I lived in New Jersey for most of my life and there was a restaurant that was called Arthur Treacher's fish and chips. I don't eat fish but the batter dipped chicken that they used kept me coming back over and over again of course hush puppies are good too well living in Florida for 18 years now I finally just found a place that makes a very very similar recipe. Batter dip chicken hush puppies I tried it and it was phenomenal long John Silvers on route 60 and Brandon highly recommend give it a shot. I wish I had taken pictures before I actually ate my food. It was amazing and picture perfect. From the chicken to the fries, down to the hush puppies. Everything was freshly cooked and nice and hot. I'm not even a fan of fountain drinks. But I tried my sister's and it actually tasted like Dr. Pepper. Not like pure syrup or like water. It was nicely balanced, unlike other fast food places. Which is rare these days to have decent fountain drinks. I have a some good memories at Long John Silver's growing up. And I hope to make more now that I was able to find one that's worth going to after so many years. They had a drive through and also a place inside to eat. Which isn't too bad either. It was clean. Something else that's rare for fast food places. The employees were also very kind and social. It's been several hours (5 hours) after eating and I don't feel like crap, like I typically would when eating out. Which has put me off of going out to eat. Thanks for another memory. Being able to find a place I went with my family to, as a kid. We're hoping to go back some time soon as we traveled roughly an hour to get there. And we don't regret it. My doctor suggested I start eating less red meat and more fish. So today I stopped by Long John Silver's and ordered a fish sandwich with an add on of clams to go. The fish sandwich was some generic white fish breaded and fried in a plain white bread sub shaped bun. The fish itself was rather devoid of taste as was the bun. It would have helped if the bun was slightly buttered and toast, but it was not. The side of fried clams was actually tasty, though the fries size bag was mostly tiny pieces. There was perhaps 3 or 4 normal clam strips (these were also on the small size for "strips." I suppose I wasn't expecting much, and I did get some Omega 3 out of the meal. This place really needs to call it a day and close permanently. TWICE I ordered and TWICE they cancelled. No explanation was given for cancelling my simple on-the-menu order, just that they would not complete it. WHAT?! I ordered FISH exactly the way they had it listed on THEIR menu that THEY created and posted. I did not make any special requests. If a FISH restaurant cannot complete basic from-their-menu orders for FISH, it is time to end it and move on. I know I am. Bottom Line on Top: Reliably good, especially rare in the Days of Pandemic. Yelp just nagged me about a review I started in 2016 and never finished: We used to do LJS about three times a year as we forget the quality. This location is (shockingly) reliably delicious. Every meal is hot (if slow) and yummy. Try this one. Trust me. So it's 2020 now and what I said in 2016 is still true, but overly stingy. As other eateries have flamed out on quality (food and/or staff), this particular LJS has nailed it. If anything, the food is better now than before and the service seems quicker. We have not gotten stale or cold food at this location **since the pandemic started**, something I cannot say categorically for any other drive-thru in the area. Still not five stars, though, and the reasons all end in "DUH!". 1) If you serve someone cole slaw at a drive-thru, what circumstances would make you think I DON'T need a fork? Is there a utensil-free way to eat slaw? If I don't ask, I don't get one. Also, see item 3. 2) Ditto straws. 3) Ditto napkins, **especially** if you expect me to eat slaw without a fork. 4) When a carload of people ask for "a big ole handful of ketchup," it is unlikely that that they mean three packets. One last whine: Has anyone in the entire supply chain EVER tried to use the packets of malt vinegar? You need a welding torch and the jaws of life to get one open, as which point it has stopped being a condiment and become a whole-body cologne. read more

Coconut shrimp do NOT taste like Coconut!!!! I did NOT find 1 shred of Coconut. It tastes like a he shrimp was fried in their usual batter. Calling it Coconut does NOT make it Coconut. Absolutely awful. The Coleslaw was good. It is very, very small for a side (like 4 small spoonfuls). I asked to tase 1 before I bought the lunch. LJS is a long time fast food favorite. My order is consistent: Fish and More w/fries and coleslaw. My experience has been inconsistent. To be fair, consistency is an ongoing battle for most restaurants. LJS is no exception. For me, it's the inconsistency (and at times, indifference) that drives me away. Moving right along... On my recent visit, it was slow, no customers ahead of me. My order (the usual), took far longer than expected. The result: everything was fresh, crisp, and spot on! No complaints! The drive thru cashier (Deanna) was friendly w/a good sense of humor. The westward facing drive-thru has a large stainless steel pass thru and no overhead awning. As a result, in the afternoon, the metal was so reflective, it was blinding and radiated a LOT of heat. When it rains, what then? In closing, this was a really good visit. If they consistently "do right", then I'll happily return (and post feedback of the results). :) read more

I just got home with my lunch from LJS and I am now upset. It is the only one around and for 10 years they can not seem to get there act together. l order the new salmon tacos.there is nothing on most of them they did not add the condiments and this is not a new thing. The cashier was very nice is the only reason they get a star. I have a pic but it would not let me paste it in this complaint shame. I went to there site they did not recognize the store number on there receipt. Store 31423 so I got no where with internal complaint. So the customer service is geared to not have to deal with us. Visited on a Saturday, we were the first customers when it first opened at 10:00am. Had the usual fish and fries. My wife had fish with rice and green beans. The fish was tasty but really greasy. The fries tasted old and the portions seemed small. The green beans were canned and plain. The sweet tea was fresh made and tasty, the hush puppies were good and so was the rice. The interior is old and needs updating and so do the bathrooms. There's a tribute to veterans and gospel music playing in the background. This LJS is definitely not up to par with other LJS, but its the only one in town. Also had the small sugar cinnamon pups, on the weekend they are only one dollar. read more

Visiting FL for family & Halloween and my bf made it a prerequisite that he gets LJS. Pulled up to the drive thru and waited for roughly 2 minutes with no answer. I didn't see a sign stating the drive thru was out of order so unsure what their reasoning was. I probably would have waited longer so I recommended going inside. Once inside the service was surprisingly quick & accommodating. The cashier spoke to the customers and the bf food came out quick and to his satisfaction. Although I would have rated this place a 1 because of the drive thru and never made it inside, I'm taking the bf suggestion and giving it a 3 as a compromise. This place actually gets better with the passing years. I have been coming here for over 15 years. It had an interior refreshing a few years ago. But it is still dated and old school. Don't let that keep you away. It is always clean. The food is consistently good. The cole slaw is very cold -- the way I like it. The bottled water is ice cold. The fried fish is good, fried shrimp better. Staff is bright, engaged, and on task. Restrooms are clean and shipshape. They have a "we support our veterans" corner created by a customer. It is seldom crowded, so it's a good place to read or talk. Sense of the Place: Light By the door is a ship's bell you can ring if they did well. Went through the drive thru and ordered an 8 piece family meal since there is a coupon on the ljs website. Get to the window they won't accept the coupon because it's not printed and only in my phone.. but they do not have that posted anywhere. Second thing it took 25 minutes to get my 8 piece dinner.. now I didn't order anything hard. 4 fish 4 chicken with fries and green beans.. 25 minutes.. very annoyed now... The young lady had asked if we needed sauces for our fish and chicken. I said absolutely we need honey mustard and extra honey mustard.. 3 PACKS!! That's all they have us..
