Sadly I am here and giving Longleaf a three star. Upon arriving it was a little weird and we stood at the outside stand for a couple of moments until no one helped us and then we started walking up the stairs and two women asked if we were just going to the bar... And we said no we wanted to sit down and then we were seated. They were standing there the whole time so I'm not sure why they didn't ask us anything sooner until we started to walk indoors. We ordered the warm bread and butter but it wasn't very warm and the butter was pretty stiff... Also the bread wasn't cut through all the way, I get what they were doing but it was a little difficult to pull apart... Especially since the table was wobbling all over the place. next the bruschetta came out and it was *chefs kiss* very good! We then placed our order and waited about 30 minutes until it came out... It wasn't very busy. As for the burger, I probably wouldn't order it again. It was very bland and kind of hard as well... I ordered a medium and it was more so well done. The potatoes Lyonnaise was fantastic! I love potatoes though...in all forms lol. Overall, the ambience is great and they have outdoor seating that's tucked a little bit further back... Birthday weekend in Wimberley. I made a resy for Friday at 7pm. It is a really good idea to make a resy or you may not have the great opportunity to eat here. We sat outside in the garden. It was a bit warm but cooled down after the sun hid behind the buildings. Our server was friendly and made us feel welcomed. I started off with the El Afantastico and it was fantastico! Refreshing! If you like olives, try the fried olives. You can barely taste the anchovy pasta. They're addictive for sure! My friend is not a fan of olives and she even ate a few or 7. I had the half chicken and I am proud to say, I ate all of it! The chicken, potatoes and veggies were juicy and packed with flavor. Longleaf Craft Kitchen is a gem of a spot in Wimberley...they never fail to impress me with the incredible cuisine they create here. This is the third time my daughter Karen and I have dined here, and it's always a culinary adventure. We started with the Hangtown Deviled Eggs...these are deviled topped with a fried oyster, some bacon, and a drizzle of garlic aioli. You cannot say no to these, they are absolutely delicious! The sautéed pork chop with the calvados-infused apple sauce is like having dinner and dessert at the same time. While the Lyonnaise potatoes are very good, the crispy potatoes are in a league of their own. The ribeye...perfectly cooked and the butter really put the flavors over the top. I've never had fondant potatoes before...there were a great accompaniment to the steak and delicious. This place creates great food and our server Toni was wonderful and took excellent care of us. Came to Wimberley for a day trip to sightsee and walk around today and decided to try Longleaf. The prices seemed pretty reasonable on the yelp pictures but they have raised them slightly since said pics were taken. The interior is definitely taken care of and kept very clean. It has a very relaxed ambience albeit a little quiet. This is probably because we came in before the evening crowd. The restaurant was basically empty besides a few tables. Our server was very nice and made sure we didn't have any questions. We didn't really see her the entire time. She seemed to maybe be occupied with other things.she neglected to ask about refills or anything else. We only ordered appetizers and it seemed to take a really long time considering there wasn't really any customers and a huge staff of employees. Considering how many people were on the floor , there wasn't any bussing going on. Employees would just walk by the table and stare at the dishes we stacked. The food arrived and was beautifully presented and the flavors were spot on. I especially liked the deviled eggs with a rich yolk/bacon filling with fried oyster on top. We also ordered the shrimp en croute. I could not really tell from the menu description that it was 4 small tartlets. I guess i imagined it would be one bigger en croute tart or vol-au-vent type preparation. This is also bringing into account the $16 price tag which I thought was steep for the portion. Maybe it could be 6 tiny tarts instead of 4? ( i know its shrimp but its a batch filling mixed with alot of cream cheese i would imagine) Besides the price , the flavor was incredible with an intense ( in a good way) shrimp and wine filling. I still felt that i got good value here as the fried oysters i ordered were massive along with the generously stuffed eggs. All the criticisms above are pretty minor and I enjoyed my experience here and would encourage anyone visiting Wimberley to give it a try. read more

Had an absolutely wonderful time at Longleaf a few days ago with my wife. It was a chance visit as we were driving through town back towards Austin from New Braunfels. The cocktails were wonderful made and the food excellent. We had the Hangtown Deviled Eggs, the maple bourbon Brussels sprouts (soooo delicious!) and the lasagna and Eggplant Bocconcini. What an absolutely amazing dining experience we had here! We were visiting from the Houston area and decided to try this place. We were blown away by the quality and deliciousness of the food, the service was absolutely first class and the new manager is a gem! I really didn't spend much time in the place, just long enough to enjoy a Cadillac Margarita and sorry but I don't remember the name of the cocktail my wife ordered and to this we added an appetizer of some shrimp in a very delicious sauce. It is a good place but not really like the ones I like to enjoy, the prices and the little variety in the menu which in my opinion is too simple for the price determine the time in the place. This place was recommended by a shopkeeper in Wimberley; so we decided to give it a try for lunch. We were a group of six and it was a holiday. Nonetheless, the place wasn't busy at all. We were seated quickly. From the moment we approached the restaurant, my intuition told me that this was not a good choice. As we stepped up to the door, we encountered a bold sign notifying any potential visitor that neither open or concealed carry of firearms was permitted, and if we were armed, we were trespassed. If I had been alone, that would have been enough for me to find an alternative. As a private business, they are entitled to deny entry to anyone that is armed. That is their right. But it's my right to not support businesses that limit the civil rights of their potential patrons. Nonetheless I was one of six people, and I capitulated to the others in my group. After being seated, it was evident that I server wasn't an ally. She wasn't unpleasant, but uncommunicative and slow. As far as we could tell, we were her sole customers. Service wasn't really that bad, but not special in any way. We did have to ask her several times to bring one of the beverages we ordered. Despite that, it just didn't seem that it was a priority to her to complete the service of our order. There was also three other employees that weren't engaged with customers. In particular, the bartender was completely unengaged and looking at his cell phone. Overall, the food was pretty ordinary. A couple of the dishes we ordered were appealing, but others were nothing special. We also had to ask a couple of times for water. Again, service was slow. The waitress was obviously young and inexperienced. But she also could have benefited from supervision and coaching which she was not getting. Finally, the food was expensive for the time and location. We had ordered modestly but for six lunch selections and six drinks (three of which were non-alcoholic), the bill was $42 per person. Pretty pricey for that area in a modest restaurant for a lunch. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant. Perhaps the anti second amendment policy (especially surprising in the middle of Texas) set a bad tone for me, but just as it is their right to deny access to armed citizens, it is my right to inform other potential customers of their choice to implement that policy. Especially when the service is sub par, the food ordinary and of questionable value. read more

What can I say, when you find a great restaurant with a fantastic chef and you don't live in the area, you go back for a second trip. We decided to try something different although pork chop was hard to pass up. The special was rosemary garlic pork loin so we had that with acorn squash. Debated the fried olives which were very tasty. Butter Rum Budino for dessert was fantastic. Robert, the chef, remembered us from before and stopped by the table to say hi. The 'hot' bread and butter was a total let down for $4. It was like day old stale bread that I could've got at the grocery store for $1 and hard butter that they probably just cut off from a butter stick. The wagu burger was super dry and burnt. If it was true wagu then the meat wouldn't be so dry and the side Brussels sprouts was soggy. Goat and potato salad was another let down, there was no flavor. The quail was okay but the stuffing was mushy like apple sauce. Now the only thing I kinda liked was the devils eggs, it actually had flavor. The place was over priced for the quality of food. In response to the review from Gary regarding what he characterized as being the owner's fault: my friend and I were the unfortunate table seated in between the two tables of guests who got into a shouting match with the owner. You should all be embarrassed by your behavior. Shouting at each other and getting up out of your seats and carrying on the fight directly next to me and my friend. I was scared and rattled. I've never witnessed adults act like they were on Jerry Springer. Your proximity to me was scary. Needless to say you ALL ruined our meal and put a big dent in what was supposed to be our day to relax from very stressful lives. Gary did indeed stand up and and it WAS intimidating. And don't get me started on the other guest who came flying out of her seat and refused to back down. And by the way, the waitress in question was either on drugs or having some kind of mental issue. I had a great birthday dinner here last weekend while we were in town for the weekend! The wait staff were all so gracious to our doggo cash. They refilled his water bowl multiple times and brought him ice as well. Our waitress was beyond excellent, she was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very friendly. She recommended two great cocktails the Zen and Tonic and something with mezcal. We enjoyed them both. I got the special and ughhhhh it was amazing . Shrimp and scallops over a jalapeño corn risotto. My boyfriend got the snapper and he said it was very good as well. The chef came out and was touching tables which I loved. He also had a great sense of humor as I was gushing over my dish. The ambiance on the patio was intimate but didn't feel cramped at all. In all honesty the worst thing I can is that, it is a little pricey, but for the quality, would definitely pay again and again.
