On my move back to CA, I found this little gem. I had the Chile Relleno and Cheese Enchilada combo. My wife had the Carne Asada nachos. The food was exceptional, with a slight kick. The rice is the no extras kind, meaning no corn, peas, or onions. I liked the rice. The enchilada sauce had a slight jalapeño kick, but exceptional flavor. I loved the Chili Relleno. It was just what I ordered. The carne asada was well prepared and seasoned. This little gem in Flagstaff had carrots and jalapeños. Yum! If you are looking for real Mexican food check this place out. I was told about this place from a friend and it came highly recommended. I ordered the steak breakfast burrito and there was so little steak in there that it's more accurate to say it's an egg, cheese and potato breakfast burrito that was placed near meat. Seriously - probably only 10-15 little pieces. I want to reinforce the word "little". Anyway, I'll go back to try something else and then update this review, but if the steak breakfast burrito is any indicator of their food it'll only be one more visit. read more

The food is tasty, the staff is friendly and patient, the portions were enough for the menudo and the torta, however, the gordita is VERY SMALL...and priced like a regular plate. That's why I'm taking off one star, I wish the restroom area were more clean. Stopped here on my way to New Mexico and was pleasantly surprised with the food. Despite a busy service they were all super attentive with every order. The food was amazing and truly authentic from other places I have had. The prices are also really great and affordable. Came in because of star rating but I should have read the reviews. The food was, to put it nicely, not great. I've had real Mexican food and loved it so this review is definitely not because I just don't like Mexican food. I got the Carne asada plate and the steak was thin, overcooked, very lightly salted but otherwise tasteless, and tough to eat. The guac was... Not guac. It was maybe some green salsa with a hint of guac which I had to get from the salad bar. The plate came with two thin slices of grilled beef, seasoned rice which also did not taste great, shredded lettuce, a single slice of tomato, refried beans (the best part of the whole meal) sprinkled with some shredded cheese on top, and a choice of wheat or corn tortilla. My fiance got the chicken gordita. It came with three which were all generously stuffed but the chicken tasted like it was just boiled and shredded with no seasoning whatsoever. Food presentation in general was just OK, plain and almost like how you'd serve out at home. The cashier was very nice and was very patient with explaining different things from the menu and taking our orders. She brought our food out within a reasonable amount of time and was great with greeting other guests or saying bye to leaving ones. The dining area seemed simple but clean. Maybe we caught the chef on a bad day but it seems like other reviewers have experienced the same thing. Maybe other items on their menu are better, I wouldn't know but it's honestly not a place I would ever go back to again unless it was the only place left open nearby and I really didn't feel like cooking. read more

I wasn't planning to review this restaurant. In fact I'd prefer nothing more than to forget the meal I had here ever happened. But Yelp sent me a "would like you to write a review of...?" email about this place I'm thinking, 'okay, I should probably warn other people so they aren't as disappointed'. In a nutshell, nothing here had any flavor. The one exception being the horchata. But the beans, the meat, the rice all incredibly bland. They don't even offer guacamole. If you ask for it, you'll get a green salsa that has the thinnest hint of guac. Sour cream, an additional charge as well, as pretty bland. Everyone in our party of three agreed this was the worst meal of our trip, and another meal led to a bout of food poisoning! It is cheap though. So if you want just straight up calories, maybe check this place out. read more

This place is so good! It's local and locals come here. While we were staying overnight we came here for a bite before we left back home. My husband said the beans were like his mom made and they were so good. He had the Huevos Rancheros and I had the gorditas with el pastor... so good. The salsas you can get are really tastiest and not to hot, per my husband I had the green and mild and so good. While visiting the Flagstaff area, my boyfriend and I were really craving tacos. After a quick search on Yelp, we found this place only about half a mile from where we were staying. This restaurant offers your typical staples like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. When we called to place our to-go order, we were surprised to find that they had "regular" or "mini" tacos. The gal told me that the mini tacos were the size equivalent to your average street taco. We opted for those - al pastor and carne asada and chips and salsa. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we found they have a serve-yourself salsa bar, which was pretty cool. This way you can take as little or as much salsa as you'd like with your meal. The two gals working there were really friendly and patient with us when we added a last minute order of rice and beans. When we left with our food, we realized they forgot our chips. We ran back in and they were super apologetic, which we appreciated. The food was good. He got the al pastor, while I got the carne asada mini tacos. Both were tasty and well portioned. The salsas were a bit lackluster. The mild salsa was pretty runny. Same for their guacamole. I didn't really consider it "guacamole" as it was very thin and runny, not like the chunky or creamy kind you get elsewhere. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't guacamole in my eyes. Straight-up insanity... I've been dreaming about this place since we left. I have never in my life had such amazing Mexican food, and who knew I'd find it in Flagstaff?! While on a two-week vacation, my hubs and I were driving up from Phoenix to the South Rim before hitting southern California. As we drove through Flagstaff, we decided that we were starving, saw this place and stopped. From the outside, it's not very impressive, but we were so hungry we didn't care. Once inside, still not insanely impressive, but clean, so whatever. I ordered the TexMex Platter, and my husband ordered the beef chimichanga. We sat and waited, and our food was brought out. The first bite of mine was like a flavor explosion! I don't think white girls are supposed to eat food that tasty. I almost fell out of my chair. I then tasted my husbands, and practically shrieked! His food especially was the most delicious thing I have ever had the pleasure of ingesting. I'm horribly upset that we do not live near this place, but happy at the same time because if we did I'd weight 400, easily. GOOD JOB, LOS ALTENOS! I absolutely love Mexican food, and I am always trying new places to eat, so for me to give this place 5-stars really means something. I really couldn't have been happier after trying this place. I cannot think of one thing that disappointed me. We ordered two 3-tacos + rice & beans combos, and an egg, potato and cheese burrito. Everything was really good. I know beans and rice are about as basic as they get, but even they were really good, which is not always the case at some Mexican food places. My 2 favorite parts about this place: the price & the salsa bar. The salsa bar was tiny and tucked in a corned, but it was loaded with great options, which, surprisingly, is actually somewhat uncommon. We came on a day they were having a $4.99 special on their combo mentioned above, and the breakfast burrito was like $2.75 and huge. I'm very happy I discovered this place through Yelp, and I have every intention of returning next time i'm up in Flagstaff. read more

The Yelp reviews are killing me. This was my second eatery stop of the day. The sign on the outside reads "Real Mexican food" and it is so far from the truth. Upon entering I walked up to the counter stood in front of the young woman at the cashier who just stared at me. No greeting, nothing. Nada. I thought for a minute she was blind so I said, "Hello." Still not a word till I began placing my order. So strange. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and a side of one hard-shelled beef taco. Let's just say I am thankful for the Tapatio sauce and jalapeno peppers because I had to kill my plate with them to get any flavor. The sauce was tasteless. Not a speck of red chile taste. The rice and beans were bland. The beef inside the taco seemed old. The only bonus here was the complimentary guacamole sauce at the salsa bar which everyone seemed to love because they had to refill. All the other sauces at the salsa bar were very watered down. I love this restaurant, maybe because it's right in front of my apartment complex, or maybe because it's right next to Cab Comics where I hang out a lot, but the location factors in for me quite a bit. The food is great, I absolutely love the fish tacos and something about the bean and cheese "chimi" just warms my heart. I haven't tried a whole lot else yet but with such a low price-point on most things I'm excited to test the rest of the menu. If you're into Mexican food and not too big on dropping a ton of money on it this is absolutely the place to go. I will say that my roommate seems to be a Mexican food snob and thinks that the food doesn't meet his standards, but I'd put it on par with a "berto's" any day. read more

Delicioso! My roommate and I was really hungry and didn't want to cook today. So we went out to look for a Mexican restaurant since it's so close to our place. We found this restaurant because we were attracted by the poster with the meal plates. I thought the menu was interesting with all these type of plates. We don't know much Spanish even if I'm taking Spanish 101 now. Haha~ But I got the Mujjar ( I think that's how it's spelled, it's the plate with the fish) and my roommate got the mix combo which had steak. We both agree that the meal was DELICIOSO! They provided us with chips and we got to get the salsa and the salsa bar. I was addicted to the chips again. It's soo good. I got almost full from the chips before I can eat my plate I ordered. But the meal came pretty quick. It included beans, rice, and a side with salad. They also had tortilla wraps included (corn or flour). I would prefer the flour tortilla wrap because I didn't like the corn one. We were pretty full half way so we asked to get a box so we can take it home. The service was pretty good. The lady would come up to ask us if we needed anything. She was pretty nice. The price is reasonable. It's around $5- $8. Enough food to make you full. I would love to come here again and maybe order something different. Probably dragging our other roommates with us too! read more

I had the machaca and beans for breakfast. They have several salsas to choose from . . . they're pretty watered down but flavorful. The staff are all very friendly and the food is delivered quickly. Loads of really good refried beans and rice, a bunch of shredded lettuce and tomatoes, and salsas of my choice. It was reasonably priced, the place was clean and service was swift. The bride had cheese enchiladas, said there was lots of sauce, but she cleaned her plate. The red chili sauce is different than the Texas chili sauce she is used to but, again, she ate it up. And she is a bit on the picky side, so I took that as a good sign. Will return gladly. read more
