Oh, boy. This place is as Tejano as a case of lutefisk, which is to say, yes, all the employees and beer might be Tejano, but the food is .. pure Blanco. I just stopped in for some queso and chips and a Modelo. Things got weird fast, even before the food. So, I order the queso, which is made with white American, Jack, poblano and jalapeño. WTH? Yes, queso &chips WERE invented by a Tejano chef in the 60's when asked to make a light snack for a ladies' club that would "taste Mexican." So, he sautéed some onions, tomatoes, and jalapeños, made a thickened sauce with cheddar and called it "nachos." Big hit, but this is nothing like that. The sharpness of cheddar, the contrast of tomato, the heat of jalapeño... all MIA in this off-white fondue. But it gets weirder. The tips page gives you the option of 3, 5, and 7%. Yes, I'm not kidding. This might be the only Texas part, as the owners must think their employees are dirt, which is indeed quite Texan. I did a small tip of 20% using the custom tip field, but I doubt the poor people working here will see much in tips if they don't fix what has to be the lowest tip menu in Portland, and when $15/hr is barely enough to share rent with 4 roommates. I will not go back unless they reply that they will fix their recipes and treat their employees more fairly. read more

Los Burros Supremos was delicious and flavorful. Their flour tortillas were thin, but not too thin to not hold the burrito together. They make the burrito then grill it which makes it nice and crispy on the outside. We got a number 1 La Mission Suprema with carnitas and a number 6 the Nacho ordinary burrito. I liked the number 6 the most but Nachos has to be your thing. Both came with 3 salsas that, in my option, were not spicy. The green on was my favorite one. We also got 2 elotes(corns) smothered with Mayo, parm cheese, and tajin. They were on point too. We also got my niece plain asada tacos and she ate 3 of them, which says something because she's a picky eater. The burritos were decently priced for what you got, same for the taco. The elotes were overpriced for what I've gotten at other places before. The customer service was helpful and friendly. They also have a self ordering kiosk if you're an introvert and don't want to chat. Some cons: parking can be rather difficult to find, depending on when you decide to go. Another one was the building was pretty toasty warm. We went during the peak of the heat and the sun was shining directly in. Don't get me wrong it made it look more beautiful in there but it was HOT. LOL. No matter the cons, we will be back. One of the tastiest burritos I've had in the metro area. read more

Finally! Decent Mexican food (okay burritos) in downtown Portland. We had the bean & cheese and huevos burritos. Both were delicious! Also shared the chips and guacamole. The guacamole was fresh and simple. The eggs were tender and the potatoes were creamy in my huevos burrito. There was a nice cheese pull and the red/orange salsa added a nice heat. I also had the horchata, it tasted liked drinking the milk after Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal sat in the bowl...not a fan. But wasn't grainy. Well, this place had all that (thankfully no health fee), but how they differ is that the final product actually satisfied. The #3 with Poblano was very good. Breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches are my most reviewed category and what usually takes one to the next level are crisp potatoes (even tots work.) Here, the potatoes are not a simple afterthought. Another differentiator is that the scrambled egg curds are small; nothing worse than big pieces with any hint of brown char. Opt for their crema and the eggs deliciously ooze out. I was the first in line on a weekday and there was still a 20-minute wait. So ordering online seems to be the optimal way. The counter person was very pleasant. The picture doesn't do it justice, but that's the best you get from an eating in the car experience. There are no tables. read more

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while now and glad that they are downtown, making it easier to get to during lunch. We ordered a couple of items to share: La Mission Suprema, Breakfast Burrito with Chorizo, and Tejano Style Queso. The Mission Burrito was nice in size and packed with carbs. It was good, but a bit dry, and need a little more sauce (in my opinion). The Chorizo Breakfast Burrito was delicious and definitely worth getting again. The queso was nice and flavorful. Best burrito I've have in Portland so far, and I've tried many! I had the "a huevo" burrito for breakfast, (originally wanted to try the burrito with chilaquiles but it was sold out). It's the perfect ratio of eggs, potatoes, and chorizo ( chorizo had great flavor!), and poblano. It was the right portion, other burritos are too big and overstuffed. I also tried the horchata, and it was delicious! Sweet and refreshing at the same time, reminded me of the aguas frescas from Oaxaca. Overall well seasoned food (other places seem to be afraid of salt for some reason), right portion, and the extra offerings are tasty also. We went on the second day that the brick and mortar location opened. Loved the food and I have been thinking about it since. We are both from Mexican American families in Southern California and I ordered the El Norteño burritos. Their size made me nostalgic for my early years because their size is what we would eat in SoCal. Despite that, like others have said the prices are surprisingly hefty ($17 plus 10% mandatory gratuity...despite zero service happening) and the burritos are small. My partner and I were both hungry and annoyed after eating our burritos. Using quality ingredients isn't an excuse since there was barely any meat in the burritos and other than that, just beans with a bit of cheese. Two stars because the burritos arn't awful but definitely not as good as los Gordita's and Sayhuayo Taqueria. I'd pick any food truck around before coming back and maybe even Taco Bell. read more

I really enjoyed this place! I noticed a few weeks ago that they opened up in this location, and this evening I finally gave it a try. I walked in and the women at the register was super helpful and nice. She immediately told me that I came in on the perfect day since they have readjusted their menu prices, so I of course was excited about that. I ordered the La Mission Suprema with chicken and also a bean a cheese burrito. At New Mexican restaurants I try, I always like to try a few burritos to see how they are (plus, I was starving too!). I asked about their cheese sauce and she told me it's best to have it on the side, which was a good tip. I signed up for their rewards program which was great and they were super nice checking me out. I only waited less than 10 min and the food was ready. I got home to eat it and it did not disappoint! The burritos were grilled a bit and the ingredients in each burrito were amazing. She even gave me all of their hot sauces and was honest when I asked her how hot it was and she said probably a 7/10 - so it was for sure good! I never like hot sauce to be too spicy (I can handle the heat though!) so this was a good amount. I will for sure be coming back to this place for food going forward and even told her next time, I'm excited to try their breakfast burrito on the menu! I think what's cool to see is how a lot of the reviews on this restaraunt were based on their high prices (and in this day and age, it's worth noting even being in downtown Portland!), and this establishment took the time to respond to reviews and most importantly, change the prices! Kudos and cheers to them for wanting to make this change. I promise, it will go a long way for them for sure! I would absolutely put this Restaurant OVER Mayas Taqueria right down the street. Honestly, the hype is right. This place isn't that good for the food and the price. I hate to write a bad review but it's just missing the mark on so many different levels. The Agua De Jamaica had literally zero flavor. It was just colored water. The spicy Guajillo and Mexican chocolate cookie had no discernible spice but was good for a chocolate cookie. As for the burritos, they were alright but not $12-$17 dollars good. If you are gonna charge that much and up charge for guacamole at least spread it out, lots of stuff was pooled onto one end. My partner thought they forgot the Guacamole but it was all on the very bottom. The Tejano style queso was ok and I am not sure if it's intended to be that thin but you couldn't really get much on a chip when dipping since it was so liquidey. Then like a week or two later I saw a charge on my credit card and I was like "Woodsman Tavern"?!?!? What the heck? Bumping from 1 to 3 stars as at least the last couple of visits were an improvement over my first visit. Heres a rundown on what I tried in this last week: -- La Mision Suprema(both the Carnitas and Chicken Tinga) -- Barely detectable Lime Crema. Really screams for cilantro and onion to be added(but for some reason those aren't included in this burrito). Way too much cheese that comes in clumps. The Chicken Tinga stood out to me as being really well done here. The Carnitas was a bit dry & unremarkable. -- El Numero Uno(Steak) -- Steak was good & tender, but there was too much of it. And it just needs something else to make it special. Or accompaniments that accomplish that. The Numero Uno was supposed to have cilantro and onions. But again these were barely detectable. Frankly it could have used rice along with a lot more cilantro & onion. -- Overall -- The menu is disjointed to me. I find it frustrating that I can't add cilantro & onion to the La Mision Suprema. And that I can't add rice to the El Numero Uno. And that the ingredients, never seem to be well balanced/mixed in any variation. I don't agree with folks that its too small for the $. It's just not impressive enough for the $. Its plenty of food. To end on a positive. The tortilla is the real stand out here. Even when I'm not happy with the burrito contents.
