Firstly, I thought I had done this review years ago, however I was here recently and need to do a review primarily because of the clam chowder. I just drove up and down half of the Oregon coast and tried several different supposedly "the best" clam chowder and verified what I already know; out of all of the best, this is the best best. It's real chowder, everything in it is delicious and you could have it as a meal with nothing else. I'll give it a 3.95/4 because I'm going to continue to try to find the best. The atmosphere is also very unique, with all of the firefighter memorabilia, and pub style. But I've never had bad service here and I've been coming back for the better part of 20 years. Not busy on a Saturday night! We were seated, had drink orders taken, and waited... only one waitress & helper. Waitress was also the bartender! The wine came out ~ 30 minutes after we ordered, the cocktails ~ 1 hour. Food arrived over an hour after ordering. Food was ok, not stellar. Clam chowder was good, but the giant chunks of onion were gross. The only dessert offered was bread pudding (?). My preference is to not post a Yelp if I have a bad experience, but in this case I want to warn people, because there are other choices in town that are fantastic. The food here was fine. My husband and I each had the Salmon Caesar Salad. The issue is horrible service. With only two people covering inside and outside (which, based on reading other reviews, seems to be the norm), the person hosting the outside was flat out rude, over and over. Our first encounter with her is when we were waiting, as the sign asked, to be seated and she had to grumble at us saying "you need to move". Well, if you don't want us to wait at the entry perhaps make that more clear. After we were seated, we saw her do the same thing over and over again to people who are queuing up, waiting to be seated. When she came to the table to ask us what we wanted to drink, it was very gruff, "What do you want." I understand that people have a bad day, and that is why I tend to not make Yelp posts when I'm disappointed, but I think the owners of this place should be aware. We observed about six different groups of people just walk away, because after standing in the door, getting grumbled at by the one server that had to go outside, and yet they were never spoken to in anyway, for example, nobody said, "we will be right with you", they just left. With so many other good options right there on the street, I definitely will not go back to this place . read more

Stopped in for a late lunch after a visit to the shore and were so glad we did. Service was great and the prices were reasonable, but truly the food was excellent. We had pulled pork sandwiches, fettuccine Alfredo, a burger and the chicken fried steak. They all tasted homemade with great flavor. Very happy with everything and would highly recommend. Being new the area & wanting a good burger after getting situated, this place was the 1st one to pop up on my Google search. I wanted real food not fast food & it was a little late on a Sunday night. The burger & fries were perfect! The ambience was good, friendly staff and clean. Wr have been back once& both times the food was great along with the service. The second trip i tried the Chicken Fried Steak with gravy on the side. It was perfect & not greasy. The mashed potatoes were good also. I dunno...we have been here often enough that I can say we've never had a crummy day here. Reading a couple other reviews, I beg to differ on the seating near the window, we sat there on Monday and didn't have a problem at all with someone telling us we couldn't sit there. We ordered the fish n chips and OUTSTANDING!!! As good as any seafood restaurants fish n chips!!! Our waitress was terrific. Only crummy thing was we think my husband left his wallet. Never again. Here's what happened Went here to get Boobie's 18th bday dinner. They're packed cause its a Saturday at the beach in August, expected. Duder and I walk to the register to place a to go order and a woman, older, short white hair is at the register almost as soon as I get there. I proceed to tell her she was fast im friendly of course and she said im sorry doesn't look like we have anything here for you. I said no, you wouldn't, id like to place a to go order. She proceeds to tell me how many tables they have and how busy the kitchen is. I said, its my sons request for his 18th birthday, I don't give a shit on the wait, ie I'm ok with it. She looks at me and points to a sign to refuse service... I said excuse me? Your upset cause I told you it was no worry on the wait, it his request and I'm ok with the wait. She began to explain again the wait, to which I said again its fine. She then pulls a tall middle aged auburn hair lady over to tell me that even with the wait, they're not taking to go orders. I said thats wild work, so if I stand in the line to be seated and order then get it and ask for boxes that would be legit, but me skipping that whole step you're denying an order? She open eyed says yup, were doing no to go orders, and the tables behind you are reserved with a wide gesture of the two tables behind me. I said thats wild work, and f this place as I walked out. Shouldn't have cussed but I get so annoyed at poor customer service. The people in line behind me left. The two couples sitting outside left. Morals of the story .... 1. Customer service really lacks here 2. Make your policy make sense 3. Won't ever step foot in here again but WILL ALWAYS tell anyone who listens how two women denied my kiddo a birthday dinner to go cause they were just too busy ...to which I say, you know its summer higher higher more staff and make your money, don't deny and be rude. read more

Came here to visit the Oregon coast and I was not disappointed in the service and meal. We came here after a nice hike at Sweet Creek Trailhead to see the waterfalls. The food here was excellent. The atmosphere was very welcoming and I enjoyed looking at the diverse wall decorations. Their fish and chips were very filling at a reasonable price. Our server went above and beyond to make sure we felt right at home and that our needs were met. They had football going on multiple TVs which was huge. 6 of us stopped by for lunch, inside had plenty of empty tables. The waitress took 5 drink orders and walked away to make the drinks. I chased her down to provide the 6th drink order. Drinks were delivered and appreciated. The same waitress took our lunch order for "6" separate meals. When the food was delivered only 5 plates of food was delivered. When we asked about the 6th, she said it would just be a minute the cod was still cooking. All other meals were consumed when she walked up with the 6th plate. Instead of apologizing for the delay, she stop to seat new customers with our plate still her hand. Again I had to chase down the waitress for our order. The food was worth 2 stars. For 3 weeks we asked everyone we met to tell us where to get the best clam chowder. Everybody has a different answer. So we had a lot of chowder. There final people we asked (Jack and Diane) who we're camping across from us and had lived in the area for 50+ years told us to try the Firehouse. We almost didn't go because we were pretty chowdered out.. ..but, we were glad we did. It was easy to see why the Firehouse has won so many best chowder awards. They are cheating a little with the Deluxe but everyone should try it. By cheating I mean, it's hard to lose when you put in so many great ingredients. read more

i love this restaurant, there is so much to see on the walls. the service was really good, once we sat outside with our dog and once inside with friends. they were very accomodating with our dog and brought water without asking. the food, especially the chowder is top notch! read more

We've been customers for nearly 20 years in this restaurant. The waitresses are+ rude, especially the older woman with white hair. We go there 1on days when it's off tourist season, virtually less than 10 people and the waitresses absolutely refuse to let us sit near a window where they have 2 tables shoved together to accommodate 8 people. Ironically there only a total of 8 people in the entire restaurant! So in the 30 minutes it took us to eat our lunch, a party of 2 came in. Translated: if you don't have a party of 8 or more, you'll never get a window seat. You'll sit by the noisy kitchen or the path to the bathroom. This place has gone downhill in the last few years and with better service and friendlier servers in town, look elsewhere. read more

My first time here was not a good experience. My sister and I went here for dinner tonight and we both ordered the deluxe clam chowder bowl. The initial waitress that seated us was great. But the waitress we ended up with the rest of the time we were there was an airhead and has zero customer service skills and wasn't very friendly. There were several folks at another table across from us and we heard her say sorry I forgot about you guys and they had been sitting there before we got seated. It took her several minutes to come back and get there order. She also took quite some time to come get our order or ask if we want drinks. She never asked if we wanted any refills on our soda or on our purple Harley drinks. When we got our food she never brought any napkins with it, and while my sister was eating her clam chowder a few bites in she bites into a big piece of clam shell and almost broke her tooth. We had to wait awhile till I seen the waitress cause she was nowhere to be seen and we brought this to her attention, her reaction wasn't pleasant and seemed stupefied we brought this up and like we were making it up, and we didn't even make a scene about it we quietly brought it up to her. She took the piece of shell and took it to the kitchen supposedly to show the cook and make sure it was a piece of shell. She didn't show any concern that my sister almost broke her tooth and was having tooth pain because of it. She came back awhile later and said it was a piece of clam shell and says it happens sometimes. Never apologized or tried to make things right or asked to replace the bowl of chowder. My sister and I go to Mo's all the time since we were kids and other seafood restaurants on the coast and have never had a piece of clam shell in our clam chowder before. I suggest not going here or at least not ordering the clam chowder. If a child ended up eating my sisters bowl of food they could have choked on that piece of shell. We will not be coming back here and will be letting all our friends know about this terrible experience. I used to be a manager at a store and this is not how you treat your customers at all when something like this occurs. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

We are in Old Town Florence for the annual Chowder Festival. We purchase a Tour Card at the Main Pagoda for $5. It has a map and name of locations that are participating in a competition to see who has the best chowder. We walk around to the different shops and restaurants, show your tour card and get a small sample of their chowder. At the end of the tastings you vote for the best chowder. The winning establishment receives an award plaque and the notoriety of having the most popular chowder of the year. This year I voted the Firehouse as the best because I found the chowder to be very thick with an incredibly smooth, creamy richness. It was also very heavy with clam, bacon, celery and potato that it very much resembled more of a stew. Congratulations Firehouse! I hope you win! read more

We were spending sometime in Florence, for the first time and ran across open outdoor seating at this restaurant / bar. Once we ordered a drink, the table next to us left in the waitress asked them to leave their menus and then she did not clean them, nor wipe down the table, or the chairs. Bad practice during this covid period. Second, the beer tasted like it came from and dirty lines (We are very familiar with the beer industry) We did not have any food. Soooo I just read a review that kind of upset me. We were in the Firehouse Restaurant at the same time as a certain couple came in. Right at opening. We have been coming to this restaurant for years. And have never been disappointed, that being said. The female of the couple ahead of us was very demanding the waitress to split up large group tables for just the 2 of them. Did not request nicely at all. That was denied. And I know exactly why, we have seen time and again very large groups hit this restaurant. It didn't happen today, but it does frequently. The server was nothing but prompt, kind, pleasant. So if you're out there to bash businesses because you are making demands, and they don't jump through your hoops. PLEASE save it. We will be back because we LOVE this restaurant and their food. It's a wonder why anyone would want to even be a server out here with those types of people out there acting like jerks. read more

Price is relatively low for a waterfront view. The food is mediocre, not terrible, not great. The atmosphere is relatively laid back. The people that ordered the clam chowder said it tasted like it was from a can. The steamer clams were delicious. If your on a budget, I suggest the Firehouse.
