If you like flavor in your food then you have to try this place. We came here for the first time and we were very happy we did. To start with, the banana chips and the dip was delicious and we couldnt keep our hands off of them. We had the drunken mushrooms as appetizers, salmon and steak for our entrees and we were pleasantly surprised. My salmon was no way just an old boring salmon, it was flavored with some tasty sauces and spices, it was absolutely delicious! For the wine i started with the rose and ended with a Malbec. My gosh, the Malbec was smooth and flavorful, i think Argentinian wines are my new favorite. For dessert we had the grandma cake and on my goodness we scoured it right away. I ordered the salmon and my two friends split the butternut squash. We had two orders of empenadas and they were absolutely perfect! The beef, raisin, and olive was a great marrying of flavors. The salmon was so juicy. The sangria is solid and complements the food well. The vegetarian butternut squash dish was very flavorful. Jose was our waiter and he did an amazing job working the room and keep up with everyone. I remembered him from his previous place of employment. Always loved his service. What a way to end an enjoyably long 4th of July weekend! Sunday, latish, we wanted to go somewhere we hadn't been, wanted something that was different. Success! Longitud 35 claims to be a fusion of South American tastes. This type of food is not within my wheelhouse or any claim of expertise or experience, but what I tasted was artistically spiced and convinced me that I had somehow embarked on a quick trip to South America. The restaurant is on one of two main Highwood streets--quiet on the outside, not splashy. There are a few outdoor tables with umbrellas, fitting in with other restaurants along the street. We entered an attractive, modernly decorated restaurant. It had some stone tiling, richly painted walls and a few pieces of statement art (South American I assume). A very friendly host greeted us and took us to our table, explaining the menu. The menu features organic food, divided into large plates (usually to share I'd say) and smaller plates. We had two of the larger plates: one was trout--thin, baked and moist with an exotic crust that was flamboyant, but not overly piquant; the other was lamb chops--several chops, grilled perfectly to the temperature requested. Each came with sides--we had variations of sweet potatoes and vegetables, the lamb also came with a salad of your choice. And we liked everything about this place: our friendly, attentive waiter (a young South American Nathan Lane); our gracious host (friendly, explaining that they opened in November after being in catering); the crowd (this Sunday, it seemed like a hangout for several affable Highland Parkers); the décor and room (warm colors, quiet lighting, art work, tables comfortably set apart) and most importantly, the food--I've looked at the menu and see numerous delights to come for when we return. This has some expense attached to it, but unlike some other experiences over the weekend, we felt that it was the restaurant that offered a true value with excellent food. I came here on a Saturday evening with a couple of friends and left thinking it was an okay experience. I heard they used to be byob and that is no longer the case in case you were curious. The atmosphere is trendy and has a city vibe in the suburbs because it's a little dark, with music playing. We got sat at a nice table that was pretty big so we had a spacious meal I would think and it wasn't overly loud so they get a start for that. Now onto everything else. Our server seemed new and wasn't too familiar with the menu, but that's okay, since that is what yelp is for. The complimentary plantain chips were so so, much better at Tanta in River North so that was kind of disappointing since I was expecting those. Also, their dipping sauce for them was also eh. We got some empanadas to start with and they were so so, a little thick on the breading and the flavors just weren't there for us. We also ordered the white sangria and it was also okay. The one appetizer we did get were these toasted things with pork on top and some pickled veggies, now that was the only thing that I actually enjoyed and kind of wanted more of. For our main entree my husband and I shared the meat plate that they are known for which has the skirt steak, the chicken, the sausages, the plantains and some potatoes. Besides the steak, nothing stood out and even the steak I felt was on the chewy side. The fried plantains which I normally love, were not sweet like I like them so that was also eh. I thought that the saving grace would be dessert so we got their flan and it was also bland. I felt like overall, the flavors of this place just weren't top knotch and this is a latin place, they are known for flavor. I felt like I spent a pretty penny, was left full, but not satisfied. My mom, brother, and I came here on Christmas Eve together, since our extended family opted not to have our typical large gathering. It was the most delightful meal all around - company, service, and food! Unfortunately, I can't fully remember the names of the things with ate, since this was a while ago and I had holiday brain, but here it goes: We all shared some appetizer with mushrooms topped with some greens, amazing. Mom had a fruity cocktail she was in love with, and ate her weight in mussels. I had some delicious fish with plantains and grilled vegetables. my brother had this goat stew that was insanely delicious. I loved the fish, but will be getting that for my meal next time instead of a tiny taste from my brother's plate! Our server was friendly and wonderful, too, and really made our evening fun and special. He joked with us as we stuffed ourselves too full - and then we ate flan and a treat of besitos AFTER that. Tried this place based on a Yelp review. Went with a buddy of mine and had a great time. Atmosphere: Quiet, upscale with pleasant background music. Lighting is slightly subdued and the decor is minimalist but earthy. Service: It was what you might expect from an upscale yet unpretentious seasoned establishment. The service was attentive, professional and warm. Food: Outrageously good. Had the Peruvian Style Crab Cakes and a fantastic pork chop pork chop entree. Price: Medium high. Went once when they first opened. It was okay, took about 2 years for our repeat visit. The food tastes good, the ambiance is nice. They fixed the "smokey" problem they had when they first opened. (You won't smell like Ron O' when you leave) My problem is the value. For $24 bucks at Wildfire you get the best skirt steak you've ever had and can barely finish, a heaping portion of potatoes. Here for $20 you get a child's size portion. It's a fine "date night" place but won't be in my rotation. read more

Quaint little place. Food came out quick. We were in n out within an hour including a complimentary birthday flan. It was a 9pm reservation, they have slowed down for the night, I'm sure they were much hectic in the early hours. Not a South American food connoisseur but I want to say nothing tastes not good, so everything we had was good. In my opinion, I felt like its intentionally made that the heavily seasoned protein to be served with the lightly almost no seasoned sides, such as the mushroom or tapioca potato. Overall it was well blended and delicious! The skirt steak appetizer with the fried tapioca potato was good. Pork belly can be skipped. It's fried n really hard. The salad it's served with made up for it. We also tried the heart skewer which was not bad. The skirt steak entree stuffed with mushroom was huge, must be shared by 3-4 or more. Mushroom with the toast was not bad, but not wowing, too buttery, in my opinion. Lots of meat, they have seafood which we didn't try. I do recommend this place. read more

The drunken mushrooms were a standout, as was the coconut sorbet served with the chocolate cake. Delicious unique tiny Latin spot. Fills up quickly on weekends so reservation are highly recommended. They start you off with plantain chips and addictive chimmicurri-which is garlic/lime/herb heaven. They have lots of small plates to share and some excellent mains. Favorite small plates are the ceviche and empanadas. Their empanadas have such a light crispy crust and yummy fillings you can make a meal of them alone. Favorite main is the Moro sao paolo- which is a marinated skirt steak stuffed with sautéed mushrooms and onions served with rice and beans and grilled asparagus. Simple preparations but packed with flavor. Favorite dessert are the mini doughnuts (I think they're called besitos?) they are stuffed with dulce de leche caramel AND come with gelato. Yes ma'am this dessert is no joke deliciousness. The only thing I've been disappointed with are the mojitos, they seem to be very heavy on the rum and not much lime/mint/sugar so all you taste is booze. I'm not sure what kind of rum they use but it almost tastes like tequila, weird. Nice if you're looking for a stiff drink but just not what I expect or crave when I order a mojito. I usually stick to the wine or have a margarita instead. Definitely recommend! Really yummy break from the usual Italian and American places we frequent. They also have a nice selection of entrees and daily specials. I appreciate they make a point to note which menu options they have are vegetarian or can be altered to become vegetarian. By far the best restaurant of its kind (South American cuisine) I have ever had, and ranks near the top of restaurants in general. You have to try the arepas. They have a moderately sized but good quality wine list, and they make their own sangria. They'll also give you lightly fried plantain chips with their incredible house-made chimichurri. The chef (one of the owners) said they use twelve different peppercorns to make it, and you can even take some home for a small charge. I tend to get the churrascos, which comes with steak, chicken, sausage, some rice and beans, and plantains. It's definitely a full meal; I always have to take some home. The food is cooked PERFECTLY and exactly how you like it every time, with great spices and flavor. The specials have been different every time as well. If you're not sure, just get the chicken. The manager/co-owner has gone out of his way to make our experience great numerous times now. This has been my favorite restaurant since I discovered it. It gets very busy on weekends so try to make reservations, as there is no bar seating. read more

A group of us had dinner at Longitud315 a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed the place - from the food and drinks to the atmosphere. Although I do have some caveats with my rating. Our group of six was sooo fortunate to get the Chef's Table in the back. I didn't request it, but got it nevertheless. That was a saving grace b/c the place gets loud and if we had been in the "regular" part of the restaurant and not been able to hear each talk, my rating would have been less. This is not the restaurant to go to for a romantic, quiet dinner. It's the place to go with friends to have a good time with food and drinks. For drinks - I started with the coconut pisco sour - which I really wouldn't recommend. Nothing the bartender did - I just didn't care for it...and I love coconut and I love pisco sours. I then moved on to their specialty drink of the night - a concoction of berries and rum. I don't remember the name of it, but it was really good. For food items, as everyone else raves about - the plantain chips and chimmichuri are really good. Our table got an assortment of empanadas - that I thought were excellent - nicely flavored and not at all greasy. We also got the ceviche and arepas. I'm usually not a fan of arepas, but these were good. And the ceviche was the hit of the table. My husband got the Moro A La Sao Paulo, but unfortunately, he found the dish/steak a little bland. The jalapeno sauce didn't help - too bad it wasn't the chimmichuri sauce. I, on the other hand, got the Suckling Pig - which I thought was wonderfully cooked (not at all dry) and it was paired with delicious rice and veggies. For dessert, we had the bread pudding with cherry/chocolate gelato. I don't care for bread pudding, so don't trust my opinion of it, but I did like the gelato. They only have two very small tables outside, but the manager did say they were working on securing the parking spot out front from a table or two more. This place would be wonderful with a large outdoor patio - but then again, I'm partial to patio seating. Overall - I was very happy with the food and drinks - as well as our waiter (who was very attentive). If you've read my reviews before, you know my wife is Brazilian and I'm Cuban-American. So when we decided to try Longitud351 for dinner tonight we both hoped for a special Latin treat. Chef Tony treated us to a true "fusion" experience! Each dish was grounded in authentic ingredients and flavors while artistically introducing us to other regions of Latin America. Serving yucca and plantains with a Brazilian Churrasco and serving the tastiest Chimichurri sauce we've ever had with plantain chips (a free starter at every table) was a creative and perfect blend. The Churrasco itself included authentic linguiza sausage and perfectly seasoned black beans and rice. We prefaced our dinner with a selection of empanadas (Columbian) and pastels (Brazilian) that brought my wife back to a street fair in Sau Paulo! We had an early 6 pm reservation and were seated right away. By 6:30 the place was packed, but the service never faultered. While the descriptions of the desserts on the menu were as tantalyzing as the entres, we were too full to try them on this visit but look forward to going back soon to try them! I found this restaurant through Yelp a few weeks back and immediately knew that I wanted to come here with my family for my parents 38th anniversary dinner. I bought 1 of the 9 remaining Yelp deals $20 for $40 and made reservations without a problem about a week in advance. One of my sisters friends told her that she did not have a good experience here because it was too loud and not enough space, so I got a bit worried that I made the wrong decision. Good thing that I stuck to my gut feeling because Longitud315 was AMAZING in every way possible! First off, I discovered Downtown Highwood and its many hidden gems. I don't live too far, but I never knew there were so many cute places to go to. My family arrived before me, and had asked to be switched to the table that was furthest away and right next to the window where you can see the chef's cooking on the open flame grill. It's BYOB and we are very loud, so glad that it worked in our favor and everyone else's as well ;) The service was spectacular as well as the food. Everything that we ordered was amazing. We had one item that was on the house, honestly, I wish I remembered what it was.. I think something with crab cakes. Also on the house, we got this incredible handcrafted Argentinian bread fresh out of the open flame grill. It was sooo good, we ordered another order of it. A few of some of the other items that I remember: -Patagonian Montaditos (4) - Toasted Bread topped with Grilled Tomato, Goat Cheese, Anchovies and Argentinian Chimichurri Sauce. Goat cheese makes anything delicious, but this was a great app choice. -Empanadas - Beef and Potato, Ham and Cheese or Chorizo, served with Aji and Chimichurri Sauce. Oy, Maybe I've never had one before, but damn... just loved it! They serve one soup that my dad couldn't stop raving about, so that is a must to ask for as well. I don't know the name though... My parents shared the Longitud315 Specialty - it's the priciest on the menu, but it had a bit of everything and the plate was gone when I looked over at the end of the meal. My boyfriend and I both had the Chicken Chimehuin Executive Cut - it came with mashed sweet potatoes and grilled Asparagus. Again, super good, but it is a bit on the spicier side. We ordered a few desserts, though I only tried the chocolate cake because I was way too full by then. It was amazing, and to top it off, we were served the most amazing Colombian coffee I've ever tried! Oh, how I wish Starbucks would serve that kind of coffee ;-) Anyway, Longitud315 is a fairly new restaurant and if you are in the area or craving some Fusion South American food, I'd recommend this by all means. Just remember, it is BYOB which makes it so much better. As we were leaving, we did notice how loud and packed this place got, so the more the word gets out about this place, the harder it will get to eat here, especially without reservations. read more

I brought my parents here, and was a bit nervous because my mom doesn't really like Latin American cuisine... but I swear she would've licked the plates clean if it was socially acceptable! I asked for a darker beer, and our server recommended a black beer (I think it was the Xingu Black) which was fantastic. We gobbled up the free plantain chips and chimichurri sauce - ugh, so yummy. My dad ordered the Cerdo Hornado (roasted baby pig) which was perfectly cooked, he ate it with the leftover chimichurri sauce for a bit more flavor. My mom and I split the Chupil de Camarones (my mom had an explosive love affair with this dish), Drunken Mushrooms (she was slurping up the juices), and the Arepas.
