I'm not sure why I hadn't tried Lord Empanadas sooner, it's right in my neighborhood, and I love a good FRIED empanada! Thanks to a recent Yelp event, I finally got to try them. They were so good that I came back a few days later and ordered a dozen for a Christmas get-together. They were a huge hit! Everyone was so excited to dig in that I completely forgot to take photos! The chimichurri and spicy salsa that come with the empanadas were excellent. Our favorites were the mushroom, chicken, and breakfast bacon. Shout-out to the staff member who took my phone order and was incredibly kind and understanding when I arrived 45 minutes late for pickup. She kept the empanadas warm for me, which I truly appreciated. Parking is limited, so I parked on a nearby side street. Lord Empanadas has the best Argentine-style empanadas in the SGV, and I'll definitely be back again and again. read more

Had an opportunity to check out this place for different types of empanadas. It's a cute little deli shop with a dozen or so parking spaces. There is parking along the side street. Or see at the counter with different combinations of empanada's filling. We ordered the Birria & queso, the house special beef, which had embroiled egg and potatoes and the spicy beef. They were so good especially the Birria n queso along with the salsas and chimichuri sauce. They were so consumé dipping sauce was a bit too lite compared to other places. A hidden gem located in Monrovia and a location that can be missed because how small the restaurant is. The parking is very limited since there are only 3-4 spots but there is street parking. There are a couple of tables and I got seated immediately. I ordered the: Birra Empanada: the meat was very tender and juicy Spinach and Cheese Empanada: cheesy and was my bf's fav Pizza Empanada: tasted like a mini calzone but tasty Breakfast Empanada: tasted like a breakfast explosion in my mouth with eggs, potato and bacon. I've come here a few times and wow I love this place! The inside has a nice ambiance and they have a small lot with parking. You can also park across the street. I've only gotten take-out but the food is fresh and they have at least 6 vegetarian options which is nice. They clearly mark which empanadas are which as well. I do wish they indicated which sauce is which because I just get a bag of chimichurri, salsa, and the time I got a banh mi filling I got a sauce that was the typical egg roll sauce. I'm assuming that one was for the more asian fusion empanada. Service is fast and people are nice. My favorite is the mushroom and Swiss cheese. They seem to use fresh mushroom and it's really flavorful. I also like the spinach and chesse. My least favorite is the breakfast no meat one. It has egg and potato but for some reason it's really airy and tastes pretty dry. The banh mi one was good too. The soy chorizo and potato was mostly potato. read more

Yummy empanadas, even vegan and vegetarian (cheese) ones! These are made to order so they may take a bit longer if you don't order ahead. We ordered on the phone and they were ready about 15-20 minutes later. Parking is a bit tricky as there are some designated spaces next to the place but can be hard if already busy. Lord Empanada has been crushing it for 4 years now and I'm a huge fan of all things fried and handheld. They have a wide variety of options including some great vegetarian ones. I loved the black bean so much. Birria is wicked good too. Whatever you do, do not skip on the beef stroganoff. Didn't think an empanada shop could make some delicious pasta but I was wrong. Had a few of their dessert ones as well and it was the perfect finish to an amazing meal. They have a nice seating area in their shop with a few parking spots. Service was great as well. Been here twice (it's been hard getting here before their 7:30 pm closing time for me), and each time I've tried something different and ordered their dozen empanada deals. A single empanada is $3.95 ($3.75 when I had first drafted this review) and a dozen for $42 ($41 before). For savory, I've tried the beef (fair warning - there's olives in there =/), chicken, spinach and cheese, birria, spicy asada, al pastor, and chicken fajita. For sweet, I've ordered the apple pie and Nutella. Absolute favorites were the birria, spicy asada, spinach and cheese, and apple pie. We've also tried some of their other menu items, like the stroganoff ($20) and the gaucho burger with fries ($16), and enjoyed both of those too. For dining in, it's best to be a group of 4 or less to get a table. Otherwise, grab your food to go for home enjoyment. Parking right outside Lord Empanada is few and small, so make sure to park at the lot that's at the southwest end of Myrtle Ave and Pomona Ave. Plenty of space and spots there and a very easy minute walk to Lord Empanada! read more

I love empanadas. Oh Lord, this place is good. Lord Empanadas is located in Monrovia, CA and they made the yelp top 100 list in 2023. I think that they are definitely worth visiting! They have sweet and savory empanadas. The Apple Pie empanada with caramel sauce is a must have. But their meat empanadas with chimichurri are also a must have. Honestly, though, I must have it all. Even if you choose not to have empanadas, it's still good. I went with their choripan, which is the South American version of hot dog with chorizo and chimichurri. Guess what? It's a must have. The value is pretty fair, too and they dont skimp out on the fillings. Theyre made as theyre ordered and served hot. They also include a lot of sauces so can dunk and pour for every bite. The restaurant is small with about 4 tables and some chairs on the side for folks waiting on to-go orders. We ordered the chicken alfredo, pizza, birria, chicken and potato, spicy steak, Nutella, and apple pie. Before I get into each one, they are fried when you order them and we decided to eat at the location. They were brought out on plates and labeled. Chicken alfredo: The flavor is there! The texture on the chicken was a little different, but it was good. Pizza: Think of it as a mini calzone. Delicious! I would have liked a little marinera on the side to dip it in, but overall it was delicious. Birria: The meat was tender and well seasoned. The consume was also a nice touch, you can't have a birria anything without consume. Tons of flavor! Chicken and potato: I really enjoyed this one. The chicken was rich in flavor, and the potato was diced very small so it didn't overpower the taste or the filling. Spicy steak: The steak has tons of flavor, I didn't think it was too spicy, it was for sure missing something though. Nutella: Disclaimer, I did not taste this one, it has bananas in it and I am allergic to them. My husband said it tastes like a bananas foster. Apple Pie: This is comfort wrapped in a fluffy pillow. I will admit that I have a cat's tongue and spice is usually a "no-no" for me BUT their seasonings were spot on. My favorite was the beef empanada (well, truth is I like beef PERIOD Dot) Seasoned well and I'll bet it tasted even better when its fresh out of the fryer! We ordered a box of 12 empanadas ($42) to share amongst 6 people, which was perfect since we all ended up getting 2 each. I got the mushroom and the chicken, and it definitely surpassed my expectations. The mushroom was a crowd fav the filling was savory and garlicky! The chicken also tasted super good. The chicken was pretty soft and well-seasoned, and the potatoes also were an excellent addition. The pastry overall was flakey and had the perfect golden brown color. Porchetta Sandwich I would say is a little on the pricier side at $17, but it does come with a plate of fries. Happy three year anniversary Lord Empanada!! Still going strong and still our #1 go to spot for empanadas! They had a big celebration today which was so fun - like a family block party with our fave DJ Richi C keeping our energy going and head chef Ryan and his Dad cooking up all the deliciousness. They had their small parking lot blocked off and set up with tents and yard games like Jenga and bean bag toss. They were serving a special menu for the party too of grilled chicken, pork chili verde, sausages, rice, and it was such a feast. They also ran specials on their regular menu like $1 off all their empanadas. Obviously I couldn't leave without taking home my fave empanadas so I grabbed a dozen and made sure to try their newest flavor - the tuna melt empanada - it is fantastic!! Just like everything else we've ever tried. And when we're not in the mood for empanadas, we love their chicken pesto pasta and gaucho burger which is phenomenal. They have a small parking lot on site (like only 3-4 spaces) but there's a large parking lot across the street too.
