A Tale Of Two Rings. I went into Longs with a friend who was shopping for a ring. She tried on quite a few diamonds and gemologist, Retno, was super helpful. Then I spotted a second ring that seemed perfect for my son and his fiance. Retno took some time with me to look at the second ring, and she treated my son like royalty when he came back a few days later to buy it. I won't mention which is which, but one ring was a much more substantial purchase. Nevertheless, both people received star treatment from Retno. She even appraised the ring for my son while we waited. Incredible service and she made a special day even better than we could have imagined. And the ring? I stopped by Long's to have a watch I purchased appraised for insurance purposes. I did not buy the watch at Long's and was willing to pay to have the watch appraised. When I asked about the appraisal, the first questions from the Long's representative was "did you buy it here?" When I said no, their entire attitude changed. I was persona non grata. I was nobody. They could have cared less about my business or interacting with me. They told me I could go to the website and schedule an appointment in late January Before I left I asked where their watches were as I thought I'd take a look. The representative pointed towards them. I walked over and there were 2 salespersons there, neither of which asked if they could help me. I just left. Won't go back. I buy 2-3 watches a year but it won't be from Longs. They might want to watch "Pretty Woman"....mistake...huge mistake. read more

I came back at 3:20 and I was still sitting in the chair at 3:55 when I chose to leave. For a store that advertises all over the place that they specialize in pre-owned and estate jewelry and watches...they just don't seem to turn over the 4 men's watches they've had with nothing for women. If you want a watch battery replaced they will tell you it takes 2 weeks or point you to the guy with a kiosk in the mall (who is fast and cheap and just great!). I've been a Long's customer for ten plus years and can honestly say I've never had a wonderful experience here however, I do continue to purchase from Long's because I love the high quality jewelry. My experience yesterday was luke warm as always. I think the staff would really benefit from a training on the customer experience and why it matters. Below is a summary of what transpired in the store and what shoud've transpired (if the customer service were better). What happened: I entered the store and the 'greeter' asked me what brought me into Long's. I tell him I would like to look at the estate collection and he points to the display case. What should've happened: After telling the 'greater' I would like to look at the estate collection, he should've introduced me to the sales associate who was standing right there and ask her to assist me (she was not working with anyone else at the time). What happened: I tell the sales associate I am Interested in purchasing a gold chain necklace. She says "ok", let me know if you would like to see anything. What should've happened: she should've asked me some qualifying questions to see what style, price range and occasion I was looking for and then show me some options that might be a good fit. What happened: After looking for a bit I ask her to show me a necklace. I tell her it appears to be rose gold due to its pinky hue. She responds "I don't think so" and hands it to me. What should've happened: She shoudve said "I am not sure if this necklace is rose gold but let me find out for you, if so, would you still be interested in rose gold?" In closing, Long's needs to remember why people come into the store and it's usually to spend their hard earned money to treat themselves to something special. My boyfriend and I stopped in hoping to see some engagement rings. We had a general idea what we're looking for and a fairly substantial budget we are flexible with. We were okay with having to come back later for a more detailed appointment but since we both have very demanding jobs, finding time we're available is difficult. The older sales woman who greeted us and I use that term loosely, was so rude out the gate. We told her we wanted to view some settings as we had a general idea of what we wanted. She never introduced herself, asked our names, nothing. She scoffed when we said the diamond size we wanted and said they don't have them in stock and would need to order- we were totally okay with this. She fought with me about showing me any settings and finally agreed to. We mentioned we may be interested in lab grown diamond but could go either way. She immediately snapped at us stating they only do "real" diamonds and ripped up in our face the paper she was writing down our diamond specs on. We very easily could have been talked into a "real" diamond but she was clearly not interested in us or our business. We ended up at a wonderful jeweler in Quincy who was very happy to have our business and the $30k we ended up spending. Go elsewhere if you want to be treated with basic respect. read more

My husband and I have been shopping at Long's Jewelers in Peabody, MA for over 20 years. Recently my 86 year old mother was rushed to the hospital; I pulled her diamond ring off her finger to ensure its safety and put it on my finger. When I looked at it closer I noticed 3 of the prongs were almost gone. While she was in the hospital I took it to Long's to be fixed. She had it since my dad gave it to her 63 years ago. I think I deleted my previous review. I did not want to give even one star for my experience at Long's on Saturday. My husband and i went in to get a ring for my anniversary. Paul came over to help and I pointed to a ring I would like to try on. It ended up being 2600.00 which was too high for us. He asked us what our price range would be, and we said 500.00. He then slammed the case and went over to show us a couple of other rings that were around 200.00. I felt so bad for my husband, who works as a truck driver, 50 hours a week, who wanted to get me something nice for our 10th anniversary. Shame on you Paul, not everyone is well off, but should be treated just as well as someone who can buy a ring for much more money. We then went to DeScenza Jeweler's. Greeted by a wonderful sales women who did not bat an eye to the price range and found us a beautiful ring. Sad really, we had bought a couple of things at Long's, and always had a good experience. Paul, you should take a step back, evaluate your customer service, and if you can't treat everyone with the respect that you would want yourself, you may want to look for a different line of work. I did receive a call from the district manager. Paul told a completely different spin to the story (what employee wouldn't), and it is really a mute point. I had a repair done here and let me say, my ring looks !. My engagement ring needed an overhaul. It is a Dana Augustine semi-mount. I put my center stone diamond into this mounting. It had 6 prongs that were too high, snagging on to everything. Overtime the prongs moved. It was awful. My white gold ring was horrible, needing to be re-rhodiumed, dull/lack luster. Not only that. It was a size 4, needing to be resized. I could barely take it off for repair. I trusted my ring to Longs. It is a family owned business th stunning at takes pride in their quality offerings and workmanshift. Update, the mounting is going strong, no bent prongs. I am very glad I switched from 6 prong to 4. The diamond is more visible and the prong is very sturdy. read more

This place is great I've been to the Natick one before closed I've been to the Peabody one and I've been to the Braintree one every single one is great and amazing to take care of you they don't really treat you any differently even if you're dressed in gym clothes. Paul at the Peabody store is great and amazing so is Devon at the Peabody store, he arranged to get me a different strap for my omega watch it had it shipped to the Braintree store, Devon you're awesome. And I apologize I'm not sure if it was Mike or Mark at the Braintree location has glasses blonde hair he used to work at the Natick location very good and helpful switches out your watch strap bracelet while you wait very quickly and make sure you're satisfied and is just overall great. Paul who is now at the Peabody store great guy educated me on diamonds I got my engagement ring their wedding bands. And overall really good guy and he will always take care of you when you come in that store. I had been to Long previously for some jewelry repair on my engagement ring and some other jewelry pieces. Being happy with their work, when it came time to purchase a ring, I decided to go back to Longs. Prior to going in I spent some time online researching their inventory and to get a feel for pricing. The day I was going to purchase the ring I found a coupon for 20% off in my email. I was even more happy with my decision to go to Longs or so I thought. I quickly narrowed it down to two having already looked online. Once my final choice was made I was given a price for the ring. I mentioned the discount and the deception began. I was told she had never seen the coupon before but they would process the discount at the checkout. So I followed the saleswoman to the cashier to be processed. To my surprise the price of the ring after my 20% discount was the original price of the ring given to me by the salesperson prior to me mentioning that I even had a coupon. The saleswoman walked away and left the cashier to "handle" it. The unprofessionalism at that point was unbelievable to me. I tried to explain my position and that the coupon stated 20% off. The cashier whose name I didn't get raised her voice and insisted that "it was already given to me when the saleswoman gave me the price." "She didn't know I had a coupon so how could she have given me a 20% discount? I reasoned. She was insulting and berating and that is unacceptable behavior in any business but especially in one when you rely on sales and customer services. I am going back to Royal jewelers in Andover. My parents have been long time customers of Long's and have been bringing their jewelry there for repairs for a long time now. Not only repairs, but they have also purchased tens of thousands of dollars of jewelry from this location. I decided to take my Rolex to Long's with the impression that I would receive high quality customer service and care for my watch. I dropped my watch off about 5 weeks ago to have the crown repaired along with some general maintenance. The sales associate told me I should expect it to take about 4-6 weeks and would receive a phone call once it was ready. They called me on Friday to inform me that my watch was ready to be pick up, however, I was at work during this time and could not answer-resulting in a voicemail being left on my phone telling "Corey" that his watch was ready.... my name isn't Corey. Although I realize this is easily mistakable, I would've appreciated if they took the time to make sure they used my correct name before leaving me a voicemail- as would anyone I'm sure. Anyways, after listening to their message I gave them a call back about an hour later informing them that I had just received a call from someone notifying "Corey" that his watch was ready for pickup. The male that answered the phone initially seemed very put off by the fact that I pointed out their mistake. That is when he immediately started speaking to me with an attitude. He told me to hold while he checked on the status of my watch. 10-15 mins after being on hold, a woman picks up and asks how can she help me... I told her "I've been on hold for about 15 minutes waiting for someone to check on the status of my watch" she simply replied "okay I'll leave them to it ...." not offering any more information or assistance to me whatsoever. After another 30 mins of being placed on hold I obviously started to get aggravated as I was at work and they were the ones who called me first after all. Finally a third person, another woman, answers the phone once again asking if I need help... I explained to her "I've been on hold for 40 minutes... my name is Cody Atwood... I received a call explaining there was an update on the status of my watch... where is my watch?" At this point she just came up with the excuse that they were too busy to have someone check, but she was able to locate my watch within 2 minutes on the phone. I then again brought up to her that I had been referred to as "Corey" multiple times and she also began to speak with me in a completely unprofessional tone. I arrived at Long's yesterday afternoon to finally pick up my watch. The associate at the front desk, a short blonde/ brown haired girl assisted me and was completely rude and unprofessional from the second I spoke to her. She asked if I had my repair slip and I told her It was in my truck but I could go get it. As I began to walk away she yelled at me asking "WELL... I mean, do you have a photo ID?"I told her "yes I do" she looked at me like I had 5 heads and told me I only needed one or the other to pick up my watch as if I was expected to know their policy.... from the moment we first spoke to the moment she brought out my watch and paid for their services she had an attitude and acted as if she couldn't have been bothered answering any additional questions I had. I paid a lot of money to have my watch repaired ($1,000), the least I expected was to be treated with respectful customer service but did not receive so from any of the 4 employees I spoke with both in person and on the phone. My mother came along for the ride, and was appalled by the customer service that we had received, and complained to the woman that "we have been loyal customers here for a long time and the customer service we have received has been terrible. It's really disappointing considering we are spending and have spent a lot of money here" She replied in a snarky manner "okay well I'll make sure to pass along your complaint to my manager" although I'm sure she did not. My family and I will not be returning to this Long's location ever again. 1/5 stars because my watch was actually fixed, thanks Rolex for the quick fix. read more

My fiancé and I went into Longs yesterday to purchase our wedding rings. I will never return to Longs for any piece of jewelry. There were so many issues, but the end of the visit truly appalled me. My fiancé picked out his band pretty quickly and we moved onto browsing for mine. From the start, the sales associate was making it seem like I had limitations ("oh you want diamonds 3/4 around? Well this is an eternity band"). I've been to Longs before and have always been told rings can be made in any metal, any number of diamonds, etc. I'm also listening to the sales associate next to us tell another couple this same thing. Then it was "I can't give you pricing because I have to check." (Ok, please do.) Only when another employee came over and I said I've gotten pricing before did we agree that most of them could be looked up. This is starting to get ridiculous. There was an entire case of rings we couldn't look at because another couple was looking there. Totally fine - we were willing to wait. Our sales associate then asked me if I could come back during the week because "Saturdays are hard". No ma'am, I work incredibly long hours to afford expensive jewelry! Since this experience was going downhill we decided to check out with only my fiancé's band. As we're walking over to the counter, I ask Jan if Longs offers a military discount. (Spoiler alert: I know they do). She says "of course!" and proceeds to thank my fiancé for his service, ask about his branch, etc. She is writing up the slip and then says "so what I can do is give you 15% in Long's dollars to spend on another purchase between June & December." I say to her, "That isn't a discount, that's requiring me to spend more money here." "Well no, we offer 10% but because you're military we'll give you 15%." I repeat myself again. She then says "Well I can't discount David Yurman because that's an agreement we have with David Yurman." I've shopped at Bloomingdales long enough to know that Yurman is always excluded from promotions, so I'm sure that is true but I bet Mr. Longs had $60 somewhere to cough up for members of our military. When she brings our ring, she says "and I'm also giving you a David Yurman dust cloth and bag!" as if she's doing something special for us. I promptly said those come with all Yurman jewelry. My takeaways: I will buy my wedding band (to the tune of many thousands of dollars) somewhere else, I will never purchase jewelry from Longs again, and I will be finding another box for my fiancés ring because I'm not going to give Longs any free PR at my wedding. I only wish we'd left without my fiancé's band and purchased it directly from Yurman. read more

This is where my fiance had purchased the diamond for my engagement ring and he had received great service then. We were excited to return, hoping for a similar warm reception. However, when we came in yesterday, we asked a salesman about a certain style of ring. The salesman had no idea if any of the designers carried such a style so he asked his colleague. The colleague said aloud, "You can try Tacori. I think they are the only ones who make something like that." I assumed his co-worker would then show us some rings or at least one of them would entice us with other styles.
