Another shelter in place edition review! I was craving a burrito, but had no idea where to order from. I though I would breakout of my comfort zoned Mexican restaurants and try something new. I found Los Pericos on a food delivery app and browsed their menu. There were some pretty good offerings, but I settled with a super burrito with birria meat. I placed my order through the delivery app and waited patiently. My burrito was delivered with a problem and packaged nicely. The birria meat was tender, combined with the rice, refried beans, guacamole, sour cream and salsa, turned out to be a very flavorful combination. We ordered from Los Pericos on Door Dash and got menudo, a pastor taco, and the steak fries. Not sure why the order took over 71 minutes. The tripe in the menudo was cooked well. It was soft and not chewy at all. Unfortunately, the soup itself was pretty bland. The herbs and spices that go with it (the green flakes) were very overwhelming. It almost tasted like raw parsley. The pastor taco was filled with lots of meat and cheese. The pastor however was on the dry side. It was lacking salsa -- they didn't give us any salsa rojo or verde. The steak fries were extra soggy. Since the box was fully sealed with no air hole, everything had condensate making the fries not enjoyable at all. Pretty disappointed at that... the carne asada was extra salty and the sour cream conglomerated on the top of the fries. We'll consider another place for Mexican take-out or delivery. :( read more

Order: today my co-workers and I decided to order from Los Pericos for all of our employees working at a Covid clinic. We took everyone's order and confirmed it before our supervisor completed the order. Price: not sure since our supervisor completed the transaction. We ordered: 21 super burritos- 2 chicken, 5 steak, 2 carnitas, 8 Al pastor, 4 veggie. Pros: we received all 21 burritos & everyone enjoyed them. Cons: Although we received all 21 burritos, not all of the burritos were labeled- which either meant that we didn't receive the right amount of each, or they weren't labeled. We will never know. We also received a BUNCH of plastic silverware and napkins... like a bag full, but received no sauces/salsa. (I can not stress enough how much I try to avoid using plastic unless really necessary.) Although the order wasn't super complicated, we understand that 21 burritos is a lot. Since the food was yummy, I would return here on my own, but we probably won't be ordering our employee lunches from here again. Their burritos are very good but they don't always follow directions... like pinto beans vs black beans (daddy no like blk beans) but lately (last two orders) they were correct. That's a + Love their churros but sometimes it's not even on the menu, understandably, they're our. Cool Sometimes order horchata and get something else... sometimes drinks missing all together. See where I'm going? lol Oh, yesterday's (4/13/2021) pico was COMPLETELY OFF... but they still served it. Shame shame!! Sour and foul . I ordered online, and when I got there to pick up my food, there were a lot of people eating outside or in line waiting to order. So I had my hopes up high. I ordered a shrimp ceviche and a pizza box of tacos, which came with 15 tacos and 3-5 choices of meat (I got birria, carnitas, lengua, carne asada). This is some of the worst tasting Mexican food I've ever had I ordered the Chile reñeno and it was awful and hard the sauce on it was chunky if you've ever had an authentic chile you know that that's not it the rice was horrible and tasted reheated beans had no flavor tasted like can beans my girlfriend ordered the chilaquiles and the salsa had a sour taste to it the whole dish was horrible and so blandly made it was basically soggy tortillas sour sauce and scramble egg on top . Los pericos has been an east bay taqueria for many years. They have a location in downtown San Leandro as well as a market. This Hayward location is newer with more updated furniture and less busy than San Leandro. Food quality is roughly the same as the other location and for the money they're not bad. Definitely have had cheaper food that was just as good or Mexican food that cost the same and was better but I will say the consistency at Los Pericos has always been there. Post pandemic , they got rid of pinto beans & are using a different kind of bean , this may not mean a lot for most , but pinto beans in a burrito , as a side dish ., etc . Are the best . My best friend and I Doordashed lunch from Los Pericos. I know what you're thinking... ordering food from Doordash won't be as good as dining-in. Sure, but in my opinion Doordash is no different than going to a place myself and ordering take-out. There are baseline expectations like the food having cooled down a bit while traveling back home, sogginess from the condensation build-up, etc. Well the food I received from Los Pericos didn't make these bare minimums, because it arrived straight up cold. We even received our order 15-20 minutes from placing it (no difference than the time it would've taken me to pick up the food myself), so I don't blame Doordash. Los Pericos is at fault for this one. I got two a la carte items, the flautas and chile relleno. The flautas came in a quantity of 3 and made with chicken only. Flautas are supposed to be crunchy from being deep fried. They tasted were frozen flautas zapped in the microwave. The least that Los Pericos could've done was flash fry to warm them up and give the tortilla shells some semblance crispness. The chill relleno didn't taste freshly made either. The cheese inside the pepper wasn't melted at all, and the red sauce on the chile relleno was super bland and barely warm. read more

I don't remember the name of the dish that I had but it was nopales something, it was delightfully spicy direct from the kitchen. That said, the house salsas were also incredible. They give you alot of food so that was one menu item that we thought was worth thr price. Taco salad was filling but mostly just lettuce and tomato. I've been here a few times now and I can honestly say that I really enjoy the food here. I love the tortas with the pastor full of meat and the bread is soft and delicious. I've also had the super burrito pastor that is now my favorite item right now. I love that give flour tortillas to make their chips.
