I've debated writing a sub par review for over 2 years since my bathroom was redone, but today was the last straw. Here's a list of the issues: When you meet Mike, he will NOT be part of the build. Obviously he'll get someone to do it for cheaper than his rate, but he has a very poor sense of project control. He doesn't check in until you call him, and he doesn't go over the work of his contractors the way he should. The tiling that was done was very poor, and I blame that on Mike for not checking the work. To this day I look around my shower and see cracked tile, poor grouting, and a shower knob that I told them was installed wrong and they said I was wrong. Nope, I had a technician in a few months ago and I was right. Mike has poor control over his contractors. They come when they want, and he has no idea where they are. In my opinion he's stretched too thin on projects, which contributes to his poor project management skills. I bought a shower door that they signed off on, but failed to tell me it would be a special build until it was time to install it. They saw it and never checked it. I had to send it back and get a custom shower door installed, but the bench was built for the previous shower door. Nightmare situation that never should have happened. The shower floor doesn't drain well due to poorly constructed sloping. The shower door isn't built on an incline so the water pools at the door. Both of these problems were redone after we pointed them out, and they remain. Finally, today was it. My drain is clogged due build up which is natural. I go to take the drain cover off, unscrew it, AND IT'S CEMENTED IN! Are you kidding me!? Who's bright idea was it to cement in a drain cover? That's what the screws are for to keep it on! Unbelievable. If I saw Mike again, you bet he'd get an earful from me. Worst project management I've ever seen. read more

Looney's regrouted my tub during the summer of 2019. The price was reasonable, and the work was pretty straightforward. The tub area looked great afterwards. I did notice that the wall around the tile had some nicks in it, as well as the tile had some gunk (cement?) that had dripped on it. But I decided I would have to live with that. Less than a year later, mold began growing again. I contacted Looney's and they sent someone out to take a look. They agreed to replace the caulking without charging me, so I was grateful for that good customer service. Tub looks good again. The only complaint is that in February of 2021 I received an email with an invoice for the work done in 2019. I was shocked because I knew I had paid, and wondered why the invoice was being sent so late. I called the office and was told that they didn't have check or credit card record of me paying. My response was that I paid and even had an email confirmation from them saying so and why not call if there's a question instead of sending an invoice? An unsuspecting customer might accidentally double pay because of this "error". Their response was they were about to call. That's poor communication in my opinion, but otherwise, good service and friendly/professional people. Just be sure you keep track of your own financial records just in case. read more

I have two fireplaces that were originally dated marble with brass doors, I wanted to have them redone with encaustic tiles. The first one I did a few years ago, hiring a woman who did an amazing job, I was going to have her do my second fireplace but sadly she was injured and retired recently. I am not sure where I found Looney's but I am glad I did. They came out to give me an estimate and explained the process and my responsibility. They were friendly and informative. The men who came out to do the job were very professional and did a wonderful job and gave me cleaning and care instructions, I am very happy with the outcome. Avoid having any deals with Looney's Tile and Grout LLC. I regret that I started a guest bathroom renovation project with them. The starting point is that Looney's LLC doesn't have a Virginia plumbing license. I was not informed about it, and they didn't mention it until I requested this information a few days ago. This company installed a new shower in May 2023. After the installation, the shower started to make a lot of noise. Only after almost 6 months of my requests to the top managers of Looney's LLC, they sent a plumber to my house. Eventually, the plumber changed something inside the installed shower faucet. The initial noise went away, but another noise appeared. I'm again one-on-one with this noise issue. Looney's LLC doesn't even try to fix it. Top managers tried to deceive me. They were converting the situation and provoking a scandal just to tell me that they stopped any "professional support". This is how warranty obligations work at Looney's Tile and Grout. Looney's Tile and Grout LLC managers gave me a 1-year warranty on all their work performed in the house. It's been more than 7 months since I asked for the noise issue to be fixed. I spoke with multiple Looney's LLC representatives, sent them more than 60 e-mails, had multiple phone calls, and answered many questions. The noise issue is still present. Managers simply sent different people to my house. Sometimes "plumbers" showed up without any tools. They were not even trying to fix this issue. This company is not responsible for what they are doing or have done. Looney's Tile and Grout managers keep saying that they guarantee a high quality of their jobs. This is not true. Numerous contractors refuse to work with this company because the managers of Looney's LLC are not responsible for their words. I could write a whole book about my negative experience with these guys. I just want to save my time on this. read more

From start to finish on remodeling, retiling, and regrouting our three full bathrooms and powder room, my wife and I were very impressed with Looney's Tile & Grout. This company runs like a top and has excellent project managers and craftsmen. Communication throughout the project was superb, starting with Mike Looney's initial visit and estimate and continuing with Renée, Rota, and Flavio. We had a near-full remodel of our master bathroom, floor retiling in the powder room, floor retiling of the upstairs bathroom, and regrouting of our full bathroom floor in the basement, and clean & seal of the wall tile in the upstairs and basement bathrooms. All the prep, tile and baseboard installation, plumbing, and painting was done by Rosendo and Oliver, two extremely capable, precise, and considerate craftsmen. The glass shower enclosure was installed by Asif, and the regrouting and clean and seal was done by Sedrack. The work took a couple of weeks, and at the end, I was sad to part ways with Looney's team. These folks are true professionals and nice people to boot. Working with Looney's was a pleasant experience and we are so happy with our bathroom "spa". I had direct communication with Amy and Frank who were most professional and even got a surprise visit from the owner Michael one morning to do some measuring. It was so nice meeting him and talking with him about the business. Frank was the project manager and had a great disposition. He also had great ideas and ended up advising us on updates we had not thought of and he was great with answering my many questions about the job. Amy, the client services specialist was the liaison and got us talking to the right people when needed. She was also so friendly and personable. We absolutely love our spa-themed bathroom and it's exactly what we had envisioned, minus the special details that were advised by Frank. We were so thrilled that he suggested the black tile border around the existing tub and new shower enclosure. I have waited a long time to write this review because I wanted to wait until my fury and disgust had abated so that I could look at it with clear eyes. The short version: I was way overcharged for the quality of work. The long version: I had the floor redone (carpet torn up, soundproofing and tile put down), repainting, and some patching and wall tiling. Looney's was the first folks I contacted because they had some solid reviews from a lot of places. Then I went to go look at tile and long story short, I got told that if I went with another company, I would get a twenty year warranty. Well, that's pretty solid. They were reasonably priced but...shady. I was getting steadily angrier with the situation. Days before we were to begin, I found out that in fact there was only a one year warranty. I cancelled the project right then and there. Desperate, I contacted Looney's again and explained the situation. They understood, immediately sent me their insurance paperwork and their licenses and such, and just the sheer professionalism was night and day. Mike came out with Roberto (who I thought was his like number two guy, but more on that later) and looked the place over. Asked a lot of good questions, gave a lot of good explanations, told me what I could and could not do. It all seemed on the up and up. I got the quote. It was double that of the other guy. I thought to myself- I'm paying for quality. I'm paying more money because I want work that will be done well, that will last, that will save me the headaches of doing it the wrong way. If I just wanted a couple of guys from Home Depot (cough) then I'd have gone with the other guy. I'm paying more because I'm getting experienced professionals. I was wrong. Mike Looney subcontracted the work to some random guy- at which point, why am I paying the middleman? For the price I paid, was it a team of professional, unionized, licensed, bonded- you know it wasn't. So. Where to begin? Four months later, half the doors didn't open, they destroyed family heirlooms and bedspreads, they took twice as long as they said they would, there are mortared footprints embedded on my floor, the tiles are uneven in places, there are splatters of mortar on the doorframes and walls that will never come off, the paint job is wonky and uneven (paint was applied in random directions it looks like, with glossy and matte patches), they installed visibly damaged tiles rather than discarding them (when I called to complain about this, I was told that it wasn't their workmanship at fault and therefore they wouldn't correct it), and I waited for a month to hear back from them on my warranty repairs. I just...This is as succinct a review as I can make. I hired these folks 2 1/2 years ago and I am *still* mad about it. What an utter crapshow. I don't know how they are getting all these five star reviews. I saw those five star reviews when I hired them, but that was not at all my experience. read more

Recommended by another tile company for our tile replacement and tile repair. Omar spent 8 hours removing the broken tile, the old thin set and then installing the only spare tiles we had (they are out of stock and no longer available- anywhere!). He then repaired the grout and sealed the entire floor. Wow. It looks brand new! I cannot believe the difference he made. I recommend Looney's for all you tile and grout repairs. So, except for a minor scheduling dilemma the team from Looney's was professional, courteous, and more importantly happy to show us their work. It seems unusual these days that people take pride in their work. Omar was a quiet unpretentious guy, but he did do great work. My bathroom now looks like it did 20 years ago when it was remodeled. The tile is bright again and the grout lines are consistent and match the original grout in density and color. Mike Looney was on time for the estimate and extremely professional and listened to what we wanted and gave his advise based on years of service. We received the estimate on the spot and there was no sales tactics which I am not a fan of and the estimate was e-mailed in a few hours. We had some questions about the bathroom remodel and wanted to add a few things to the estimate and that process was just a phone call and quick e-mail that was solved in 15 minutes. For the project we were assigned Alex Murillo who was great and is the best contractor we have since we moved into the area 5 years ago. He is extremely professional and personable and showed up on time everyday which is great since I had to get go to work a few of the days. He kept us posted on the progress while I was at work and did amazing work on the bathtub and floor tiling and the plumbing. We loved working with Alex for this bathroom remodle and the whole team at Looney's Tile and Grout and are thinking of moving up a project so we can use them again since we loved working with them so much We used a different contractor to remodel a different bathroom and we are upset at ourselfs for not contacting Looney's Tile and Grout for that project read more

I've been hesitant to write a review, because I wanted to be sure of my experience and that there is nothing that can be done to improve it. We originally had work started in February 2015. We wanted our kitchen floor deep cleaned, our master bathroom floors retiled (the grout was cracking and tiles were starting to) and the shower regrouted. The good: every single person who came to our house looked me in the eye, introduced themselves, and shook my hand. No one came to the door without a phone call first letting me know they were on their way. My new bathroom floors looked beautiful. I also love that this is a small business and the owners pride themselves on excellent customer service and workmanship. I felt really good about hiring them and recommended them to others before the completion of my project. The bad: The project took twice as long as anticipated because they sent one person out at a time to work. Although I purchased the recommended number of tiles, I was sent mid-project to get another box, which is not easy to do with two very small kids in the freezing cold winter. I was told the kitchen floor would be cleaned with an acid-based wash, but it turned out to be an alkaline cleaner (while I can not argue that the kitchen floor looks much better than it did, I wonder how much cleaner it would look had they used the product they sold to me. I also felt mislead.) Lastly, I was told that the shower would "look and function as brand new" and again, while it is a significant improvement, it absolutely does not look brand new; there is also a spot that was not caulked, and a fairly large mess was left behind for me to clean, including a VERY significant amount of debris that was swept or knocked into the heating vent, as well as large chips in the paint above the shower that we needed to repaint. We also have two ongoing issues related directly to their work. The ugly: One of the machines used in the bathroom upstairs caused significant nail pops in the ceiling in the den below. When I notified the owner, she immediately sent someone out to look at it, and as nice as he was, the spackle and paint job he did looks worse than the nail pops did so that is only frustrating us more. I know this was not intentional, but we will be left with the expense of repairing it when the time comes. The biggest issue we have is, by July 2015 the grout in our master bathroom was cracking again. We were sold a new subfloor and told that that would solve the issue of the cracking grout and tiles, so we were shocked when it started happening again just months after work was finished. I notified the owner who sent someone out immediately to review and regrout our floor. It is now almost a year later, June 2016, and the grout is cracking once again in all of the same places. This leads me to believe that the subfloor they recommended was a complete waste of money. At this point, I will have to contact yet another company to evaluate their work and determine next steps in repairing our floor - yet another expense incurred as a direct result of their work. read more

When you spend over $8000 with a company you expect results. We got 6 attempts at an open concept shower by 3 different tilers during a 6 month period. Michael Looney showed up twice. Our 2nd floor shower is complete but is ugly and leaks water through the ceiling to the first floor. He offered $200 compensation on the $8000 job. This guy is a crook and a con artist. Talks a great game. Two of his tilers didn't even speak english. After the 6th attempt, he started blaming us. They gave us what we asked for, etc. No, we are not tile experts and our job was not to supervise your incompetent, unskilled workers. That was your job, you were paid handsomely, and you failed. We are so disappointed. And out of money. And left with a non-functional, leaking shower. read more

The work that they did on the tile looks good. However, their customer service is extremely poor. When the representative came out to give us an estimate, he was most enthusiastic on what they could do. However, when the work was completed, there were areas that had not been touched as we had discussed and dissatisfaction with the shower in particular. When I called, they asked for pictures so I emailed them. I then got a response saying basically that they don't guarantee the results and offered me a $75 credit on a bill of over $1000. I would expect a phone call at a minimum but more appropriately a visit from someone in management/quality control. But I did not get any of that! I would not recommend them based on their level of customer service alone. read more
