However, at our most recent visit we found the salsa & chips to be bland, my steak fajitas were grey as if microwaved, and three of us felt off or slightly ill all night after dinner. I will say their rice was very well seasoned but it's hard to find a compliment after that. Service was okay, food was out very quick but we had to ask for chips and salsa and the chips were super stale. The tamale was okay, very spicy heads up, and it had some gross chicken/pepper mix on top. The Chile rellanos was one of the worst I've had and I always get Chile rellanos at Mexican restaurants. The vegetables would have been fine but it was mostly broccoli and it was SO undercooked, inedible. Love the booths and the tables, and except for a loud kid birthday party nearby it was a good ambience. Went here because my mom lives close, but even she said that's the only reason she goes there. Order take out today. Just moved here from Los Angeles and I was very disappointed with the food quality from Los Cocos. The shedded chicken in the chimichanga had a ton of salt. The burrito had queso sauce, not red sauce like I ordered. The beef burrito was made with ground beef and I wouldn't eat it if it was free. The fish taco was cheap tilapia, had no flavor and had a bone. The chicken quesadilla was soggy and had too much chicken or the pieces were too big for the tortilla to stick. The entire family stopped eating and packed up our food. I returned the food and they remade the fish taco and the chimichanga. They apologized and remade the food quickly. We gave them another shot and the food was still sub par. The chimichanga was still salty and the fish taco was not good. Front of house service was attentive. They need to reevaluate their food quality and probably their cook. Food should never be that salty. read more

Chips- thick AF and stale Salsa- bland, no heat, no flavor, just boring. I considered asking for a hot salsa, but didn't see the point with the stale chips. Meal- had a shrimp chimi. It had a distinct fishy smell. BF's crunchy taco was so greasy that grease was steady dripping out of it when he picked it up. The rice and beans had zero flavor. A pineapple salsa came on the side with mine, and it wasn't bad! That was the only thing about this experience that I enjoyed. Service- only one other party there, we were sat right next to them. Typically wouldn't be an issue, but they were loud drunk, older (60's) women. Later on, they would do their best to relay all the words they remembered from their high school Spanish class to the waitress. We had already looked over the entire menu before anyone came to the table. The person who came to the table first brought us chips and salsa, then left without a word. A few minutes later, the waitress came over and took our drink and food order. Her hair was down and hanging in her face, definitely not sanitary, especially considering that she is the person who brought our food to the table later. Our drinks went empty a couple of times. The only refill I got came when we paid the check. We were never asked how our meal was. In a normal service, it would definitely be expected when the customer only took a few bites of the food. Additionally, a box wasn't offered. I wouldn't have wanted to take it with me, but that's another customary thing to be offered when someone's meal is barely touched. The service here continue to go down hill. This used to be our go to spot. We just stopped in at 3:30 to get an appetizer and a couple drinks for happy hour. We were the only people in the restaurant and it took us 5 minutes to get seated and then no one even approached us after sitting for 10 minutes even tho a server was cleaning a table right by us. Stopped in for lunch about 1:30 PM on a Monday. Restaurant wasn't busy. Took a while to get my drink order. I ordered the Chile verde at the same time I ordered my drink. It took a very long time to get my order. When I did it was super uninviting looking and the taste wasn't very good. It seemed like they just dumped a bottle of tomatio salsa on some pork and brought it out. I've eaten there previously where the food was good, but I'll most likely never order the Chile verde again. We've been there at Los Coco's several times. It's my wife's favorite Mexican restaurant. I'm telling you, when they hitting on all cylinders you can't beat them. This evening, I ordered a lime Margarita with my meal, it came in a dirty glass. I asked for another one because I never even drank out of it when I discovered the glass had built up on the inside. They brought up another Margarita at no charge. I'll be (insert expletive) if this one had broken glass in it. I promptly asked for the manager and showed him the two broken pieces of glass that I chomped down on and earlier the dirty glass. It seems that when they have it right, there isn't a better place to get Mexican food in Wichita, but it's a roll of the dice which one you plan on getting. Will I go there again? Yes. That's because my wife really enjoys the food there. I'd just as soon as go to McDonalds before I'd eat there. McDonalds is always the same, no surprises. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. The table needed to be bussed a second time because they left dirty napkins on the floor and used forks under the seats. We ordered Chile verde. It was legit just carne asada with canned green Chile's poured on it and warmed up. No flavor or heat, just bland gross canned taste. Wont go back. Always a good dining experience but when they're under staffed we as consumers all want to jump off our high horses and blame them for their slow service. And that's exactly what happened on a Saturday night night when I visited. After telling the manager that we never got our silverware and I requested subbing the beans for more rice, they explained to me that one of the cooks basically walked off the job... well that sucks. But that really didn't explain why I didn't get my silverware or the the delay in getting my chips and salsa. But let's blame it on the chain of reaction. So I let it go. I really love Los CoCo's, and this is why: 1. The food is DELICIOUS! I haven't had a bad dish. 2. Lunch menu is inexpensive, very reasonably priced. 3. Their Chicken Tortilla Soup is the best, with large portions of meaty breast meat, savory broth, and nice toppings. 4. Their chips and salsa are always good, not too spicy, fresh & delicious! 5. People love their margaritas. I don't drink, so don't know, but people I've dined with love them. A couple of negatives: The service is spotty, at best. You may occasionally get a friendly, attentive waiter; however, most of the time you will experience a disinterested or slightly irritated waitress.And the high, severely straight-back chairs are very uncomfortable for most people. We came in for Father's Day. We waited over an hour for our food. My wife asked for flour tortillas and was told that would not be a problem. Her meal came out with corn tortillas. My wife sent it back but was told the meal only came with corn. Then my wife reminded the server that she was told flour tortillas would not be a problem... so back it went a second time and was finally done right. Hubby and I went here for lunch last Saturday. It took a few minutes for the Hostess to seat us, but we were sat at a Table and our Server was Gabriela. We were handed Menus and asked for our Drink Order -- we each ordered a Margarita 'On the Rocks' and I asked for a Glass of Water. She said that we would be brought Chips and Salsa shortly. Hubby salted the Chips and I thought that they were cold and possibly stale. Hubby waved to Gabriela for a small bowl of Queso Blanco. The Queso and the Drinks arrived and we were placing our Order. Hubby picked Fajitas and asked about the Steak Durango. I wanted to know what veggies were served with the Steak and Rice. She said Zucchini, Squash, Onions and Bell Peppers and I asked if they could leave out the Bell Peppers and she said 'Yes'. Then she asked how I wanted my Steak cooked and I said 'Medium'. When our meals arrived, I noticed that half of my Steak was cooked 'Well Done' but the other half was 'Medium' so I didn't complain ( the other half was meant for our Pups anyway :) I was please with the Vegetable Medley and it was exactly how she described it. She asked if I wanted Steak Sauce -- so I asked for A1. More than anything else, we had an EXCELLENT Server. The reason for the 4 Stars instead of 5 -- is the stale Chips and the overcooked Steak. read more

Another great item to get the chicken tortilla soup. Their chips and salsa are good but don't fill up on it because the true best part of the place is their actual food. LACKING LEADERSHIP-----I will be updating my review since the GM that was running this Los Coco's has moved on to their new store on the east side. This review comes after 3 (not 1) unsatisfactory experiences over the past 60 days, since that leadership change has taken place late last year. 1) Visited there for an early dinner that was unfortunately during shift change and both the wait staff and kitchen demonstrated a lack of attention to service or food preparation as they were either leaving for home, or not ready to start their shift. Our waitress had zero personality and the food was served cold. 2) Last week had ordered Beef and Chicken Fajitas that first came incorrect and then after they fixed the problem they served it on such a hot skillet that it actually burned all the food they had come in contact with it. I did let management know of the issue and asked why the kitchen would use such a hot skillet.....no answer. 3) Tonight we had met friends for dinner (we had been invited and probably would not have returned so soon after having a bad experience just days before). They had got there 5 minutes before and been seated and asked for their "usual" waiter and been denied that request by the hostess, they did not even get approached by a waiter till after we arrived, the drink order (two margaritas and a soda) were wrong and after waiting for 15 minutes we final stopped our waiter to ask if at some time someone was going to bring chips and salsa. (No exaggeration it was 15 minutes and we still had to ask for chips and salsa). Our waiter returned 5 minutes later, not with chips and salsa, but food for another table. I got up and left a half empty restaurant, because the manager on duty was hiding in the kitchen rather than walking his floor talking to patrons. This is to blame on leadership or the lack there of and training. There is no way that our waiter was prepared to work on more than two tables at a time and should had been trained to ask for help when its needed as all of these issues were preventable if a leader cares. There are many Mexican restaurants for me to visit weekly, it no longer be Los Coso's until they start to care again! read more

Best. Salsa. Ever. It's not too spicy and a bit on the chunky side. Service is typically really good. The waiters and waitresses are nice and welcoming. Top 3 best Mexican food in Wichita. I've tried a lot of different dishes. Pollo San Luis is my favorite! I also like the grilled lime chicken, shrimp cocktail, and ceviche. Their margaritas on the rocks are pretty good too if you do top shelf tequila. I mainly go here for the salsa though. read more

I really like Los CoCo's. Their Queso Blanco is some of the best in town...it's certainly the "not so hidden" Gem of the restaurant. The rest of the menu is good, and the quality of the food is good, but it's not anything overly special. However, it's also extremely affordable, service is fast and friendly, and I've always found the restaurant to be clean. My wife and I have been to this Los CoCo's dozens of times and never had a bad experience...our order is always accurate, the food is always hot and tasty, and the service is always friendly and efficient. If you go when they're busy, yes, there will be a wait time and it will take a little longer to get your food...it's a sit-down restaurant, not a drive-thru. read more
