If you are looking for good authentic Mexican food, you will be sorely disappointed here. The only good thing about this place was our hostess who was very kind, positive, and was helpful. I wish I could say the same for her coworker who insisted on angrily sweeping around us while we were eating. The guac was the only good thing we ate. It damn well should've been since it cost $6.95!! The rice was dry. Beans and meat flavorless. Corn tortillas were stale. Chips tasted of burnt frier oil and unsalted. Super disappointed. Could hardly hear my companion talking because the music was so loud. We walked in not even a hello, we were sited looked at their menu it took less than three minutes to see what we wanted. 15 minutes or longer we get a waitress not kidding you. We order another 20 minutes later we got our food. The food was mediocre bland. I wanted a straw nobody ever checked on us if we needed anything my daughter wanted more chips but crickets . 1/2 an hour later they brought the check I swiped my credit card and she said do you want to give a tip I said nope! A decent very colorful Mexican restaurant in downtown McMinnville. We were so wore out from our day of wine tasting we just wanted a simple dinner so we could go back and sleep. If you are looking for good Mexican food & Micheladas, Los Molcajetes is the place to be! For starters, The Service is beyond Amazing! The owner & workers are so down to earth & so attentive. The restaurant has such a nice aesthetic, it reminded me of the times I visited Mexico. There is not a place like this in this town. We went for breakfast & we started off with guacamole appetizer, which was very good & generous amount. While we waited for our breakfast, I ordered a Michelada, hands down one of the best I've had! I ordered huevos rancheros & husband had huevo con chorizo, both plates were very delicious & were so satisfied & full! One of the highlights of this restaurant is how the bar area is uniquely separated from the rest of the seating area. I also seen that one side can be used to accommodate large parties, which is convenient for someone who wants to have their special occasion at Los Molcajetes. I am from California visiting Oregon. Very disappointed. Order the sirloin steak and it was bland in flavor. The rice and beans were days old. Yes I can tell. And the sauces came from a can. That's just my opinion. Meat not seasoned, my partner was terribly sick, pale and light headed with diarrhea that evening. The server was pretty with a awful attitude and personality. I have been there three other times and each time i've observed an attitude issue with the servers.I have no clue why they are angry in general. I will retain my receipt for some time to prove I've experienced los molcates in Mcminnville. There are other great Mexican restaurants out there. Odd service vibe here for an early dinner on a hot July late afternoon. I waited 2-3 minutes to be seen and greeted. The woman who sat me led me to a comfortable table and had water and chips with salsa waiting for me when I returned from washing my hands. And then she forgot about me. I had studying to do, so the 20 minutes was put to good use. She did come back, I ordered and she quickly returned with a massive "medium" margarita with a massive kick to it. I'm definitely not complaining and I'm also glad I walked here. The margarita was very good, so I paced my reading with my sips, and waited for another 20 minutes for my salad. Turns out, studying is definitely enhanced on an empty stomach and a margarita from here. It's tragically late in my advanced studies to discover this strategy in 2022. When the salad arrived, it was delicious. I added salsa for some heat, but the chicken was perfect. So, food and drinks--at least 4 stars. Service--2 stars is generous. She did return and asked while also receding before I answered if everything was okay. It was okay, but it's hard to not miss the compliance question that doesn't wait for the answer. But, it was cool and peaceful here on a 97 degree summer day. I'll return and check my service expectations. The food and atmosphere are worth it. It might be interesting to return on a busy dinner service night to see if the sleepy service wakes up. For my summer state of mind, it was a great match. read more

We used to love going to this restaurant. The quality of food and service has just gone down hill. My husband's rice was undercooked. My friend verified there was no shell or tortilla with her salad (health reasons) there was a corn tortilla under her salad. My salad, which I used to always get, had no taste to it, very blah. And the service, we waited close to 30 minutes for someone to finally bring us to go boxes after asking 3 different people for boxes, and another 20 for our checks. Our first visit to McMinnville, and everywhere else we received friendly and professional service, not here though. We picked the place because the ambiance inside was beautiful and we hadn't had mexican in a while. It was lunchtime on Thursday and we thought about sitting outside, but my back injury made me second guess sitting on metal chairs, so my husband courtesouly asked about sitting inside. He went to the restroom as I entered the restaurant and was directed to a booth where the kitchen door backed up to the backrest, constant in and out and noise, not where we wanted to sit for my husband's birthday meal. We asked nicely to sit at the window instead, close to where the other 4 occupied tables were located so no extra trips for waitress. There was 1 lady server, who did everything, but given there were only 10 guests, no problem. We must have really rubbed her wrong because this is by far the worst service with unpleasant attitude I have ever experienced in any restaurant. She threw down the menus, and stormed off, came back to reluctantly take our order (we should have walked right then and there), threw down chips and salsas without a word, and ice water, and returned 1x to serve (throw down) the food, and then once again when we asked to pay. After we paid she asked if she could refill our empty waters, with a sour look on her face. The other 3 tables she visited regularly checking on customers and being semi friendly and refilling waters but didn't even attempt to make eye contact with us the entire time we were there, unbelievable, we just kept shaking our heads at her behaviour. Had it not been for her atrocious attitude, we may have enjoyed the meal, the food wasn't bad at all. If I could have given a Minus -25% tip I would have, people like this should not be allowed to serve customers in a restaurant, better off hiding in a kitchen or washing dishes...Again thanks for ruining my husband's birthday meal and needless to say we won't be back on our next visit to beautiful McMinnville. read more

So annoyed. We checked before leaving Sherwood which is about 30 mins away and online says they close at 9 PM on Saturday. Walked in at 7:10 and the host said, " Sorry we are closed." I told him we had just driven 25 miles (and the restaurant had at least 10 tables seated) and be said, "Yeah we are closed." That's it. No apology or offer to do something to go. We were on our way home from the beach and decided to go through the town of McMinnville. This is a quaint little Main Street town with lots of shops. This restaurant had outdoor seating, with social distancing, and sanitizing everything. We sat outdoors and ate. Service and food were both excellent! I had the Mexican pizza which was HUGE!!! Hubby had the combination plate which was also huge and just look at the size of this beer!! Lol, Will definitely be stopping here again! read more

My wife and I have always enjoyed eating here and have always had a great experience. However, this last time could have been better. We had been raving to our friends that they needed to come out and try this place because it was so good. We all ordered and nibbled on the chips and salsa that were placed before us. There were about 6 of us and they had only brought us one small basket of chips. When she returned we kindly asked for some more chips and the waitress, which I believe was the owner, immediately said "Of course!" We had a very good meal and when we went to pay the bill, we noticed an extra charge for extra chips and salsa. We called her over and asked her why was there a charge on our bill for this. She proceeded to tell us that the extra basket of chips/salsa was extra and had a charge. We told her that we've "always" had chips refilled at any of the mexican restaraunts for free. She looked at us and said "I can get a menu and you can look at the bottom page, in small writing if you want?" I laughed. First of all, you tell your customers there will be an extra charge when they ask for more, then, NOT after the fact. We would not have asked for more had we known. She gave no apologies or allowances and just stared at us. Now, ANY good owner/manager would have apologized and let it go with a respectable and subtle reminder that in the future any extra chips would be charged. She didn't seem to care about it. We came here every other week for 4 years when we lived close by. A few years ago we moved 3 hours away. We've tried numerous restaurants in our area and closer to our area BUT NONE OF THEM COMPARE TO LOS MOLCAJETES! Their chips and salsa! Their enchiladas! Their tacos! Their margaritas! HANDS DOWN THE BEST WE EVER HAD and that includes when we lived in Las Vegas Nevada. Today, after over 3 years, I got to come back to Los Molcajetes and STILL HANDS DOWN THE BEAT FOOD AND DRINKS YOU WILL EVER EAT! AMAZING! Wish we lived closer! I keep coming back to this place because the prices are unbeatable. I really want to give this place 5 stars because I've always enjoyed the food. But I usually end up getting takeout because I don't particularly enjoy dining in...the restaurant itself is very nice! I absolutely love the low lighting and colorful decor. However, in the summertime it feels as if there is no A/C. It was so hot one time that I ended up just getting to-go boxes and finished my food when I got home. And in the winter, it feels as if there is no heat, and you end up eating with your coat on. And the service could be better....it's not necessarily "bad," but there's just not a lot of warmth or friendliness. I definitely understand times are hard and many places are understaffed right now. However, this was a reoccurring issue even pre-Covid. But I will continue coming here, or at least getting takeout. I love to support a local restaurant whenever possible, and like I said at the start of my review, the prices are unbeatable! read more

The service is always quick and attentive. Our server tonight was wonderful. Giving us suggestions and anticipating needs. This is not good mexican food. When you have lived in SF Bay Area for a good majority of life then you know what good Mexican food is. Los Angeles is the true place to have the best! I dont know really understand how this place stays in business. I ordered the crab and shrimp enchiladas. Bland Bland Bland. There is more big chunks of onion and mushrooms than actual protein. The crab was fishy and texture was from a CAN, the shrimp were all cut up into very small pieces, caked on bland sauce that was not very good. The rice, no flavor...the refried beans, no flavor. Actually had to use table salt, and still not helpful. The salsa they serve with chips is watery and flavorless. Other part of my table ordered the shrimp cocktail, guess what? Flavorless, watery, absolutely disappointed. The whole table of 5 did not agree as well. After eating and leaving, I found myself running to the bathroom several times, and I have an iron stomach, my body was seriously rejecting what I ate...my other table mates experienced the same situation. The atmosphere was rather dusty all over the decor, hanging items, the walls looked grimey, the fabric flowers dust...Dust dust dust every where, very unsatisfactory. I feel years ago this place might have been good, it has the potential...it smells good when you walk in... I'd much rather go to Jose's Taqueria, the food is fresh, flavorful, the staff is super friendly and the price cant be beat. I think the Chipotle here in town is even better than Los Molcajetes, and I cant stand the garbage Chipotle(they dont know what they are doing at the store)...Los Molcaljetes if you want to be good then change your menu and style of cooking, never eve had enchiladas with chunks of onion and mushrooms in it, really throws off the taste, just fill up with fresh meat, especially crab and shrimp enchiladas, just put the crab(fresh crab) and whole shrimp. top it if off with little sauce, sour cream, guacamole(which was actually the best item here), and salsa...I would not continue the fillers of chunky onions and mushrooms with the protein. Change the chefs and Clean up the place and then maybe I will give it another try but until then...Good Luck! read more
