I have to preface this review by pointing out that all plates food is served on are disposable bamboo plates. Yes this upscale dining establishment serves food on the equivalent of paper plates. The menu read well and the food was ok. I ordered the porchetta sandwich $16 with potato chips and slaw. The sandwich itself was the size of two sliders. We also got the cheese and charcuterie plate. The plate was was good but no one in my party received any plates to eat off of. I am guessing they were being thrifty and did not want to spend the $.5 cents for additional bamboo plates. Also the honey served with the blue cheese was in a bamboo thimble and the weight of the metal spoon caused it tip over and spill all over the place. When I inquired as to why they were serving food on disposable plates they stated that they're septic system was delicate and they made an environmental choice to use disposable bamboo plates. My main problem with my entire dining experience was paying $80 for a meal on disposable plates is bad form and I resent it. This was not a hamburger stand nor was it a bargain. Buy some damn plates, hire some dishwashers, and stop making excuses for being parsimonious and spend the money for a dishwasher. Also, if you are going to pose as a fine dining establishment read some books on service. The Splendid Table would be an invaluable resource. read more

My girlfriend and myself wanted to get dessert after our meal at another establishment. Upon trying to walk in the door sometime in between 7:30 and 7:45 pm, the man working behind the bar put his hand up and yelled hold on!! It was a Thursday night and it was clear he didn't want any walk-ins to order a meal and keep him there, as the restaurant closed at 9:00. We said we were only there for dessert and the rest of the staff were talking with each other and finally said "you can sit there." We sat down and it was freezing and asked if we could move three feet over to the bar ledge that was facing the street...once again, the wait staff had to confer with each other to see if we could move 3 feet away to empty barstools. Such a let down to come here. The table was unstable and rocked. The food was horrible. We got the $4 bread and butter for our appetizer and the butter was rock hard. The $5 side salad was bland and only had stringy lettuce and onion with tasteless dressing. The eggplant was abominable. If you're in Wimberly, this is the place to be. It's even worth a trip from surrounding areas. Food is delicious (fried olives are heaven and the potato and goat cheese tart will knock your socks off), staff are incredibly attentive and the indoor and outdoor seating options are equally gorgeous. We were in town visiting from San Diego and walked by Longleaf and went in for a drink. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. He mentioned at night there was live music, so we ended up back for dinner. The meat and cheese board was awesome, drinks were great, and our waiter Travis was very helpful and friendly. We decided to go here for our fancy, high class, unforgettable, anniversary dinner. I wish we could forget it. I chose this place because I thought the oysters would make a great appetizer. They were out. I thought paying $45 for a steak would mean that it was the best steak that I've had in at least a year. My wife's steak was undercooked to order and the steak, broccolini, and potatoes were under-seasoned. I do not appreciate paying that much money for something so terribly bland. I ordered the quail. It was tender and well seasoned. The brussel sprouts were cooked well, with a bite and a good taste. Our waitress was asleep. I don't know if it was a long day, or if she had something going on, BUT I DONT CARE. We came here to have a nice evening and be waited on. I would have had a better experience waiting on ourselves. We set our empty drinks at the edge of the table in hope of making it easier for her to notice. The one time our waitress came to check on us and our food she seemed quick to get away. The drinks went neglected until THE OTHER waitress asked if we would like a refill. Thank you to the OTHER waitress in the red hat for getting our drinks, checking on us, and being attentive to paying customers. I wish we could have tipped you. On the surface this restaurant looks nice. The courtyard was pleasant to sit in. We weren't asking for a tuxedo, towel over the arm, white glove experience. Under no circumstance should anyone go here. The food was overpriced, bland and boring. It would have made a lot of people in the nursing home happy but anyone under 65 did not enjoy it I know because one of us was 65 and he liked his food it was terrible. The chef came to greet our table asked us if we had any questions then rolled his eyes when we asked him a question. My draft beer was served at a nice room temperature. My girlfriends mixed drink was not strained at all you couldn't take a sip without inhaling a thousand berry seeds, twigs, leaves, dirt who knows but it was undrinkable. Our waiter PJ was high as a kite and not a functioning stoner he messed up pretty much everything possible couple that with the fact he put his fingers on the rim of every glass and every plate as snot ran down his face. Despite my best efforts to wipe the glasses off my entire family got Covid from him. The only redeeming quality was the outdoor atmosphere and decor was decent. A friend and I took a trip down to Wimberly for a girls weekend, we decided to stop into Longleaf craft kitchen for dinner. We didn't have a reservation so we were sat on their lovely outdoor patio area in the back, but if you want indoor seating I recommend calling ahead for reservations. The service was friendly and prompt. Our server recommended the pork chop which was absolutely cooked perfectly. It might seem pricey, but it's worth it. My friend enjoyed the vegetarian lasagna. She said it was really delicious. The chef walked around talking/visiting with each table multiple times to check in. He's very personable and kind. He informed us he had just become head chef back in January. So if you haven't been since he took over please give the place a second try! We ordered dessert to go. We had the raspberry tart and trifle. Both were delectable. Definitely recommend coming here when taking the trip to Wimberly. The staff was very polite and seated us right away. Unfortunately the food is overpriced and not all that great. The cheese board has large croutons as the "bread" and the cheddar cheese is cut right off the block of some common store bought cheddar. The shrimp in the shrimp tacos is not cooked. It is cold, which I think is the first time I've ever encountered this. I wish that were specified on the menu as I probably would have avoided it. The kids grilled cheese is OK but it's also a little fancy for a kids dish. Our 7 year old wasn't a fan. I will say that their drinks are GOOD. I got the blueberry old fashioned and it was awesome and STRONG. Also, our waiter was either brand new or undertrained. We had to ask multiple times for stuff like silverware, side plates, etc. He also brought all of our dishes out separately instead of all at once. All in all the atmosphere is great, the drinks are good, the service is polite but not super on point. The carmelized Brussel sprouts were ok, but not very carmeized. The ambience is great and they have helpful heaters outside to keep it warm in the winter.
