My wife and I have been planning this dinner for our anniversary ever since this restaurant took over the empty space on the Skagit river walk in downtown Mt.Vernon. The previous restaurant was one of our favorites so our bar was set pretty high. We were not disappointed. When I called to make the reservation the manager was extremely helpful, and when I mentioned that is would be our anniversary she gave us a romantic spot in "the cove" area. A cozy, dim area with our table next to a fireplace and a great view of the whole restaurant. Our waitress was very friendly, and happy to give us recommendations for our food. We knew that we had to start with the Roasted Bone Marrow. It came out hot from the kitchen shortly after ordering, the smell was divine so we could not wait to try. Slow roasted in olive oil, garlic cloves, salt and pepper. Served with Crostinis. If you have never tried beef bone marrow before, this is the spot to try. The texture was great, every bite melted in our mouth. The taste was so flavorful we will definitely be ordering this again. For my meal I ordered the 14oz New York Strip with a side of Brussel Sprouts, and Roasted Carrots with miso bourbon glaze. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare with an excellent seared crust. It came covered in a truffle compound butter that completely elevated the flavor of the meat. My carrots were so tender and flavorful. I have never had carrots prepared like this and with such unique taste. I could not get enough. The side of sprouts were very delicious as well. Crispy brussels tossed in sticky bourbon miso glaze, topped with cilantro and Serrano peppers. In short I was very happy with my plate. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon. An 8oz Filet Mignon grilled to perfection then topped with herb bacon goat cheese and drizzled with a Marsala jus. Once again absolutely packed with flavor in every last bite. The goat cheese was an excellent addition that once again elevated the flavor of the meat. For her sides she ordered the Steakhouse Mac & Cheese, and the Whipped Mashed Potatoes. Two classic steakhouse sides that were done very well. If it's your first time visiting, I would highly recommend going with these sides. Finally for our dessert we tried the Smoked Brulee. A favorite dessert of ours, but Cask & Cleaver put their own unique spin on this timeless classic. Smoked maple creme brulee with vanilla macerated berries. Very creative and executed perfectly.
