The service at Rhowes Wharf Sea Grill was impeccable from the moment we walked in. From the host to our server, everyone was warm, attentive, and welcoming. We arrived for a late dinner after our harbor cruise, and at no point did I feel rushed or overlooked. Even though the kitchen closed during our meal, they gave us plenty of time with last call, which I really appreciated. The live music paired with the waterfront view created such a beautiful atmosphere. I absolutely loved that for us! The crab cakes were fresh, and the shrimp cocktail was just as good. My husband also really enjoyed the bread service, although we forgot to snap a picture before it disappeared. Overall, it's worth paying for parking just to enjoy the ambiance alone. Wonderful location on the waterfront. We came on one of their outdoor music nights. They were great acoustics, and lots of opportunities for people watching as it's a busy venue. The food, beer and wine menu is not extensive, but they have a little bit for everyone. Great service in terms of very attentive staff. Excellent. We had a wonderful evening celebrating my birthday while in town doing college tours. Food and presentation was great and the service was excellent. We had the grilled octopus, which melted in your mouth and was very soft, the roasted tomato, the Giannino chicken Cordon Bleu (outstanding), the wagyu burger, the Faroe Island salmon, the Brussels sprouts and the salted caramel brownie. Our server Esteban and hostess helped us charge our dead cellphone, and made changes to the menu to ensure the dishes were gluten free so our son who has celiac could enjoy them. We ended up having breakfast here all three days of our stay. Day One was fantastic. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. We ordered the Smoked Salmon Tower and the Breakfast Flatbread. Both dishes had similar flavors, but the Smoked Salmon Tower really stood out -- the presentation was fun, unique, and very impressive. Day Two, unfortunately, was not as smooth. The restaurant was busy, and the service didn't match the experience from the day before. Our server accidentally put in the wrong order, so our food took even longer to arrive. We ordered the Smoked Salmon Tower again and the Three Egg Omelette with Lobster, which was disappointing -- it was falling apart, the lobster wasn't evenly distributed, and a few toppings were missing. It also took quite a long time to get the check. Day Three was better, though still not quite at the level of Day One. We got the Smoked Salmon Tower for a third time (still delicious!) and tried the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, which were absolutely wonderful. Overall, I'm giving Rowes Wharf Sea Grille 4 stars due to the inconsistency in service. I went to Rowes Wharf Sea Grille on my actual birthday, and overall it was a nice experience. The restaurant is inside a hotel and has a very fancy, elegant vibe. We had a 4PM reservation on a Sunday, and it wasn't busy at all, which was perfect. We got seated right away. There were six of us, and I really loved that we got a round table as it makes it easier to talk to everyone and feel connected, which is exactly what I wanted for my birthday. I ordered the Wagyu Steak Burger (medium well), and it came with fries. The burger was a decent size, but I didn't love it, there was something off about the texture that I couldn't really explain. The fries were amazing though, very crispy, flavorful, and definitely a highlight. I was excited to try the Passion Fruit Sling drink, but it ended up being kind of underwhelming. Not bad, just didn't live up to the hype in my head (I love Passion fruit so my expectations are high). Our server was attentive for the most part, though there were a couple of times when my water glass was empty for longer than I'd like and it took a while to ask for the check. Now, I have to give a special shoutout to the pastry chef, Chelsea! She found out it was my birthday and sent out a special dessert just for me (pretty sure it was a Black Forest something), and it honestly made my day. Holiday tea. I've participated in a tradition around the holidays to go to holiday tea at the Sea Grille. It's been a lovely tradition, with the hotel decorated and tree lit for Christmas. When we first started going- tea was $45 a person. It included tea, scones and a variety of sandwiches and desserts. Yesterday, I went to my last holiday tea at the Sea Grille. It was a pre-pay of $138 a person. Tax and gratuity included. This included the same tea, scones, sandwiches and desserts, the sandwiches and desserts were dry. The chocolate mousse was like liquid, you could pour it out of the little dish on to your plate. The price did include 1 glass of champagne each. I watched our server open the bottle from the non refrigerated wine cabinet. He then poured us all our glass. We toasted and drank room temperature champagne. A few of us added ice cubes. All good things eventually end. It was 26 year long tradition, but now it time for a new one. The Sea Grille during tea time used to be packed, lively and hard to get a reservation. The last 2 years there were less than 10 parties the full 2 hours we've been there. Our new tradition will be a lunch at a premium restaurant in the city next year. For $140 a piece, we all agree that is a better value. And next year, we will toast new traditions with chilled champagne for Christmas and leave full, not disappointed. read more

I did walk in for the outdoor bar here and didn't have the best experience. First of all, their reservation system on OpenTable was giving me issues. It was saying that all outdoor tables were 100% booked for 28 of the next 30 days. I tried to get a reservation far in advance but no luck because of this. Then when I called ahead they said I could not do walk in and they were full. But when I just showed up they added me to a waitlist for a table and said I could walk right up to the outdoor bar. Service was quite difficult to get at the outdoor bar though. When asking for a menu the bartender wouldn't even acknowledge me. Eventually after 25 minutes I got a drink. It was not very good but it was very expensive (and included 20% gratuity). The positive parts of this experience were the waterfront ambiance and the live music experience. I went on a day that there were boston harbor fireworks but you can't actually see them from this restaurants patio, we had to leave and walk around the corner to see them. read more

If I were to utter a two word phrase to describe these dishes, it would be "perfectly executed". How did they make that Turkey Club so tasty? And the Tuna Poke was nicely plated, fresh and delicious. The restaurant is beautiful inside and offers a nice view of the wharf, and the chairs very comfortable, certainly appreciated after a long morning walk. I had lunch at the bar here yesterday and it was delicious. Rowes Wharf Sea Grille is a lovely restaurant attached to the Boston Harbor Hotel. It has a gorgeous vantage point overlooking Boston Harbor. There is a pretty patio outside but it was well into the 90s yesterday and too hot for me to sit outside. I had just finished with a hair appointment and had returned to the Commuter Ferry Terminal to go home...the ferry dock is adjacent to the Sea Grille. Given the post-pandemic ferry schedule which has fewer mid-day options than the past, I had an hour to wait before before the next departure so I decided to treat myself to lunch. When I am by myself I almost always sit at the bar if the restaurant has one. The one here is small but I have always found it to be a friendly place to sit and certainly easy for a woman sitting on her own. It has been my experience that the bartenders are always nice and very professional. Yesterday was no exception...I think the bartender's name was Julio. The Sea Grille serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea service. On summer evenings they host live music (on a barge in the harbor in front of the restaurant), and on other nights they put up a big outdoor screen and host classic old movies. I don't know if they are doing the movies this summer but the music barge was definitely in place so it seems like the live music has returned. It is lovely to sit in the outdoor patio with a cocktail and some appetizers listening to music. (Note to self: do that before the summer is over). The restaurant tends toward seafood but the menu although concise, has a variety of options. They have a small but good selection of wines and a shorter list of mostly craft beers. Yesterday I was deciding between the fish and chips and the Caprese Panino (a grilled sandwich on focaccia consisting of seasoned tomato, mozzarella and pesto). I went with the Caprese Panino. It came with a small salad and fries. The sandwich was absolutely delicious, grilled to perfection, seasoned deliciously. The fries were crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside and delicately salted...perfect. The small salad was refreshing. I had a Stella Artois beer and a glass of ice water. The sandwich was filling and I had half of it left to take home. They packaged up that half sandwich with care and included napkins and plastic cutlery. I struck up a conversation with the bartender and at some point, a man at the bar joined in. He was staying at the hotel. We learned that he had lived in Boston up until a month ago. He and his wife (they are both physicians) moved to a horse farm in North Carolina and are both practicing primary care medicine in their small town. He was back in Boston this week to do some finalizing of things with his Boston medical practice including taking all his office staff out for dinner the night before. The next thing I knew the physician was saying his goodbyes....and I discovered that he had paid my lunch tab! It was kind of him and of course very unexpected...I will plan to pay this forward....as all unexpected kindnesses should be. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully appointed with black and white houndstooth fabric covered chairs and lovely paintings of ships on the walls. The atmosphere is clubby (but not snobby) and subdued yet still friendly. The use lovely Frette napkins and linens. The napkins are just a wonderful thick and luxurious linen...you almost hate to use it. The prices are not inexpensive but I wouldn't call them out of line for the area and for quality of food as well as the experience. I have been here a number of times especially when I was still working and taking the ferry every day. Sometimes, a ferry-riding friend and I would pop into the bar for a drink if we had time before embarking. And I have come here before for lunch on a couple of other occasions...always seated at the bar... and had great food and excellent service. I've never had breakfast here but now that I am retired, I just might hop on the ferry some early morning and have breakfast on the outside patio. read more

The afternoon tea is lavish. It is extravagant. It might be over-the-top indulgent and seem expensive... and it's worth every penny. The afternoon tea is a scheduled event in the dining room done twice a day, around a setting that screams luxury and relaxation. Your price of admission gets each individual a steeped pot of tea as well as an accompaniment of sandwiches, pastries, and desserts. It doesn't look like a lot of food, but it's enough food for a light lunch or to hold you over for a later dinner. But quantity isn't everything... and the chef that prepares the menu does a fantastic job in creating ingredients that pair well together as bite, as well as across the entire experience. Examples of bites include vanilla bean scones to strawberry shortcake bites (appetizers), smoked salmon w/ caviar lox and mini Rueben sandwiches, and various macarons and mini cake bits (see photos). Everything was amazing and delicious, while being just enough quantity without being too much. The tea selection was honestly overwhelming, and am a self-proclaimed "tea guy". There is something for everyone, from the classic British afternoon tea styles to Japanese Green teas infused with fruit and aromatics to herbal/floral blends. There are suggested pairings on the menu or you can have your server suggest something that will meets your tastes to go with your food. The important thing about this afternoon tea is that it's an EXPERIENCE. It's pricey, it's luxurious, it's over-the-top... but that's kind of the point. This isn't a quick lunch at a pub and THAT'S THE POINT. It may not be the type of experience that everyone will enjoy, but for those that do Rowe's Wharf is KILLING their afternoon tea service. I wanted tea time, but I think we messed up on the booking so we just had regular lunch . We ordered a bowl of clam chowder, wagyu burger, rooibos and herbal tea, and for dessert bourbon baba. I loved my tea it was a light flavor and the taste wasn't too strong. The clam chowder to me was ok, but if you are someone who likes your chowder light and not too creamy then this is for you. I would say though it did have a lot of different potatoes in it and it also had clam and croutons that was a plus! The wagyu burger did not taste that great so I will most likely not be getting that again. My favorite was the bourbon baba, it was so delicious!!!! Earl grey instead of English breakfast. Whatever - we drank it anyway. After having to ask for milk several times. The scones were rock hard and came with butter and jam, not cream and jam. We had to ask for silverware again several times. The salmon cones were a highlight as was the chicken salad served in an eggshell. The two sandwiches (egg salad and pb&j) were inedible with totally stale bread. The desserts were pretty good - the apple 'pie' and the chocolate tarts were tasty. Solid food and service. We had the mushroom starter and the clam chowder. Both were really really good (and I'm picky). My husband had the burger which he enjoyed and I had the Poke bowl. I thought the Poke bowl was on the "simple" side but it was fine--it just didn't wow me (especially for the price--it was a mound of rice, some seaweed, ginger, a teeny handful of mushrooms and maybe a 1/4 cup of tuna. The tuna is the only thing that should really "cost" anything so I'm not sure how/why the entree was $32. The other ingredients aren't very expensive and the food was just arranged with the ingredients in different areas on the plate--nothing particularly difficult to prepare). We both had the Basil Bash to drink. I requested mine be made with vodka and my husband's had his as listed (with maker's mark). Mine was good (though could have used more vodka) my husband didn't like his and was confused on why maker's mark was the chosen liquor--seemed to ruin what was an otherwise refreshing cocktail. We sat on the patio right against the little flower barrier thing. The tables are just too close to the barrier--a snail crawled out of the planter and I had to get up and step away before it crawled on the table (or me!). The tea was very good - a big group includes the benefit of trying a lot of different teas. I enjoyed the sandwiches a little more than the sweets, but only because I enjoy savory food more. Customers Service: It was really good. Our waiter did disappear at a few points when we needed him but nothing that I would consider too off putting. He explained everything to us very well and offered some suggestions on tea when we could chose. Food: Nothing tasted bad, but nothing was particularly good either.The scones were like super tiny biscuits that crumbled at the touch. They tasted fine, but were not scones. The clotted cream was whipped cream and they were served with smuckers jelly which was odd. The sandwiches were fine but small even by finger sandwich standard and didn't seem well throughout. The deserts were okay, though kind of plain. Price: Afternoon Tea is always a bit pricey and to some extent you pay for the experience more than the food. With that in mind, Wharf Sea Grill misses the mark even by those standards. We didn't expect to get a huge meal (that's not what afternoon tea is) but you don't expect to get as little food as they served and you don't expect it to take subpar for the price point. The sandwiches were tiny, both the pastrami and chicken ones. Not only that, they were quite dry and evident that they were sitting around for a while. Pastrami sandwich for afternoon tea was a curious offering. The smoked salmon tart was okay but nothing amazing. The scones were tiny; definitely the smallest I've seen in a while. They did have plain and currant scones, they were really minute and the portion of "clotted cream" (I thought it seemed more like whipped cream) was even smaller. The desserts were atrocious. The worst being the mini-chocolate loaf cake. Not only was it tasted of nothing but cloy play-doh, it looked like a turd. Everything else wasn't much better save for the fruit tart. This was his first time but it was my 4th time at Rowes as this has been my favorite, topping even Langham's. As usual, we were greeted kindly and professionally by the hostess as she took us to our table decorated with fresh rose petals. The mood was elevated instantly. Our server came and congratulated us on our anniversary and patiently explained the different tea selections and ultimately recommended one that fits him. When our small yet exquisite looking 3 tiered plates of food came, I realized that their menu has changed since the pandemic but still eager to taste it! It was beautifully created and it didn't disappoint. I told my husband that normally you'd get a set of each for the number of people there so I was unsure why the desserts only had 1 this time. The macaron on our plate was melting which was an alien experience but I never knew they can melt into a puddle like that. I wasn't going to say anything but our waitress came back and checked on us so I asked if this was normal- melting macaron and 1 of each desserts. She said they tried to do something special for us but the caramel from another dessert must have caused the macaron to melt. At that time, I realized at another table, they had the number of desserts for the number of people attending the tea service so I was not too happy about that. Our waitress explained that someone had an allergy so they replaced it with giving them more desserts. From where I was sitting, it seemed like they had 3 sets of everything for a table of 3 but I took her word for it. She took our dessert plate to correct the melting macaron. My mood went from excitement to hmph, I don't know if I like this place anymore. It took a while for them to send a new plate of desserts but there was no macaron. So, we asked for the check and to our surprise, our waitress said she talked to the manager and will comp the meal. I told her she didn't have to do that, it was not her fault. She sincerely felt bad. She explained that it was our anniversary, we should have been placed at the table by the window and that everything should have been perfect. I asked how much would the bill be if we were to pay so we can give her a tip appropriately. She said that she didn't want us to tip her but she did request that we promise to give Rowes Wharf another chance, to please come back. She made me want to cry. I've never met a waitress who was so sincere and take customer satisfaction to this level. I would have given her the constellation of stars if I can but with Yelp's limitation, 5 stars goes entirely to her. read more

Came in before lunch with my vegan fiancé before heading to the aquarium. The oysters were amazing, and the sauces came in these cute dropper bottles. The lobster roll was by far the best cold lobster roll I've had. My fiancé got the vegan pasta dish which was also very good! I'm so glad they have all the seafood I want as well as amazing vegan options for him. We can't wait to come back on our next trip! read more

This restaurant is so sexy. The location is breathtaking, gorgeous building by the wharf with water views from inside and outdoor seating. We went for weekend brunch during a short trip to Boston. The service was great and everything seemed idyllic. The actual food was a little underwhelming, especially for the price, however it was still a good time as the ambiance was definitely worth the money spent. read more

Great drinks. Awesome menu. Food was delicious, prepared perfectly and good portions. Ordered the kurobuta spare ribs and the cockle and bucatini. Really nice restaurant. We called and asked if they had valet parking, restaurant did not answer their phone or call us back. Hotel front desk said they did have it, but it was $65. So we went and self parked for $18. When we saw the valet on the way in, they told us they do indeed have Valet parking and its only $18. I was so pissed. But the restaurant made it right, paid for my parking and bought be a round of drinks. So all good. Drinks were excellent, vibe was really nice, my stuffed lobster was excellent, the cesar salad was terrific, and the food was really good overall. Service was terrific. I was surprised how quiet the place was on a Saturday night. I told them they needed to make sure the hostess and web site promoted the valet parking, maybe that would push more people to come on a cold rainy night. 10 stars. We are vacationing in Boston and found this spot because live music had just kicked on next to it. The lobster bao was absolutely great, and hubby loved the ahi poke. Creative and delicious cocktails, a beautiful place and gracious staff made the whole evening perfect. read more
