One of my favorite bars around CP for some good food, beer and to catch a great game. We ordered the 2 dozen wings and a pitcher of domestic beer for 24.99. What a steal! Between 6 people it was plenty. My friend ordered the crab dip nachos. Delicious if your a huge fan of cheese and crab. Another friend ordered the bacon cheese fries. They were so good, but definitely kills your daily calorie intake. I always get the honey Old Bay flavor on my wings. They have a nice selection of craft beers here. There seems to always be some special throughout the day or week. Parking can get tight here, but if you park behind the View after 4 PM on weekdays you'll save some $. UPDATE: I've been there twice since I originally posted it and it's just been nothing but disappointments. I went on a Saturday afternoon and got the same seafood boat but this time it didn't taste fresh. It tasted gritty and had a weird smell to it. And the angry orchard we got was apparently a "special" price and it was $5.50...I could've gotten a 6 pack for the same price right across the street. I have been here to drink before but this was my first time eating at Looney's. I had the Crabby Fries. At first I was satisfied with them but after a while it was just too much. There's a TON of cheese, a huge portion compared to the crab. They should consider renaming it I think lol. The flavor of the crab meat was good but it was severely overpowered by the cheese after a while. I would recommend this dish but I would definitely recommend sharing it with whoever you come with because it is a lot for one person. read more

Let's get a few things straight before you dive too much into this review: 1) Looney's is a college pub. 2) You're in a college town. 3) Looney's is geared toward college students (21 and over, of course). It wasn't that long ago that I finished undergrad in NY (4-5 years). I still feel totally comfortable with college students surrounding me and serving my food. This being said, these are not career waiters. These are not career bartenders. This is not a place to go for a business meeting. This is not fine cuisine. This is a great happy hour, grab some beers with coworkers while watching the game (especially if it's a college game, and especially especially if the Terps are playing), eat some bar food - kinda place. Do not expect a super polite, super attentive server. Chances are that they're either studying over by the cash register between checking on tables or are trying to impress some coed dining (drinking) at the other end of the room. Why I still go to Looney's even though I'm "old": I like craft beer. I like good beer. I like a great Philly Cheese Steak. There are plenty of places that offer good happy hour deals on beer, but not many that offer them on NICE beers. I'm not drinking bud, miller, or corona. I'm getting $4 Flying Dogs, Fin City, Dogfish Head, and other nice rotating beers. That's not very common in this area. Also, I think they do a great job with "typical" bar food. I'm a sucker for a cheese steak and theirs have been my favorite in the area. 4 stars. Why not 5? Well, 3 is "A-OK" and 5 is "as good as it gets". Looney's just happens to fall between the two. I highly recommend it if you're okay with a little noise, so-so service, good beer, and decent food. This place is fun. Go here for that reason only. You can't stay in your own little world and mini-table conversation here, but that's okay with me. I'm a fan (4 stars), and I'll be watching the game and drinking the beers with the rest. Disgusting place. I've had the displeasure of being inside their kitchen a few times, I'll never get food there again. Their kitchen staff dumps all of their cardboard in a trash dumpster even though there's a recycling bin two feet away. Peak laziness. I went to UMD for undergrad so Looney's has a soft spot in my heart. I always had a great time here whether it was for happy hour, late night on the weekends, or Trivia Night on Tuesdays. Inside there's TONS of TVs so you won't have any trouble seeing whatever game you want. If you do come here on a game day be prepared to wait or come super early. The past two game days I've been told there was a two hour wait. I came here a ton of times for happy hour. Food specials for happy hour are $5.99. I normally get the buffalo chicken tenders and they're delicious. It also comes with a side of fries. I don't know how Looney's makes their fries, but they are my favorite fries ever. I compare all other fries to Looney's. I've also had the BBQ pork sliders and they were kind of mehh. The meat was dried out and there wasn't enough sauce. I also recently tried the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese (BCGC) and this was worth every cheesy calorie. Mixed drinks and beers are great here as well. Looney's late at night has always been a good time for me and my friends. There's usually shorter lines here than Cornerstone, Bentley's or Turf. And they're stricter on IDs so you won't get the annoying underage kids who can't handle their drinks. And, as a girl, there's never a line for the bathroom because they have so many stalls, so that's a huge plus in my book. Don't expect too much from service. It usually is a hit or miss. The staff are mostly students from UMD, and either this is their first job as a server or they just don't take their job seriously. Looney's is located below the Varsity, a high rise apartment building. They have paid parking but I usually park on campus. If you're familiar with UMD's campus, Lot XX1 is the closest to Looney's. It's just a quick walk over the bridge to get to Looney's. It's normally permitted parking only, but it's free after 4 pm on weekdays and free on weekends. read more

Looney's is cool. Lots of TV's to watch the game. The food is pretty good depending on what you get. I had the steak quesadilla, which was very thick and hearty; it was actually more like a Philly cheesesteak on a flat tortilla. It's ideal if you're really hungry or intend on sharing. The crowd was a cool mix of local people and University of Maryland students. Luckily the meters were broke, so I did not have to worry about paying for parking, but typically you do have to feed the meter. They have this deal called Power Hour and regular HH, both good deals, and if you can't use those you can redeem an additional 10% off your Yelp check in (but not in combination with another deal). The mixed drinks were okay, my long island had a splash of orange juice; always a sign that a novice is on deck. I don't know what it is, but bartenders seem to love mixing orange juice with drinks when they don't have the right recipe?? So I sent the long "orange" island back and just decided on blue moon for the night, as the margarita w/ patron was weak. The wings looked good and I tasted the crab and cheese giant soft pretzel, which was ok, but I could not see myself eating it alone. It had one too many sprinkles of old bay (making it slightly salty) and it was loaded with cheese. This is a cool spot if you are getting a group together. I can definitely see myself coming back for another game. read more

I think this place has proved that I am too old for college bars! I think this place markets at people of all ages as I looked around and saw the average college student up to people who looked the age of my grandparents but im not sure how anyone over the age of 22 can really enjoy it here. They have plenty of TVs to watch what ever game (when the screen isnt blinking on and off) and plenty of loud music to blow your ear drums out. Well thanks Looneys, no I didnt plan on being able to hold a conversation with the people at my table anyway, who goes out for that nowadays. When it comes to the food I was expecting bar food but this was worse! I ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich and it was literally a piece of chicken with barbecue sauce smacked on it between two pieces of bread, no fixings of what you would expect from a sandwich, the fries were pretty bad and the drinks were watered down. This is by far my favorite bar to go to for happy hours. I absolutely love their outdoor seating, which is elevated on a deck and not overly crowded. Their food and drink specials here are great, some of my favorites include the wings, fish tacos, fries and crab dip. This place is also great for watching games, as there are TVs and speakers literally everywhere. There is also a stage inside the pub where there are often live bands, which makes its unique from the other bars in the College Park area. They also host trivia nights on Mondays and Tuesdays, which turn out to be more fun than they sound. The service isn't great, but it's not terrible either. Parking here is more accessible than other bars (there's either paid parking behind the Varsity, or you can park at Lot XX across the bridge after 4pm on weekdays or any time on weekends). Pro tip: download the Stealz app on your phone and receive a free order of fries on the spot! You can also keep checking in and easily rack up deals such as a free mixed drink or even a free round of Fireball for your entire table. Overall, I would recommend this place for happy hours and a chill night. If you're looking for a crazy night out, this probably isn't the place for you! read more

Looney's is your average college bar but improved. The menu is huge and has plenty of options- everything from tuna tataki to quesadillas to burgers. I got the ahi tuna salad and liked it. Just a warning- it seems like this place puts olives on everything. Seriously, everything we ordered had olives- the salad, quesdillas, nachos. Thus, if you are like me and hate olives, make sure you request your food without them! Looney's is one floor but pretty big. I came here for lunch which the games were on but I can see how this place can transform into a great spot to go at night. There is a stage for bands and an outdoor patio area. The drink specials are pretty awesome. There are plenty of delicious drinks (like 5 different types of mimosas) and your standard $2 beers. Man, I wish bars in DC had these prices. If I lived at the University View, I'd be at this place all the time considering it is right downstairs. Overall, Looney's is worthy of three stars. Average food, average service, good atmosphere. A friend and I met here for happy hour this past Friday. We sat at the bar. The food was great and the menu had many great options to choose from. However the service was just awful. They seem to have had plenty of staff on hand. However they were more interested in socializing with each other than serving customers. It took me 20 minutes to get a beer at one point. Also there are way too many tv's in this place. You can't get away from them. They were pretty distracting and may of them were playing the same things as another tv nearby. And they all had sports on. Some variety would have been nice. I've gone to the Looney's in Fulton several times and would recommend that location. Better staff, less tv's and generally more quiet. We came for a Pitt-MD basketball game watch and when I say I thought it was going to be a nonsensical college bar like the old days of undergrad, I can absolutely also say I stand corrected. I came here for happy hour with some friends, and it's your normal, average bar in a college town. Loud music, young people and bad service is pretty typical. Our server was pretty bad, she wasn't that attentive, and she was so reluctant to split the check for us that we just ended up splitting the check by credit cards. It would have been so much easier if she had just split the check for us. I'm not really impressed but the place is so close to my home that I'll be back. The food is good bar food. I got some crabby fries with my 2 Guinnesses. The fries were good and the portion size is huge! You have to love good yummy crab on top of fries with melted cheese. What's not to love???? read more

First off, I love Looneys food but unfortunately I need to stop patronizing their business due to shady fees. First off, if you use your credit card they charge you a "use cash and save" fee...what the hell is that garbage? In addition their tipping guide is deceptive. I've gone to Looney's a bunch of times and it's always been great. However, the last time I went, I was unsatisfied with the service. My table was left waiting for a while, which is okay because Looney's was very busy. BUT when I went to ask a waiter if I could order, all she said was "I'm not your server" in a very rude and dismissive tone. She walked away while I was mid-sentence asking if she knew who my server was, so I could keep an eye out for that person. But she just walked away and ignored me completely. I would have appreciated it if she at least said "I'll go make sure she checks on you soon" or at least listened to me. Like I said, I normally have a GREAT time at Looney's, but after that experience, I don't really want to go back ever again. read more

The first thing that comes to mind when you enter Looney's is the word "Busy." Looney's is an incredibly busy, active place. If you want a quiet, corner bar with typical bar food, go somewhere else. If you want an energetic, lively sports bar with an Irish flair and some tasty food, this is the place for you! We recently visited Looney's for our second time since 2019 (why so long? Because we live in Kansas City!), and were glad to find out that the food and the atmosphere were as good as we remembered. My wife ordered the Cheese Quesadilla and I ordered the Philly Steak and Cheese, the Canton, I believe they called it. Mine came with a side of some delicious cinnamon-sugar sweet potato fries. My sandwich was everything you'd want from a cheese steak. Plenty of meat, peppers, cheese, onions and sauce with the perfect bun to hold it all together. The thing was huge!! I ended up taking half of it back to our hotel to finish later. I didn't try my wife's quesadilla, but she finished it off happily and said it was great, so I'm going to assume she liked it. I know when we arrived in College Park, we both agreed that Looney's was a place we wanted to revisit. The staff was great, the food took a little while to arrive, but this was the day before St. Patrick's day and they were slammed with college basketball players, so who was I to complain. I've eaten at a few of the restaurants in town and I'm going with the opinion that Looney's is one of the best. We'll be back next time we're in College Park. read more

Looney's Pub is tucked away under the Varsity apartment complex to the left of their main entrance. Came here on a Tuesday night during finals week and this place was packed! I believe it was trivia night. After we waited over 30 minutes to be seated, our lovely waitress who seemed overworked seated us and gave us our menus. The walls are plastered with TV monitors showing different channels with sounds coming from each. When we finally decided what to order we had to shout our orders. Our cood took awhile to come out and my sweet potato fries were cold upon arrival. When a couple more friends came and joined us a little later on, our poor waitress had to hunt down menus. Their food and drinks took forever to come. We were almost done by the time their stuff came out. Their regular fries are really crispy and delicious and so were their honey glazed drumsticks. The sweet potato fries could use some improvement. After a second dip in the oil when I asked for it to be heated up, they were still mediocre at best. I would have liked an even distribution of cinnamon rather than a bunch on some and none on the other and for it to be crispy like their regular fries. Overall, the food is decent but I would not come here again just for that. It was a truly chaotic experience with too much visual and auditory stimulation. If you're going to have trivia night, please don't crank up the volume on every TV screen and play music in the background. Less is more. read more

Wow. Where do I even begin. The tall glass of water behind the bar, Marcus, began our fantastic evening. He was extremely attentive and even asked how my day was and how things were going. Pretty decent bar food, with the chips and dip platter and the quesadillas being my favorites. There's also lots of fun seafood options if you're looking for a more hearty lunch/dinner. The bar also offers lots of fun drinks and deals such as bottomless mimosas on weekends and crush buckets. I come here pretty often... cheap drinks, decent food. You can even also get some good seafood options in here. Beware of what nights you come because this place can get pretty packed. The staff is pretty cool they have been trying to be more attentive to their guests which is nice. My usual go to are the yard bird wings. Last I was there they were more on the burnt, fried way too hard side. But generally they are good. This may have been a one off. If you are looking for a quick bite wanna down some beers maybe a couple shots, and put something on your stomach this is a good place for it! read more
