The small town of Concrete doesn't have many businesses left but I am glad they still have the Lonestar Restaurant. I needed a big breakfast for the long day ahead and this place delivers. I had the Chuck Wagon omelet which came smothered in delicious Country Gravy, shredded hash browns and chunks of chicken fried steak, green onions and cheese all wrapped in egg. It comes with a choice of toast. This thing was super big and filling! I loved it. The flavor of the gravy was very good and it was a nice combination of items in this order. I see they have several other uniquely named breakfast items and even their lunch and dinner choices looked yummy. The service was friendly and prompt and everyone here seemed to be in a good mood. Whenever you're visiting historic concrete Washington you have to take note of the Lonestar restaurant you walk in and it's immediately greeting you with all sorts of wonderful artwork and historical pieces from the town's history. Most enjoyable thing though is the delicious breakfast with the healthy size portions that can come your way for as little as $7.99 I had to enjoy the Gene Autry with scrambled eggs, link sausage, and 2 slices of healthy wheat toast. Love the service in the coffee but the one thing that I wanted to try but can't because of my weight loss goal... The delicious pies the chocolate cream pie is my new nemesis LOL!! read more

Came back here a second time and they got my order correct! Actually got the Rooster Cogburn burger that has a fried egg. The fries here are excellent. Crispy on outside, soft in the middle, and oh so tasty! And, enough to fill you up! The burger itself was purrfect. Little more mayo than wanted but even then it was really amazing! Hats off the the cook! Ambiance and waitress were amazing, this is on my come back to first list, completely happy! It was my destination for the day. I walked in through the restaurant and headed to the bar because I wanted to watch Monday night football. It was weird, but they didn't have the football game on in the bar. Then I looked up at the ceiling and saw the giant "Let's Go Brandon" flag. Nope! Hard no! I left, and I will never be back. Found this gem by accident while looking for the haunted bar in Concrete. It's a nice established restaurant with a full bar room off to the side. That part was closed at lunch time but we didn't care. We were looking for some grub and that's what we got. I had a chili burger open faced with french fries. It was hearty and satisfying. Mrs Billy D had a patty melt with onion rings. She had no complaints. All the burger patties were 1/3 lb and good. The service was efficient and prompt. We shall return. read more

The staff is nice a friendly. We stopped here for a late breakfast after an early hiking trip in the cascades. We were both famished. They have funny names for breakfast, like the Belly warmer or the Belly Buster. Come hungry, they serve a lot of food. I ordered an omelette, which comes with a side of breakfast potatoes or hash browns and toast, biscuit or cornbread. I asked if I could have a pancake instead, sure they said. When the food was served, my gosh, it was a lot! I didn't think it said on the menu, but to me, that looked like a 4 egg omelette! The waitress/owner's wife was rude and would not give me info about price...I suspect she takes advantage of elderly customers. I asked her for a menu with price...never got one and my $20.00 was whisked away like a magic trick!...no change is ever given even when I only have coffee! I am in my 70's so she thinks I am an easy target! I guess I am! But I have friends there and there aren't many options in this tiny town...guess I will have to drive further and convince friends to do the same...be warned if you are older than 50 to never get your change back...coffee only will cost the whole $20 if you put it out there for her to get her mitts on!!! Not sure what's happening here but the last two visits they are VERY short staffed. I came for b'fast and the tables weren't bussed, many customers waiting to order food and only ONE poor overwhelmed waitress. When the owner finally arrived at 9:00 she had no idea where to start but she didn't start with those waiting the longest time. I paid for my coffee and walked out after spending nearly 30 minutes waiting. I'm patient but not THAT patient. I'm heading to Perks, down the road. They are cheaper anyway and maybe I won't have to wait a half hour to get my order in. It'll be a while before I try the Lonestar again. Maybe they'll be able to solve the staffing problem. read more

Nice atmosphere but food was much less than par. The breakfast potato's my wife got with her omelette were so overcooked that they were (and I'm not exaggerating) barely edible. I asked for mushrooms on my burger dip and that was forgotten. it was a dry roll with dry, tasteless, overcooked, processed patty. Though I didn't notice this until my wife did, the place was somewhat smokey and it was emanating from the kitchen. They must have had the grill turned up way too high. The Service: If you don't like smiles, this is the place for you. The waitress didn't seem sympathetic at all about the cook forgetting the mushrooms. My wife asked for water and, before I could ask for one, waitress quickly walked away. She didn't ask me if I wanted a refill on my soft drink. After she brought the food she forgot about us. My wife finally had to go up and pay at the counter. I understand the worker shortages don't help, but... It was very clean and had a good western, small town ambience. Every thing is made in house and it's delicious.* She did inform me they take shortcuts on their Hollandaise Sauce and their Mashed Potatoes. So what did I do? Order a baked potato add brown gravy to make make my own! The 3 Piece Fried Chicken dinner was seasoned perfectly and juicy from bite to bite. The Onion rings were so good I forgot to share any with the wife. Oh can't forget the house made Ranch to go with them. Dinner also came with a side salad, which I wish was rinsed prior to serving, but the creamy blue cheese dressing almost made up for it. Super awesome folks! Here we are in the middle of a virus crisis and they are still working their butts off to serve us take-out! This evening we took home two plates of ribs and fried chicken and they were both great! The onion rings looked and taste to be freshly battered and were fantastic and their baked potatoes even came with the fixings. The salad was fresh and they prepared the dressing on the side for us. Their cornbread was nice and dense and a the entire supper was a substantial serving. Go out and visit these nice folks and give them your business during this time of difficulty. This is a lovely little place to eat in the day and at night there is a little bar. The staff is very friendly, the food is yummy and there is wifi! Overall a great place to check out and escape the rain if you are camping! The town is also cute and has a very other places to check out! read more

My traveling companion and I were very poorly treated at the "Lonestar" restaurant. I'm left wondering if this resulted from their extreme incompetence or if this treatment was intentionally malicious. How our experience unfolded: My traveling partner and I arrived at around 7:30 pm, happy but depleted from a challenging 3-day kayak camping trip in the North Cascades. We mentioned to our server by way of polite conversation that we'd had an intense few days and were hungry and tired. We sat at a table at the bar-side of the restaurant and the woman tending bar took our order -- 2 burgers and fries, coleslaw and baked beans. She warned us that the beans "may not be good and so I'll not bring them out if not." And then we waited. 1/2 an hour went by. Then another 10 minutes. I went to the bar and asked, politely and in a non-accusatory way when the food would be ready. She said that they were "backed up in the kitchen but it would be up in a minute". She gave no other explanation. Another 10 minutes went by. I was getting frustrated and went out to get some air and noticed on my way out that a lot of people were coming in and getting big order to-go. And when I got back to my seat I learned the reason for the delay: they put take-out orders ahead in the queue which means anyone ordering take-out from the restaurant at any time after us got their food first. Yes, you read that right. You order your food and a potentially endless list of people will get their food before you. We were never, ever warned of this. When it did arrive, my burger was burned and blackened. It wasn't well done -- actually char burned on one side. The slice of tomato on it was from the very top -- the part that you usually discard. It was also cold. I ate 1/3 of it, a few fries and pushed the plate away. They were apparently "out of cole slaw and baked beans" so those never came. My friend ate her burger quickly, got a box for her fries so that we could leave. In terms of "service" our bartender/waitress never warned us of this unfair moronic system where others get priority treatment over you. And this despite our being exhausted and famished and that we mentioned this to her at the beginning. When the food arrived cold close to an hour after we order it, she never apologized, never offered anything in the way of compensation. When she saw that I hardly ate, she didn't ask about why. When we tried to get her attention, so that we could pay and get out of there, she said bruskly that she had to check on another order. I really wanted to complain on the spot express my outrage -- but I did not. For one, I didn't think there was anyone to complain to -- clearly the waitress/ bartender wasn't going to help us and I didn't see anyone else there in charge. Also, my travel companion had endured a lot that day -- difficult conditions kayaking and exhaustion -- and I didn't want to add conflict to the mix. But I was very angry. I am trying to put this experience in perspective but it definitely cast a shadow on what was otherwise a spectacular trip to the North Cascades. read more

We went in for takeout at around 6, and there were only us and another order waiting. Only one person was working, and it was clear it was off-season/little business. Some menu items weren't available, like soup. Ordered a half turkey sandwich with fries and a Rooster Cogburn burger. Pulled turkey half sandwich was so/so- I think it's hard to have fresh unique menu items produced with little dinner business. The burger was better- egg was a good touch. Fries were crispy/good for their type. For the two meals, ~$25. Kudos to the worker for managing orders on her own. read more

At lone star grill in concrete, we go sit in the bar area because we like the atmosphere, we order water because it's hot and not drinking, and the bartender says, "I always think it's so weird when people come into a bar and just order an ice water, it's just weird" She said it extremely rude. Then she started talking shit about another customer for ordering just a club soda. The whole time we were here she was constantly swearing about things and taking rudely, and it took her awhile to get us our check because she was too busy talking to a friend of hers. This is one of the poorest run restaurants I have ever experienced. You never know if the kitchen will be open and your waitress needs to cook along with taking your order. I have experienced this on both of my last visits and the time prior to that it took 1-1/2 hours for breakfast. If you decide to sit on the pub side of the restaurant, you will be sitting under a large "Go Brandon" flag - completely unacceptable environment. Stopped in for breakfast at the Lonestar after camping at Rasar State Park about 7 miles south of Concrete. The Lonestar has great atmosphere, décor, but most importantly, GREAT FOOD. I had the "Muzzle Loader" omelet and it was by far the best I have ever had. I have an affinity for simple, honest restaurants like the Lonestar and it did not disappoint.
