I've been a patient of Dr. Prasad for a number of years. He has a good selection of frames, and his assistant Vianey does a great job of helping you extract the most value from your vision plan. It's clear that Dr. Prasad always puts the comfort and care of his patients first. I have a difficult prescription and severe allergies, and after years of medications, lenses, and optometrists, it was Dr. Prasad that found the right combination so I could enjoy my contacts in comfort. I highly recommend taking advantage of his new Optomap retinal exam. Warning - it is $40 out of pocket, as insurance does not yet cover it. It was a no brainer for me, due to my strong prescription and family history. He caught a couple of potential items, which would not have been visible with a dilation. read more

Brian was patient while I tried on tons of frames. Once we narrowed it down to two, he ordered them both. Walking In: Very welcoming and greeted by receptionist. Insightful and delightful. The two ladies were very pleasant. Waiting: It was my first time so I had to fill out just a 5x7 card. Which was cool and then they called me after I was done. I had an appointment and everything was on time. Exam: The lady explained everything and was pleasant and patient when I was confused in when to press the button or blink. Doctor: Welcoming and happy spirited so it settled any nerves I may of had. I was referred to Long Beach optometry by some coworkers and I've been back for 3 years! Dr. Prasad is very personable and truly cares for his patients. When I came in for my first exam I was a full point higher in my prescription. Dr. Prasad said my prescription was too high and after 3 years my eyes have been stable. Walked in over the summer because during my physical that I had to get done for school, the nurse said that my vision was 20/80 or something crazy like that. I was freaking out and I was desperately looking for good optometrist. This was my first time seeing an optometrist because while growing up I always assumed I had 20/20 vision. Dr. Prasad was super friendly and professional and walked me through the check up and made sure all my questions were answered. It turns out that I have 20/30 vision and that one of my eyes just isn't working as hard as the other. Stupid nurse! So he recommended I get glasses just to wear during classes, driving or anything that requires far-sightedness. I'm really glad I got the glasses because I had noticed my vision getting blurrier while trying to read things that were far away. His secretaries are also super cute and friendly and made sure I had "fashionable" frames for school. Minus 1 star because I wish they had more variety in their frames. Dr. Prasad is simply amazing! I came down with a random eye infection, so naturally went searching on Yelp for the best reviews and immediately decided on his office. Thankfully, Dr. Prasad's receptionist was able to fit me in right away (which was a miracle because it was a Friday and I had to leave for a short trip in a few hours). I barely made it to the appointment alive because the sun hurt my infected eye so badly and made it difficult to drive-even with sunglasses. When I arrived, I was taken to the exam room immediately and Dr. Prasad saw me right away. He was so friendly and kind and had an excellent bedside manner. I knew I was in capable hands right from the start. He thoroughly examined my eye, wrote me a prescription for antibiotic drops, and gave me a free pair of special sun glasses that made driving much more comfortable. He had me schedule a recheck for 4 days later and throughout those 4 days my eye felt much better, but was still bothering me a little. When I saw him again he gave me another thorough exam and prescribed me some different drops that he thought would help completely clear the infection. He was right! I am so grateful to him because I was going to be on vacation for the next eight days in a very remote area and really needed my eye to be okay! I feel so grateful to have discovered Dr. Prasad and I will be scheduling an eye exam with him soon because I haven't had one in many years. She said Dr. Prasad would put the Proclear on my eyes, too. When I reminded her I was looking for a new brand, not Proclear, I received no answer. When I reached out again, she literally copied and pasted the first message. I still tried with a 3rd message to remind her I was looking for a new brand and she said "Once again," and then proceeded to tell me Proclear was the only brand I could use. This office was like a breath of fresh air, after the last two others I went to. They were friendly. Even though it was my first visit, I was in and out in under an hour (compared to the 4 hours I had to wait just to see the doctor at last place). Dr. Prasad talks to you, not down to you. While the last doctor just blew me off on a few problems I had with my eyes, Dr. Prasad ask several questions and took a second look at my eyes. It was such a mistake for me to go here. The doctor was very rude & unprofessional to me, raising his voice to me. Just when I would voice my opinion about my prescription. They messed up my frames that I've had for years stretching them out because they didn't cut their lenses right. And now I can't get they frames back to normal with my old lenses. In summary, I got nothing out of this, ended up using my old lenses, they ruined my frames, & I got charged around $120 for nothing. I will be going somewhere else from now on. read more

My opinion about Dr. Prasad has not changed he is still amazing and provides the best care I just really wanted to update my review because some people who work there at the front desk are horrible! The guy that works there who answers all the simple question is super condescending and sarcastic with his answers. I have not been in in a couple of months because I switched to Kaiser insurance and now I have two different insurance. I called to ask if my contact lens prescription was still valid because I don't know how long it has been. I Asked clearly because I wasn't sure. I've only been wearing glasses full time for a few years and I recently decided that I wanted to attempt to try contacts for weekends/fancy times. I called up Long Beach Family Optometry based on the fact that they take my insurance and the overall happy yelp reviews. The woman who answered the phone was friendly and super accommodating with my scheduling needs (their 6:30 appointment is pretty much all that works for me). I gave her my insurance info and was all set to come in the following week. When I showed up, I was promptly greeted and given some paperwork to fill out. After handing it in, I was whisked back to begin my eye exam (no waiting at all!). Dr. Prassad was friendly and professional. He commented that my prescription had changed from my current glasses, but only a very small amount and recommended daily disposable contacts for me since I won't be wearing them often. I've never in my life tried contacts, so next I headed out to work with the techs to learn how to put them in - a bizarrely difficult task seeing that I thought I was cool with touching my eyes from years of makeup application. Even though I was the last appointment of the day and they were obviously closing up, I never felt rushed. I had no point of reference for what contacts are supposed to feel like, but the ones they gave me there to put in were REALLY uncomfortable and burned/stung my eyes for a good few hours. I paid my copay and fitting fee and left with some samples and a follow up appointment for the next week. When I came back the following week I had tested out wearing my new contacts for a few hours at a time here and there and every time it was super annoying. My eyes would burn. I would blink a million times per minute for hours and look like a crazy person. I just assumed that contacts aren't for me, and came back figuring I'd get a prescription and maybe keep a few pairs on hand to just suffer through wearing them when I desperately wanted to not wear glasses. After talking this through with the doctor, he gave me a different brand to try and oh, wow, ok, you mean you aren't supposed to feel like you're putting acid coated frisbees in your eyes when you wear contacts? Turns out I am stupid sensitive to the solution the acuvue ones come packaged in and THAT is why wearing them sucked so hard. Obviously, the second brand I was given was MUCH better and while I still think I'm a glasses girl, it's nice to have a contact option that I can actually wear without looking like a bloodshot-eyed stoner on weekends and stuff. They were really clear with covering what my insurance would pay and what portion I was responsible for, they put in an order for my contacts and less than a week later I got a call that they were ready for pickup (which I'll be picking up today, hooray!). I didn't check out their glasses as I am quite attached to my hobby of compulsively ordering glasses online (Coastal! Warby Parker! Glasses.com) so I can have style/color options for every mood... and when my dog decides to eat them... and when I lose or break them... are you getting that I go through a lot of glasses? If I was using my insurance I would absolutely order glasses here because based on all my interactions, the staff really does care and is super patient - an important trait when you're frame shopping and need to try on everything in the store before you choose. read more

One year I tried to get my pair of glasses through Costco only to realize that Costco was not offering the high quality frames and progressive transitional glasses that Dr. Prasad offers. He has amazing bed side manners, and he takes the time to actually listen to your concerns. I hadn't thought to add a review here... But I should because I found Dr. Prassad via yelp 4 years ago and have been Very pleased since! Dr. Prassad is compassionate, caring, and unlike most doctors you encounter these days, he takes his time to devote personal service to You, even when his plate is full! Every time I have gone, I have felt like I was visiting an old friend instead of going to an eye doctor. What initially got my attention was he believes in using technology to provide the most comprehensive exam possible. I have had several exams at several other places where the end prescription always fatiqued my eyes, and I spent a lot of time researching my options. Dr. Praasad has several non-invasive tools (important to me - I can't stand having things in/around my eyes! Even his glaucoma test isn't so bad - a good thing since I am predisposed) to give a precise measurement and determine your eye health. The most amazing of these is the OptiMap (think I have that right) machine. It is a camera that generates a 3D picture of the inside of your eye. This is so much better than the old dialation route because the camera sees a lot more, with more detail, and can be saved for comparison on following exams (which Dr. P has done each year with me). He reviews the image with you, and he is able to detect things like hypertension, diabetes, and other blood problems in addition to eye problems. It costs $30 that is not covered by insurance, but it is So worth it! Dr. P was able to determine the right prescription for me which was not so severe, and determined I had dry eyes - something no one else had said before. A new prescription and some OTC lubricating eye drops later, and I am seeing Much better! You feel like a partner in your own health instead of just a patient when working with Justin Praasad. He has a patient for life here! His staff is good and knowledgable and helpful even when it isn't in their business interests (I was told the cheaper transitions would work better for my needs, when they could easily have pushed me into the more expensive option. And they always give my prescription and go over it with me, even when I planned to fill it elsewhere). The only bad experience I had was the lab failed to process my lenses with the Crizal I had ordered. The staff quickly resubmitted for me and I got my glasses as fast as the process allowed. I see this as a problem with their lab, and not the staff (the order was written correctly) so I am Not downgrading them here. Oh, and their frame selection was awesome! I was determined to get Ray-Ban frames when I went in. But then I found a Penguin frame (The Luther) that was so much nicer and cost less! I am constantly getting compliments on my glasses, even from my old optician! Overall, I cannot recommend Dr. Justin Prassad enough! read more

I called this optometrist office because the screw on my glasses fell out at work. I used a safety pin to keep the glasses arm in tact but I needed to get it fixed because I had a meeting later in the day. I called to see about getting a new screw, they said come on down. The woman at the front was great, she took my glasses to the back, put in a new screw, cleaned my lenses and gave me a new lens cloth, all for no charge. This all happened on my lunch break. I was truly astounded by the great service!!! This really made my day, I haven't had such wonderful service in a very long time from any establishment! read more

Very disappointed. I had lost my glasses on vacation and when I called for a replacement pair they quoted a new discounted pair at $358.00. Went in to place the order and they would only give me a 20% off of $656.00 which in turn would cost me $547.00. On top of that I provided a new pair of Oakley's to use and they just needed to install new prescription lenses in which they never returned or compensated me for my original lenses. Seems like this office is more about making money than helping out their customers. Called NuVision and they offered me a 25% discount on the same glasses and was much lesser and I'm not even a returning customer. read more

Came here with my girlfriend on my day off on a Wednesday. (October 9th. I set an appointment up prior and was there around 11am I believe. They have an ok selection of glasses. People were nice and friendly offering snacks while we wait for our appointment. I then met Dr. Pham who was such a lovely and kind doctor! Answered all of my questions and made me feel confident in my next prescription. She took her time and made sure I was happy. Everything in that experience with the Doctor was perfect! I was then sent to pick some glasses out and I worked with a younger girl, pretty helpful. When it came down to price it was a bit higher than I expected... but they did an awesome job with my checkup that I felt it was still fair (mind you I don't have insurance so everything is out of pocket) so I thought for a little, finally decided yes. The girl let me know the glasses were special order since my frames were selected from the sunglasses section. And assured me it should take about 2 weeks sometimes LESS if the lab or something sent them out before. I just called 3-4 days ago and was told by someone else that in my case, it will take about a month. I was like wow, a month? Ok. I've heard of 2-3 weeks but If I would've been told that prior I would have had to go look somewhere else. Or at least I would know! My current glasses have been giving me headaches and that's one of the big reasons I finally decided to bite the bullet and spend a little over $600 out of pocket for some quality glasses. So that's why I took off a star. I just have never heard of glasses taking a month. And I've been wearing and buying my own since i was 21.
