My girlfriend and I came to Florence for the weekend and were craving some margaritas and Mexican food. Decided to check out this place and we were not disappointed. We ordered two tortas and two margaritas and definitely hit the spot. The torta is a good size, the bread was nice and toasted, and the asada was nice and tender. We went during lunch so it was somewhat busy and only one server was running the show. However, she was on top of everything and super nice. Big props to her. It seems to be a family run business and the decor inside is bright and cheerful. Went to this place because of the high Yelp and Google scores as we were camping in the area. Small run down cafe type place on 101..tables crowded in..not comfortable at all. Saw spiders hatching on the window sill..very run down, Took a while before we could order as the waitress was showering praise on some old locals? OK chips and salsa to start..awful..store bought..and cheap chips, not salsa as we know it but two squeeze bottles of red and green hot sauce. My order was seriously messed up..maybe they knew what i ordered but thinking i was their regular old gringo customer..served me something completely different..it was good but NOT the dish i ordered. When traveling to Florence for vacation, I read some great reviews for Los Compadres, so I decided to take the family there for dinner. The restaurant was small and could definitely be classified as a "hole in the wall", but I generally find this to be a good thing for a Mexican restaurant. Burritos are generally one of my measuring sticks for how good a Mexican restaurant is, so I decided to order a carne asada burrito. The burrito was quite large and was stuffed to capacity with marinated skirt steak, beans, rice, tomato, onion, guacamole, and sour cream. I had the option of ordering it wet or dry, and I went with the wet option which meant it was served covered in a red sauce. I can't imagine not having it wet as it was so good smothered with sauce! The steak in the burrito was very tender and quite flavorful, and the melding of all ingredients delivered a punch that made my taste buds jump for joy! I would definitely recommend this burrito to anyone. My son ordered shredded beef tacos. They are essentially Mexican street tacos, complete with the double corn tortilla, shredded beef, tomatoes, onion, and cilantro. The tacos were fantastic, from the tender beef, to the amazing corn tortillas, to the freshness of the rest of the ingredients. I liked the burrito better, but the tacos definitely held their own. Though the place was small, the owners made sure to seat us all comfortably, though this did require splitting our group of 7 into 2. The service definitely felt family-like, making the entire dining experience very enjoyable. The food was fantastic, the prices were reasonable, and the portions were great. 3 Stars because the waitress was very nice. Ordered beef chimichanga hubby had enchilada and beef street taco. Chips were homemade but no salt! There was no salt and pepper shakers on the table. The homemade green and red salsas were great! The guacamole needed salt and pepper and lime. The food was served hot. The beef fillings on both entrees lacked seasoning. The bean were great but I had about 2 tablespoons on my plate. The rice tasted old. Hubbys cheese enchilada was delicious as was the sauce. Very good. Excellent service. Very tasty food. We spent the day hiking and sand boarding and we were looking for a casual restaurant with good food. This fit the bill perfect. We started with the chicken nachos they were very good. Fresh chicken, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Excellent. The carne asada dinner was excellent. Both my wife and daughter enjoyed this dinner. My son had the chicken burrito and described it as the best he has ever had. Don't forget the margaritas they were deciduous. read more

In my personal opinion they are having a few growing pains in the new building with the food they need to get over. There were several of us there for a Sunday brunch. The service was awesome, but the food.... I ordered chorizo con huevos and it was not very good. The chorizo was not very spicy and the eggs were literally burnt. Another ordered chili rellanos and it was served as just a piece of pepper battered with some cheese over the top. Not a whole pepper stuffed as is normally the case. It was bad attempt. The refried beans served with the orders have the viscosity of water which is too bad as it runs all over the plate. Their salsas on the table also have the consistency of water, not very flavorful and served out of a squeeze container. Very difficult to dip a chip into. On a high note the margaritas were made very well. Overall The place is very nice but there are temperature zones within the levels. Too hot high up, too cold down below. If they can work out the food issues this can be a great place, with a very nice bar. I'll be back, but they do have to work on the food quite a bit. 5 stars for the service, zero or maybe 1 for the food. And the last thing is that there is no clearly defined entrance they need to work on. read more

Now in a new location! We tried them for lunch and were greatly disappointed. Nothing we were served was homemade or of decent quality. Saltless chips, a tamale and chili rellano that were so flavorless I didn't know which was which. 'They looked like they were run over by a truck. Dry rice and the thinness refried beans I've ever been served. My wife's chimichanga was no better. With a new location and higher overhead, they will not be in business long with this kind of quality. We will not consider going back! read more

We where visiting from out of town and the family wanted to eat in Old Town but we could not find parking close enough to anything for my elderly father to be able to join us.(recent hip replacement)So after a few loops looking for parking we decided to look elsewhere. I really do not like leaving bad or mediocre reviews but my food was pretty disappointing. I ordered the chicken burrito so that is the only thing I'm reviewing. The burrito was large but loosely wrapped and really a mess inside. I don't mind eating with a fork however but the chicken inside the burrito was so hard and dry I literally could not chew it. The menu states it's slow roasted but this appeared to be grilled and extremely over cooked, the rice and beans had very little if any flavor as well. To begin, I ordered Margarita's made from scratch and was specific that I did not want bar mix. Well got bar mix. Enchilada's were pretty good as was chimichanga. Maybe the worst burrito I've had, and pricey too. I got two simple bean and cheese burritos, they went in the trash and were over $7.50 each. I know it's hard to imagine but they had too much cheese. Cheap cheese. So thick and chewy we choked on it. Long, stringy , unbreakable, massive cables of cheese. Truly delicious food. Great friendly service. Great value. We ate combination plates and quesadilla, and both were tasty and filling. On plates we tasted the chili rellano, chicken, ground beef and cheese enchiladas, ground beef and chicken tacos, and guacamole. Everything was seriously savory. The beef was spicy but not over taking; the chicken was all white and packed in the enchilada and the taco. The refried beans was also great. We usually huge a place by guacamole and salsa. The Salsa was okay because some like it prepared the way it is here. For me, I like it chunkier for the onion and cilantro flavored strong. They also bring a green tomatillo sauce that is very flavorful, and I liked it better. We had the niece is the owner wait on us, and she was very friendly telling us she was here to make money for the summer because her husband was deployed to Afghanistan from Arizona. I have to give this a five, even if it's not an upscale, fancy place. Even though the inside is small and the outside has a couple of picnic table. what it important is the food and the service. Both are excellent. I went there for a taco and a beer and ended up with a great margarita and and full dish of food. It's a simple place, with good good and good prices. Terrible and dishonest service. We ordered a margarita virgin without alcohol and they accidentally brought us one with alcohol. When we pointed that out the waitress showed some attitude and begrudgingly replaced it. When we went to pay she had added the price of an alcoholic margarita and tried to pretend it was the price for the virgin non alcoholic margarita. We had to get the menu to check the prices and when we pointed out they tried to over charge us she got angry, slammed the menu down, and abruptly ripped the receipt out of the machine slammed it down and walked away while complaining about us in Spanish. I dont think she realized that 2 of us speak Spanish and understand what she was saying. Since they tried to steal from us through a deliberate upcharge and then insulted us in Spanish we will never be back. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in Florence that dont try to steal from you or insult you. read more

Got there late 8:35pm but wanted to try it because of the great reviews. It was excellent food just like it said, and the people working there were extremely friendly and helpful. My son had 2 tamales and my wife and I split a Camarones aka Crema - top quality but the Crema sauce was unbelievable - best I have ever had. Took 3 times asking for water before getting it. The Camerones Rancheros was covered in 1/4" grease (not exaggerating that measurement). The vegetables were mushy and shrimp over cooked (rubbery and tough). Flavorless. Sent it back and still got charged for it. Ordered a plate of refried beans to at least eat something and it came out covered in grease too. They don't have salsa but serve the chips with bottles of hot sauce. Margarita was sugary and watery and was $9! Total bill was $26 for the most disgusting food I've ever had. The only upside is the server was very pleasant. read more

What a dismal experience for an authentic Mexican restaurant. The excellence stopped with the service which was friendly and attentive. In my opinion, the food can only be described as less than mediocre. My enchilada, rice, and beans was one big soupy mess. You practically needed a spoon. Forget about adding salsa to it, which was just more runny sauce. The tacos are ridiculously small, as if for a child, and they were wet and runny, as well. I don't recall any Mexican restaurant that doesn't bring you complimentary chips and salsa, but that's what you get here--none! They're $2 if you want to order them on the side. We absolutely will not be returning here ever! There's better Mexican restaurants in town, believe me. read more
