Well, it has been a long time coming; however, we finally got to try Lord Empanada on 03/01/2024. We ordered upon arrival and it took only about 10 minutes to prepare our order. We ordered a dozen of various varieties. Currently, each empanda is $3.50 if ordered by the dozen or $3.95 if ordering less than a dozen. I really do appreciate how the bags inside the boxes are labeled with what each variety is. We ended up ordering 2 Beef, 1 Chicken, 1 Spinach, 1 Black Bean, 2 Birria, 2 Mushroom, 1 Apple Pie and 2 Cheesecake. We loved every single one of them; however, our absolute favorite was the Mushroom. The accompanying sauces were also excellent. We shared a dozen between 4 adults for dinner with another accompanying side, and we felt it was plenty. We loved them and will definitely order from Lord Empanada again in the future. read more

Lord Empanada is one of those hidden Jems of Monrovia/Duarte. Tucked behind the busy 210 fwy this place is a must go. The place itself is kinda small but they do have chairs and tables, but I don't think a large party would fit. The ambiance is nice, cozy, and inviting. Parking might be difficult because it's small. The food is amazing, I would highly recommend the spinach and cheese empanadas with their in house chimichurri. In addition, I would also suggest trying their tri-tip steak sandwiches. read more

We had the beef empanada, it was so good we ordered 3 more to-go for our kids. My husband really enjoyed his grilled chicken club sandwich with fries, it was juicy, not dry with good flavor. I enjoyed my tri-tip sandwich with salad, the beef was tender, good flavor but a little salty. The aguas frescas we're really good too, we got hibiscus & the cucumber mint lime. What a find! This cozy, tiny spot ended up being one of the highlights of our trip; I can't recommend it enough! We came about an hour before closing so some of their dishes/empanadas were sold out. We were a little sad, but took this as a very good sign: they must make them fresh and people must buy them a lot, we thought. We ordered some breakfast empanadas, beef, and black bean ones. We also ordered the tri-tip sandwich. The empanadas were hot with great texture, and tasty fillings on the inside. You also get sides of chimichurri to dip. The sandwich was juicy, full of flavor and seasoned perfectly. We loved the empanadas so much we bought more to go! They do also have local craft beers and desserts that we will try next time. And the service here is homey and friendly, we wish we could remember the cashiers name, they were so nice. I really enjoyed the chimichurri sauce! Really thankful for the man who checked the stock in the back on the apple pie empanadas even though it was crossed off on their menu at the time. This place is amazing! I called in an order for a dozen empanadas and they informed me it would be approximately 15 minutes. Upon arriving, knowing the parking was a bear, we pulled in through the side alley. The restaurant is small but there are a few tables to eat in. Staff all very welcoming and acknowledged delays in orders. I went to the cash register to pay for my order....no problems and super friendly and professional staff. I had to wait a few minutes..when they came out with my order, I was so impressed with the way they packaged it in addition to receiving a bottle of their hot sauce! The empanada dough was a little too thick, making it a bit dense. The potatoes in the breakfast empanada were too al dente for my liking. The filling resembled apple sauce purée. On our quest to try out as many of the restaurants listed on Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in the United States in 2023, we decided to pick up empanadas at Lord Empanada. We've been blessed to eat at Mike's Red Tacos, Little France Coffee & Bakery, and Baba Kabob. All three lived up to Yelp's lofty distinction. Lord Empanada deserves its place as well especially with the dough that encapsulates the delicious fillings. Definitely needs to be experienced. Lord Empanada is located in Monrovia immediately after you exit on Myrtle Avenue from the 210 freeway. It's situated on the corner of Pomona Avenue and Myrtle Avenue across from Chevron and 76 gas stations. The restaurant looks deceptively small, but as you enter through the front door, it's spacious with booth seating. It's a cute restaurant with classy, wooden light fixtures; barrels for front counter support; lattice with faux vines; and mounted pictures and mementos that have significance to the Argentinian family who owns the restaurant. Parking might be a problem next to the restaurant, but there is additional parking across the street. The employees behind the counter were friendly. As we were driving on the 71 freeway, we decided to place our order of empanadas for pickup. We ordered almost $100 worth of empanadas because we were bringing some to our daughter, her boyfriend, her roommates, and one of our close friends. When I picked up our order, the empanadas came in two pizza boxes that contained the goodies and sauces. We ordered the following types of empanadas: spicy black bean, beef, spinach and cheese, birria, chicken, and apple pie. I didn't get to try the spinach and cheese, but I tried all the other flavors and loved every single one. My faves were the birria, spicy black bean, and chicken. The birria comes with beef, cheese, and consommé. The spicy black bean comes with corn, red bell pepper, and jalapeño. The chicken comes with potato and seasoning. Every empanada was filled heartily, it was tasty, and the dough was golden brown and honestly was the best component. I loved their green chimichurri sauce and the red spicy sauce to dip the empanadas in. A strong 4.5 stars and the only reason I took a half star off was because we did not get our caramel dipping sauce for the apple empanadas. With 4 of the Yelp Top 100 restaurants tried, we have 96 more to go. What I can confidently say about Yelp's list is that they are spot on with amazing restaurants that need to be experienced by all. Lord's Empanadas deserves their spot on this list and hopefully the next time I visit, I'll try the other empanadas and one of their sandwiches. read more

Small shop off of Myrtle just south of the 210 near the Wizard of Bras. Parking - it's tight...there are 7 spaces in the driveway on the side of the buildings. No ADA parking available. Just don't park in the alley and block the way for people to get in and out. Restrooms - available on the outside of the building. No ADA restrooms available. Two entrances - one in the front and one on the side that's accessible for wheelchairs. The restaurant interior is really cozy and has about 6 booths if I remember correctly. I decided on getting a dozen empanadas for $41 and tried one flavor of each empanada (except for a couple breakfast ones). I love the packaging when I received it. I was worried about trying to figure out each flavor, but I didn't need to. They arrived in a pizza box with each empanada in a bag stamped with its flavor - brilliant idea! I sampled almost every flavor I bought and have to say that of the savory ones, the black bean, soyrizo, and mushroom empanadas were my favorites! The crust was flaky and fried to perfection! All my kids said the beef was their favorite. The pizza one was a pass. All pepperoni but no cheese. And the sauces it comes with are great, especially the chimichurri one! All the sweet ones were delicious as well, I got the apple pie, NY cheesecake and pumpkin cheesecake (seasonal) although the pumpkin was a bit light in pumpkin flavor. I also got bottle of Aguas Lucas agua fresca in the Sandia y Limon flavor. Sooo refreshing! The menu also has various sandwiches, burgers, hot entrees, and desserts available for purchase. This review is solely based off the rude customer service, not the food. I was new to using an app that they partnered with. It was only my second time using it and it was a different process then the first time I used it. Anyhow, I put in my order and when I told the cashier I was using the app, she snarkley printed the receipt and tossed it. Ok, fine. I was a little confused with the process, but I did pay and showed her. I guess I wasn't supposed to push a button confirming I paid, but she said she HAD to. First off, I don't let strangers touch my phone. After that, I showed her my receipt, my Google wallet payment, and explained I was confused and it was only my second time using the app as I was still learning it. She rolled her eyes, gave me an attitude and said next time I have to show her and let her push it. This is the first time I am even trying this place and will definitely be the last. But what you may have not yet heard of or tried are fusion empanadas, like the ones sold here at Lord Empanada. I enjoyed the empanadas here. The shells were all flaky and perfectly fried, while the fillings were tender and warm. Everything tasted fresh, including their hot sauce and chimichurri which are made in-house. They have so many interesting combinations and mouthwatering choices that it was hard to decide. My favorites were the spicy blackbean, soy chorizo, and pizza empanadas, but each of them were good in their own right. They also have a few dessert empanada options like apple pie and cheesecake, but I didn't try any of those this time around. I couldn't walk away from the bread pudding though, also made in-house. It tasted more like flan than bread pudding but it wasn't bad, just different. Service was amazing and the shop is cute and clean. I've been wanting to try this since I pass by a lot, but I think it could be the location/traffic on the street that was detering me from going sooner. From my judgement, the parking lot looked very small and seemed inconvenient entering and exiting, but I was wrong. It's actually pretty easy and has enough space to get in and out. There's even a back alley to go through if the parking lot is too full or the traffic going North of Myrtle Avenue is bad. I put in my order online on Yelp and they were pretty fast getting my order ready. However, I guess I came at a weird time when I went to pick it up; the cashier was on the phone taking an order and I probably stood there for like 5-6 minutes after her phone call and she looked like she was fiddling with the phone line or something. No greeting or eye contact so far until after some guy that came after me talked to her first, then she helped me get my order, which turned out was already out on the counter before I came in. She was really nice though, and got me sauces for each empanada and put them into my box. Also really appreciate that the box had the flavors written in order.
