**July 2026: Thursday Afternoon Visit** We visited Los Sombreros on Thursday for lunch and were happy to catch a great deal. We ordered the Crispy Potato Taco Plate ($10), regular guacamole ($5), ceviche ($14), elote ($12), and chips and salsa, which were complimentary. The potato taco and guacamole were both on the daily deals list so it was a no brainer to add them to our meal. The restaurant had great AC (which was much appreciated), and the service was top-notch! Our waiter was incredibly personable and friendly, and the whole place felt like an intimate mom and pop shop in the best way. Of everything we ordered, the crispy potato taco was my favorite, but honestly everything was tasty. The shrimp ceviche was refreshing, and my friend basically devoured the elote. We definitely ordered more food than we needed, but it was all so good that we didn't mind. read more

I was taken here for my birthday, super cute we love the brick house look! As we walked in we noticed how cute it was. But we didn't know what to do because as you walk in it's where like maybe 8-9 tables were, there was no hostess so we just walked slowly to the back found the restaurant and finally someone popped out from the kitchen and sat me well my friend was in the restroom. The waitress was speedy with the salsa and chips which were great! She was very informative on the menu. But she gave us a very long time to look over the menu after telling us about it. As we sat longer we noticed how hot it was in there, the restroom was freezing so I know the air was working but they need to figure out ventilation and air flow! Especially when it's 116 outside the restaurant should feel as cool or close to as cool as the restroom!! The food was ok the presentation was nice but the flavor was not great but also not bad. I loved the concept the vibe and look, if the weather was cooler I'm sure sitting in the patio would have been great! but I think this is a one time place for us. read more

We came here for Father's Day, based off of reviews. I agree the atmosphere is nice. They have a back patio with misters and loud music. For the party crowd this works. The main dining area is more understated. Brick walls adorned with knick knacks. Bistro style table arrangements. Music less intrusive. We were sat right away. Greeter just a few kinutes later with waters and silverware. Chios and salsa. Which is quite good. Fresh and not overly spicy. Though we love spicy. Not everyone does. They have some great margaritas choides. We tried the Steves margaritas. Very good. Offered in a pint glass rather than a bucket or stemmed margaritas glass. As fundido lovers, we ordered the house fundido. Comes with two corn tortillas. We agreed that it aeemed a bit salty. Cheese naturally has salt. Perhaos their cooking process or brand is the cause. Waiter mentioned they don't add any salt. We didn't eat it after the first bite each. Left it on the bill even after we said we didn't really care for it. No biggie. Just seems like they would want us to come back and try something else in the future. Kinda of strike one. And No, we don't go around wanting free food after eating it all. Next we ordered the three tacos. Steak. Mexican food generally uses cute of beef meant to offer full flavor. Not prime steak obviously. Which is what makes it tasty. Not the case here. The cut was super grisly and lacked any real flavor. Tortillas were fresh and tasty. After the second course left us feeling dry we decided this restaurant didn't offer the level of flavor and satisfaction one foes to Mexican restaurants for. Evem the sode of refried beans and rice were tastless. And poorly presented. I am sure this restaurant is fine for some. For us, not so much. read more

I've been coming here since 2019. I've had a family birthday party here and also a senior ladies good luncheon. I supported through covid and bought trays for family to help the business. I've met one of the owners in 2019 very nice. We have had many happy hours with friends. They started maybe 6 weeks ago all you can eat tacos on Monday. Two of my friends and I came to support. I came tonight and ordered 3 crispy chicken tacos. About 5 mins later a waiter I've never seen before tonight came and told me I would have to pay a upcharge for crispy tacos. I told him I didn't last time. I said fine I'll go. He said wait let me see what I can do. The manager who knows me by name said we have changed it to only soft tacos. I told her the website or menu did not reflect that. She said sorry she would tell them to put it in writing. So I got up went to Diego Pops. They have $3 tacos and it's crispy or soft depending on the taco. Plus they have a better happy hour all apps half price. It's sad a local small restaurant can't take care of the regulars. I only wanted what I got before. If I was told this is a one time thing that would be fine but they did not even do that. There are too many restaurants these days to go to that appreciate their customers. I have posted about how great they are many times. Summer time they have a terrible fly problem inside the restaurant but I still supported. Not sure I'll come back. I felt they try and get you in there for a good price then uncharge you. read more

I've drove past this spot so many times & it's always busy so I knew I had to check them out. I came during the week for their happy hour which had some great deals. I sat outside & enjoyed the beautiful patio weather. It definitely was busy so try to come early & parking is somewhat limited too so be mentally prepared. I tried their tacos and guacamole. Both were excellent! I loved that the meat was juicy, no dryness at all & flavorful. Our sever was super friendly but a little bit slow but it's also a busy happy hour spot so I get it. We really enjoy this spot! The patio is cozy and has a lively, fun atmosphere that makes it a great place to hang out. All of the meats are wood-smoked, which adds great flavor, and the salsa is delicious. They also offer a great happy hour and a solid Taco Tuesday deal. The house margarita is one of the best in the Valley--fresh, tart, and not overly sweet. It's probably my favorite margarita around. Prices run a little on the higher side, and the guacamole portion is fairly small. The steak wasn't our favorite, but the pork and the margaritas are absolutely phenomenal. There are two sides you can add to it from a choice of rice, beans, or veggies; I got the rice and veggies. The food itself was fairly good but it was definitely way too expensive for what it was. Kurt, What a mess today was. I tried the Pollo con Espinacas you recommended. It took 50 minutes to arrive after being ordered and the chicken was over cooked and dry. Service was slow. It was busy with not enough staff. Music was good. A toddler peed on the floor and the staff had to be told to mop up the hugh puddle 20 minutes after it happened. They thought it was water and continues to walk through it. Either way, it was a slipping hazard. The visit took just over 2 hours for lunch. read more

This is one of my favorite Mexican places. I've been here a lot and every time has been outstanding. The back patio is where you sit under a massive tree. The patio roof has been built around the tree. So that's the setting but the main character is the menu. I've only ordered margaritas and shots of El Tesoro. They've got a margarita named after me ( or shares the same name, whatever). The food is incredible no matter what you choose. Starters including guacamole, elote, or the queso who set the stage for a nice selection of tacos, burritos, or enchiladas. The Wood Fired section of the menu is the most interesting as these selections are family recipes. Moles and stuffed chicken breast; this is where you need order from. The vibe is very relaxed and the prices are reasonable compared to what you will pay just a couple miles north. The service has been great every time. Accommodating for whatever we've asked for. When in AZ, eat Mexican. There are many restaurants. I chose this one because of the mole sauce. But ended up with the lamb adobo. I really like lamb. The meat falls off the bone and is tender. I knew the meat would be good by the way the restaurant smelled as I entered;. Full of that open fire pit smoky goodness. The sauce was spiced perfectly. I started the night with their tropical sombrero; a mixture of tequila, pineapple juice and coconut, along with their Guacamole. Fresh and flavorful. Tortilla chips were not too greasy. We were visiting friends in Scottsdale and they recommended Los Sombreros for dinner--we're so glad they did! Service was friendly and attentive, and the margarita was both authentic and delicious. For dinner, we shared the mini tacos and empanadas, which were flavorful and well-prepared. We ended the night by splitting the churros for dessert, the perfect sweet finish. We have driven/walked by this location many times and thought it looked interesting. After seeing the segment on AZ 3 TV, we decided to try it. Everything was outstanding: food, service, and atmosphere. we got the Chicken Emmoladas and Carne A LA Tampiquena. Both were outstanding and the skirt steak was the best I remember ever having. Perfectly grilled and very tender. The mole were upstanding as well as the chips and salsa. Lunch was reasonable priced based on the outstanding quality and freshness. Service was also 5 star. Ordered Guac and Elote bc of amazing price. My wife was going to get one taco and I was getting a meal. Ordered- Was told tacos come in threes. What? HH says $4 each. Sign is wrong. New sign came to table but we had already ordered. New HH menu put on table now everything is at least $2 more. And the tacos were $15 (bc of three) instead of one for $4. Bill comes and it's $70ish for us both - during happy hour. We just would not have ordered apps if we would have known. You would think they would at least cover their screw up. The waitress knew but we didn't want to talk to owner. So he didn't get a chance to make up for it. So there's that. read more

Service and food was great, from the moment we walked in, a friendly staff greeted us and sat us. He was attentive and nice. The queso fundido was fire, the cheese was prepared well and the cheese was of quality. Chips and salsa. Fire. Had to contain myself from getting another round so i would not get full. The tampiqueña hit all the good spots; the meat was tender, full of flavor, and was seasoned well. The enchilada (shoutout to the cheese again) was bomb. The rice and beans did their job which is compliment the plate without overpowering and not being dry and stale. The tortilla game could be improved on the corn and flour side; i am sure the tortillas were not microwaved but the texture was like when you microwave them. Portions were enough to keep you full all day and the dollar per quality/quantity hits. Would recommend and will visit again when i am in the area. read more

Stopped in on a Tuesday night with a group of 6 and was seated right away. We started with the queso fundido and guacamole, both were delicious and well seasoned. I had the Oaxacan Old Fashioned with tequila and mezcal and loved it. It was hickory smoked and served with smoke wafting from the glass. It was so good. For my meal I had the rib eye tacos with the refried beans and rice as a side. They were delicious and a good portion to go along with the appetizers. This is more of a Mexican fusion place for me. Chilli Relleno - came with some sort of light salsa broth which turned out to be very refreshing and good. Highly recommended. Chicken Mole - good but chilli Relleno stole the show. Shrimp cerviche - very different, looks and tastes like shrimp tacos. Not my thing. Shrimp tacos- taste like cerviche but with grilled shrimps. Side orders were good. Service was ok. Desserts: Flan ok Churros - fresh fried, crispy on the outside, pillowy soft inside. Amazing. read more

Great atmosphere on the patio! Had a delicious cucumber jalapeño margarita with tajin on the rim, a mango jalapeño margarita, green corn tamales, and steak tacos. The rice and refried beans were also well made and flavorful. At the suggestion of our server we tried the habanero salsa. It has a kick but it was delicious. This is a restaurant that cooks over wood fire, so lots of subtle smokey flavors in the food. As an Arizona native , I KNOW good Mexican food when I taste it...my chicken mole enchiladas were layered and the flavors correctly nuanced- very impressive. The refried beans and rice , an overlooked hack in many establishments, were excellent. The starter chips were thin, warm and lightly salted and came with the tastiest salsa I have enjoyed in ages...not a watery tomato in sight ! The house Maragarita is made with a higher grade tequila and a house -made mixer that will tempt you into the realm of seconds and thirds . I love a good flan and their's was perfection , light and creamy, topped with the perfect signature caramel sauce . Let's start, my wife wanted the mission and I found this place instead and convinced her to go. The outside was neat. We were greeted when we walked in, but I wasn't sure if we walked into the front door or what. The young fellow asked us if we wanted inside or out and we said out. And he never asked us to follow him. He just took off and left us standing there. We sat down and proceeded to wait 10 min for anyone to ask us what we would like or even a water, went to the bathroom and came back still no server. Then a lady comes up with water and apologized and says your server will be here. Who happens to be the guy who sat us. He takes our drink order. Which I got a Paloma and he asked me 5 times what kind of wine I want in it. I looked at him re read the menu and said what do you mean. When the drinks come he gave us the he wrong drinks. So the wife and I swapped. Hers was good mine was awful. Let's get to the appetizer, we got a guacamole, which was good but we felt bamboozled because the bottom of the molcajete was filled with lettuce and a scoop of guacamole. We probably sat for 20 minutes before asking what we wanted for dinner. The wife liked her chicken enchiladas. I asked for steak enchiladas which would have been a substitute and if not I'll have the carne asade. Which he never came back and told me until my plate came out. So my sarcastic self said ooo what did I get for dinner. The steak was just okay, sadly but I had high hopes. We never got asked how our meal was. He never checked on us. Tables came and left as we sat there. My wife asked for the check, here comes a funny part which he dropped off quickly and my wife laughed said you'll never guess. He is just sitting at the bar. Overall I had a bad visit. I didn't enjoy my meal or drinks. $100 was a lot of money for some small portions. We are from Chicago and probably will not be revisiting. Kurt I see you read these.
