I can't say enough good things about Lone Star Service. They truly came through for me and my family during a stressful situation. One of the bolts on my brake caliper backed out right after exiting the freeway, causing the caliper to rub against the inside of the rim. At the time, I wasn't sure what the issue was just that something was seriously wrong. I safely pulled over, called AAA, and then had to quickly decide where to have the vehicle towed. After doing some research and seeing how highly rated Lone Star Service was, I gave them a call and explained the situation. They immediately worked me into their schedule and took the vehicle right away, which was a huge relief. Not only did they diagnose and fix the problem quickly, but they also got me back on the road in an impressively expedient manner. Lone Star was a favorite for my family since the 60's. I lost touch with them when I left home after graduating and just now got reacquainted. When i went in for my scheduled apppintment at the chrysler dealership, they informed me they wete so backed up they could not even look at my car for 2 or 3 business days. I showed up unannounced yesterday 11/22/20, with my grandson and his 06 BMW that was having issues. Even though I have known Jay since we were kids, lost touch for over 50 years, I still got the feeling we wouldn't have been treated any other way. Jay was very honest with us and said he knew nothing about BMWs, but he still was very kind and took the time to scan the codes on my grandson's car. Then gave us some ideas of where to start to try to fix the problem ourselves. My grandson is 17, lost his job (thanks Covid), and doesn't have the money to put his car in the shop so he can look for work. In case you're wondering, his mom gave him the car, whole 'nother story. Anyway, we will now have a friend help us change out some parts and hopefully, he will be on his way again. Long Version: So I moved to the Sacramento area a while ago and when my car wouldn't start, it was time to cross off an important item on my Post-Move To Do List: find a good mechanic. I went my usual route: go on yelp, find the top 3 to 5 best-rated local auto repair shops whose reviews I liked, call to explain my problem and ask for quotes. Then I choose the one I think is the best for the long haul, get my car fixed, and evaluate the experience. Afterwards, I decide whether my quest is over or if I have to keep looking for someone I feel confident I can trust with bigger, more expensive issues in the future. Something very important to me: a mechanic who listens. All the places that make my initial list clearly know what they're doing, but calling for quotes gives me a feel for their process. Reasonable prices are obviously important, but for the long term certain other factors are critical: Can I trust them to be honest with me? Do I feel comfortable being completely honest with them or am I getting that uneasy twitch between my shoulder blades? So how'd the phone consult go? Wonderful, easily the best one out of all the calls I made. From start to finish, Jay was patient, thoughtful, and kind. He listened actively and completely to my issue and what I'd already done to eliminate possible causes, went through his thought process with me as to what might be wrong and why, and was honest and fair about how much it could cost, depending on what the problem turned out to be. So I went to the shop, assuming (to be on the safe side) that I might have to leave the car there and take a Lyft home and come back later, but nope! I was really impressed by his honesty, particularly when we discussed a special service my car needs. Jay told me he wasn't sure he could do it, but would do the research and get back to me. This is the second time we have used Jay's service at Lone Star. Both times have been with little to no notice, and both times vehicles were repaired within 12-24 hours. First, Jay redid a couple cylinders in my daughter's 2006 Mazda6 - had it running great by the next day. This time, my Toyota Solara alternator flat out died on me while I was driving it...on a Sunday. I had the car towed to Jay's shop, left him a voicemail and my keys in the drop box. On Monday by noon my car had a new alternator, battery, and an engine mount strut that had gone awry. Jay is extremely fair on his pricing as well. I really cannot say enough about that! My son was having shaky steering problems with his car, I made an online appointment and arrived just after noon. Jay was waiting and after my son described the problem, Jay said he would look into it and get it up on the lift. He called about an hour later and told me that the left front tire had a flat spot in it and that we would have to take it to a tire shop. When we got there to pick up the car, he had it up on the lift and showed us the flat spot. He also noticed a clip was sticking out on the right wheel and he pressed it back into place.
