I went in because I was getting fumes coming through my A/C vent. Without looking Alejandro said he were convinced it was my muffler system, which they charged $1100 to repair. When I got it back I it had the same fume issue. A couple of days later I brought it back and I asked him to get in my car and check for himself. He was alarmed "That's a fuel leak, not gas fumes!" That's what I told him. And then they charged me another $400 to fix some other part that was causing that. The muffler system was fine. FUCK THEM: Too lazy to properly analyze the problem. Overcharging for an unnecessary repair. Putting me and my family in further danger while we drove around with a gas leak. No break or anything to correctly remedy the issue. If you're a Brooklyn resident with too much money and you find them charming then go ahead and risk their service. There are plenty of other shops to go to. read more

I first went to Lorenzutti Motors when I purchased a classic 1981 Mercedes roadster in 2010. I was looking for a mechanic with a top-notch reputation that I could trust for quality work at a fair price. As it turned out they are much more than that. Alejandro is a master mechanic who knows every client and their cars in detail. He is involved in every repair of every car in his care and goes out of his way to get the job done right. Repairing classic cars can be tricky and expensive because it takes time to troubleshoot antique systems without the help of out-of-print manuals and supply chains for hard-to-find parts. The expense of these repairs can quickly skyrocket because of the time and space that these jobs require. In my case, Alejandro went out of his way to make the time and space to help me keep my Mercedes roadster in mint condition and charge me much better than fair prices. He once kept my car in his shop for over six months over one winter when I wouldn't use it, his mechanics working on it little by little, in between jobs, in order to keep my costs down. I know if I had parked my Mercedes in a garage in Brooklyn for the same time that he was working on it, I would have paid three times as much in storage fees as he charged me for his work. I took my vehicle in for an alignment. I rec'd a list of items be be fixed. I declined a brake job. Alejandro then said the shop no longer works on 240s & parts for 240s are hard to obtain. I removed my vehicle from Lorenzutti Motors & will seek service at another garage. read more

There are a lot of good reviews here and the accolades might be accurate, but I came here at 5:40pm today because my transmission and check engine light acted up suddenly and I saw some guys working inside. The head mechanic was talking to another customer about his new car, etc I waited patiently and about 5:53pm I asked If he could scan my car for codes. He said "I am the only one here; all the guys left; I am just here working on my truck." No offer to leave the vehicle until morning, or any other solution. I understand it was near to business closing, but I found that response totally lacking in customer service and an outright lie. I observed the two guys who were working on vehicles leave after I got back in my car. I could have gotten angry and caused a scene, but now I know they will see this yelp review. Never ever turn down a customer because of laziness or whatever else. Thanks for nothing. I will not be recommending to anyone I know who may run into car trouble nearby. Just left a bad taste in my mouth and now I am at autozone getting it checked. read more

Who would believe it...an honest car mechanic! After 18 months of trying to figure out what was wrong with my Volvo V70 my regular garage gave me a quote of almost $2500. They fixed my air conditioner that another shop had botched up and my expert here ( Alejandro ) suggested that other things be fixed as well. I have a 2004 Volvo XC 70 and will only go to Lorenzutti. Rene is great and will never try to charge you for something you don't need. Twice I brought the car in thinking there was something major wrong and both times it was something simple. Seem to specialize in Subaru, Volvos and VWs but I've also seen Hondas, Toyotas and others there. Roberto and Alejandro will give you straight-up advice on whether something needs to be fixed or isn't worth it. They tend to be busy so sometimes it's best to show up and talk to them to schedule, etc. Also, it's a family run business and they usually close up for two week vacation in August and then around New Year's. (My only complaint is no answering machine/message to let you know when they're returning.) read more

I have been looking for trustworthy mechanic to work on my 2000 Volvo s40 and after some research decided to try Lorenzutti Motors because of the ratings. I am glad I did-- I showed up at 8am without an appointment and my car was ready by noon. I was given a lot of information and suggestions for work and felt the price I paid and the prices suggested for the future work I need were more than fair! I also liked that as the patrons arrived to drop off or pick up cars most of them (about 80%) were Volvo owners... These people seem professional, and seem to know their Volvos! I came to Lorenzutti with what I now know to be CV joint and ball joint problems in my Honda Accord (had to get it fixed elsewhere). However, at the time all I knew was that I would hear this roaring sound when driving at highway speeds. I suspected it had something to do with the rear wheels somewhere, as that's where the noise would come from. Anyway, I described the sound and my suspicion to the mechanic and he said that he would take it for a drive and get back to me with a diagnosis and quote. After not hearing from them all day, I called them, and their diagnosis was that the tires had hardened and should be replaced soon. Oh, and they went ahead and changed the oil without my authorization, charging $115 for the work and time spent. Maybe it just happened to be an off day, and the guy felt lazy. Or maybe they are so busy and disorganized that they just wanted to get rid of me without doing much work. But even if they do good mechanical work as claimed in other reviews, they seem to be so busy that they can't really take the time to do a full diagnosis-- not in my case anyway. Unless you know exactly what you need done to your car, I would avoid this place. read more

I was told that it was the front suspension by another garage but they located the true problem in a few minutes. Mazda 3 was making noise. Diagnosed as something loose underneath. Put it up on hydraulics and tightened it while I waited. Had a pretty awful experience here involving Lorenzutti and my insurance company. Roberto, the owner, did not communicate well regarding a rack and pinion replacement. He went ahead and did the job at significant cost after he simply told me the insurance company "authorized" him -- without telling me that I would be liable for half the bill! When I tried to ask for details he was evasive. Afterwards, upon presenting me with the the whole bill and telling me I would have to recoup whatever I could from my insurance company, he told me that that was "my problem." I disputed this, and Roberto got very nasty and vindictive. He started insulting me and he wouldn't let me take my car. He then claimed he would change the bill so the insurance would pay as little as possible -- in order to cost me the max. I would recommend staying as far away from these guys as possible -- not only are they opportunistic, but they play games, too. read more

I have gone to Lorenzutti for 20 years. They are the best. 100% honest. They do great work and never replace unless necessary. I have a very old car which requires more service, but they always give great advice. I highly recommend using them. These guys are really honest. To make a long story short, he tested my car battery (which had died) and re-carged the battery for a nominal fee. A full replacement of the battery would have been a lot more money, and he was honest to tell me that the battery did not need to be fully replaced, but just charged. He threw in some other adjustments that were necessary as well. Totally nice guy. Really fast service, too. I strongly recommend!!! read more

They cared for my '91 Volvo for years and now service my Subaru Forester. The only (small) problem is that they continue to be very busy, so getting them on the phone can be tough. We have been taking our cars to Lorenzutti for 25 years. Roberto Lorenzutti is not only an incredibly good mechanic, but he is one of the most honest and caring businessmen I have ever dealt with. Many times we have brought a car in thinking the worst and he's fixed something simple and inexpensive - and if we'd gone elsewhere, we'd have been scammed because we know zero about cars. The latest thing he did for us was when Honda did not want to replace a faulty transmission that was less than a year old with just 10,000 miles on it, Roberto personally went to the dealership and waited for hours to plead our case. He also uninstalled and reinstalled the faulty transmission at the dealer's insistence, and then installed a new transmission and only charged us for one installation. AND he also cleaned our car top to bottom and repaired a few dents and dings so that the dealer wouldn't use the condition of our old beat-up car as an excuse for not honoring the warranty. Bottom line: Lorenzutti is my hero, an angel, that rare local businessman who is not only brilliant at his chosen field but is unbelievably loyal, generous and committed to providing the best service possible to his customers. I can't say enough good stuff about this guy and his business. The only bad thing is - they are so busy that you often have to wait a long tie to get an appointment. It's worth the wait! (AND PS the Honda dealer on Nostrand who held our car hostage for 6 weeks while they dithered about whether to replace the faulty transmission - well, those guys totally suck... the bums!... but that was not Lorenzutti's fault - he fought them tooth and nail on our behalf! ) read more
