I think this is still my got to late night Mexican spot. They have great salsas and amazing potato tacos with decent burritos, but as of the last time I was there they started using cheddar cheese in items. While the service is always fast and it feels like basically a Mexican foods greasy spoons equivalent I think they have shifted a bit in my book after recent visits but still have a place in my heart. Other reviewers seem to love the taste of Los Junior's food. I don't. I found it quite bland, bordering on flavorless. The quality was excellent, the portions were huge, the menu vast, but of the half-dozen dishes I've tried here, I wouldn't re-order any of them. Maybe it's that I am not a fan of Baja style cooking. I like the food in Oaxaca and Michoacán and Guerrero and Jalisco, but not so much Baja. But here in North County, Baja is our neighbor and Los Junior's does a credible job of serving it up. That said, I am very impressed by the efficiency and smoothness of Los Junior's drive-thru operation. It takes a lot of skill and organization to manage a drive-thru with a menu that big. They do it well. A long-time ago I was in a Michelin 3-star restaurant in Paris and got to see the obviously-wealthy patrons at the next table slather ketchup on their food. I had this restaurant bookmarked on Yelp for a while now and am so glad I was finally in the area to try it out. What makes Los Juniors special is that it is a super cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating (located in more of a residential neighborhood versus commercial center) but it's ALSO a drive thru which is awesome to get sit down quality food in a drive thru experience (which if you have kids like I do, you know that is clutch!) We actually ate inside and tried a variety of items. Our favorites were the fish tacos (they truly are just as good as all the other 5 star Yelp reviews recommend) and chile rellenos. We got a few other tacos and it's important to note that the tacos are really big! Not the mini tacos here but really good size tacos so if you normally eat 3 tacos, I'd suggest getting 2 here since they are good sized. Their carnitas is also really good with crispy edges that I love. We ordered some pickup the other day from Los Juniors. The pickup service was quick and friendly. The food was still warm when we got it home and was tasty. I had a carne asada burrito which was a little smaller than other burritos from other places but the meat was flavorful and I was satisfied. My wife had fajitas which had carne asada, chicken, and shrimp along with the vegetables, beans, and rice. She enjoyed the food as well and I got a chance to taste it and was also happy with the taste and size of the portion. For the food, I ordered myself a Californian burrito and it was very delicious I love how the meat was juicy and had flavor. When I wish there was more vegetable in it, but I'm not complaining. With the salsa they and you can serve yourself which type of spicy levels you want it made the burrito taste more better. I have been working in San Marcos for a month and come here 2-3 times a week. Today I ordered two California burritos, one with only cheese and they marked which one had only cheese. When I bit into it it had a bunch of sour cream which makes me really sick. I called to see if they could remake it and they were very apologetic and said "no worries that's fine we'll remake it I'm very sorry for that." When I got there the lady at the counter was extremely rude and argumentative trying to tell me I was in the wrong when I literally took a picture of it to show them and kept trying to charge me for it and she slammed the register shut when I bought my soda from them. Then proceeded to drop the new burrito in my hand and made a snarky comment as she was walking away. As a business owner myself if one of the people working for me had the audacity to speak to and treat a customer that way they would be sent looking for new employment that same day. We've driven by this place on South Santa Fe Avenue for years, but never stopped to try it. It's just a small little Resturant in an old building, not a particularly pretty building. My daughter had recommended this place so I thought I better try it. I was short on time and hungry. There is some indoor seating, but they also have a gated off patio seating on the side of the building. You drive around the patio seating area and the Resturant to place the order and procede around to the window to pay and pickup your food. I decided to just order from the drive up menu. They have a chili relleno and enchilada plate on the menu. I requested to substituted the enchilada with a beef taco, which they were willing to do. All plates come with red rice and beans. The young man at the window was very courteous. He took my money and handed my bag of food to me. The order was correct and had a generous supply of salsa and napkins and a plastic fork. Overall the food was good. The beans didn't taste like refried beans, but like a better quality canned refried beans. Not exactly like Rosarita refried beans, but an upgrade from that. Definitely had a canned bean look and taste. I must admit I ate them, but was very disappointed in them. The chili relleno was amazing!! The crust was crunchy and had an amazing taste. One of the best chili relleno I have had in a very long time. That alone will have me coming back! The beef taco was very good, too! No complaints on the rice.
