Our room (#109) was cute, charming, and comfortable. It had a beautiful view of the green hills and huge lawn. The bed was comfortable. TV, microwave, and fridge all worked properly. Breakfast was outstanding compared to the place we stayed at across the road. Minor wear and tear on the furniture and in the bathroom, but it didn't bother me. There was one high corner with cobwebs but it reminded me of being at a grandmother's old house and you're not bothered or grossed out about it lol. The charm outshined it all. It was so peaceful and loved all the happy birds singing and birds of paradise and other surrounding flowers. Front desk was also friendly and had our room ready before 3pm. read more

German Roach Infestation Alert! I arrived late at night, exhausted, and just wanted to rest. As I settled into bed, I spotted a German roach crawling across the wall right by my face. As a former pest control business owner, I knew immediately this wasn't a random bug -- this was a sign of a bigger infestation. I wanted to leave immediately but was too tired and had work the next day. I carefully kept my luggage closed and off the floor to avoid bringing any pests home. Unsurprisingly, I barely slept, feeling uneasy all night. By 5 a.m., I was up, checked out, and reported the issue. I canceled the rest of my reservation and requested a refund -- but they only offered $30 off. The lack of real concern or accountability from the staff was incredibly disappointing. The Bar and Grill is great also - good food - decent price drinks and great bartender (Sam). Their front desk is friendly and helpful. Where to begin? A once beautiful place is now a step up from being on the streets, but not by much. From drug user needles in the bushes to fake eye lashes in the heating unit to countless holes in the walls. The tv had permanent lines across it and who knows if it's been wiped down or not with sanitizer. Food service was to be set up by six am and was a solid twenty minutes after that for any coffee or breakfast bags. Feel compelled to write review because of the distinctiveness of this hotel. There are lots of pluses and minuses. On the plus side, the service is excellent. The grounds are plentiful. Good for bringing a dog. Plenty of parking. Provided breakfast has a larger number of items than most. On the minus side, the place is very dated, looks like it has not been fixed up in a long time. Rooms are basic - as one might expect if dogs had been there. You have to sign out to get a towel. You can walk to downtown in about 15 minutes - but you have to walk over a freeway interchange. Breakfast food just ok in quality. Overall, if you like more naturalistic, simple, basic places, this will be good for you. If you are looking for anything fancy, you won't find it here. read more

Pleasant Hotel right off the freeway with all the amenities! My hubby and I had a trip planned to Santa Cruz but the hotels were doubled the price .. so we decide to Stayed here because it was the best deal and only 30 mins away from Santa Cruz we are so glad we did! The place has an apartment-like look and feel and it doesn't have all the bells and whistles (needs updating on wall paper, carpet, and furnishings) but it makes up for it with the clean/nicely kept grounds, super nice staff, clean/comfy beds and amazing hot breakfast! Checking in was fast and the lady in the front was nice and cordial. We were missing a tv remote and they sent maintenance guy over in less than 5 minutes. I didn't have any nois The bed was super comfy and soft pillows. Had two days of great sleep. I do have a thing with brown carpets and I hope they replace it and update some of the furnishings in the future. Otherwise We enjoyed our stay. Hotel amenities: onsite gym, pool, bar/grill, large nicely trimmed grounds and seating area, family and pet-friendly, free parking, free WiFi, microwave and fridge in each room, best of all free hot breakfast every morning that is refilled a few times from 7-9am! Extremely dated, and filthy, rooms (not the cleaning crews fault). These grounds appear to be owned by a family that owns other locations across the Santa Cruz area. However, this Los Gatos location is always filled by construction workers. The Los Gatos area is booming on remodeling and new condos to accommodate the aging community and new influx of people coming in. Because the rooms are filled, they don't have much incentive to invest in remodeling or other improvements. We became intimate with this place as we stayed her for about a week. For the pool access they are strict on the number of people and time. You can only spend 45 minutes in the pool for 6 people. They let a family of an employee use the pool. About 8 people used it for 3 hours. We couldn't just kick them out because they had kids enjoying themselves. That's a bit wrong in my opinion. The wireless internet is at or less than 1Mbps download and 0.5 or less Mbps upload. If you are a road warrior or looking to get work done online, including file sharing, presentations, vidcon, forget it. Tether on your phone. The front staff were a bit rude and there seemed to be a silent rift between the cleaning crew and the front staff. They lied to us about the wireless and conference room/business center availability. We know because we stayed here and used the conference room 5 years ago. We told the staff this and she hung up on us. They appear to send the construction workers and their huge trucks to the back lot rooms and family and other travelers to the front rooms. The floors are blackened with soot and dirt so wear sandals at all times. White socks will turn black within minutes. While walking the outskirts of the rooms to our car, we could hear conversations from the various bathrooms. One couple arguing about first world problems - who drank the last bit of alcohol. Another relieving themselves on the toilet after what appeared to be a hearty meal. And the last chatter from kids running around in the room. You see, the bathrooms face the walkway of the parking lot and somehow everything is amplified given the acoustics of the open windows and reverberation. It was a bit absurd to the point where I started a conversation with the lady in the bathroom from outside, "Don't blow an o-ring!" I said. She seemed shocked and said, "Whaaaat? Oh my! Hahaha". "Don't forget to bring me back something! Hope it goes well!" I said back as I approached my car. It was akin to trailer park living. You get to know your neighbors real quick. The rooms were as clean as the cleaning crew could make them and in fact the cleaning crew were probably the nicest of the bunch. We ended up tipping the lady rather well. She walked to the rooms to clean and always offered anything we needed to help with our stay. Pleasant woman but purhaps overworked and/or underpaid. The cleaning crew couldn't shampoo the carpets or scrub the urine smell out of the grout at the time so we purchased X-14 to kill whatever lurked. I also had to spray some WD14 on the door hinge. My God it was like a door opening to the catacombs of the Cryptkeeper until I fixed it. The room smelled cigarette smoke and we could smell the Marijuana from another room. It made its way to our open window. As for the decor, you will find wooden carvings of bears and Indian busts around the place. The saddest of them sits predominantly in the center court area. It appears to be a Dakota/Lakota Indian from the Great Sioux Nation and is a copy of the End of the Trail statue by Fraser c. 1915. This one statue embodies the atmosphere of this place - telling a sad story stuck in time (1970's) I doubt this place will change as long as the demand for rooms are high. To those travelers, for the same price (if available) you will find the Best Western across the street which was delightful and modern with plenty of lighting, cleanliness, great service, fast internet, and for approximately the same price! read more

I think this place is a great value. The best thing about it is the outstanding service. I've stayed here several times and every single time I've ever interacted with someone, in person or on the phone, they've been nothing short of exceptional. Friendly, knowledgable, thoughtful. The hotel is old. Very old. Like 1950s old, and it shows. That's not a knock, it's just the way it is. If you have more than 1-2 devices to charge, bring a power strip. The rooms have not been updated, ever I think, but they are clean and well-maintained, all things considered. This isn't an elegant 5-star hotel. It's a 50s lodge. The grounds are clean and attractive, with ample parking. Right off highway 17, minutes away from Downtown Los Gatos, and a short drive to Santa Cruz or Silicon Valley. The grab-and-go breakfast is a highlight. It's like being given a $15 voucher at a 7-Eleven in a bag. Juice, yogurt, breakfast sandwich, PB&J, plus hot coffee, donuts and milk and cereal. Not a sit down buffet, but super convenient to grab on your way out or enjoy in your room. Pet-friendly, which I guess is good if you have a dog, but not great if you're bothered by the occasional 4am yelping. read more

The first night we slept terrible and had to turn it off. The second night they brought us a stand up fan. I would want to stay here again but not with air conditioner the way it is. read more

I wanna start by saying that the folks that work here are really nice people. Because of a power outage we decided to rent a suite here. That includes a pull up bed in the living room, there is a fireplace. The bedroom has two beds. We needed to be here because we had no heat, no power. When we arrived the room had the lights on, and the heat on. When we went to go to bed there was no way to turn off the bedroom light. The heater broke/stopped working. The whole reason we were here! The door to the bedroom did not close. Meaning the door did not fit the jam. And so therefore it cannot be closed. There is no way this happened overnight, there is no way they did not know these problems existed. It's a very old and very tired hotel./notel. It needs to be motel priced. read more

If I could give this place negative 5 stars I would. The only thing they have going for them is the location and night crew that serve us beers all night at the lobby. Other than that this place needs to be demolished! The rooms are small outdated and smell of the 1970's musk that has been painted over for decade permeates through. We got in late on Thursday night and pretty much went to bed. Since I was tired I jumped right in bed and didn't think anything of it. When I woke and got out of bed is when I noticed the sheets stained with blood and the box spring covered in either vomit or feces. I immediately went and demanded to speak with the person in charge. The on-site manager (forget his name) said they would go in and do a deep cleaning of the room and that for my "troubles" he would credit me $50. After the room had been deep cleaned I attended the wedding I was there for and I thought everything was barely decent at best given how outdated the room was. The next morning I woke up and opened the curtains to the sliding door only to find what I can describe as a half eaten chimmychanga or taquito right next to the door. Long story short unless you like bloody sheets, puke and chimmychangas in your room find somewhere else to stay. They should have refunded me the entire amount. Rooms are extremely outdated and look dirty. The back of the hotel is to a football field that seems to host events all day all weekend long. We opted out of being green and asked to continue having the housekeeper coming in to "clean" but all they did was refold the bed. And I know because a lipstick of mine was stuck in between the sheets and it was still there when we came back. But the bed was made to seem as if it had been cleaned. The countertops were not touched. And the towels were dirty. They did replace the soaps and maybe vacuum. But definitely a half ass housekeeping visit. Should have just taken the $10 snack at the front desk. Definitely not worth the $$$. Because it was not cheap by any means. read more

First time here, check in was great, everyone at the desk was super helpful and informative. The room was a bit out dated but not bad. The beds not comfortable but the pillows were very fluffy. The shower was out dated, the shower head spayed out at the base and needs to be soaked for the build up but the pressure was decent. It was ant infested and the rug was soaked, I'm assuming from the people before us let the bathroom overflow. The fridge stayed cold and the patio was ok, the screen needs help. The cafe that is in the compound area of the lodge was super cute and cozy. Food was decent a bit pricey but the convenience can't be beat. The grab and go breakfast was not bad, would have been nice to have the regular breakfast but I can't complain to much. Can't say I'll be back but I would say that if you need a place to stay for a couple days, give it a shot. read more

This review is for the hospitality of the hotel and the venue. We hosted an event at the lodge and encountered several negative issues. The hotel staff is unfriendly. The only friendly and professional member of the team is Cecilio, he was helpful, professional and proactive. The linens were not steamed for our event and we're wrinkled plus they use short linens or rectangular ones for the round tables. The kitchen was filthy and needs a deep cleaning, the maintenance person does not speak English and was rude saying "No! No!" and walking away from me.when I asked for a linen which is in the contract that hotel is supposed to provide the linens for the event. The bartender provided by the hotel was also unfriendly and annoyed by everything. Stay away from this lodge and especially from the negative energy of the team. read more

This Lodge is a staple of Los Gatos. They are huge rooms, there was plenty of drawer and hanging space, it was in good shape, with a mini fridge, microwave and a little coffee maker, iron/ironing board and blow dryer. The grounds are beautiful. I had an upstairs room that made the room more airy, with a large deck. Yes, the air conditioner was loud, but it drowned out any other noise and for some reason, nobody could quietly shut their doors, and there was a lot of slamming. The bathroom was awkward, needs a little shelf for toiletries, and the light at the dressing table needs to be brighter. I thought the bed was comfy and could hold 3 adults, it was so huge. Staff very friendly and efficient, and I wish there was real breakfast to be had. People - the bottom line is that it is the best buy for a very nice place in all of Santa Clara Valley and adjacent to the berg of Los Gatos, which is within walking distance! P.S. - I did not know about a cafe' or real breakfast, and I really wanted a nice meal without leaving the property. read more

I love the charm that this property has retained. A simpler time where you stayed at a resort for the rest and relaxation. Where your children could swim to their hearts content while mom and dad sat poolside enjoying peace, quite and lunch. Wine and beer too. There is bocci ball as well for the skilled at heart. This was booked for free by a company for their x-mas party. As I walked in, a lady said she found bed bugs in her room and to check mines. I searched high and low, found a few small ones on the box spring. The bathroom was gross, shower all scratched and stained. The wallpaper and curtains had stains on them. The best thing about this place is they allow dogs. They have set aside some rooms specifically for dog families, so if you're not a dog owner they have dog free rooms as well. The second best thing about this place is that they try very hard to make this place comfortable, even though the property is older and a bit worn. My room was clean but it was difficult to look past the bumps and bruises of many years of use. The beds had egg-crate foam toppers to make them comfortable. The towels were clean and fresh. They offered a few toiletries, coffee maker, and mini fridge. The lodge is set on an open lot, plenty of space and parking. I notice many contractors use this hotel as there is plenty of parking for their trucks and equipment. And they offer a free breakfast. If you need a basic place to stay, with or without your dog, then this is an acceptable location read more

We have been a regular patron of the lodge (had a birthday party there, stayed with them at least 8 times). This time we were visiting my son, and they said they would "upgrade" our room with a kitchenette (which we didn't use). We got back to the room at around 11pm, and turned the heat on. The unit did not work (not the old wall unit, the new unit they installed with an A/C option). It only blew cold air and it was winter, so it was about 48 at night. The hairdryer did not work either. We called in late, but no answer to get service. The next day we asked for a refund, and they said maintenance said the unit worked and would look into it. We pushed the Heat button, and no hot air came out (waited 5 mins), just cold. Called the next day when we got home to inquire about a refund, and they denied it. This review is only for a meeting room. I came here for an event that was hosted by Rodan & Fields, in a meeting room in the D building. When I turned into the facility, the parking was full over to the right so there are some additional parking to the left of the entrance. Since there is not much signage for directions, I walked toward the main building and entered to find the bar area on the right and some meeting rooms on the left. Again, no maps or signs directing people, as far as where the meeting rooms were located. I also noticed someone else looking around, so we finally found somebody to ask. We arrived early to the room and it was all set up, chairs and a back table with hospitality refreshments: coffee, hot water, cold water and drinks and cups. The room was the right size for the gathering, there was a podium and mic up front, with a projection of the presentation. Facilities was fine for what the event was for, but again, there needs to be better signage or just a printout of what is being held where. read more

I purchased a two night stay through Expedia and drove an hour to get to the lodge in preparation for a surgical procedure the next day in Los Gatos. Regrettably, upon arrival I realized that I had left my wallet at home so carried no ID on me. As a result, the front desk clerk would not allow me to check in, even though I had the digital receipt for my Expedia purchase on my phone. When asked why the receipt wouldn't suffice, the clerk responded that it was protocol. I explained that protocols are guidelines, not laws, and that I was too tired to mage the drive back home. The inexperienced and snarky clerk wouldn't budge, so not only did I lose out on my prepaid two night stay, I had to sleep in my car overnight prior to my operation. I feel badly giving this place a bad review because they were able to accommodate us when our hotel reservations elsewhere went awry but I just can't let the rundown quality of our room slip past unnoticed. Our last-minute reservation got us a $250 room with ripped wallpaper, stained ancient carpet, and furniture that would have been turned away at a donation center. That said, the housekeeping staff performed nothing short of a miracle keeping the place spotless despite the ancient condition of the bathroom fixtures. The pillows were nice and new, though! The stray cats roaming everywhere and sneaking up on us outside at night could have been charming if they hadn't scared the heck out of us as we unloaded our car. The complementary breakfast was a nice touch. My recommendation to the management: don't rent out these rooms until you have renovated them because there is no way we would come back to such a rundown place at these prices, and no one else should either. You have a potential gem here but you'll need to put in the work before it can shine. Honestly it wasn't a bad stay but it definitely needs some TLC. The pros are that it's a stones throw to everything. Santa Cruz, Monterey Bay, Downtown Los Gatos. The lodge staff were very nice & the to-go breakfast were not bad. Just needs repairs, could hear the upstairs people moving all evening long, the local football game was actually neat to hear, need to lockup outside doors & get key card entry after 7pm. We booked the Garden Room for a Saturday night evening engagement party for my daughter and her fiancé. The general manager, Cecilio, was amazing and super helpful. He was a great communicator and very supportive throughout the weeks preceding the event and the day and evening of the party. The room was ideal, the setup excellent, and the staff were helpful. We ordered the bar service and that was an ideal choice for our party too. Many of our guests booked rooms at the hotel and they were very satisfied with their stay. All in all, an excellent place to have an event. We will use them again! read more
