My husband and I were on our way to dinner down the street until we passed Los Compadres and decided to give it a try. We had no idea this was even here as the owner said it just opened last week so we were pleasantly surprised! Chips and salsa and drink refills were quick. For drinks, we had the Loco margarita and the swirl and they were both tasty and strong. For dinner, we we shared a cup of queso and fajitas for one which was a generous portion- they weren't my favorite but not bad by any means. I'm curious to try some of their other dishes as they had a fairly large menu with so many taco options! Atmosphere was great as well and we will definitely be back! read more

We waited 15+ minutes with no menu, no server, no drinks. My girlfriend went in and had ask the host for menu/server. When the server showed up he asked "what do you want?" And we had to remind him we have not had menus yet. Our host, who was lovely, had to bring out our food due to the fact that the server was MIA. At the end of the meal, my girlfriend had to go inside again to ask for the check, again being helped out by the hostess. With other great tex mex options literally down the road, it is becoming harder and harder to support this location in spite of the great food. My first experience with this restaurant was when I ordered delivery to a local hotel during a stay there. With a doubt they had the most flavorful Mexican food I have ever ordered. The portions were very generous and unbelievably tasty. I have not actually been to the restaurant itself and this review is based on two delivery meals but I have to say this is my new favorite place for Mexican food in the entire metroplex. I plan to go to their location soon and I'm sure the food will be even better when served fresh on the table. read more

I have been to this establishment several times, we enjoy the food and service, however today I was very unhappy when I saw the hostess sitting on the floor at the hostess station arranging the menus which were laid on the floor, she wasn't cleaning them nor wiping them down, just turning them all the same direction. We found this to be unsanitary and then she proceeded to mess with her hair and then as two customers walked in she grabbed two menus and sat the guest at a table next to us. Why wear a mask , if your hostess doesn't even sanitize her hands not once during all this. The food was good the service was ok. I was disappointed by all this since I had taken a friend that was visiting from San Antonio and she loved the place till we saw this and then we were full of in asked questions. Perhaps more training is needed, I have worked in food service and has the food industry gone bonkers,with no hand washing especially at this pandemic time. I feel perplexed. read more

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! We've come in twice within a 7 day time frame and it's been our favorite! The margaritas are delicious! The watermelon blueberry marg is delightful and a perfect summer drink. The swirl is also super enjoyable and a great pairing with the delicious food! We've had the fajita combo, taquitos, nachos and shrimp tacos--all of which have been hot and tasty! After a long drive to meet friends and family I had a hard time finding parking around the seeming newly constructed area and a little difficulty finding the entrance along. After several calls to the group I was meeting went unanswered and as I have a sketchy knee and back issue and when I found a parking spot it was a small hike. I ended up calling the restaurant and server who answered was unhelpful, I was passed on to the manager who was awesome, tracked down my party and then met me at the side door to let me in. Many Kudos to him. Finally joining my party the drinks looked good and were plentiful and the food was nicely presented, quite tasty and didn't break the bank. I enjoyed the shrimp enchiladas covered in queso and added a scoop of guacamole to them which was just perfect. We love Los Compadres and have been many times. The food is always delicious and it is always delivered to our table in a timely manner. The reason we can't give it 5 stars is because of the service. We have been here a handful of times now when the servers aren't friendly, drinks aren't refilled, and we are checked on once for the entire meal. Last night, we pointed out to the server that he charged us for kids drinks which should have been included (per kids menu). He acted annoyed with us like it was our fault. The service really makes or breaks this place. If servers are going to be working in the service industry I'd hope they be trained on the basics of servicing people. read more

Wife and I went for a normal quick weekday dinner, first time going there. While the food was excellent, what really made the experience was our waiter Adolfo. Not only did he know the menu inside and out, he was fast, funny and on top of every aspect of service. Good food keeps you full for a few hours, great service brings you back again. I get that new restaurants have growing pains, but our experience here last night was the worst I've ever dealt with. We were told we'd be seated within 30 minutes so we sat down to wait. During this time we had 3 groups of 3-4 people come in and be seated ahead of us, some even waiting less then 5 minutes (we were just a table of 2). When we finally caught on and asked the 5 girls at the front desk what was going on we were told we were going to be getting a table right in front of us as soon as it was cleaned. Well, we stood and watched as the 6th girl working at the front came up, grabbed 4 napkins and sat yet another group at the table we were just told was ours. When confronted with this non of the girls could tell us what happened or why we kept getting passed over, no we are sorry that something got messed up, no let me get my manager, just excuses. One of the girls even went as far as to tell us they were seated ahead of us because they were ok with being seated outside, which was a lie, as 2 of the groups that were seated ahead of us were within view. Maybe the owners and mangers should spend time training their employees on customer service instead of standing around the bar talking to their friends as they come in. We will not be back and we would never recommend this place. We wound up down the street with Los Moljactes and had a wonderful dinner and evening in a restaurant that appreciated our business read more

Food was good, cool place but they are so unorganized and the service is really hit or miss. We got a table for 3 with out a wait, but sat there for 20 min before we our server even approached our table. Then it took another 5 min to get waters. Our entrees took about 45 min to arrive too and they forgot my avocado slices I requested. We had to ask three times to get them. Meanwhile the table next to us ordered table side guacamole but it took so long, their meals ended up coming out before they could get the quac. They canceled it. Also we noticed all the tables around us were waiting a long time to get their drinks once they were sat and the sad thing was we saw about 4 managers walking around the restaurant not doing anything. The GM finally stepped in and started directing the staff to help. It just seemed they need better systems to handle the business they have. Not sure we will come back because there are so many other Mexican food places that are better and have better service. read more

We ate here a few times right after they opened and it was so good....however we went again last week and it was not good. My husband has the steak y rellano and the cheese was solid, not melted in the pepper. The refried beans weren't cooked all the way and were cold. Spare to fair Tex Mex. not much separates this place from any of the other generic Tex Mex places. The food was good but not great. The service was very good. The drinks were expensive and less than mediocre. I would go again if I were invited by friends but I don't think I would choose it as a destination. Went here last night to celebrate my wife and daughters birthday. Was very excited to try this place for the first time as I had my eye on it for awhile and I was so in the mood for Mexican food! Had a party of 11. We were told it would be a half hour wait...which is expected but there was tons of tables open! Had 5-4 top tables and 1-6 top table open. So the reason...they were short staff and didn't have enough to wait on us and informed us a couple tables would have to leave before we could sit, however, smaller parties of 2 kept coming in and getting sat immediately. So how exactly was our situation going to improve if we have to wait for tables to clear but you keep seating people ahead of us? And even if we had to wait be waited on, wouldn't it be better to have your customer sat at a table in the ac enjoying chips and salsa, than waiting outside in the heat? Hostess didn't seem to get it or care so we went across the street to Fosters Sushi. They had the same situation but sat our party of 11 immediately. So two stars is only for the ineptitude of Los Compadres hosting staff and not the actual food since I never got to try it. Hope to in the future though. I will give it another try some time as the place is nice inside and menu looks good. read more

I don't understand why this restaurant has only 3.5 stars... I have been to this restaurant three to four times all ready. The overall experience every time, I have been there is CONSISTENT! Looks great from the outside and the salsas are pretty good too, but the buck stops there. The queso has a weird taste and the consistency of water. Speaking of water for some reason my water tasted like salt water. The fajitas come with literally 4 pieces of meat and onions on a hot skillet. The chicken and the beef were both surprisingly bland and flavorless. Rice and beans were acceptable, but the flower tortillas were overcooked. The fish taco's were under seasoned as well but even worse there was a fingernail sized fish bone in one and a toothpick sized bone in the second taco. The drinks were decent but I would've loved to have tried a different drink instead of automatically being brought the same one after I finished the 1st. Definitely not worth the waste or the price. Unfortunately I could've gotten better flavor and quality at a fast food restaurant. I wanted to like this place but the further the meal went along the worse it got. read more

Highly recommend the table side guacamole. Also, recommend the carne asada street tacos and the chic enchiladas verdes. Chili con carne with beans? Come on man!! Table side guacamole was okay, but heavy on lime and light on salt. Platters are very big, so they aren't stingy. Salsa has a bite and is flavorful. Wish the margs had more bite. Tasty, but not a lot of punch there. We live close, so will try again, but nothing special here. read more

We really want to love this place. Once the hype and excitement of the "new place in town" dies down we will try again. Our first attempt to check it out was shot down by an hour and 45 minute wait for a table. No thanks. Though we didn't eat dinner, we did visit the bar that day and the Swirl Margarita was delicious. On our second visit, armed with menu recommendations from friends, we were able to secure a table in the dining room (literally in the entry way to the bathrooms :-/ ) and have dinner. I had the Jalapeno Grapefruit Margarita. Delicious! Not to hot, but just a little heat. We ordered the Tableside Guacamole. It tasted fine, but the part about "tableside" must have been lost on the staff that night because within 3 minutes of ordering a gentleman brought over a bowl of mediocre guacamole, already prepared. No tableside tonight. Let's talk Ceviche. I'm happy to share my recipe, or heck just google it....but whatever this was, it most certainly was not ceviche. Not even all that tasty. My husband ordered the Snapper prepared veracruz style. He says it was very good and would definitely order it again. I, on the other hand, really wanted something classic tex-mex. I ordered the Chimichanga with chicken. The menu described, deep fried stuffed with shredded chicken, peppers and onions. I received a barely flash fried and doughy tortilla rolled up with some diced grilled chicken inside and nothing else. Very Meh, to say the least. Perhaps the hour we waited this time to get a table was an indication that the brand new staff is still figuring things out amidst a large turnout of guests, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. This time. We are regulars at this restaurant's sister establishments and we love them. I hope the next time we visit here we will feel the same about this one. I was skeptical of yet another Mexican restaurant being ranked as #1 but after my first bite of food, I realized that the "public" had spoken and was 100% correct. It was great! I had the Chepe plate (Steak sopes, chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce & tomatillo sauce, and roasted poblano tamale) and my friend had Brisket tacos. On my Chepe plate (Chepe is one of the chefs, by the way), I had two gambles: the tamale because I've only ever liked one tamale in my life although I keep trying, and the sopes which I had never had). The tamale was beautifully made with just the right amount of masa to filling and with a sauce that really complimented it. Yum! The sope is an open-faced sandwich of sorts with a corn base that had an interesting texture. Also yum! They could have mailed it in with the chicken enchilada but they didn't - it was made with care including seasoned and tender chicken and a balanced tomatillo sauce. Each dish was wonderful and I would have a hard time picking my favorite (OK, it's the tamale). My friend's tacos were also well done (as in tasty and notable) but I think he had entree envy of my three delicious options (he's denying it of course, but I know envy when I see it and in this case it was completely deserved). We moved to Roanoke 6 months ago and have enjoyed getting to experience all of downtown Roanoke. We saw this new restaurant pop up and chose to make a stop for dinner. The hostess and our waiter were nice enough to leave a one star review and tip well, but I see major faults with the quality of the establishment as a whole. Our bus boy was the first to greet us after being sat by the nice hostess. He brought salsa and no chips, we waited to meet our server.. did not speak to our server for another 5-10 minutes who didn't introduce himself, which I view as an error being an overworked and new employee. It happens. We waited another 10 minutes to get chips and water and have our drink requests taken. The bartender delivered them but both were bland; mine an Aztec mule and my boyfriend's the jalapeño basil margarita had no flavor, but the margarita was particularly bad with browning, wilted basil (and not from muddling, but from aged herbs). We both eventually ordered entrees, we don't mind waiting to order especially when our waiter is so nice. My biggest issue of the night was the dinner itself. The El Pastor entree was cold and overly sweet, the Filet Y Rellano would have so much potential if it followed the ingredients as it read on the menu. When presented, the steak it look like it was smothered in a strange mush and the flavor was even less appealing. For the price, I recommend this place to no one. Save yourself a trip and go to Aztec Tacos at the gas station near 114 and Byron Nelson or Los Molacajetes if you want good service, Mexican food and drinks. read more
