when we tried using. For a cost of a romantic getaway, this place definitely fits the budget without killing it. This place was like stepping back in time to the 70's or something! I don't think they've redecorated ever, but it has its charms. From the tile to the carpet, everything felt dated. The room was clean but felt like it could have used a little remodel. The bed was also too hard for my taste but I didn't wake up sore. Everything was clean but the towels smelled musty, it wouldn't hurt to wash them with vinegar or replace them so they didn't smell so weird. The sheets and the bed seemed clean but the blankets were thin and I was cold. The staff was friendly and the room was very affordable. It was annoying the desk closed at 11pm but they made sure that you knew that was the case before check in, at least it wasn't a surprise! I teetered between a three and a four star review, but I decided to round up because it was affordable and friendly. read more

3.5 stars to be exact. My wife and I had our 11 year anniversary and we wanted to get out of town for a bit. We have never really been crazy about going south, so it's always east or north. We decided to go up to Monterey cause it's gorgeous out there (I seriously wish I had a house out there, lol). We were on a budget so we looked around and found Lone Oak Lodge. I was a bit thrown off from the beginning because I was calling around for pricing and when I called them they said that they do not accept the discount with the Yelp check in. The gentleman was very stern about it too. So I went ahead and booked the room anyway and when I got there I had to ask and the woman checking us in was really confused and didn't know if they do. So she said she was going to get back to (which she didn't until I reminded her), but they finally said yes, they will honor it. Check in was pretty simple. We got our room and it was pretty decent. I wasn't crazy about it but for the price we paid, it seems just about right. The best way to describe it is if you had a house that was built in the 60's/70's, and it got "renovated" and by "renovated" I mean they painted the walls a glossy white color and put in a new TV. I mean it is what it is. It was clean, and it did its job of giving us a place to stay so it's all good. The staff was very nice. It was a bit weird when we got there cause you can tell the housekeeping director or supervisor was mad at some of the employees and it looked like she was treating them bad. You should do that behind closed doors lol. The bathroom was nice and clean. They had hot water lol, which is a big plus. The lodge also had a small sauna/spa area which was very surprising for them to have. I would have never thought a place like this would have a jacuzzi spa and sauna. It was nice to have the option to sit in a jacuzzi for a bit. Parking was also pretty easy. Overall, it's a good place to stay if you're on a budget. I would definitely recommend it. read more

We got the king bed room with fireplace and spa jacuzzi. The first thing I noticed when I walked in the room was the layout. It was very strange to have to walk through the bathroom to get the the jacuzzi in a separate room. I would have included the jacuzzi into the main room for a much more spacious feel. Also then you could watch tv while soaking. You could tell they tried to make it a premium experience but everything was outdated. The shower had a basic head, with a removable head and three beams of water as well but it was old and poorly executed. The water pressure wasn't high enough to properly utilize. The knob to swap between settings also kept falling off. Although the place was clean, it didn't seem clean since some of the bathroom tiles were stained and chipped. You get what you pay for here, this is still a 2 star hotel and they didn't let you forget even staying in their "premium" rooms. read more

Heads up Yelpers; NO A/C at this motel. Only ceiling fans and a desk fan in the closet. Cute little motel. Good rates. Decent service. Called at 9:30pm after my daughter and I had to leave a motel down the road due to cleanliness.. Like many of the surrounding motels, it's older and it reflects in the furniture & bathroom. Small fridge and microwave. Starbucks coffee in room :) No need to put the chair under the door at this one! Feels safe. If you are staying here and planning on going to the aquarium, buy your tickets here!! They give you a discount AND you get an extra day to visit the aquarium for free! That's basically 2 tickets for the price of one..Can't beat it! The room was very clean and I loved the bathroom. Super cozy and clean. There was a mini fridge, microwave and single-cup coffee maker. They give you 4 free Starbucks "k-cups" and 2 packs of hot cocoa. Perfect for those cold mornings. There's a few different room options so make sure you pick the one that's best for you. They have a family suite and I noticed some of the suites even have a garage! Check it out! Give this place a try and make sure you call after you book just to make sure they received your reservations. You can also ask for early check in and late check out if needed. If you're visiting Monterey or around the area & need a place to stay, this is your place!!! When you arrive to pick up your keys, at the front desk usually will be Kurt or Michelle, sometimes both of them. They're both very friendly & make you feel welcomed. Ask them for suggestions on places to eat in the area & they'll give you little coupons for the popular places that comes with a free appetizer. The rooms are kept clean & inside is spacious enough to walk around even if your bags or luggages are on the floor. If you like hot tubs, some of their rooms have one! We chose the Grand King Hot Tub which was perfect. The TV was against the wall but you could move it so that it faces you as your in the tub so you can enjoy watching some shows. There's plenty of parking & you can usually get a spot right in front of your room. If you get cold, there's a heater you could turns on & creates a fake fireplace to enjoy. This location is close to all the tourist area of Monterey too! It's a quick 10 min or less drive to the wharf, Cannery Row, downtown, & the entrance of the 17 mile drive. Good price, free parking, free wifi, friendly staff, & close to everything, what more could you ask?! read more

Stayed for 2 nights early May 2021. Called the night before (also day I reserved) about a crib and Monty DELIVERED. He was super nice on the phone AND in person. The room we got was the family suite and it was HUGE! So much space in the living room for kids to move around. Kitchen was big and fully equipped, too! Has all the utensils and dishes you need. There was even dish soap! Also was very clean - flooring, bedroom, living room, bathroom, and kitchen. Everything was immaculate. Would definitely stay here again! read more

Very unethical and dishonest business and may be the worst I have ever encountered. Earlier we had requested to change the date of our reservation and was told that we could. The day before I had called the Lodge and the motel confirmed our re-booked reservation. I showed up at check-in time that day with my husband and two young children. I was told by the person at the desk that our reservation showed that it had been canceled. This individual stated that he also remembered talking to me over the phone the previous day and seemed to also be confused. We had had a long, exhausting drive and only showed up to discover that the motel had canceled our reservation. We were further told that someone there spoke with me over the phone and made this request. This was an absolute LIE which should be obvious as we would not have been standing in front of them with my young family asking to check into our room. This person at the desk seemed to be discussing this with another individual, possibly a manager, and was told that he could re-book my reservation. However, we could still get our room at the cost of $450 for one night - three times the initial agreement for a 2-star motel! It was clear to us that they had canceled our booking without informing us so that they could try to extort an additional $300 dollars due to a high-profile event that was in town. We were left scrambling to find another accommodation at the last minute which we finally did outside of town. This is a completely abhorrent practice and hope that any person who is considering looking to book here instead look for the many honest and higher quality lodgings in the area. I would be very skeptical and concerned about any positive reviews that are stated on their page. read more

Carmel/Monterey is completely booked and so we booked this through air B&B and it says it has a swimming pool, jacuzzi and hotel etc for $441/night. We found at they jacked up the price bc there's a jazz festival this weekend. To be clear this place is a motel not a hotel, there is no swimming pool but they do have a jacuzzi area. This motel is located on the main Street next to another motel. Check in time is 3pm. We arrive 1.5 he early and they let us check in early as our room is available. So glad they did bc we got two little kids. The bed is nice and soft. The room is decent and clean but definitely feels like it's from the 70s or older. We used to like this motel, but they have changed owners or managers. When they received all their awards, they were under different managers. Even on trip adviser it says that the manager is Mary, but the manager is Monty Patel who was rude, unprofessional and must be related to the owners because he had no professional bone in his body. We had been there less than 24 hours when we realized that at least 5 items were missing in our room. I informed management about the incident. The on duty attendant was very apologetic at first until speaking to Monty who is the manager, at which time they stated that we misplaced the items and they denied all liability. So we filed a police report for the missing items (which were all from my wife's bag, mostly women's clothes and electronics) and checked out on Saturday night after only staying one night. They refused to give us any refund for any of the nights even the two nights that we did not stay there. The police officer stated that the window in the bathroom did not lock, and the room went up to the ally way where anyone could have popped of the screen and climbed to to take our items. And reattached the screen after closing the window. I still think it was someone on staff. The camera's face the front door and no where else. When I stated that I had called the police done a police report for the missing items, which totaled to around $500-$700 in stolen clothes/electronics. After we went to the other inn, we found more items that were stolen. On the day after checking and stating that we checked out, I received a call from Monty Patel the manager who is not even mentioned anywhere on any of these travel sites because they want to claim that they are still award winning even though it is different people, called me up and asked if I had checked out. I asked him if he knew anything about the issues of the police report to which he called me a liar and stated that he and his staff which he has had for "15 years, was honest" The day prior the staff attendant made it sound like the housekeeping was outsourced. Monty Patel is deceptive and has no customer service. Even if our items had not been stolen out of our room by the staff and the manager, Monty Patel, call the victim to taunt them about the staff not being responsible the next day which is highly unprofessional and vicious. We would not return to this hotel because the room smelled like urine very strongly and was filthy. There was sound music playing til 4am in the morning from either a neighboring resident in the complex or from a house in the area. Also there is a huge sign that says no pets of any kind. However, the room two doors down from us had a dog that barked over and over again and when I brought this up to management they knew about it. The managers here do not care about giving any customer service. They are only about collecting a paycheck. All the awards were under Mary who is long gone and with the new owners and new managers, this is one of the worst places on the Monterey Peninsula. Pros: On Monterey Peninsula Cons: 1. Dirty 2. Staff dishonest 3. Staff theft 4. New Managers not the same as the award winning motel 5. smells like dog pee / not clean sheets 6. says no pets but pets allowed because managers dont do anything 7. no customer service 8.no refund even when checking out early and because of their sticky fingered employees 9. no courtesy 10. deceptive reviews: even trip adviser says that Mary is the manager who hasn't been the manager for years. 11. room not secure. If you want to stay somewhere cheap, there are other nicer places that you can find that are reasonable to stay in. If you have no belongings you care about, don't mind things that smell like dog pee, don't care if your room is secure, don't care if the manager will help you in the middle of a crisis and do not care if the manager and his staff is deceptive this is the place for you. read more

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay here at the Lone Oak Lodge. Unfortunately, we intended on staying in the hot tub king suite, but the motel is still under construction. Luckily, the motel worked with us and we stayed at a regular king suite at an unbeatable price. The room itself was of decent size, comfy, and welcomed natural light. Our king size bed was very comfortable, new, and spacious. Both my boyfriend and I are very tall and we still had a lot of room. The refrigerator, coffee machine, and microwave worked and had no issues. The AC/heater was not loud and kept the room warm or cool as desired. The room was very quiet at night and we both felt very safe staying here. We would consider staying here again if needed! read more

Me and my husband wanted some time off and found this cozy looking good lodge. We went for a tour first because the check in is 3pm. After all the activity we've done we were so tired and wanted to rest and it is around 2:50 when we checked in. The lady in front was nice and gave me our room number and key with a smile :) Me assuming the room that I booked is all ready but when I got in my room , the room was opened and the room was all messy. They haven't cleaned my room yet and all they can say is wait and sorry. Got in my room quarter to 4pm.And when I get there all this mess was outside our door.]p What a bad experience. I booked this hotel off reviews I had read on it. I was not sure on what exactly to expect. I booked this hotel last minute and since I could not find any availability on any hotels close to the beach. I had to look further out. I have to admit I was nervous staying here because it was not a 4/5 starr hotel and location was a few miles from beach. When I called to book the staff was very friendly, helpful and patient with all my questions I was asking. I absolutely loved the stay here. The price on rooms are very reasonable. We booked the room with a king size bed. This room had a spa, full bathroom with a tub and shower, electric fire place, microwave, small fridge, flat screen with dvd. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate ready to go and I can't forget the free wifi. The room was very clean. I also watched and noticed the staff were taking out and bringing in new sheets, pillows, blankets ect....that made me feel good to know everything was getting switched out. Parking also is in front of your room. That was nice! I will be definitely booking to stay here again. Also it was nice to drive out and if we needed anything last minute Savemart, a gas station and lots of other stores were across the street. read more

My husband and I actually stayed here for our honeymoon, and we loved it! We got the king room with the fireplace and jacuzzi tub. We stayed here four days and three nights, and never had issues. They even have Starbucks coffee in the rooms! The beds were nice and memory foam. I'm a light sleeper, and never had issues with hearing anyone next door. We were also able to park right outside our room, which I know my husband liked. I cannot tell you how much I miss this room! I definitely want a fireplace and jacuzzi tub now! read more

The Lone Oak is a motel but it offers tons of comforts and amenities and is an easy 5 to 10 drive into town. Our room was good-sized and comfortable. The fridge was huge and the free wi-fi worked well. Our shower was very fickle and stingy with the hot water. I should have mentioned it while we were there but no big deal. When the no-frills hotels in town are charging $100 more per night than this place, look here for a (relative) bargain. During the busy season, all of the lodging in Monterey is ridiculously expensive so you have to look for value when you can. We were very happy with our stay. read more

Clean, quiet and comfortable. I'm a fan of parking directly in front of the rooms, dive rinse station and the hooks to hang our wetsuits. It's nothing fancy at all but worth it for the price. Note: We were informed at check in that the Wi-Fi was acting wonky and they are in the middle of a re-roofing project during our stay (2/23/19) so there were building materials occupying some parking spaces. I'm sure it will be completed soon. read more

Good, clean, inexpensive rooms away from the downtown area, but located just one exit on the freeway away. The in-room coffee is actually pretty good. There are refrigeraters and VCR/DVD players in all the rooms. (If you don't happen to travel with your favorite DVDs, there is a Blockbuster DVD rental place across the street.) The rooms are clean and quiet, which I appreciated very much. The indoor jacuzzi room also has a sauna and a couple of exercise machines. I noticed that there were at least 3 sporting goods stores located within a quarter mile away. If you're in town for a visit to the aquarium, ask about their "Aquarium Package" that includes 2 two-day tickets to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. read more

We came into town for work and found ourself at the lone oak lodge for about a month! It was exceptionally clean!! The staff is very friendly, Monty I believe he is the owner, lives on sight and always happy to help to answer questions. The location is also great! 5-10 mins from absolutely everything! If I could give 0 stars, I would. This place is HELL. I thought the dated room was the worst of it until I had an asthma attack at 1am and our keys wouldn't work. They say it's a magnet but if you can't keep your key in your wallet purse OR pocket without it malfunctioning you need to not cheap it out and get some keys for your guests that actually WORK. It gets worse when the night staff will cuss you out in your panic medical emergency state when you're trying to get access to your breathing medication they're restricting you from. They made it a large point that I was incorrect about the key malfunction and it was indeed my fault, and paid absolutely no mind to the fact that he told me my medical condition is "not his problem" and that it is unacceptable to wake him from his night shift slumber after them not answering the phones over and over, rather than calming down a paying guest who is clearly having a medical issue & one who travels to California once a month. This time specifically was for my late mother's birthday (today) and they're calling me at 9am trying to force me out and explain that it was my problem, not the key. Nothing about the medical emergency they ignored, and then a quick, "need room service?" acting like he didn't just cuss me out 12 hours before. And yes, "f*k you", "you're a b**ch", the whole nine... I don't think they realize an asthma attack may be slightly more important than sleeping on their shift. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!!! I've never stayed in Monterey I wanted to give it a new try from Santa Cruz and boy will this place completely RUIN your idea, experience, etc... again... STAY AWAY! I need to video document the room everyday now just to make sure they don't do anything shady. UPDATE: the actual owner of this establishment has now decided they're going to "refund" for the days we haven't stayed & will be forcing us out. When asked why he said something along the lines of he "knows we will try to get a refund when we're scheduled to check out" well of course you want to free up a queen room on the now weekend when the prices everywhere are jacked up. Again... this place is DANGEROUSLY shady and not to mention dated and worn, please please PLEASE reconsider your travel plans especially if it is your first Monterey stay like us. read more

This place is a scam. I'd give it negative stars if I could. I came into town for a friend's wedding, and I really only needed a place to shower, get ready, and sleep. I used Chase Travel Rewards points because the reviews for the place seemed somewhat decent and the rates for the weekend at "average" chain hotels were outrageous. I ended up arriving above 30 minutes later than the 3 PM regular check-in time (Highway 17 traffic was hell that day). When I tried to check-in, the front desk told me that my room had been upgraded. Sweet! Then they told me the room was being cleaned, so it would take about 20 minutes. I told them I didn't have any interest in a free room upgrade (it was only an electric fireplace). Turns out they didn't have any available rooms other than the one that was being cleaned, so the only reason they "upgraded" my room was because they had no choice. I told the front desk I really needed to get ready for my friend's wedding and the receptionist told me there wasn't anything she could do and I just had to wait 20 minutes. The receptionist told me to park in front of my room and wait until the room is cleaned. 40 minutes later I was finally allowed into my room! By this time, I only had about 45 minutes before I needed to head out for the wedding. I turn on the shower water and it's ice cold. Thinking maybe I'm an idiot and just don't know how to get hot water, I call the front desk. A different person answers the phone and tells me they JUST started replacing the water heater so it would take another hour for me to get hot water. Great. First, they wouldn't let me check-in on time. Second, I can't even take a hot shower. At this point I'm fed up and take a super fast shower because I can't be late for my homie's wedding. I go to turn on the blowdryer and, unsurprisingly, it doesn't work. I didn't have time to spare, so I quickly got ready and headed to the wedding. The next day, I contacted Chase Rewards about my experience because I wanted some sort of compensation for my horrendous experience. The first time Chase called the hotel, they said the hotel said they upgraded my room, so I had a better stay than I paid for and the hotel fulfilled its requirements. I can't believe the hotel had the audacity to say that when I couldn't even check in and shower when I wanted. I contacted Chase again, and we tried contacting the hotel together. After our initial call got "disconnected", the hotel ghosted the rest of Chase's calls and wouldn't even pick up. I have no idea how this place is in business considering how unethical they are. I'm never staying here again. Please stay away. read more
