Wes's has been my grandpa's favorite burger spot for over 20 years, and for good reason. Definitely a good, greasy burger (see pic). However the bacon was underdone & apparently comes that way. You have to tell them you want it crispy. The Goodnight Burger is simply a 3 patty burger = 1# of beef. The pickles (& I ordered extra) are very slim & the lettuce isn't plentiful. The meat is the star here, nice to have hearty & fresh ground pressed patties without worrying about thin frozen discs. Buns are decent to hold it all. Wes Teeters, the owner that created the name sake restaurant, has retired & sold it to new owners around Christmas 2025. Tater tots were perfect. Waitresses are very nice & helpful & they fixed my bacon situation but I had to ask. If you try Wes's Sauce, it's like a spicy taco or steak sauce, so go lightly at first. Their healthy option is a populated iceburg lettuce salad bar. I was just too full to take them up on the appreciated invitation for pie dessert. Discounted price for cash payment. They do Temple right with their offerings but I wouldn't say it's a decadent place. It's a hometown cafe catering to the locals & that's all right, it's a decent place. Ample seating room with some old style booths. but the plastic chairs feel cheap. Another long-time Temple gem, Old Jody's, is right across the street & still competitive for business. Local favorite burger joint! Staff and service were top tier! All the locals seem to love this place. The burgers are easily one of the best in temple. Reasonably priced with great seasoning. Atmosphere is old town diner vibes. I personally liked the fries over the onion rings, but try the Wes's sauce, it went great on everything. First time here 9.17.25 It's a cute little diner, definitely a small town staple; it seems like everyone knew each other. The food is amazing, the burgers are huge! The staff is very friendly, and the restaurant itself looks decently decorated. The menu is very limited, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I would just like a little more variety. I was not pleased with the way our waitress asked us if we wanted fries, tots, or OR, because it doesn't come as a side with a burger. I had even stated in front of her "I didn't know it came with fries as an option", then we get our receipt and see FF and OR charged, each $3-$4 extra. (And they are bland as all heck). We did expect to pay extra, however the waitress phrased it to us as if the sides were included. We ordered coffee as well and it was bitter. Also shared a slice of chocolate pie; very yummy! Nice crunchy batter and good flavor. Fried Pickles with Ranch. Crunchy and Good. Double Meat Hamburger with Fries. The Burger was juicy and lots of flavor. The fries were good and crunchy. Chicken Fried Steak with Gravy - with Mashed Potatoes and Fries. The Steak was huge with a crunchy batter. Fries were crispy and hot. The mashed potatoes were OK but nothing special. Fried Catfish Filet - Large with Fries and Onion Rings. The catfish was cooked perfectly with a crunchy texture. The Onion Rings were really good and crunchy. Serious greasy spoon. The French fries were tasteless and commercial BUT my husband, an onion ring aficionado, gives Loud in the front but a large party room in the back made conversation audible. Service was FAST, efficient and accurately billed. I took a look at the salad bar and it was as industrial as the French fries. I had a tasteless cheeseburger. My husband and I were visiting Temple and saw the positive reviews on this place...so we decided to give it try. Took the order to go...ordered the appetizer combo (two different apps) fried mushrooms and fried pickles, both very crispy and tasty. Also ordered a double cheeseburger and fries...the burger patties were excellent. Meat was well seasoned and melted in your mouth. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area. Great place! The food is very reasonably priced and delicious. They prepare everything fresh when you order so it gets to the table hot and tasty. The "small" catfish plate comes with two huge fillets and two sides. The fish and onion rings were lightly salted, not overly salty as many restaurants do. The hamburger was a good old fashioned burger with the buns toasted on the grill. The place is newly remodeled and so clean and inviting. Our server, Corita, was fun and made a fresh pot of decaf for my mom. Great touch! All the staff was happy and cutting up with each other while we were there. They obviously enjoy working together at Wes's. We will definitely return! read more

Came in right before closing and was greeted immediately by the very friendly staff. Though only 15 minutes remained, I was not hurried or made to feel a burden but instead encouraged to order anything and take my time. While the menu is limited, that is a plus in my book as they focus on doing a little bit exceptionally well. I had been on the hunt for some great o-rings and the menu offered fresh from scratch hand battered and the waitress alerted me to beer-battered rings that are not on menu but just as popular and delicious. I also indulged in some jalapeño chips. Needless to say the staff, menu, and food all made for an enjoyable afternoon stop. The decor is simple but filled with encouraging statements and Wes the owner is living it out- the staff had a 3 waitresses but the rest I saw were mentally challenged individuals who were having a ball with their assignments and interactions with everyone else. If your day needs a shot of inspiration and your mouth craves traditional diner food, please treat yourself to a stop at Wes's'. check hours! looks like a breakfast & lunch spot. looking for food while traveling through temple... yelp led us here! homey spot that seemed like lunch at grama's house. menu is simple with focus on burgers which was good cause that's what we wanted! hubbie & i ordered cheeseburgers ($7) with a large side of orings ($6) to split. we also ordered fried cheese curds ($7) for an app. they do offer an app duo for $9. cheese curds arrived piping hot & smelling heavenly! GARLICKY! and they were as good as they smelled. we asked for a dip and were brought ranch (no marinara avail). tender chewy curds & crispy breading which tasted like it had been rolled in garlic butter. pan heated bun was soft but held up well to the tasty burger. meat was flavorful & how i like it, thin with a nice "crust". o-rings were great as well and tasted like homemade. onions cooked enough to bite through - not pull out through breading. waitstaff was extremely efficient & friendly. this spot looks like a community anchor with flyers and team sports items. employees were all wearing "have you hugged a child with special needs" t-shirts. there were items sprinkled around that showed God was an important part of their lives and business. something I APPLAUD and SUPPORT. no hiding their light under bushels here! what a great spot for Temple residents! fantastic food & wonderful people! read more

What hit me bad from the start was the phrase "God Wins" scrawled in colored chalk around the entrance to the establishment. I don't understand why someone has to be so preachy to the public,. I believe in God and yes I pray, but I don't need that kind of message greeting me at the door. This is a burger place, not a church. Now to the food. I ordered the small chopped steak with onions, gravy and coleslaw and tater tots, which I was upcharged for (!) My friend had a burger and fries. The food came out almost instantly, which was a bit alarming. My food was ok, but the coleslaw recipe has got to change. It tastes metallic and not house-made. The meat was ok, kind of tasteless. The same for my friend's burger. All in all it was not a very good lunch. Our server was fantastic, attentive and a bit over the top. We usually eat at Jody's across the street, but I decided to give Wess Burger another try. I hope they can do better on the food read more

Wes's Burger Shack has been around for a long time. I believe it started out in Heidenheimer Tx as a small mom and pop restaurant which grew and grew. It moved from there to Temple to have more space and with some problems along the way it is now located across the street from the Old Jody's restaurant another fine restaurant. The hamburgers and the chicken fried steak will leave you very satisfied.. The service is spot on never been disappointed. Get there early for lunch so that you can find a place to park. Salad bar was well-stocked with surprises: spinach, cucumbers, crumbled hard-boiled eggs, as well as the usual iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes & grated cheddar. Catfish was thick & cooked perfectly in a cornmeal batter. My friend had onion rings which we were told were hand-sliced. Coconut & chocolate pies were reportedly handmade.
