This has quickly become one of my go-to spots for great food, and even better drinks. The drinks always hit. Seriously, one frozen Texas drink will get you right! They don't skimp on flavor or strength. The food is always flavorful, and the atmosphere is laid back but lively. My go to's are their empanadas, egg rolls, birria tacos, and a modified TexMex. But, I've been trying other items on the menu and the food is still bomb. Anytime i visit, the staff is friendly, attentive, and go above and beyond to make sure I'm having a good time. Last Friday night my wife and I ate dinner at Los Abuelos Johns Creek and were treated to a wonderful meal and fantastic service. I ordered the Texas fajitas and have to say they were the best I have had in 12 years of living in the area. Finally we found a Mexican restaurant with a real grill that they use and the results that showed it . The serving plate was a perfect size for me and the proteins (beef, shrimp and chicken) cooked to perfection. My wife had chicken enchiladas and they were delicious as well! Sides of beans and rice were standard fare but had great flavor. Here I want to highlight the wonderful service we had from Danna for the meal, and May for drinks later in the evening! Professional, attentive, and friendly, we could not have been better served! Hats off to them and to Tito Gonzalez, the Managing Partner, for giving us a fabulous Friday date night! Good, quick service, yummy food & a wide variety of margaritas! The drinks are a little pricey & didn't seem too strong. We ordered table side chunky guacamole & received creamy guac & we asked our server about it & apparently their avocados weren't ripe enough for it so that was disappointing. Los Abuelos is a great spot if you're in the mood for Mexican. The Restaurant is located on the corner of Medlock Bridge and State Bridge in the Medlock Crossing shopping plaza. The interior is lovely and fully immerses you in the restaurants theme. The restaurant does offer their own parking spaces for the location, but it can get pretty full with how busy this place can get at times. The workers are all very friendly and in my experience always check in to see if their guests need anything. My husband and I have been going for years since we've moved to the area and recently found that this place has 4 different locations in GA. On this visit we ordered a cheese dip to start - always a good choice. You are able to order this with jalapeños on top or not if that is your preference. I ordered Birria Tacos, and let me say that I will be back for these. I love Birria Tacos but have yet to find a place in the past where they aren't served as if they are lying in oil. Here that is NOT the case. You get all of the flavor in every bite and it IS flavorful! My husband got the Ay Way Burrito and said it was very good. Our Community decided on this location for an outing. It's not your typical hole-in-the wall Mexican restaurant (which I love most) and is a stand alone location. They do have the capacity to seat large groups, which was ideal for us, and tables for those that have wheelchairs. The chip's and salsa were decent. Service was great. I had the quesadillas, which didn't knock my socks off, but they were huge portions. Typical cantina style place with a large bar, for those that care. This place is just amazing. This is our only go to spot in Johns Creek . We come here weekly and all the kids eat properly and gluten-free is very easy. The staff is well seasoned and they know how to take care of customers. The food is some of the best we've had and we opted to eat Mexican food. You will not be disappointed. We have eaten here twice now and both times the service has been impeccable. The servers are friendly and attentive. The music and ambiance is very casual, the only thing I didn't care for this second time is the perpetual fly by the window. The food arrives warm and it is delicious. I really enjoy their rice and beans. I liked their Diablo Shrimp, spicy and my DH had the enchiladas. He said he wished they had distributed the indigents better as all the meat was on one side. We have been a regulars since it opened; however the last few times have been disappointing! Frequently when we ask about certain ingredients being present in dishes each server gives us different answers. This last time 3 of our orders out of 4 were incorrect. We only sent back 1 to be corrected as we did not want to waste all that food. And the server told us she will not charge us for it!!!! The receipt showed the order correctly so kitchen made it wrong. For a Saturday night it was only half full and before you would have a wait. So clearly something has changed and ppl are noticing. There is a lot of competition nearby and one just across the street so not sure we will go back. read more

Loved it! Party of 4 walked in right before closing, 9:28. We ordered immediately. Between the 4 of us we ordered combo fajitas (chicken, shrimp and steak), steak tacos, chicken enchiladas and regular meat and cheese soft tacos for the youngster in the party. House margaritas and Tito's. Everything was perfect! The food came out within a few minutes of ordering. The only not so great thing was my fajita has scraps of steak and chicken in it, instead of full pieces. I'm sure it's because they were closing. So no real complaints. New mexican place in Johns creek. Located in the regal movie complex with plenty of parking and other stores around. We dined in on a busy friday (generally no wait). The chips and salsa came right away. They also offered more chips and salsa (both freshly made). The food came out faily quickly and tasted good. We tried the chicken enchilladas and flautas. The enchillada could use more salsa verde on it . Overall good food and huge quantity! About the same prices. Not bad at all for the quantity. Great customer serive both the waitress and other staff! This place has been consistent since it opened. We have been loyal patrons due to the entire experience everyone being great. Most Mexican restaurants seem to use the same ingredients same food basically. Los Abuelos does not!! Or if they do (I'm pretty sure they don't) they put much more care / Love into their process as their food processors as their food is ALWAYS much better than the average Mexican restaurant. And it wasn't an accent thing at all. He barely had one and his English was perfect. Just more nervous seeming which was odd. Our piña coladas, we got carded for them but yet zero alcohol. I'm seriously talking zero. I'm extremely light weight with drinks since I barely ever have alcohol so I can taste the slightest % and nada. My main dish came out way too quickly. I'd like to think the most people generally like to enjoy the apps, talk and chill. The food was decent for what seemed like a chain type restaurant. We had beef empanadas which had cheese in them and the coconut shrimp. Overall, we weren't expecting a chain style restaurant with Red Lobster appetizers and feel. Went for lunch on a Monday. It wasn't crowded at all. Sat US immediately. We both ordered lunch chicken fajitas and small margaritas. Food took about 10-15 minutes to come out. Drinks came in a cute little glass. My passion fruit margarita was good however it just tasted sweet I actually think they may have given me a virgin margarita. I didn't taste or feel like I had alcohol and I'm an occasional drinker so I know I would feel it. The food was really good. The chicken was hot came out sizzling' tender and juicy. It also came with all the fixin's peppers, onions, rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream. They also have a house made hot sauce which was extremely spicy. We have visited Los Abuelos at least four times during the lunchtime hours and every visit has been highly satisfactory. Their chips are light and crunchy. Some of the best chips in the area! Salsa is worthy, they have spicier hot sauces if that's your thing. We've tried numerous entrées and been quite pleased with all of them. Their chicken tortilla soup is great on a cold and windy day, sometimes we pair it with a basic order of nachos. We generally sit at the bar where you will find several different sports games playing on televisions if that's your thing. The service is usually good there, unless they are shorthanded. There have been numerous businesses in this building over the years and none of them have received reviews that have made me want to visit except for this one. This building first opened as one of as part of a chain of venerable metro Atlanta Mexican restaurants called Rio Bravo. That chain was known for their high-quality food and fun atmosphere (they were acquired by Chili's and mismanaged into oblivion unfortunately.) Los Abuelos provides the same high quality food and is the first worthy restaurant in this location since Rio Bravo. There is plenty of parking as this building is part of a large lot that accommodates a shopping center and another restaurants. read more

Last week we stopped in to grab lunch. Our bar drinks were good BUT the food was Blah. The chips were super greasy and the salsa tasted like canned tomato sauce. I ordered a chicken burrito and literally all I tasted was tortilla flavor. My husband didn't like his dish either. The service was good but that's not enough for us to go back. Great Location, Friendly Staff, Decent Food. However, the authenticity and quality of some of the dishes, is a little lacking or the quality of some of the items are questionable. Such as the charro beans looks like it came out of a can and they added some stuff to it. Salsa verde looks strait from a jar. The rice portion is kind of comical, they plated it nicely in a cup but its like 3 spoons of rice. The staff was hispanic but are the owners and chefs hispanic? Im confused because I dont think some of the items would fly by some abuelos' standards. Im not even sure if the workers would eat here on their off days. I understand for the demographics they cant be too authentic especially for the spice levels but they cut too many corners for it to be a great restaurant. I belive alot of the items could of been precooked or made instead of doing things from scratch like the beans or tortillas. They do try to be accomodating have have a variety of fusion foods. Its a good convenient restaurant but i wouldnt drive out of my way to eat here. The empanadas looked great tho and had nice crimping and the tilapia was super fresh and crisp. The tacos were decent the meat was very tender just lacked some seasoning. We went there for dinner on a Friday night. Great atmosphere, great service and great food! Very open, full of light and lively. Crowded with couples, families and small and and large groups, but the staff handled it well. Chips and salsa came out quick, tasted great and they keep us refilled. They were right on top of taking our appetizer and drink orders and everything came out promptly. Food was delivered quickly and fresh. Chips and salsa replenished without delay. We had the chicken fajitas for two. Chicken was of high quality and the onions, bell peppers were all seasoned just right.
