My office is litterally step away from this place, definately big points from me with the convenience factor. Aside from that, the food is awesome and a great value. They have a daily special that is a great size portion and only $5.49. A full size plate of great enchiladas for less than going to a fast food burger joint? No brainer. Arrived at 9:30 am expecting a crowd, since both IHOP and Denny's, both less than 1/2 mile away, are always packed. I was the only car in the parking lot! Received my food in less than 3 minutes and it was delicious. I ordered the Migas and chose the flour tortillas for my tacos. The tortillas are store bought, but still very tasty. The Migas are LOADED with cheese and the eggs are fluffy. The 3 sauces that came with were all medium to hot spicy and the verde is especially creamy (for salsa). Great hole in the wall right by a motel. Interesting architecture but a normal Mexican restaurant inside. We were immediately served chips and three different salsas and the waitress took our drink orders. We had just missed breakfast so the up charge was about a dollar. We wanted breakfast so we decided to pay the extra amount. So we had to meet friends and got the tacos to go. It didn't take long and they packed the bag well with several salsas to go and plenty of napkins. I enjoyed their green salsa so much, it was delicious. Overall I was satisfied with the food, the timeliness, and the service. I think we might have paid too much for something I could find cheaper in San Antonio but it was a good quick find in Austin. Went there last night with my boyfriend and had the mixed sizzling fajitas added also shrimp.. and he got the caldo de camaron(shrimp soup) and for appetizer we had the chile con queso... these were the best fajitas i have ever had i was very satisfied ... and my boyfriends caldo omgsh it was amazing as well he said it was the same caldo he tried almost 9yrs ago at the same place and hadnt been back since then. And the service was great also. If you are craving mexican food this is the place to go wont be disappointed .. my bf had a corona michelada and was made to perfection not bland like other places ... i had the lime margarita it was ok but would have rathered get it in a glass cup instead of plastic .. but i loved this place will be back for sure . read more

If you rated this restaurant as strong I question where you ate. Service = horrible, 5 total tables and so slow. Told no Tecate but it is on the menu and so it appears. Server recommendation = garbage, did not know how this meal would tank - so bad on my - she recommended, I said yes and i have never had such a bad meal. So, this is my first review of a restaurant; I felt so strongly compelled to voice my opinion about this restaurant that I'm taking the time to post this. Where do I start...I've eaten at this restaurant three times, and each time I accompanied a friend. Everything I have ever ordered from here has been so sub par that I honestly believe fast food would have been a better option, and I detest fast food. I'm not sure what part of Mexico these dishes are modeled after, but I can assure you that you do not want to go there. The dish that shocked me the most was their tostadas; which are basically a toasted tortilla with beans, chicken, beef, or avocado. First off, the toasted tortilla was so stale and tasteless, it might as well been made out of cardboard. The veggies were okay for veggies cut a week ago, stored in a fridge, and then served as fresh. But the thing that I could not stomach was the chicken. It wasn't grilled chicken that should be on a tostada, it was chicken they scooped out of a chicken soup and poured on a stale tostada. The chicken was colder than my drink and was wet and tasteless; I could see the soup it had been marinating in drip off the tostada as I picked it up. After that, I ordered the safest thing I could imagine which was chips and queso. In my opinion it is difficult to ruin chips and queso but Jaliscienses found a way to do it. The cheese was barely warm, really salty, and liquidy; it did not resemble any cheese dip I've ever eaten. I could've purchased canned dip and a bag of chips for half the price and ten times the flavor and quality. I will say the staff is very nice and our waitress was very attentive. The atmosphere is your typical Mexican restaurant and the lighting is fine. I felt bad sending food back since our waitress was so nice that I just took a large to go box and figured I could give the food to someone or a stray dog. Overall, the only thing I didn't like about the restaurant was the food; which is why you go here in the first place. read more

We were on our way out of Austin for the holidays and my boyfriend (hot Mexican) wanted some authentic food before heading back to OK. We stopped here based on the reviews. Upon ordering it was clear to me (white girl) the waitress wasn't a fan of my brand. She was super nice and chatty with my boyfriend and would then look to me with slight disgust. Let me say, it's whatever. It's shitty but we both found the humor in it. I was the only white person in there and if she were aiming to make me even more uncomfortable, she might of succeeded if I had softer skin. Probably didn't help when I ordered the nachos :D I chose them based on another reviewers picture. I also tried to play some music on the jukebox (nothing short of authentic here) My bf ordered the #3 I believe it was (some sausage/chicken/shrimp fajita type thing). His meal was fantastic. We were both disappointed with mine. The ground beef tasted as though it was made for another meal and they had leftovers so they threw it on some chips and called it the Nacho Supreme. Not good. We also ordered the chips/salsa for an app. It was good. Not great but good. Authentic, yes. Consistently good throughout , I think not. read more

I can't get enough of this place. A few weeks ago my roommates and I were craving some Tex Mex and I remembered the weird-shaped restaurant down the road (once featured in Friday Night Lights, even!) We stopped in and were one of three tables in there. The waitress didn't speak English, but one of my roomies was able to translate for us when needed. The three sauces served with the chips were stellar. No, really, like crack in their addictive properties. The service was friendly and very fast, and all three of us loved our meals. The refried beans were a bit salty but I still scarfed them down. The corn and flour tortillas were homemade and scrumptious. I took the rest of my mixed fajitas home and was able to get two more meals out of it. Since then, I've been back three more times. While I tend to go eat during off-peak restaurant hours, the service and food are consistently top-notch. Nothing fancy, just fast, tasty, and quite cheap. I feel damn near blessed to have such a gem so close to my house. read more

I don't understand these other reviews. This was some of the worst Mexican food I've had in Austin. I ordered enchiladas. They were super greasy and not very tasty. The meat had no flavor except the taste of grease. The chips were oily, salsas mediocre. The only plus to this place is the service and price. Waitresses were attentive and friendly. Food is pretty cheap. Perhaps I should have got the tacos, but in my opinion a good restaurant should prepare ALL of their dishes with high quality. These other reviews surprise me. We were staying at the hotel right next to this place and they kept sending us to the office to order from their place. They claimed they didn't do take out even know the damn menu on the counter said take out. Salsas and chips are amazing, the food is mediocre but not bad (typical Mexican fare) and sometimes they have bands and karaoke there which can be either entertaining or highly annoying. Service is usually pretty fast and their aqua frescas are tasty. Parking here is kind of a terrible thing. Sometimes the wait staff mops around you which can make it slippery when you get up to leave. read more

We have gone here for lunch several times. I pour their green sauce liberally on everything. I don't know what they put in it, but it is like crack. I finally had their breakfast tacos last week, and they are amazing. They take some time though. Since they make them to order rather than scooping eggs and meat out of a bin, be prepared to wait. In hopes of a great dining experience, but thanks to an intrusive waitress named Claudia (maybe she was the on-duty manager) who later tossed a to-go box on our table for take-out of the fajitas on the Chuy's plate. While I enjoyed the fajitas and mole sauce, my friend shared a taste of the chicken tortilla soup that was way too salty. I only tasted the bland, salty broth, however, the chicken looked highly processed. Avoid the guacamole as it was bland; tasted like it was made of avocadoes past their prime. I visited Los Jaliscienses a few Fridays back. I ordered the Steak Milanesa because it was the special of the day (I didn't know what I was ordering, but I've heard the specials of the day are usually the best dishes in any restaurant). It was absolutely delicious! It was like a very thinly cut chicken fried steak, and super tender. I could have cut it with a fork. It tasted like home cooking -- only better. The portion was huge and the price of the special was great. Really, really good! I've daydreamed of the meal several times since (that's why I came here to write about it). I highly recommend that dish if you like tender, breaded steak. Honestly, it was cooked to perfection. That's one heck of a cook in that place. The place looks sort of funky on the outside. I was having doubts when a friend took me there and we drove into the parking lot. The parking area was a narrow strip next to the busy feeder road. But that dish was WAY worth it. I have been a huge fan of Los Jaliscienses since 2009. I have been to multiple locations, and have always found the food wonderful and the service good. That is, until today. I went to the East Cesar Chavez location, giddily ordered some nachos, paid, and took them back to my office. I was thrilled that there was a location close to my new job. I was anticipating all the same yummy cheesy goodness that I had eaten at the Ben White and Airport locations, and that is not what happened. In fact, I don't even know how to describe what is sitting in my to-go box. Is cheese supposed to be grainy? I am very disappointed and still hungry. I am unwilling to give all the locations bad reviews because I have always gotten delicious food from them, but this particular location has sorely disappointed me, and I will not be going back. I will, however, go back to the Airport and Ben White locations. Just not during my lunch hour. read more

I used to love this place and was a regular for at least 2 years, every morning we came to get breakfast tacos, or breakfast plates for myself, my husband, and my son. Something has changed!!!! I'm not sure if it's the management or the staff, but either way I will never eat here again. They decided to change their prices at some point this last July, only instead of posting their new prices, they hung a very small sign above each menu stating the prices shown are no longer in effect. If you ask for a current menu of prices they state they do not have one, so there is no way to get in writing what their actual prices are. Now let me explain why that angers me so. The last 3-5 times we attempted to visit the cashier has charged us a different amount each time although we order the exact same order every time we go, sometimes it's 7.00, sometimes it's 8.00 but lately it has crept up to 10.00 or even 12.00. This is for the exact same order of 4 breakfast tacos with 4 toppings in each. When I ask how much the tacos cost individually I am given a receipt that sometimes shows a base price ranging from 1.50 per taco to 2.10 per taco with no explanation as to why this changes and then additional topping charges ranging from .30 to .70 per taco and then some additional charges of .49 again no explanation of the individual charges. I realize this is chump change to most, however if they are charging these additional fees to every customer that comes in they are making a killing on these extra fees. The fact that the total is different every single time I go for the exact same order angers me to no end. In addition some days we went the tacos were full and what you would expect for a 2-4.00 breakfast taco, but other days there is barely anything in the tortilla even with 4 toppings similar to what you would expect for a .99 cent taco only the price continues to get higher with every visit. The last time I visited this place was what topped the cake, after waiting in line with one person ahead of me for 28 minutes without even having my order taken, we waited an additional 14 minutes for our food to be prepared for a total of 42 minutes in a drive thru for 4 breakfast tacos, then to top it all off the person who took our order told us it was 7.10 I gave her a 10.00 bill and she left the window. 14 minutes later a different person returned to the window handed me my food and slammed it shut without offering me any change. I waited to see if she would return for an additional 10 minutes and nothing so in essence they stole 2.90 from me on top of horrible service and wait times. Then when we got home the tacos were barely filled and most of the toppings were actually outside the tortilla melted and smeared all over the wax paper they were held in. If there is one thing I cannot stand in a restaurant it's dishonesty. To put things in perspective, instead of stealing a few dollars from me here or there on the very few times we visit anymore, your actions have cost you according to your posted menu prices 4 tacos x 1.25 plus .60 x 4 tacos for extra toppings for a total of 7.40 x 365 days a year which is how many times we visited before this started for a total of 2,701.00 per year just from our family alone and solely from our breakfast visits. It's no wonder you have to steal from your customers now with a yearly loss of nearly 3 grand and that's just from one customer, I wonder how many others have noticed the same activity and said there are many more fish in the sea sir.......we have found a new taco shop, closer to home with their prices proudly posted, good and fast service, and the same total with every visit and to be perfectly honest the tacos are better. read more

Food quality and atmosphere are not the issue at this location. We got tostadas and salsa (small servings of 3 varieties, none particularly memorable, the one intended to look like an avocado sauce is a mixture of blended English peas, jalapeno and maybe sour cream). I got a torta (4.99) asked for fries on the side, pictures with but apparently separate (2.89!). My wife wasn't very hungry and chose to share a beef quesadilla with our daughter (8.99 for a large quesadilla with salad and no rice and beans, not a great price). We all had ice water. When I checked out without a formal check delivered to the table, the price of the fries was divulged along with a mystery $1 charge for who knows what, water glasses to wash or extra plate for sharing a plate. Quien sabe. I don't return to places with mystery charges. If you question such practices and do return, who knows what will be done to you food or drink the next time. read more
