My husband is an easy going guy and decided to take me here. The food wasn't actually bad but the chips and salsa are horrible. Chips too thick and salsa tastes like watered down tomato sauce. The decor is not something to be inspired by. They have this weird side gig with advertisements all over the table which makes you wonder is this a Mexican restaurant or advertisement company? Taking that aside, the place is dark and dusty. They have these weird screens hanging from the ceiling that are covered in dust. You can see the alcohol storage area from your table which was weird and there's these silly advertisements for hard alcohol all over the place. What this establishment needs to do is just be a Mexican restaurant and be good at that, not all this other side stuff. And lastly, use the people you pay and clean the place up so it doesn't look like a warehouse with food. read more

I just visited this restaurant for the first time this week and I'm really glad that I did. I pass it almost daily and wondered what their food was like. With many Mexican restaurants in San Antonio to choose from, this could have been a hit or miss. The food was cooked really well and the service was fast as well. We went during lunch so I thought we may have to wait for awhile but I was pleasantly surprised by the quick delivery. I placed a to go order at around 8:10 PM, was told that it would be ready in 10 minutes. I went to pick it up through the drive-through and they told me that they were closed and that all pick up orders should be picked up in the front. And I order from this place all the time and pick up my check orders at the drive-through. So another words they told me that I couldn't have my order brought to the drive-through, window and on top of that they said they closed at 8 PM which is not true. I'm used to my mom's homemade Mexican cooking, so I can be very picky about Mexican restaurants. This one is alright. The food isn't horrible, but it's not the best either; it will do for the price. They have a happy hour where margaritas are only $1! Too bad that happy hour is during lunch time (I think 12-2). I think this was done purposely because they usually have a large crowd during lunch hour; but who is really going to order a margarita when they have to get back to work in less than an hour? Usually the servers are very friendly and fast; but if they are having a slow day, they usually take their time getting around to getting your order (you would think it'd be the other way around). The margaritas are really great though, I'll give them that! Bottom line - come here if you're in the mood for Mexican food and don't care how good it is; and if you can have a margarita during lunch. I had breakfast here with a friend on Tuesday. I felt nauseous and bloated within an hour after leaving. It continued for two days. Our first time here on a Friday night, the flavor and scenery are authentic Mexican. The chips and salsa are big in flavor, I would even call it my favorite salsa on the NE side of town. This place is right done the road, and a great place for good Tex Mex. The restaurant is small and comfy, and the customer service is decent. Most of the employees speak spanish, so some things get lost in translation, but the food makes up for the language barrier. The mini tacos are my favorite menu item, and the mexican martini will get your blood running; we were advised not to drink more than two in one sitting! This place can draw a crowd on Sundays, but most weeknights are pretty relaxed. We've never had to wait for a table. I also don't particularly like their water, so I would suggest tea or a soda instead. Overall, a great alternative to the chain Mexican food restaurants like Las Palapas or Mamacitas. read more

We have come many times but food is inconsistent. Today was the worst and bad enough that we will go to one of the many other options in the area next time. Our beans and rice were lukewarm at best. My family has eaten there on several occasions and we find the seasoning of the food to be inconsistent. We went there just last week for lunch and had Enchilada/Taco combination plates and everything was absolutely delicious. We just got back from eating there tonight - same plates - and the food was very bland - all around. The enchilada sauce, the taco meat, the rice, the beans, all bland, just seemed like salt and pepper in the taco meat with no comino, the enchilada sauce tasted right out of the can, the rice - just salt and tomato sauce.....you get the idea. When we went last week, it was after a long hiatus because the food went suddenly from well-seasoned to bland overnight practically, so we quit going...thought we'd give it another try...same thing INCONSISTENT. I hadn't been to Los Generales in a couple of years. I was surprised when I saw that food quantity portions had become smaller. The food at LG is very good. However, the mid range review I give the restaurant is based on the mediocre to horrible service we routinely get there. My husband won't even go back again because of the frustration of waiting to give your food order and/or drinks. Also, be prepared if you go when they have "entertainment". They have a live mic and singers (I use that term loosely) belt out very loudly. The background music and their singing precludes any conversation unless you are pratically screaming and or leaning in trying to listen. I dont object to the live mic, but the sound level needs to be monitored. Go for the food, not the service. read more

We went to this restaurant yesterday and there were four adults and one child. The place was packed as usual and the service was not so good. Although the food was very good, the waitress only brought us two tortillas for five people. By the time we were able to flag her down for more, most of us were finished. It's a shame because we all love a little piece of tortilla with every bite. Our bill was over $50.00 and I don't think being skimpy with the tortillas is the best move.
