I've seen a few ads on Instagram for Vallarta Prime and a few friends have recommended them. We finally had a chance to give them a try after the Benson Boone concert was postponed at Golden 1 Center. Parking is pretty easy to find in their relatively large parking lot. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for indoors since it was still a little warm. We were seated promptly and placed our orders a few minutes later. Our youngest had the children's cheese quesadilla meal and our oldest had the children's shrimp taco plate. My wife had the carnitas plate with a strawberry margarita. I opted for the asada and ribeye tacos. The tacos are served on homemade corn tortillas which were delightful. The meats are grilled over mesquite which reminded us of Tacos Los Chulos in Anaheim which we love. The chips and salsa were great. Service was attentive and prompt. The tacos were excellent and they weren't cheap with the meat portions which I appreciate. I hate skimpy tacos. The rice was great. The beans were okay; they were the only thing that didn't wow us. Pleasantly surprised. Didn't know I would have the best ceviche in sac tonight. I didn't really read the description of the ceviche mixta and was surprised to see octopus. Do I like octopus? No. Was I gonna try it anyway? Yes. And I'm glad I did! The ceviche was delicious and fresh- octopus wasn't chewy at all, big shrimp, and everything else was perfectly seasoned. So good that I would order it again and I guess I can now say that I like octopus. We also ordered the quesabirria- bf thought it was ok but I'm not a big fan of them, carnitas plate- loved the handmade tortillas and carnitas were delicious and a fair serving size and overall would also order this again, and a fish taco- once again, didn't read and didn't realize it had a cheese skirt. I would prefer it without the cheese skirt. I liked the idea of bringing out chips and salsa for the table when you order but I wasn't a fan of the chips. Pros: would come back for the ceviche and the carnitas plates and to try other stuff. The decorations are on point- I forgot I was in Sacramento for a bit and felt like I was at a beach club. Cons: we asked for water and they never brought it out and we overheard the table next to us ask for stuff multiple times as well. We celebrated a family birthday at Vallarta Prime with around 30 family members, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome and took amazing care of our entire group. Hosting a party that size isn't easy, but everything ran so smoothly thanks to their incredible customer service. We reserved the outdoor patio, and it was the perfect setting for our celebration. It gave everyone plenty of space to relax, laugh, and enjoy time together. I ordered the Prime Rib Aguachile and the Seafood Tower, and both were absolutely phenomenal. The seafood was incredibly fresh, the flavors were outstanding, and every bite was worth it. You can tell they take pride in the quality of their food. Our entire family had such a wonderful time, and so many of our guests commented on how delicious the food was and how attentive the staff were. They truly helped make my loved one's birthday feel special and stress-free. Thank you, Vallarta Prime, for making such an important family celebration so memorable. We've been driving by Vallarta Prime for months, watching the progress on the construction, and today's the day that we went to the finished project. There is ample patio seating, and a small dining area inside. The overall ambiance is very comfortable. Our server was attentive and friendly. We both ordered the Mexican Torta with carnitas. Shoutout to social media for putting this spot on my radar. One post mentioned they had limited indoor seating, and they definitely weren't lying. Give them some grace, especially since they recently opened. They're still working through the logistics of seating guests, taking orders, serving drinks, and refining the customer experience. It felt a little chaotic, but in a good way. They'll find their groove, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more of their dinner entrees. Table of 4 came on a Friday around 5:30 p.m. and were able to snag one of the four booths inside pretty quickly. There are only four booths, so I can only imagine how challenging outdoor dining can be without much shade esp with Sac summers. The place was packed, so I definitely felt for some of the other patrons, no shade and had to wait quite a bit for their food. The menu is extensive, with plenty of options to choose from. I decided to make it taco night. Surf & Turf - 6/10 I appreciated that it came with three tacos and plenty of protein, but the flavor was lacking for me. The meat was a bit dry, and while they provide lime and sauces, neither really elevated the dish. Ribeye Taco - 8/10 They're definitely not shy with the protein. The fresh cilantro, onion, and guacamole paired nicely with the ribeye, making each bite flavorful and juicy. Taco Gobernador - 6/10 Another generous portion. I went with the shrimp, which tasted fresh and was cut into bite-sized pieces with a light batter (at least I think it was battered lol). There was a little too much cabbage for my liking, but it added some nice texture and volume. The sauce was solid too. Octopus Taco - 7/10 I'm a sucker for seafood, and this one delivered. My only complaint is that I wanted more filling, but that's probably just me being greedy. Churros - 8/10 These were definitely on the denser, doughier side. Not overly sweet, which I appreciated, but I do wish they offered ice cream or a dipping sauce to take them up a notch. Aguachiles - 10/10 This was my friend's order, so I only got a few bites. Wow. Packed with flavor and freshness. Just be warned--it brings some heat. Raw shrimp, mango, and a punchy marinade. What more do you need? The lime margaritas were refreshing. I had two. Enough said. Biggest disappointment: the chips and salsa. The chips were dry, lightly salted, and tasted a bit stale. The salsas were... questionable. I wasn't a fan of any of them. This location has not done well since Ford burgers left, but I know all of that is about to change dramatically! Vallarta Prime has done a fantastic job remodeling the small restaurant directly across from William Land Park. While there only a few tables inside, there are so many tables outside all with the view of the park and the beautiful Sacramento sunny weather will make this patio a delightful Sacramento dining destination. They do have awnings coming, but Sac City's permits department is slow. This restaurant has only been open for two days and they'll open again next weekend and then plan to be open throughout the week after that. The menu is super large and ambitious. They do not really have the space at this small location to keep all of the seafood like don't crab legs, so super sad to report that unfortunately my favorite dish, the seafood molcajete not be on the menu, but they do have many other seafood selections. Today we went for an early lunch and we were lucky enough to get it inside seat because it's the first hot day in Sac in months. We ordered the three fish Tacos, standard street style and the Surf and Turf crispy taco set. The surf and turf has all three steak, birria and shrimp combined in each of the three tacos they taco shells were not as crunchy as I had hoped, but the over all flavor and the cheese made them absolutely delicious. Much like prior Yelp reviewers, we really did not like the salsas. They seemed to lack flavor. But that won't stop us from coming back to Vallarta Prime Restaurant; We'll just be bringing our own bottle of hot sauce. Tacos and other meals, come with chips and salsa chips are re-billable. They have Pepsi products on fountain and those are also refillable. They have bottled beers, including a Modelo Negra and they make fancy Micheladas. I can't wait to come back and try the Piña la Loca, the Seafood Tower and the Piňa Nietos crunchy tacos, all items that people dining were raving about. Since they just opened they were a little bit slow on the service but checked in often and Julio the owners/manager is the nicest guy ever! Apparently a TikTok video went viral and made them super busy - which probably impacted the food and service in a negative way. The parking lot is small and we ended up parking on the street. They were very busy and understaffed. The waiter kept apologizing (and blaming it on their manager lol) but I probably won't be back. Have high hopes for this restaurant. The staff is very nice. We ordered at the counter, a total of five street tacos. We ordered a margarita and a michelada as well. After that....I'm not sure what happened. It was quite a chaotic mess of people ordering at the counter and people ordering at tables. We sat after ordering and had a number but continued to sit while multiple servers came to ask what our order was---along with the ten or so other tables outside. One by one a single taco would come outside and the server would search for a ticket number and then ask each individual table if they ordered a certain type of taco. Many people had ordered said taco style, so it was up to us to figure who was first. Some tables still sat without having been waited on. As the line inside grew longer so did the wait time for food. Each table surrounding us was asked multiple times about their orders and each time each table recounted their order. Still the tables without ordering stayed waiting. Finally we got two of our five tacos. No utensils, no extra plate. No chips or salsa. No drinks. We again repeated to our server for maybe the fourth time what our order had been (though we did have a number on the table). Then the margarita came. Then we sat waiting. Then chips and salsa. Then we had to tell another server again our order. Then we got chips and salsa. Then we waited. Then we were told they did not have our order in the system, could we tell them again, and so we did tell them the three missing tacos we had and that we hadn't received the Michelada. The Michelada finally came. Then two of the three missing tacos. Finally the missing taco. Total time in the building 1 hour and 30 minutes for five small street tacos and two drinks. Cost of food was very affordable and staff was VERY nice. I want this place to succeed but would recommend seeking a GM or someone who can counsel on how to make the business run smooth. Perhaps just people order at the counter where they are given their drinks, chips, and a number and then sit and food to come. Maybe divide kitchen into fried food cook and fresh food cook and do full tickets so that all food comes together and not one taco at a time. We ate here on opening night and loved it so much, we came back two days later and brought our dad. The octopus taco is a standout item. The shrimp taco was delicious too - the crunch of the cabbage and the light spice of the chipotle sauce perfectly complemented the shrimp.
