I hate writing bad reviews but the two wet burritos costed $30 and they were nasty. Verde sauce was straight out of a can. We were not told ahead of time that shrimp costed $5 extra so when we asked why it came out to so much, the young lady working cashier took it personally. She had an attitude for everything. Every other food place will give you a heads up when something costs extra, so I'm not sure why she had such an issue answering simple questions. The menu clearly says $11.99 for your choice of meat, doesn't say anything about an upcharge, so it was a valid question to ask. The food was way overpriced for how bad it was and how small the portion is. My beef burrito came with only refried beans and soggy shredded beef. I've never had a burrito this way. I wanted carne asada. They give you a sad little salad on the side with thousand island dressing which got all mixed into the burrito and was really horrible. It didn't go with the food. I expected at least beans and rice for their prices. They also put some shredded beef into the shrimp burrito which was not cool. I could have asked what came in the burritos but the girl made it clear she was not enjoying answering any questions about the food so I trusted that it would come out okay. The food is amazing I give the food 5 stars but the staff is a joke. I just went to eat there and all the staff and I mean all of them did not attend us once food was served, I waited 15 minutes to get salsa that I had to go get while all the girls/ladies that work there were gossiping, flirting with the cooks hanging out with customers literally sitting with them. All the staff did was joke around laughing with each other. So unprofessional I won't be returning because of the staff. I give the staff 0 stars. First time here. I've lived in the HA for years and have never been to this popular place. Came on a Sunday night at 11 pm. It's nice inside and we sat ourselves in a cozy booth. There is a jukebox and there always seems to be a crowd. There was plenty of parking. The service was super friendly, but a bit slow to check in you. We shared the chicken and steak fajitas. They were so good and packed with protein. This is a good plate if you're on a low carb high fat keto diet easy to skip the carbs since it is not served with rice. Glad I finally tried them out. FAMOUS PLACE SINCE LATE 1960's. 24 HOUR PLACE OF MEXICAN GOODNESS. This is not an Urban Legend - it is fact. It started as a hut across the street from its current location in the late 1960's and was one of the few places on PCH which would stay open until after the bars closed. The clientele had to stand to eat and there was virtually no parking around the little 200 square foot cement building. I recall many times when unable to stand up after a night of heavy drinking, we would hit the place for the cure of a big greasy burrito or a plateful of tacos. It was also a great place for when you got the "munchies" from an organic high. Things went well for years and the place moved across PCH where they are now. The restaurant has the waitresses in plunging peasant dress that are perfectly short and revealing. Most of the help have seriously exaggerated hour glass shapes. They are some of the most pleasant servers you will find - always polite and smiling. This is the Mexican equivalent of Hooters with lots of bouncy chi-chis and gyrating nalgas. No politically correct crap here, boys. The place is huge and does a big business of hosting banquets and take-out orders. The parking lot is big and there is parking on the street. The dining room and counter are immaculate. The bathrooms are well maintained. I wish all eating establishments around LA were living up to these cleanliness standards. THE FOOD: Caldos (soups) Sopa de Tortilla - authentic and a large bowl for little $$ - a real crowd pleaser Caldo de Siete Mares (7 seas chowder) - if it is found in the sea, it's in here. Great taste, huge bowl. Caldo de Jaiba (crab leg soup) for those who like to play with their food, this is delicious - one of my favorites. Menudo (tripe soup) - the King of Mexican soups. Please check out the picture posted and you will see that this is the real thing. Hangover cure when you put all the "fixin's" in that accompany the big bowl. If you have a hungover friend who cannot move out of the house, you can take a quart of this to him for $7.50 and it is cheaper than a visit to the Urgent Care Hospital for a remedy. Coctel de Camaron - Shrimp cocktail served in a giant frozen beer goblet with 20+ large scampi in a beautiful cocktail sauce. This is a meal. Make no quick movements after downing one of these. Served with a icy cold michelada or bloody Mary and you are done for the day. Tostada Guadalajara is a delicious salad that you might not finish, served in the largest flour tortilla shell in captivity. This could be a shared plate. Chile Verde is tender and flavorful - can be in a burrito or all by itself on a plate - yummy. Machaca is done the right way. Chewy and tasty with the right amount of crispy. Barbacoa (res) is superb. See the photo. This is narly stuff that has been cooking for a long time and is silky smokey goodness racing over your palate on the the way to your tummy. The beans are really done right. So many LA mexican restaurants eff-up beans it is embarassing. Refried or from the olla (pot) they got it right at the three little pigs. NOW FOR THE GRINGO SCORING ;-) Freshly made chips and salsa are fabulous. Yes, they have wet burritos that are giant. Yes, they have the typical combination plates. I have no idea how this place stays in business. The quality of the food was not fresh at all and didnt taste as good as I expected. I was really disappointed in the cocktails as well. I had what had to be the most putrid tasting and looking mojito of all time. It literally looked like dirty dish water with wilted lettuce floating around in it. The Cadillac Margarita was just a bad. They need to hire a real bartender. I watched as our server made our drinks and by the quality, she ain't skilled at it. A liquor license is a waste on this place. One redeeming quality is that the wait staff was friendly and the server took the moijito off our bill once I mentioned that it wasn't good. Another good post-LAX-arrival eats. I had to have some Mexican after being in Hawaii for a week. Friend TM took me here since it's open 24/7. The place is big with booths all around and tables in the middle. The wait staff there wear these cute little uniforms that would look cuter on servers maybe 20 years younger, but they were way nice, so who cares. There's a jukebox full of music that I would've been able to understand had I cared to retain any of my four years of high school Spanish. We sat down and I got the taco and tamal plate for like $8.95 or something. And TM got the enchilada and sopa. Both came with rice and beans and it was really good. We got a small side of guacamole and holy moly, it was good. They bring out chips and salsa for you and ask you if you want refills. Chips are hot, too. Good stuff and a good filling station at 1:30 am that won't break the bank. Way better option than In N Out, Del Taco, or Jack in the Box. It's nice because you can sit down and enjoy a good meal with good service. For you alcoholics out there, they have drinks for cheap. The beans inside the burrito we're so very good and creamy and the chili verde was very good and tasty. It was a good size burrito with plenty of meat in it too. They are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which makes them that much more awesome. This is a great spot when you want late night dinner or even breakfast and Denny's simply won't do. They have the basis down: the chips are served warm and are always light and crispy, the house salsa is flavorful and you can always count on their servers to be extremely warm and friendly. If you are a regular the servers will most definitely remember your "usual." Did I mention they have a full bar? The drink selection is wide and cover everything from corona and margaritas to their speciality mixed drinks which are a meal in themselves. They have a wide selection of seafood dishes, traditional items (menudo, campenchana, chiliquiles) and have even added some great midnight snacks, such as the chili verde fries- a can't miss! Great place I wish I had tried sooner. They have great and well priced food and drinks. Mango Margarita with chili powder rim is my favorite drink so far. The chi chi, regular and strawberry margaritas are good also, but the Cadillac is a little too stronger for my taste. As for food, the fajitas are my favorite and very good (although sometimes the veggies aren't as grilled as I like them), the shrimp wet burrito with green chili is delicious and has a good spice to it, the burrito cochinito is good bur too big for me and I am not a fan of the sour cream being inside the burrtio, and the shrimp rancheros were good but I would like more spice to them.
