Wes's has been my grandpa's favorite burger spot for over 20 years, and for good reason. The service and atmosphere are exactly what you want to see out of a burger spot that knows they have top 3 burgers, and has nothing to hide. The onion rings are a must grab and have all of the attributes from crisp batter to an easy pull apart when you bite in. If you haven't been before, now is your sign to run to Wes's.

The Goodnight Burger is simply a 3 patty burger = 1# of beef. The pickles (& I ordered extra) are very slim & the lettuce isn't plentiful. The meat is the star here, nice to have hearty & fresh ground pressed patties without worrying about thin frozen discs. Buns are decent to hold it all. Wes Teeters, the owner that created the name sake restaurant, has retired & sold it to new owners around Christmas 2025. Tater tots were perfect. Waitresses are very nice & helpful & they fixed my bacon situation but I had to ask. If you try Wes's Sauce, it's like a spicy taco or steak sauce, so go lightly at first. Their healthy option is a populated iceburg lettuce salad bar. I was just too full to take them up on the appreciated invitation for pie dessert. Discounted price for cash payment. They do Temple right with their offerings but I wouldn't say it's a decadent place. It's a hometown cafe catering to the locals & that's all right, it's a decent place. Ample seating room with some old style booths. but the plastic chairs feel cheap. Another long-time Temple gem, Old Jody's, is right across the street & still competitive for business. So you have the choice of 2 similar places within 25 yards of each other. Oh, & Grape Kool-aid for the win!

Milller's Smokehouse serves up some killer smash burgers!…read more My family enjoys hunting for great Texas BBQ. We have completed the 2017 and 2021 TX Monthly Top 50 BBQ list. We started the 2025 list and we are more than half-way through the list as of June 2026. Heading to the spots in West Texas takes some logistical planning, patience, and lots of gas for the drive from the Texas Gulf Coast. On our recent BBQ quest to West Texas,we drove home via Fort Worth from Amarillo with our eyes set on hitting one of the most consistent BBQ joints in Central Texas, Miller's Smokehouse in Belton, TX. This was our fourth time to visit Miller's. Unfortunately, Miller's Smokehouse had a surprise overnight fire late February 2026. That hasn't stopped them from feeding the community great food from a mobile trailer. They had an abbreviated menu of the BBQ staples like brisket, chicken, pulled pork, pork steaks, and St. Louis Style Ribs, and assorted sandwiches and sides. Generally, I'm a Texas Trinity traditionalist. But we he had our fill of brisket, ribs, and sausage on our West Texas journey. Instead, we jumped at the Smash Burgers! First time for us and they made a favorable impression. My wife had the Single Smash. My son and I had the Double Smash. Of course we had to try the tallow Fries. Wow! Homemade buns, oversized patties, cheese, with a smattering of pickles and burger sauce. We destroyed those burgers. Compliments to the kitchen staff cooking up some great food. The tallow Fries, seasoned with just the right amount of salt were a perfect crisp while being soft in the center. Don't cheat yourself - try the Fries. We arrived around noon and there was a very short line at that time. Parking is easy with ample parallel parking and free lots close by. The staff took good care of us. It was a bit warm but they had shaded picnic table seating with plenty of fly fans at the table to keep the critters from buzzing to nibble at your food. Before we left, we inquired about nearby restrooms to wash-up before we got back on the road. We were directed across the street to Muscovy Coffee Roasters across the street. It turns out that Muscovy is Miller's upscale sister coffee house that opened days before the February fire. I could not help but notice the spacious seating area that was packed. Nor the rich roasted coffee wafting through the air. They also serve an interesting menu of breakfast items and homemade Kolaches. Got to go back for coffee and Kolaches next time. By the way, the restrooms were Buc-ee's clean+. This is the fourth time we visited Miller's Smokehouse. Hat's off to the pitmasters and staff at Miller's Smokehouse for their perseverance. We'll be back after they open the revitalized restaurant. Hoping to meet Dusty the next time.
