The cheese enchilada was terrible and the interior had a taste of Kraft Cheese with that odd grilled cheese sandwich overkill. The next enchilada must of had a true shortage of meat and what chicken there was may of been canned as there was zero texture but loads of sliminess!? At last I figged how does one ruin a taco but it was a soggy mess and fell apart immediately! The rice & beans were no better flavorless with zero flavor or texture so was it a total crappolla!?? Suburbs kills me sometimes with their low standards for good food. It was mediocre to say the least, but I did really enjoy their chips with warm salsa! I prefer warm salsa over cold salsa any day! We ordered the California burrito, the fajitas for 1x, and the flautas Mexicana...my flautas were soggy with all the sour cream and white cheese they had sprinkled on top...they used rotisserie style chicken semi shredded but the chicken really lacked flavor. Very good authentic Tex-Mex food with high quality ingredients. Service was personalized to our table. We literally talked to every server in the restaurant. Food needs more seasoning, salsa needs more spice. This place is catered to give an Americanized experience of what you would think a Mexican restaurant is but it's nothing like a Mexican restaurant. Mexican rice is too fragrant and doesn't emphasize what your household Mexican rice would taste like. Scrap the guacamole salad... it's a little embarrassing. It's just chopped lettuce with a scoop of poorly executed guacamole. The pico de gallo needs more pico... and the ingredients should be chopped more finely. We came in, literally minutes before they closed, after driving down from Dallas. Despite our horrible timing, the staff greeted us with smiles and were ready to serve us a sit-down dinner. We decided to do a to-go order. They quickly took our order and the food was ready fairly quickly as well. Food was ok, nothing special. But what they lacked in food, they made up for in spirit. While we were waiting for our food some of the staff/owners started playing the guitar and singing. The atmosphere was warm and not one did they make us, or the other two full tables of customers feel like we should be gone since they were closing. First thing; they request/required a face covering upon entry. No problem. The hostess/cashier took my drink order right after seating me. I was excited to get the lemon on top of (I got my drink in a to go cup)and not inside my tea. A FULL PAGE for their lunch menu; not just half a dozen choices. I opted for the Señorita; my idea of a perfect TexMex meal. The guacamole was perfect; not mixed with a bunch of things; just simply seasoned smashed avocado. The ground beef in the taco was super tasty and well seasoned. The hot plate arrives and , well this señor(it)a is wondering how I'm going to eat all of this food. Rather than discussing each individual item; I'm just gonna say it was all fresh, hot and tasty. OMGosh I forgot to mention the chips and salsa; chips warm, not overly salted; salsa served warm; not hot and it's a perfect blend of a little smoky and a little spicy. A flavorful addition to the meal. The staff were all very attentive and kind. I will definitely eat here again when I'm in the area. We dropped by here for one reason and one reason only and that was to try the margaritas. Which clearly means that this stop was all my wife's idea. Upon entering I was surprised that the feeling was so homey. It was clearly decorated by a male whose only theme was to make it look Mexican. Well it did but the tacky side not the average perspective you would get if you actually know the culture. But enough of that let me get to the point. The margaritas are good but only the frozen. They were 5 bucks and jumbo. Well not everything that's good is good for you. This place has a kind owner who gives you the feeling that he appreciates your patronage. But it's dirty. The times that they would go in and out of the kitchen all I saw was filth. When I went to the restroom it all came clear. I don't think the toilets or sink have been cleaned since it opened. And the only way you can get soap out of the dispenser is you literally had to Jack the dang thing off and only to give you a little soap. I felt like an eager girlfriend saying "WTF is that all?" I've seen cleaner restrooms at a shade tree mechanic shop. Even after that it got worst. We sat for a full hour after eating and was completely ignored as the owner who was friendly when we walked in, but before leaving was eating while we were the only customers and waiting for our ticket. The only server who was there to help was sitting at a table by herself playing on the phone. Meanwhile we were left sitting with empty glasses waiting for our ticket. I had to literally yell out "can I please get my ticket" before anyone would come to the table. So I'm giving 2 stars for the opening service of the owner. The margaritas are good but not worth it if you add in the service and cleanliness. I did try the bacon wrapped shrimp and I wouldn't order them again nor go back again. I popped in here on Friday August 25th, 2017................ one day before hurricane Harvey made landfall south of Houston. This restaurant was near my hotel and still open. I had found a couple other places nearby who were closed for just in case. The service was excellent. Myself and a co worker were greeted and seated by the manager. Our drink order was placed promptly and yummy chips and salsa came out. We ordered a large side of chunky guacamole which was amazing! This was enjoyed with a delicious margarita! Our food came out quickly and was delicious! I know there are bigger and fancier Mexican restaurants in Houston, but I am glad I found this local Mom and Pop spot to enjoy my last lunch before getting of town. Gilbert, our host, and server, has the best personality! He treats you like he's known you for a long time and treats you like a good friend. I didn't like the flavor of the beef enchilada so, that one basically went in the trash after a few bites. The chicken enchilada was better. The meat was tender and flavorful. The rice and refried beans were ok. The beans were a little shy on flavor and the rice had practically no flavor. The cheese enchilada was just a little too much for me. Been coming to this place for a while, at first it was by chance because it was the closest place in the area with fajitas, but one visit turned into many and anytime I'm in the mood and in the area I end up here. If I can recommend one thing it's their enchiladas, all the different kinds they serve are so good. Fajitas are also on point if that's what you're looking for as well, and the portion size on items from their lunch menu is pretty crazy. Their margaritas are great, I can't say much about their other alcoholic beverages because when I come here I want a margarita or three, and that's all that's in my mind, not to mention they are very reasonably priced. The owner is a great guy, very personable and he knows his regulars. He always seems genuinely happy to see people coming in and visiting with his frequent customers. I'm a fan of these "hole-in-the-wall" type joints. This was our first visit and will not be our last. It was the Saturday of most college graduations so we were two of the eight or so couples dining in. We started with the typical chips and salsa, Los Caporales has two kinds of red, both very tasty. We also ordered queso, yum! Nothing spectacular but it was creamy and cheesy without being runny. While we had our salsa and queso we also indulged in some adult beverages. I started with a bloody mary (still feeling a bit sluggish from the night before), to my surprise it was spot on! I moved to Bud Light, I'm a beer drinker, not much on liquor. My boyfriend, however, is a margarita connoisseur and he raved about the top shelf rita. On to the food...I had the kabobs which were served scattered with mushrooms, onions, peppers, tomatoes, chicken and beef fajita. All delicious. I could have had more mushrooms but I wasn't complaining. I also ordered a chicken flauta a la carte. The flauta was perfect with tender chicken and a crisp corn tortilla. It was smothered in more of the lovely queso and a side of sour cream. I was reluctant but I did share it with the boyfriend. I do not recall what he had but I know it was flavorful because he told me at least three times! The owner came over to the table to chat about the food and how things were going. We learned some history about the restaurant, it's beginnings, and why they are closed on Sundays. By the end of the evening we'd made new friends, even cheered for the same soccer team! We have been going to this place for 16 years. Gilbert knows all the regulars and you'll be one of the "family." The frozen margaritas are awesome and I love the enchiladas. Everyone in my family has a favorite order. My husband goes back and forth between 4 favorite dishes. We love that we never have to wait for a table, can stay as long as we want and never feel rushed. It's not a "big chain" rush you in and out place. It is our go-to for Mexican food. The prices are reasonable and Gilbert always wants everyone's honest opinion. We honestly go only there for Mexican food. We used to live 1/2 mile away, now we live 6 miles away and pass dozens of Mexican places to go to Los Caporales. We seat ourselves in our "regular" booth after a hug from Gilbert.
