Over the last two years this place has changed quite considerably. Just about the only thing that stays the same is the bullet-hole in the left window as you walk in. When I first came to this resturant, the food was good. Nothing to write home about, but it was decent enough to frequent. Now everything has gone south. The quesadillas have large chunks of slimy flavorless poblano peppers in them. The refried beans have a stale taste. The cheese is, I believe, white american. The flautas have unseasoned chicken in them The guacamole is just poorly mashed avocado. They no longer serve mexican rice with their enchiladas, but this kind of flavorless white rice. In a city full of mexican food, I can honestly say this is the worst I've had. Oh, and if you have to come here, try to avoid the amature live bands that fill up this small restaurant with obnoxiously loud noise. It makes things so much worse. The dining area is open and inviting and the staff is friendly enough, but the food is just terribly disappointing. My recommendation is eat just somewhere else. read more

I eat here every saturday morning and every other chance I get! Their carne guisada is to die for, their fajita's are second to none, my personal favorite is their fajita nacho's. Basically you don't get food this authentic and good without putting love in it! I support and rave about this place because I want it to succeed so I can keep getting my taco's so def try it out if you already haven't. The staff is friendly and personal and prompt and you can still get in and out if a jiffy even when they are packed to the roof! this place does not charge the advertised prices on their menus. their excuse was, its the price that we have on the computer that we charge. wanted to speak to the manager and was told they will be back in about an hour. so i left them my phone number and three hours later, still no phone call. i will keep going through the drive thru and keep ordering the same item and refuse to pay at window until they change prices on the outside menu. 9/27/16 false advertising on drive thru menu!! they overcharge. menu is posted at 4.99 for huevos rancheros at the window they charge you 5.45 plus tax. they will argue with the customer and say that that is what their computer says to charge. twice they rectified my price, third time they refused to honor the advertised price. they keep saying they will change the menu, but it has been three weeks! read more

Used to be a regular My family would go every week. Last 3 or 4 times the service and food started to get worse And tonight was horrible. Not crowded, but took forever to get our food. Waitress served us COLD FOOD on COLD PLATES and walked away. I got up and found the manager, who offered to take our plates and reheat ? No Microwave, thanks He took our untouched plates and walked away He came back with our check....minus $10 ???? Really ?? We didn't even eat !!!!! What an insult !!! Will NEVER EVER GO BACK !! Awesome food and service! I've moved back home to SA only three months ago from being gone some twenty plus years and have on and off been dining at Los Generales. Great food always, never a bad plate and the service...out-standing! Especially this evening of 06-01-11 when the cutess little waitress with glasses serviced my mother, sister and I. We were very disappointed in the food. We ordered queso and it came out like someone had put soap and water over the top of it with chunks of shredded cheese. The chicken in the flautas and enchiladas tasted about a week old and was as dry as could be. The beans and rice were okay. We will not ever be returning. read more

I figure as much as my boyfriend and I go here, I should write a review! They know us. No big deal. Food is delicious and I love their chips and salsa. The service there can be a little slow at times but overall pretty good. When it gets really busy there, it also gets very loud. Some nights they have live music and boy do they crank it up. My ears bleed a little, but that's ok. They have an outdoor patio to escape from the madness if necessary. OH and they also have a cardboard cutout of the Dos XX most interesting man in the world. Absolutely fantastic food! My daughters love the weekends, especially, because of the live music. I'm more partial to the $5 Mexican Martini shaker. Everything on the menu has been incredible, but my favorite is the mini tacos regulares. And the bean dip. Oh, and the enchiladas & bean and cheese chalupas Oh, no! I sent one of my boys to get food and he went to the wrong place. The food was horrible here!! When I saw the receipt, I saw he went to Los generals. I called to give them feedback and the "manager" asked me if I still had the food. This call was placed almost 1.5 hrs after the order and I said no I threw it out. She asked my receipt nmbr which I gave her and she said "oh I see, no receipt." So listening skills aren't up to par either. Again gave her receipt number. I told her food was in trash and it was horrible. And she said they needed to see proof to justify credit. What were they going to do, taste the food?! It was in the trash which I was not about to dig through. Save your money and go somewhere else that has better, tastier food and who has better customer service and listening skills. By the way I order taco salad, crispy beef taco and flauta plate. And we all agreed it was bland and horrible. Sad for standard food that one would consider difficult to mess up. read more

Been going here for years generally decent food and service. However went in recently and we were seated. Waited 15 minutes no acknowledgement at all. There were people cleaning tables around us but no one offered us any service at all. We just walked out. Poor customer service. read more

Good spot to have a bite fast...or stay for 7 hours straight, as I once did. The food is always fresh, lunch specials are great, and other than the chairs being a little hard and it being a little dark, good atmosphere. Been to this place twice. Once for breakfast, the most recent trip for dinner. Both trips the food was great. I just wish they had bigger tables as four ppl worth of food can get crowded. My test points fir Mexican places are the refried beans and the salsa, when those things are in good order the rest is usually good. Both of those passes the test at this place. read more

Los Generales has been our go-to Mexican restaurant since moving here in 2011. We don't even bother looking at the menu anymore. We order the Santa Ana plate with cheese enchiladas and have never been disappointed. But the TRUE reason we eat here is the queso and chips. By far, Los Generales has always had the best queso around. Nine times out of ten, we eat so much chips and queso while drinking our Cadillac margaritas that we end up taking most of our dinner home. I've through the drive-thru and bring a few orders of chips and queso home for a lazy football Sunday many times. BUT...we went for dinner on Friday 10/9 and we knew something was different as soon as we looked at the food. No more delicious authentic queso and homemade chips! There weren't any roasted tomatoes and peppers and the cheese itself looked strange. The moment we tasted it, we recognized it wasn't cheese at all, but Velveeta!!! If there were any tomatoes and peppers (I hope not a can of Rotel), they didn't make it into our bowl. It was just a bowl of Velveeta and it had hardened within five minutes of making it to our table. Then there is the chips, another mystery. The first basket of chips and salsa that were served with our drinks were our usual favorites. But when they brought another basket out for the queso, the chips were store bought bagged chips. I can make Velveeta queso and chips at home...if I'm going out to eat, I expect the real deal. I wish I'd asked to speak to a manager before leaving because I'd like to know if this is their new recipe or if this was just an emergency fix for a busy Friday night. I'm hesitant to go back again and end up with Velveeta queso when I can go elsewhere for the good stuff. It's a shame because I've always considered Los Generales a 5-star Yelp rating before 10/9. read more

There refried beans are good there flour tortillas are good and other foods are ok. The customer service isn't great. The waiter I got could barely speak English luckily I was with my mom who speaks a little Spanish, it's really hard to enjoy your self there when you struggle to understand the waiter and he fails to understand you. Also I went a couple weeks ago to get bean and cheese tacos and found hair in my tacos I was disgusted and felt like I had to throw up. Overall I don't recommend this place but if you do go I hope you have a better experience than I did. read more

I've been here many times and love Ordering off the al a cart menu so I can get one of everything. My husband and I got hooked with their chips and salsa and started to frequent anytime we want good tex-mex. The ambience inside is kinda loud and busy so get take out if you want to have an intimate conversation. One time when we went in the evening they had a dj/singer/keyboardist that would walk off of the "stage" and come around to the Tables it was pretty entertaining but not in a good way but a "omg you have to watch this it's so awful" either way It gave us something to chat about. This is the second time my wife and I along with our three children have visited this establishment. It's been the same both times. Service was good and attentive, but not during peak hours either. The drinks I've had are strong which is how I like them, but the reason the restaurant gets two stars and will never see us again is the same reason all the other bad reviews are posted here. The queso, terrible. My wife and I have very good palates and cook mostly ourselves at home, so it's definitely a treat to have someone else cook for a change, but we both swear they're going across the street to Walmart and getting velveeta and possibly those premarinated, bagged chicken fajitas too. We added shrimp to the fajitas and they were literally not seasoned and tasted almost boiled. Times must be tough for Los Generales. They gave us enough rice and beans to barely even make a taco a piece of and It was $90 when it was all said and done today. I've been there about 5 times and the food is always good but the service is horrible. If you have no expectations of good service but want good food, you'll enjoy going there. If you try and beat the fact that the service is horrible by calling in and taking your order to go, you're in for a surprise. I called in an order and showed up 20 minutes later so I could just pick up my order without having to wait, only to find out that they hadn't started cooking my order. The manager said that they do not start preparing to go orders until the customer arrives so they are not left with the food in case the customer does not show up. Again, the service leaves much to be desired but to be fair, the food is really good. read more

What a terrible experience. If I could give no stars I would leave none. They brought out my food 45 minutes after being seated. It was very obvious that my wife and I were not a priority, the big party next to us was their priority. When we finally received our nachos and enchiladas my enchilada plate had butter rice. This former BBQ place opened up as a Mexican restaurant a few years ago. At first it seemed ok for tacos sometimes, as it's only down the street from my home. Over time the prices became inconsistent and the portions became laughable! I payed about $15 for 4 carne guisada tacos : all tacos had two small chunks of beef in them. These tacos were literally bite-size. Management didn't care at all and hardly spoke English in the first place. They're drive thru could have 2 cars in line and you will STILL wait over 15 min to get your food. The food here is not at all authentic Mexican or even Tex-Mex. The salsa is watery and gross, the rice is dry with no flavor, the beans are undercooked. I could go on but just save yourself the time and dissatisfaction and avoid this place! The bathrooms are always filthy and the prices here are ridiculously high. Bandera Jalisco on Nacogdoches rd or Tejas Cafe on Oconner rd are Waaaaaaaaay better and just down the street from this dump! Avoid this place - Save your money !! read more

Went to drive threw orderd 15 tacos they made order wrong called to let them know was wrong the owner said to a coustomer it don't work like that his words we made your order wrong but we put the wrong tacos in and now want me to drive back to get the 2 bacon and egg he put in still not worried about how his staff messed up and had to drive back to get the 5 tacos they forgot what kind of buisness tells a coustomer that already has been inconvienecd that it don't work like that sir your right you don't treat coustomer in that manner to top it off they gave us burnt bacon never again waste of 40 .00 and time read more

We frequent this restaurant quite often with a party of 5 to 7 each time. The last two times we have gone the service was horrible. Last night was the worst. We had to call the waiter over to get drink refills, all of our glasses were empty. Each time we needed something we had to call him over to get service. Another party a few tables away had a spill at their table and no one came over to clean up the spill on the floor until someone from the table asked them to. The entire staff just stood around and talked to each other, none of the tables were being service. One waiter stood next to a table and showed pictures and stuff on his cell phone to the girls sitting there for over almost an hour. Since this was the second time we have had an issue with the service, I asked to speak to the manager. Although she came over, she really didn't seem to care about what was going on and just said she would talk to the waiter. It may be time to find another Mexican restaurant and not refer people to this one anymore. Too bad because they do have good food. read more
